Ive noticed these things have insanely inflated prices any time a cell radio in is in the spec listing. I have no intentions of buying one for that purpose.. that is a bit stupid. Wifi would be just fine.. specially considering my dinc can supply it's 3g service without any extra monthly fees
Though it's awesome they rooted it already.

it'll be rooted and sim unlocked in no time because it uses all the same from Galaxy S

Its not just that. Anywhere that is currently listing a sale price is utterly guessing. They genuinely have no information to work with. And then expansys are adding 200 on top of total guesswork.
Also, rootedness = awesomeness Can't wait to get this thing running. We might even get Cyanogen for it. That'd give it some real chops. Full bluetooth support + sixaxis controller/wiimote + SNES Emulator + 7inch screen/HDMI + 7 hours of battery = ultimate in traveling awesome. All of the gaming stuff gets better hooked up to one of these. ScummVM, emulators, tower defense, even suduko and mahjong is cooler.
My real dream tho... BT mouse and someone to port C&C . Thats one hell of a train ride *drools*

Someone elsewhere in these forums posted a link to someone who had managed to get quadrant scores, and it would indeed seem to be plagued by the same kind of problems as the stock SGS, primarily because they haven't changed a whole lot. Luckilly since it is so similar to SGS, it strikes me that the current lag fixes might not even need to be changed for the SGS, aside from initially needing a manual update.zip route until someone makes a specific one-click app, since I imagine the Tab will have different usb drivers.
Still, anything you can do to make the SGS rock harder, you can near certainly do to the Tab. Just have to wait for the units to show up and the chefs to get to work.

Wait so am i mistaken that they are removing just voice dialing.. meaning like.. "call mike jones" and it auto calls.. or are they removing the actual PHONE capibility in the tab? If they do that Im not gettign it, i was all hyped that I could have a tablet that was sweet and have a phone, no need for both I tell you that.

[Q]Worry about slow Development?

So I am sure I am not the only person who has (or had) a Vibrant. I am sure the development that is being done on the SGS2 is quality, but there isn't much in the way of quantity (which doesn't always mean much). Am I justified at all in worrying about all this? Does everyone feel satisfied with the amount of development going on for what is still a relatively new phone?
I was considering the Galaxy Nexus, just for the faster updates and solidarity (as opposed to having a different CPU than other similar phones), however the SGS2 hardware is tempting.
I am trying to tell myself that with ICS I can hang onto my Vibrant a bit longer to wait for more options and such, but I want a new phone so bad, and right now the only obvious phone I can pick up easily is the GS2. I am just hesitant after the fiasco with the Vibrant. It's also been so long that it seems like I could wait it out just a tiny bit longer and get the next gen stuff.
(I know the argument about how you can always wait longer, but it has been months since the GS2 landed in the US and it will probably be a month before I am ready to buy a new phone with the holiday season upon us)

Unless you are willing to buy a Euro version of the Nexus outright, you'll be waiting atleast several months for it to be released by tmo. Not to mention if it comes spec'd the same as the vzw version, you won't have expandable memory. Cyanogen is actively devving for this phone and once we get ICS, I think it will be very competitive with the GN.

No it can't be changed. You can mess with the density to make it look HD but I don't notice anything "low" about our resolution as it is. I love this phone.

all the HD games tittle you see advertized are for our current resolution 480x800
480x800 has been considered HD for the longest time, for the past 3 years. it is a standard that all game developer codes for
if you read over the Galaxy Nexus forum the 720 resolution is causing havok on a lot of apps and games...
so go figure
on a side note, here some food for thoughts
DVD quality = 480x800
Blueray 1.0 quality = 720x1280
Blueray 2.0 quality = 1280x1080

Galaxy nexus will be released in 3 days. I'm also tempted in using buyers remorse for the nexus. The sgs2 hardware is better IMHO. We'll be getting ics. Early 2012 we just gotta wait for a driver leak.

specially when i'm not even in the mood to get that bug ridden phone, perhaps when they add microSD and a Quad core SOC to it, i'll probably go for it

