I'm pretty sure that Mexico uses GSM phones so I don't think your phone will work. And if the phone isn't connected to sprint's network you wont recieve the OTA update anyway. And the update isn't coming till February at the earliest.

Yeah, you wont get the OTA update but I can almost guarantee that it will be here to flash the same day. As much as everyone wants ICS, its almost a given

Your phone will not receive the update over the air unless you are activated on sprint. You can flash it once the rom is up on XDA.

This is slightly tangential to the original topic but are you saying that you unlocked the phone and can now use it on a different carrier. For example, I could unlock mine and switch to Verizon?

That's right...
but on my case I activated on Mexico, and my doubt is...if when release the Android ICS...I can upgrade my device without problem..??
Regards...

You should have no problem updating, but you will have to download the update to a computer from Sprint, then follow their instructions to manually update it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

Unlocking the phone is not the issue. Getting the MSL/SPC is trival process especally on a rooted phone. Non rooted, use cdma work shop. The msl allows you to enter the required settings to get it working on the new network. The issue is getting the new carrier to enter the meid into their system. Good luck getting Verizon to enter the meid into their system or Sprint entering a Verizon meid into their system.
Once you leave the land of subsidized phones, moving CDMA phones from one CDMA carrier to another CDMA carrier is pretty common.

U can't put this phone on verizon. Unless u do it the illegal cloning route. Which is not illegal there so you can

well, then I will not have a problem when google release a new version of the Android?

Roger's Galaxy Nexus - Any bloatware & is it yakju

Finally GNex for Rogers.
Anybody get it yet?
I'm just curious because I don't trust my own carrier at all, they have a tendency to screw things up royally all the time. (last time I bought a phone from them was the HTC Dream) and that was a huge mess with the entire cannot dial 911 with data enabled forcing an entire legal issue and a mandatory patch or suspension of service. Since then I've happily owned a Nexus One (shipped from Google) for the past two wonderful years.
Can anybody confirm that Rogers has not stuck their dirty fingers inside our dear Galaxy Nexus? (no bloatware, no Rogers Logo on boot, etc etc)
also this isn't a deal breaker but I'm just wondering if it's yakju or not.
as long as it is not Rogers Branded at all I'll go pick mine up today =)
THANKS for any info guys
It won't be branded as Rogers. Pure stock. Yakju? Not sure, you can just change it later if you desire.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I've done a lot of searching around the forums to know that yakju or not I can live with it, I know that it should be clean and not branded at all, but it's my life long experience with Rogers that has conditioned me never to assume the best with this company...
yet the reason I stay is because they do provide one of the best services in Toronto. Nothing would make me happier to pay $30 for voice and data with Wind or Mobilicity but truth be told, reliability is more important even if it costs 3 times more...
It doesn't matter if you have yakju or yakjuux.. I am glad you decided you can live with it being either

I would like to know this also. I am getting pretty antsy right now waiting for Rogers to call so I can go pick up my phone.

This might not mean anything but my friend got his from Fido and he said that it has no bloatware from them so perhaps its a sign that Rogers decided to not put anything on there.

Sorry to get off topic, but I've been on Rogers for years (like you, ordered a N1 from google) but my service of late was ****. Dropped called, dropping out of 3g, slow, slow internet and no service while my co-workers were chatting away on their phones. I thought my phone was defective by I looked on howard forums and there's tons of people having issues. Long story short I broke my contract and moved to virgin so I could get the GN right away. The service is SO MUCH BETTER! It was the best $200 I ever spent.
If you've got a good plan with rogers, fair enough, but I assure you, their service is not longer the best.
I've had mine 2 days with rogers..it's awesome.just get volume +, and I hope we get 4.02 soon,bell / virgin started yesterday
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I just picked mine up within the last hour and so far everything is sweet.
Just a question i have though, for OTA updates does a popup show in the notification bar or am I suppose to go look manually to see if updates are available on a site or something?
I have same question...i think it notifies if you reboot, or go into"about phone"and click on system updates, and it verifies. Nothing yet, but I hope to get it soon

Where did you see that bell/virgin phones are getting 4.0.2? I haven't seen a single post of this yet.
What radio is the rogers nexus using?
hey , for people who recently bought the ROGERS Galaxy Nexus, can you post what MODEM/BASEBAND version it came with???
I'm curious if its any different from the Bell/Virgin/International ones
And if so, could someone pull the radio for us to flash?
I'm using an international Galaxy Nexus on Rogers and am curious if the Rogers GN radio will benefit
Thanks!
Visit mobilesyrup was a post last night, people commented that they received it

Sprint HTC EVO 4G in Japan

Hi guys,
I'll be headed to Japan for about, oh, ten weeks this summer. I was wondering if there was anyway to get my OG EVO to work in Japan. I only need it to make calls, so I wouldn't need data at all.
On a side note, I'm still in the middle of a 2-year contract with Sprint. Does Sprint have any of those thingys where they can temporarily turn off my service? I've seen this for other carriers, wondering if Sprint can do this.
Thanks for all your support!

