[q] vm heap size? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive seen in my Build.prop file or whatever its called, I was looking through it and it says a line about the vm heap size = 32, if I changed that to a larger number wouldit make any performance differences and if so what number is recommended? <3

it's better to use some app like SD-booster or system tuner pro . increase your heap size step by step and check witch one is stabler for you .
i already using 1024 , (( for me )) it's better than 512 and 2048
good luck man

Vm heap I changed it to 60 and its faster but ypu need to free internal memory and boost your sd card using rom manager.

Q

Im trying to partition my sd card so I can have it for roms that utilize apps2sd so I go onto rom manager to pick my ext size and I pic 512 (the largest they have ) then it asks me for the swap size??? No idea what that is it defaults at 32mb with a few more choices ...I have the stock 8gig (7.40) actual space. So...what swap size should I use?

Default options are usually fine. Go with 512MB for apps and 32MB for swap.

[Q] How much free memory do you have?

I´m just curious here, how much memory do you have free on your phone?
Mine are 148 MB free ROM and 281 MB free RAM.
Does this in anyway correlate to how fast games run?
Bring me some of your numbers! =)
the xperia play has a total of 380 MB ROM , its enough for lots of apps , and if its not , you can always move your apps to SD Card and free some space

That´s interesting. My numbers in the first post is on 4.0.2.A.0.42. I have removed apps that I deem unneccesary and want to make gaming run as speedy as possible.
I wonder if the new update will use more or less RAM than before, or if it even will be a difference?
Click the link in my signature to add more internal memory on your phones. I have about 275MB free on my internal memory now btw.

How do you guys have plenty of memory? I'm unrooted but even if I was I don't see how I could bring about drastic changes.

If you´re rooted you can bring about drastic changes in the memory-area, turn off stuff running in the background eating RAM-memory etc.
I have used titanium backup and deleted a lot of system apps that I don´t use. I use my phone for: Telephoning, Messaging, Surfing, Gaming (emulator), and Google Maps. Nothing more.

All I can tell you do is root and remove system apps. That frees up a lot of space. Also put everything on the sd card.

You must have a misunderstood concept of free RAM. Actually, the less free RAM you have, the faster your apps get. This free RAM is consumed by cached processes invisible to anything else that is not a system app. You can go to the Free RAM screen, press Menu and select Show Cached Processes to see your true free RAM. The more cached RAM there is, the faster it gets. I remember someone here at these forums actually posted the difference between "free" and free RAM, can't remember though. The Xperia Play can run BOTH of them at the same time, just like an iPhone 4S, especially if you are supercharged.

320 could be 360 if I flash the 40mb increase. No apps on SD

Also using Link2sd with a 2ext 1gb partition(575mb used/443mb free). Internal memory's at 201mb free. RAM is ~200(240 on boot, settles around 202).
-Stock R800x 2.3.3 rooted w/o vzw's bloatware. Ive got zeppelinrox's v6 Supercharger update9 r7 running with option 6 and bulletproof important apps. SetCPU stock speeds, just some profiles. Dalvik linked to sd as well.
I've gotta say it took some tweaking, but this phone is SNAPPY. All thanx to the devs here at xda. Lots of love fellas!

Setting swap space

Hi everyone.
My main question is should set swap space to 0 or other number. If I'm not mistaking new Android phones come with swap space not set to 0. I always heard when I use Linux as my main OS that u should set swap space the same or twice of ur ram memory value. I'm asking this coz everyone says to set swap space 0 but ics uses swap space by default and in Linux OS u should never set swap as 0 unless u have enough memory ram(6 or 8gb of ram) and still is not recommend. Anyone who has a better idea of how this works, please explain. I'm very confuse here.. ;(

Then what is the point in set a swap space if the value is 0. The OS is not gonna use it, right???

If the kernel you are using supports swap, then set it

Moving Apps to SD card bloats size

Hello, I tried this experiment
- angry birds friends original app size 52Mb
- moved to SD card on 4.2.2 overall size increased to 70mb
- moved app back to main memory size reduced to 60mb
- removed and reinstalled the app and size is back to 52mb
Can anyone explain why this happens? The overheads to move apps to SD seem unrealistic to say the least...

Size of the internal storage partitions?

Can anyone tell me what size their internal storage partition is. Mine seems to be small and for a 32 gig device there is a lot of storage that is missing.
I have 2.11 with only 1.40 available. The other partition is 25.23 in size. To me that adds up to 27.34, a lot smaller than the 32.