To me it came down to cost. I had been waiting to upgrade my vibrant to the nexus prime forever. But word is that the nexus prime will cost $299 with full discount which means not only will I have to pay more per month to switch to verizon (currently paying $50 a month for unlimited with no contract), I would also have to pay more out of pocket for the initial device purchase (Ended up getting my GS2 for $380 new in box still no contract from craigslist)
That finally pushed me to go ahead and get a GS2.
I am still very concerned about ICS support. I also felt like the vibrant got screwed on gingerbread (GPS, bluetooth, and camera still suck on GB roms) so I am extremely worried about how ICS will end up. But I am fairly confident that ICS will eventually be released for the device officially (it will be later than they claim)

Something people overlook is that the Galaxy S2 is THE best selling Android phone of all time. That means that it's going to be the de facto for Android development for some time to come. Developers will want to make apps that run well specifically on this phone. Remember, just because faster, more powerful phones are on the horizon doesn't mean that the GS2 will be obsolete any time soon.
I have no doubt that it will also be an overall better phone than the Nexus once it gets ICS. Yes the 720p display on the Nexus is nice, but unnecessary. It's a 4.65 inch screen, for Pete's sake. If you doubt the GS2 screen, just go to your local t-mobile shop and pick one up. Your doubts will be put to rest.

I think you mean "THE Galaxy S2", on Tmobile we find ourselves with a significantly different phone yet again. At least this time there is only one on Tmobile. However with different processors on our phones it won't be as simple to translate development over (however being that its a Qualcomm it seems likely that it will be pretty simple all the same, but I have no idea).
My point was it doesn't matter what carrier you are on or what country you are in if I get a GSM GN (possibly excluding VZW).
I know that people here are going to probably defend the SGS2 because that's what they have, but no one has really answered my question and instead commented on my thoughts.
There doesn't seem to be a LOT of development (I have the assumption based on the opinions that what is there is high quality though).
Furthermore, I am not on contract, so I get no discounts on phones, making the GN only about 100 bucks more than the SGS2.
Pointing out the GN flaws is a good call, I haven't been keeping up with that and mostly watching this forum as, like I mentioned, the appeal that I can walk on down to the store and get one makes it a possible buy.
The SD card is something I would prefer, but I don't need. I was prepared to go down to 16gb but hoping for a 32gb.
The major appeal is how many people are still happy with their Nexus S. The Nexus phones just have a longer life span because they come out about once a year and Google supports them.
Some other phones get a similar treatment, but it seems to be a higher risk. Samsung has already mentioned they are working on the SGS3, meaning SGS3 updates will come even slower (I presume though that there is probably still AT LEAST most of a year before we start to see them). I just like the idea of carrying around a little Google baby.
And I am not saying anything bad about the SGS2, I am just skeptical after the whole Vibrant thing (or the SGS in general since as far as I heard GB isn't on most devices, and those that got it got it way late). The hardware looks amazing, and honestly I like the idea of the captive buttons vs only virtual buttons (I like my menu button tyvm). If CM9 is out and I haven't upgraded I will probably go for the SGS2 and put CM9 on it right away, but otherwise I will be worried about the software. Seems like it took a little hollering to get CM support (I could be misunderstanding that thread), so what happens with CM10+? I suppose there will be developers who will porting stuff over, probably.
So that's that. I figure most of this post is futile any way as it seems people get a little defensive about their choices and get upset when you make counter points. I suppose that is somewhat helpful though as it does still compare things, just one sided.
I will end up probably reading one thing online somewhere that will randomly cause me to make up my mind and then just be blissfully ignorant of what I am missing. So oh wells. Thanks for the input so far guys.

I realize the hardware is different among the different carrier GS2's. What I was referring to is the overall specifications (dual core processor ~ 1.2-1.5 ghz, 1gig of ram, etc.) when I mentioned the developer support.
In regards to your concern about the screen, I can only tell you that I did a lot of shopping around, testing out different phones and the GS2 screen does not disappoint. IMO, it is overall better than the ones found in the Razr and Rezound, which both offer higher resolutions, so keep in mind that resolution isn't everything.
At this point just wait a couple days until the Nexus is out and give it a hands on. Until you have the device in your hand, you can't really tell how it's going to taste to you. I was infatuated with the Motorola Razr until I actually held one in my hand and hated just about everything about it. The super-thin profile felt terrible in my hands, the noticeable pixels on the screen were distracting, it got way too hot to hold up to my ear, other than the speakers and software (I actually like Moto-blur), it was a complete failure to me. So you never know until you try it.