Merge your sprint number with Google voice its free. Then use grove Ip for calls over WiFi.
Text works also.calls are cheaper than Skype.

So how was your trip? I'm very curious to hear if you were able to use your Evo while in Japan?
I have the SGS3 and will be going to Tokyo, Japan in February for a week. It looks like KDDI uses the same 800 CDMA band that Sprint does and is listed as an international roaming partner. However the texts situation seemed a little foggier, in that it only works over the UTMS band, so are you not able to send and receive texts on your Evo???
I will be on WiFi and I won't be using any mobile data, so I'm not worried there, but was curious if I could communicate via text with my wife somehow (she'll be there too, but we won't always be in the same place). If voice works for some nominal fee like it does in Canada, that would work too.
Let me know!
To my knowledge you should be able to make text messages via your carrier, however I dunno what charges will be incurred.
All Japanese networks are CDMA so you can switch to best. Softbank or Docomo are your more likely options

I meant outside of north America, since the north American continent has the largest cdma network in the world, it would be a given at least a portion of Canada would be covered.

A sprint store should be able to figure it out. If it's a brand new phone I don't see why not.
What plan do you have?
Can't activate on Verizon either
I'm having the same problem-- but with Verizon. Bought it from ebay, in great communication with the seller who is trying to help.
Phone isn't stolen/lost; no outstanding balances on the phone or my plan.
Factory data reset didn't help one bit. Can't activate fully-- just get internet (no calls/texts).

Did you get a new 4g sim card with your new phone? Or a sim replacement? You need to activate the sim card, but as long as its already activated, any device should work.

Are you sure it's a Sprint Galaxy Nexus? Take some pictures of the phone. What does the backcover contain?
Yep, this is the third new SIM (LTE) card. Been to both the store and on the phone with Verizon tech reps.
Tech reps say activation is "stuck at the switch" (this is day 3... btw)
should I unroot it? I've already done 2 factory data resets.... Or should I just wait it out?

A lot of custom roms do not have all the required proprietaries needed for such things like sim activation. Or they include them, but do not sign them correctly.

I don't suggest asking them to put it in a display device to activate....i don't think they normally do that and will probably look at you like you have spiders crawling out your nose lol
Just put it on a stock ROM
When i got my nexus it came with liquid on it unlockedrooted
i just flashed the 4.04 stock ROM build that bird man compiled found over at rootzwiki and it got activated
At this point you have the option of putting the official stock 4.04 vzw build on it tho which i would recommend, preferably one without any tweaks, rooted should be fine tho
To the OP, try putting your self on a stock ROM for sprint and you should be gravy
Good luck!

yea the thing is that my phone is not activated on a carrier, i brought this phone used but the IMEI is clean, it had been flashed to boost mobile, I took it to some stores aka metro, boost and they say it can be activated (Not metro anymore due to tmobile merge)
personally i never had a activated phone, but when i install roms i it keeps going to some activation phonecall.
long story short i want to flash it to verizon and make sure that i can activate because im selling the phone to someone.

If it were stolen and "blacklisted", I doubt the device would be working fine.
Unless "blacklisted" is only effective for use in the USA, as Google suggests.
Google:

is there any way to tell if this phone was bought directly from google or via a carrier? In the USA or somewhere else?

That's too bad. I guess you have no other recourse.
I would contact Google, giving them the IMEI and serial number and ask what info they can provide.

Mine is a Verizon phone purchased form UAE, it also shows blacklisted but it works just fine. I receive monthly updates without any problem, even adb sideloaded android pie full OTA when it got released. Main issue with mine is that I cannot unlock its bootloader so obviously can't root it but i believe you can unlock yours and root it.

Oh! I didn't think of that!
That is something to consider.
I guess I'm out of suggestions.

If it's working and it says it's blacklisted, it's probably a U.S. only thing as Google suggests.
Clearly someone managed to get Google financing and stopped making payments. So no, you didn't buy a stolen phone. Anyway, the blacklist carriers use here in the United States is only effective if the phone itself is in the US. In your case, where you are in Pakistan, the device will work normally even though it's blacklisted.
For a period of time there was talk of every carrier worldwide using the same blacklist, which would really ruin your day. As of now, obviously nothing has come of it.
Generally a IMEI will only be blacklisted in the country it was reported stolen.
