You don't have an icon that's the white folder with a yellow thing sticking out? Can you set a widget for the email application (essentially getting at if the app is somehow uninstalled)?

I can find the email app (White folder with yellow as you say) if I search the phone, and it works fine. But I have no icon for it anywhere so I cannot access it without searching the phone. Very weird.
Edit: Being a muppet here and hadn't found the app page! I am coming from an iphone so go easy on me, lol. Although now I have another problem it seems. When I use the sync button, any emails in my in box disappear.

Gmail app or mail?

Currently im getting 2 notifications for the same email, the mail app lets me download the attachments i get , i cant seem to do that on the gmail app, just lets me preview the music i get sent and not download it for example.
so basically which of the two is better, can i stop getting two notifications at once, if i remember correctly the gmail app seems to always receive the mail 1st, is there away to download attachments from the gmail app?
If you check out my thread here, there are some problems with both the Gmail application and the Mail application.
If you have to pick one or the other to use exclusively, I would use the Mail application. (ie, can save attachments, can click links, can select text to copy to clipboard, can attach files other than photos)
You can stop getting 2 notifications at once. Do one of the below.
To stop Gmail notification:
Open Gmail application - Press Menu key - Tap "Settings" - Toggle "Email notifications"
To stop Mail notification:
Open Mail application - Press Menu key - Tap "More" - Tap "Notification settings" - Toggle "Email notifications"
you do realise that when you tap preview in the google app, it actually downloads the file anyway, right? well, for some files it does. Pictures are downloaded anyway. i would assume music should be the same.
you should then find it in downloads in the browser....

This does not work for all files though. It annoys me that .zip files and basically every "unknown" format is not available for preview/download through the standard Gmail app. I have been using Gmail in the browser to download these earlier, but if it works in the default Mail program, its a godsent.
I moved ovr to the mail app a few minutes ago, seems more comprehensive BUT I am a bit concerned about battery life as the sync logo in the notification is constantly on ...
Also if I use the Mail app with exchange to do calendar as well do I get the colour coded calendars as I like to know what belongs to what calendar ?

It is probably still syncing your mail. Let it be for a while.
I am wondering what uses most battery, Exchange Push from Gmail, or regular Gmail push?
Why would you use Exchange to sync you gCal? You get colour coding by default in the standard gCal sync. I have disabled the autosync of Gmail, and am now using Exchange Push instead.
No raeson for using the gCal to be honest, was just trying to extend battery.
Mail app seems quite comprehensive . I like it just need the bloody sync logo to stop!
Don't need to worry about the sync logo if it's not rotating. It's only actively syncing when it's rotating.
Thanks guys ...

NEW PROBLEM! I don't seem to get notifications yet they are turned on. Ican't check for sound as I am at work but I don't see anything in the notification bar ... not sure of light though ...
whats the advantages of using the xchange server? i just signed in regularly, and seem to get mail fast no issues, ?
also as google mail does not have a widit i have the normall mail program on one of my home screens, but the normal mail program recives mail once every 15 mins, the google one seems to recive instantly, can i set the htc mail program to get mail the same way google mail does?
You have to set it up as an ActiveSync Exchange account instead of a POP3/IMAP account to get push support
You then go in to the Mail settings and choose Push in the interval settings.
oh ok, is that easy to set up lol?
it keeps sayin authentication error, ami ment to write somthing in "Domain" , its a gmail email

It's just you. I've been syncing with Google's Exchange server ever since my Touch Diamond days. Follow the directions in the following link to the letter.

[Q] No GMail Notification on Sense 4.0 lockscreen?

I wonder why there is no GMail Notification on the Productivity Lockscreen? Why is there only a notification for the plain Mail Client, but not for GMail?
Am I just blind and can't find the option to activate it, or is it faulty, that means you other guys have GMail notification?
I appreciate any feedback
Probably deliberately missing as HTC use their own Email client
Blame Google, not HTC. Its been ages now but Google changed the Gmail app to improve security and one of the changes is that other apps are no longer able to query to the number of messages unread in Gmail.

I thought that was fixed as of Gmail 2.3.6, I believe.
Others apps are able to use that call function (SMS Unread, MissedIt!, etc)
Has anyone had any luck with this? I would love to have my Gtalk and Gmail notifications on the lock screen when I have new messages...

Only workaround I can think of, off the top of my head would be to install a Lockscreen replacement (WidgetLocker for example) and use an app such as SMS Unread Count OR Missed It! to get those quick counts in there.
I don't know of any app that can give you a quick preview of your unread emails (subject, etc) that's not to say that it doesn't exist; I'm just not aware of one.
can't you just add google mail as one of the accounts within the native app? open the native app and go to menu/new account. you can choose a mail provider, including gmail. don't know if it will run two accounts at once. haven't tried it, and am not using gmail as my main account. so take what i suggest with a grain of salt. good luck.

Choose E-mail account to send photo

1) Take picture
2) Go to sharing screen
3) Choose e-mail photo
4) New e-mail opens up with photo attached, showing default e-mail account
5) No way to change to a different account?
Am I missing something? This is like the simplest thing. I have never seen a phone not give you the option to change which e-mail account you're sending from.
For GMail? When I click share, it takes me to the compose page in GMail, and if I tap the email account, it gives me the drop-down to select other GMail accounts.
If you mean the stock "EMail" app, I only have 1 account there, can't check.

No, the e-mail client. You never get an option to change the account after you choose e-mail. It just creates a new mail using your default account and there's no way to change it.

Weird. Guess you'll have to just have to go to the EMail app first, and attach from there.

Yeah, well I obviously already know that works. It's a disappointing oversight. I have never had a phone that wouldn't let me pick the e-mail account I was sending from and I have had a lot of android phones.

Quite annoying. The integrated EMail app is pretty decent (3rd party ones are better), but they would obviously prefer you use GMail. I just use EMail for my university account, which is an Outlook/Exchange setup.
Google always does this, they forget about multiple accounts

Email App

I try to use Stock Email App. I found push option only to be with Microsoft exchange (others have only Smart Sync or 5 minuts minimum). I tried to use it but I have a problem.
Once I receive the email and read it, it does not update the server that I have read the email and it is still marked as unread on google.com site.
IS there any solutions?
Use the gmail app
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
push email
try mail droid in google play
What email do you use?
Gmail ? Or a company Microsoft exchange server?

He says on the google.com site so I'm assuming it's gmail
I am using Gmail.
With Gmaill app I dont have banner notification on lock screen and no unread mail counter.
have you checked the notification settings are correct?
the app also cannot display an unread count on the icon - you need a launcher such as apex or to use an app like this

Don't know why that happens to you, when I open the email app
(not gmail) my isp pop3 email roadrunner email opens normally,
I don't get another window or screen that I need to click on.
Both my roadrunner email and gmail open pretty much
the same way without any additional screens to click on.
Perhaps you forgot to click on the "x" next to "priority senders"
so next time you open the email app it will no longer display
them on top of your screen.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
My gmail opens normal but the msn (exchange email) does this and cant find a setting to change it might delete account and try again

I don't have an exchange email account, just the default email pop3
roadrunner which is my internet service provider so I don't know how
the exchange email supposed to work.
Yea i thought mine was pop 3 sinceits a hotmail account but it shows in accounts as exchange lol but ill try to see if i cant fix this not a big deal just annoying to have to click twice to get to full email lol
Figured this out...if you set it to standared view instead of conversation view then its one click straight to the message instead of going to a preview window then clicking to read full message