Thanks, but someone else mentioned the screen, not me. I am not worried about the screen, it would have the same resolution as my current phone so I wouldn't know the difference.
Any way, you may have understood this but it was ambiguous: Yes I know the hardware specs are nice (I believe I stated that they were potentially better) but more people would have the exact same GN as opposed to people with the exact same SGS2. It might not matter though, I have no developing experience (I considered it, but I barely passed my Java course 6 years ago) so I might be wrong in thinking that it will be hard to work with stuff for the international one and put it on the tmobile version. I mean it might be simple if it's just drivers since qualcomm drivers would not be hard to find.
Furthermore, I am already being spoiled with ICS and just want it now.
The thing is, the reason I ask here instead of in the GN forum is that I really want to want the SGS2 (well, and people here have looked as the GN where as people there might have never looked at -specifically- the tmobile sgs2). I am actually likely to walk into a tmobile store and walk out with a phone over the winter break, and I don't think I would be able to help myself if there was a stable ICS rom by then.
BUT the fact that Nexuses last so long makes me wonder if I will be whimpering about how I could have got one and didn't, then again the next nexus will be starting to solidify by then.

Regarding the CM10 bit...
The good news is that once a Device is officially in a previous generation of CM, for example all devices on CM6 are automatically included in CM7 and when CM9 is out, all the CM7 devices will get CM9
so in a way, it's a better guaranteed than stock ICS from Google which only goes as far back as 1 year of support, even the Nexus ONE got removed from Google's support list, in the end the Dev had to make their own PORT / build of ICS for Nexus One, as the regular ICS is not hardware compatible according to Google.
so if our device gets supported officially in CM7 and CM9, it will automatically be included in CM10

Then how come my G1 is only unofficially supported in cm7? They can stop supporting something, they might not, but they can. And if they just stop using a device, they aren't going to be able to continue working on it. For instance I heard rumor that the Vibrant will no longer be officially supported, and it only got 7/7.1...
What they say is as long as they support it they will continue to do what they can, but they do drop support on phones as they have to over time.

It would seem like everybody is either dodging or are too wrapped around the Euro-GS2 to answer your question...i myself have been wondering if there is going to be more custom roms, kernels & etc...i've heard that team whiskey & CM should be cooking roms real soon for the t-mobile galaxy s2. I do believe all this waiting is related to the qualcomm chip in the phone versus the exynos processor in all the other gs2 variants...I just hope this isn't gonna be like theyre doing just bc they don't wanna leave the t-mobile one out of development...but if you do test out the galaxy nexus and like it then go with it, one thing is true about those nexus phones, they are always the first to get those updates...it really comes down to what you want to do, wait a little bit for more roms or etc.

You have reservations strong enough that I would say dont get the SGSII, you wont be fully happy. Based on what you said, you should buy the unlocked galaxy nexus they are selling now ($800), or wait for the verizon version. You may regret not getting the SGSII, but I would hardly think that the Nexus would be significantly worse. If anything you would just regret paying more for a similar phone.

agree re: getting SGN instead of SGS2
specially when the OP did mention the lack of SD card is not a biggie
for me the lack of SD card was a major deal breaker, so the T989 was my only choice of good phone for AWS 1700+2100 networks

I'm not the kind of guy that buys every new flagship, I actually still have a Motorola Defy, which I'm willing to retire.
At the same time, I was thinking on getting a tablet, but never seen much use on such device without the phone functionalities, and kind of discovered this Galaxy Note II. Very nice.
I liked a lot the Spen and the bigger screen, which would probably end my eager for a tablet. The battery also seems very good, which is important to me. Micro SD slot is a must. Also, the quad core and 2 GB of RAM seem very future-proof as I want a phone to keep with me for at least a couple of years (as did the Defy).
But now, as I think it is the best place to ask, is the Note II a good customization device? How are ROM developers going?
The Defy actually was kind of a surprise, there is a consistent amount of ROM options for it. I imagine that, as Samsung is so popular, that it would be for this device as well. On the other hand, there is so much stuff, like the pen and the (not so) new hardware... i wonder if it get on the way...

Youve pretty much answered all your questions. I can only emphasize on the fact that it definitely is a future proof device as there have been several articles that it will receive the Key Lime Pie update and as you said due to its popularity it has an ever growing number of supporters and developers, and the number of developments is growing by the day. Considering the Note 3 will take several months to arrive and several MORE months on top of that before you see any exciting developments. I would say now would be a somewhat good time to get it, considering you prefer the Spen and bigger screen, as you wont have to wait before you start flashing and customizing these abundant roms and mods available now.
Just a word of advice, before purchasing the Note 2 make sure it has the latest eMMC chip type which is 0xf7 since the older revisions have vulnerability to SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome)

I`m afraid I won't be able to check it prior actually having the phone. This issue is something that Samsung has made a recall or something? If so, I believe I can check and if it has the defective chip I could ask for another.

Well, thats nice that this phone is well served on customizations and so on. When I asked, I imagined answers like "that other phone has so much more customization options", but, as you said, I believe we`re fine.

The development is pretty good around here. And the chip issue is just with the older batch, but still check if you have fx01 chip especially, which has this brickbug issue. Use eMMc brickbug check app to confirm.

should I bother with a case and screen protection ASAP?
I have the Defy (Gorilla Glass 1) for a couple of years, never used any of that, and everything is ok, the screen doesnt have a scratch. But I see a fuss for such protections, it seems everyone have.
Is there a problem in carrying it around in my pocket without any of these protections? In a short and in a long term?

Metal, S Pen etc. shouldn't scratch it at all, but if, by any chance, a grain of sand gets in there somewhere, you'll have a pretty annoying scratch there. Why take your chances with something like that? I have those 1$ ones on and except the fact that it's an oil magnet, I barely notice it to be honest. Some others invest a lot on screen protectors, and they get what they pay for So yeah, upto you.

[Q] About to upgrade Note 8; seeking advice / opinions from owners please :)

Hey everyone, I'm right on the verge of upgrading my current Galaxy Note 8 (SGH P5110 - wifi variant) to this device (the T-mobile lte variant), so I've been frantically searching this forum to make sure it was a reasonable upgrade and what the deal with the Tmo variant was, so I just wanted to clarify a few things I've learned so far, and just ask for opinions from xda members who own this device.
This "opportunity" came about rather unexpectedly, but in addition to the hardware upgrade, purchasing this tablet would have several additional significant benefits, to the point where cost is barely an issue (it will end up costing me next to nothing, if I don't actually make a little money on the deal). It's for this reason that if I were to go for an upgrade right now, it would have to be this device and it would have to be from T-mobile. The whole situation is kind of complex and super ridiculous, and even my hardest attempt to explain it briefly was getting out of hand... I'll edit this post and add it on tomorrow probably and those who don't care can easily skip it (probably a recommendation that also applies to "satisfied" AT&T customers, but then again, it's one of those "Yeah, I know. They actually pull that sort of thing regularly," so perhaps a PSA )
Anyway, to be honest, this tablet wouldn't really be on the "consideration" list if I was just looking for a new tablet... I'd at least wait to find out about the Nexus 9 if that were the case. However, upgrading my phone at some point is a much higher priority vs. tablet, despite the fact that it is pretty near to the "time" for one... I've been happy with the Note 8, and fortunately there were some very talented developers who worked on it, but not unlike your tablet, it was never really promoted by T-Mobile and never had a huge user-base. So this is pretty much my opportunity for a tablet upgrade, where I not to do it, I really can't say when I'd be able to retire the Note 8 (similar to internals of S3 despite being released around the time of the S4), however, the Note 10 does seem like it would be an extremely solid upgrade from the Note 8 so I just want to ask a few questions just to make sure I wouldn't really regret it on any level.
Ok, so the tablet sold by T-Mobile has the model number P607t, but it's really just a carrier branded P605 and compatible with the same ROMS as that device? If that's not the case / just to make sure: you can relatively easily gain full root (i.e. custom ROM, kernel, recovery)? Last, are there problems / issues / differences (aside from chipset) that make it inferior to the P605 or P600?
That's really all I just want to be sure of before pulling the trigger. Basic stuff, I know, but this was totally unexpected and don't have the luxury of time to do as much research as I'd like prior to deciding, so if anyone would be kind enough to address my impressions above, I'd be beyond grateful :good: Also any thoughts on the device sold by Tmo, or the upgrade from the P5110 to what looks to be a very nice device (despite how quickly Samsung stole the "super premium" label off of it) would be most welcome as well.
Hopefully I'm not mistaken regarding the info I've gleaned, and will soon have a new toy in hand. If that works out, I'll undoubtedly be spending much more time on this corner of XDA. Thanks much in advance

Any 10 inch tablet is better than a 8 inch screen...Go with the 2014 Note.....best tab out for the money...

Wait, the T-Mobile version works with towelroot without tripping KNOX?

I'm watching this thread because I am 95% in the same situation.

You will love the tablet thats a gaurantee however don't expect Android L or whatever the next updates is going to be anytime soon.
But yeah no tablet like it at the minute ... I use my tablet every single day for atleast 3hours a day. I actually gave away my laptop to my brother as the tablet is faster and more convenient in every way (bar typing lol). Anyhoo hope yous make the right choice...but like I said be prepared tonwait for updates haha.

Not a bad situation to be in Thanks for the confirmation / encouragement. I'd definitely agree that 10.5 inchers are preferable, particularly for a Note 3 owner, unless the 8" in question is easily root/ROMable and 10.1, despite being a very significant upgrade across the board (will go from looking at an 8" 1600X1200(!) screen to this absolute beauty) it's ridiculously locked down, bootloader etc, and basically you need to run it straight stock, unable to even remove worthless pre-installed malware.... Were that the case, despite the fact that financially, etc. it really doesn't make sense to not do it, I'd still rather stick with my customized Note 8. The unbreakable rule is: if I'm prevented from viewing every file on a device that I own (i.e. root directory obviously), well, that would never happen because no matter how tempting otherwise, I wouldn't under any circumstances get that device. I think that framing the issue of locked bootloader, etc. and forcing users to jump through hoops to attain that level of access is a good way to clarify just how flat-out silly the issue is at its core when explaining to, ya know, people (i.e. those weirdos that don't even have one Linux partiton ) why that's an issue that they 'should care' about.
So... bit of a tirade on a tangent there but that's at the front of my mind when purchasing hardware, so glad to hear that there won't be any unpleasant surprises when picking up a new device. So really appreciate the encouragement to go ahead with it as well as confirmation of my expectation that it'll be a fantastic upgrade!
Very excited to get my new tablet... maybe today! Going to start downloading files to flash in prep I've been scouring the internet for an ideal case (something slim but protective with an open from, ideally a tempered glass screen cover built in) but have noticed that options are relatively slim... Was considering just going with an Otterbox Defender, but I really don't want to add that width much with to the beautifully slim bezel. No bout I'll find something I like though. Looking forward to learning about and discussing my new hardware with you all!

Right on! I can deal with the update situation, as long as at least a couple solid, actively developed custom ROMS to improve the (shudder) stock experience. I stick with TW base on Note's typically, so my next stop is the devdb to give it a more thorough review. That is definitely a good point re: official updates (i.e. lack thereof) but the device I'm coming from is a Note 8... my "official update" expectations really couldn't be lower :victory:

Ah yeah you have Note 8 lol so really you have been set to the perfect standard to buy the Note 10.1 in terms of updates haha.

I couldn't find much info whether there is no KNOX tripping root for the P607. That's the only thing holding me back.
I had the Wi-Fi version and I really, really like it. Unfortunately, I had returned it because there was no root that won't trip Knox and I need root to disable the bloatware that is killing the battery and slowing down the tablet. There are a few thread I posted where I show screenshot of the battery life when the tablet is idle.
But you may not care about root, so go forth and get this tablet![emoji12]

What features are you going to miss, love or are concerned with when buying the Fold?

Without ever seeing the Fold in person and actually handling it I going to miss a few features based on the Specs I've read and videos I've watched. Here's my list.
Features I might miss:
1. Larger front facing screen...my caveat here is if the screen was larger it would probably be way too skinny anyway and would look really weird because of the dimensions..
2. Iris Scanner - love this feature on my N9. I know it's already gone on the S10's but it just works so well.
3. Update :MST for Samsung Pay is Probable for all phones. From what I've read, we're only getting NFC at least on AT&T but their website could be wrong since Samsung says it will have MST & AND NFC. That is always the beauty of Samsung Pay over various other Pay technologies. Worked just about everywhere for me.
4. MicroSD slot. OK, I might not use up the 512GB but do love the MicroSSD option which is great to easily move files and backups around., etc.
5. Waterproofing. I'm guessing that the Hinge is the problem and it would be difficult to waterproof the phone because of it.
6. The Fold would have been perfect if it had an S-Pen...with a selfie camera in the S-Pen (LOL!).
Features I'm not happy with (but I'll still live with):
1. That damn notch with a bezel on the big/inside screen. Almost made me bypass the pre-order. If that screen wasn't so large, I definitely would not have bought the phone. I swore I'd never buy a phone with a notch...Oh well.
2. (I know that this should probably be number one) The Crease! It remains to be seen but every video displays the crease in some manner. I find it funny that any article that I've read where Samsung has replied states that the crease is only seen in these **pre-production** models and the crease will not be seen on the final Fold versions. I'm not holding my breath on this one! So many reviewers stated that looking at the screen straight on and/or with a different wallpaper that the crease is barely visible or not visible at all. Now looking at the screen off to the side, the crease can be seen.
3. The batteries. They should have installed greater mAh capacity batteries. C'mon Samsung! You're using 2 separate batteries, give us more juice. You know we'll be on the 7.3" screen constantly!
4. I'm not really mad that they removed the headphone jack. I love options but 99% of the time I'm using BT headphones anyway.
5. The cameras. OK, we have LOTS of them! But for almost $2000.00 these cameras should have been even better than the S10/S10+'s cams. This Fold phone is Super Special and should have had a little bit more (can you say 10 X optical zoom? Might not have fit though).
6. I am still not fond of the Bixby functionality in comparison to Google Assistant. The Bixby routines are probably the best part of Bixby. I'll probably bypass Bixby.
7. Bixby button also being the fingerprint scanner. I'll lose my mind if I continually activate the Bixby button instead of unlocking my phone. That would make me crazy so I would use other software to disable Bixby altogether.
8. Many early articles on the Fold stated that Samsung would give us a free year of Samsung Premium Care+. I'm hoping that when I receive the Fold, I'll be surprised and find documentation to sign up for our free year. I'm probably dreaming...
9. They should have offered more for Trade-ins. Only up to $300.00 where it was $550.00 for the S10 possible trade-in values. (I'm kind of glad though since I may just need to keep my Note 9 around for awhile).
Unknowns:
1. It remains to be seen if the developers will build apps to work with continuity and sizing, etc. If that isn't done then we might own a $2000.00 boring paperweight. I need my Kustom suite of Apps and if they don't work, the Fold will be almost useless to me).
2. Will the Fold just be too long to easily fit in my pocket. I never put any phones in a back pocket but occasionally put in front pocket. Most of the time it's in a zippered pocket in a jacket or purse or backpack or small waist pack. I'm really not too worried..yet! Hahaha!
3. We definitely need a variety of cases. I'm sure they'll come. The interest in the Fold has seemingly surpassed Samsung's expectations. Samsung kept the final Fold design under wraps so long that I think that's one of the reasons the case makers haven't delivered yet (or they thought that the Fold wouldn't have much interest). I need a super protective Clear Case. I want to show off that Martian green with Gold Hinge!! (and I want to look at it too).
Final observations:
With all of the unknowns and possible negatives, don't get me wrong. I want the Fold!
I love being an early adopter and have saved up for this thing. I've been following Samsung over the years and drooling at all of their foldable prototypes.
With Samsung's track record on gorgeous displays, I know I'll love the tablet screen. I think that the small front screen is not a deal breaker because I liken it to my Lock/AOD screen where I glance at information then move on to the larger screen. It will be just one more step to fully open the Fold. Not inconvenient when you know what's coming! A huge, beautiful screen.
The COOL factor for the Fold is priceless! I am so anxious to get it and I know the feeling will continue as others spot the phone and want to check it out.
If the Fold ends up being a fantastic phone for me, then I'll be selling off a few other Tablets I have as well as my N9.
This is going to be Big! Cannot wait to play!

Based off of the limited amount of people that will buy and have this device probably not, but I could be wrong ?

I'll miss the spen even though I don't use it that often, but the main thing I'll miss about that functionality is being able to capture video as an animated gif (I don't know if this exists on the S series as I've only used Notes as far as Samsung's go). I'll probably use my old Wacom dumb capacitive stylus that's been sitting a drawer for a few years for the simple diagrams I draw in meetings using One note. It did the trick when I used to use an iPad all of the time.
The small screen might get irritating if I want to tap out a message as I already find it difficult using something as small as an iPhone SE. Although with keyboard customisation maybe bigger keys can make that easier.
The notch doesn't really bother me. A hole punch would be equally as distracting as a notch to me on a regular phone, but in a screen that big I can't see it being a problem.
I'm definitely changing the scaling and fitting more on that display. Apparently that's how you get many apps to use tablet mode rather than a big phone layout, so I'll be really happy if that's actually true. But I'd set my mind on getting one even before I heard about that so I won't mind if it doesn't work on everything.
I haven't seen whether Dex is available in tablet mode as it is on the larger Samsung tablets. That would be a killer app for me. I know we can use up to 3 apps, but it's not the same as having a few windows layered and tapping between them, especially if you're copying and pasting between a few documents and you want that bigger layout on each to see text placement properly. Maybe someone will manage to extract and develop an apk that doesn't require root for that.
With regards to the above, I used to have a Toshiba PDA that ran Windows Mobile and with it's 800x600 display you could change the screen scaling and achieve a similar effect. It was pretty great.
The thing I'm mainly looking forward to is reducing my travel kit from a phone, tablet, and kindle to just one device. Ok maybe not just one device, I'll have room for my Switch more often now. Airport security love giving my bags an extra search due to all of the gadgets I end up carrying, and hopefully this will mean I just sail through like most other people.
And while it may be an elitist prick move, I want people to notice it. Most friends and colleagues know I'm a tech geek, but nobody notices the tech anymore, as all of the phones and tablets look so similar. They don't realise it's something new or cool and don't ask. Plus, nowadays all it involves is showing off something a bit faster with more storage and a better camera. Nothing has done anything new for years now. This brings back that wow factor when new phones had something brand new and sparks conversation about the future again.

The US devices will have locked bootloaders just like the other US Samsung devices. Unless I've missed it there is no word on international devices yet. If you're like me and root is a necessity you might want to consider waiting until the situation is sorted out.
Edit... One other thing I ran into today in regards to a potential S-pen is that a reviewer was opining the screen was too soft to support writing. That was a stated opinion not a fact from Samsung. So a guess but not an unreasonable one; It isn't hard to imagine the screen not being able to hold up to a pen.

The specs on Samsung.com for the Fold only show NFC for Samsung Pay. They did the same thing on the Galaxy Watches.

Doubtful on AT&T or T-MO devices... You know it's always that locked bootloader thing in US phones.

This would be great! I'm wondering if it's for Non US Folds. I'm hoping it's for everyone. I wish I had the eSim/nano sim option but not with my carrier (AT&T).

I was just reading AT&T version of the manual & no mention of MST, only NFC. THAT would be stupid to me & I'd really miss it.
