Had everything fine, S-OFF, rooted, Cm7
Mistakenly formated my /system in clockwork recovery
Now I have .98 HBOOT but w/ S-OFF
clockwork recovery works
can install ROMS and boot CM7, miui
I have superuser installed
but when i try to install an app that needs root (such as font installer, for example), i have no root. Can't update busybox or superuser either.
What can I do to gain root back?
Flash superuser.zip from recovery.

I've tried that, but it still won't work. Busybox won't work either.
Tried Unrevoked but it fails, too.
Suggestion
I suggest you flash a new HBOOT (alpharev.nl) and start over again (Revolutionary, custon recovery, root, etc.).
I hope it will work. Would you mind reporting back?

How should I do that? Alpharev looks like its only for GSM (I'm CMDA). Would I use Revolutionary? Forgive my noobishness, I just don't want to mess this up further
I don't think there's a difference between CDMA and GSM in this respect. Try to find info here:

Thanks for the link I guess I'm wondering if I need to do the HBOOT stuff again, or if I can just flash recovery maybe since I already have S-OFF?
I think you should only reflash your Hboot.

Search this forum for a recovery download link and follow install instructions. One recovery is suggested here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15349806&postcount=1
If this doesn't help, use Revolutionary again, it installs custom recovery at the end. As next step, read this:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
and flasz zip which is in the middle of the page. It should fix superuser.

Agreed! With the bootlaoder now unlocked, what are the steps to rooting this beast? Do we still need to downgrade? Please pardon my noobness.
You wouldn't need to downgrade, I do know that. But as far as the rest, Idk. I did mine with revolutionary a while back before the 2.3.4 update, so I've been kicking ever since.

I would see if you can install superuser from the market.
EDIT: I would also see if you can install CWM and ROM manager. If all those install ok you should be able to load a custom ROM.

You do not have to downgrade if you unlocked. You should be able to install a new recovery image like Clockwork.

Installed CWM 5.0, superuser and after wiping data/cache and flashing a rom... Stuck at HTC White screen!
Flashed several roms, can't get passed it.
It's frustrating... No idea what to do next. I'm going to try flashing an earlier version of CWM and retry flashing a ROM.
Will update with progress.

How long are you waiting bro..?
First. You should have not used the htcdev garbage. You should have used revolutionary.
That is all.

When you flash a custom ROM from CWM on an unlocked HBOOT, you then need to manually extract the boot.img from the custom ROM zip file and manually flash it in Fastboot mode using the command
Fastboot flash boot [path to the boot.img file]
This has been documented multiple times in this forum.

Yes in your case you will need to relock the bootloader in order to flash the RUU/PG32IMG.zip file. You cannot flash a RUU on an unlocked bootloader.
I'm guessing you guys have something other than .98 hboot? I'll find out soon when my wifes replacement comes in but I was not intending to use the HTC unlocker if I didn't have to. I was planning to try the tool attn1 has posted in the dev section unless the hboot changed with the ota.

Good to hear kinda thought it was. I'll be using the method attn1 has posted then. I don't trust the unlock method through HTC for one main reason which is this... Unlocking bootloader and rooting voids warranty as we all know. So what happens when HTC knows your bootloader was unlocked because you used their tool and they have the serial number?

i know i`m rooted but the main problem is the radio, its causing heavy loss of speed over wifi network so i`m asking for the root on stock 2.2.1 wherein wifi works perfect and if i am not wrong its the radio downgrade that used to happen during the actual rooting process of downgrading the O.S. after S-OFF`ing the device so i also mentioned about the radio onto my actual post.
Ah, okay, to root stock firmwares you need to download a superuser.zip.

Download the recovery from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?398dklf1uzss5f6
Put it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders)
Boot the phone into the bootloader
Allow the update
Turn phone off and remove SD card
Boot into the recovery
If you did all this correct, you should now have CWM recovery installed.

Yes, boot into the OS and put the file on your SD card, then boot back into the bootloader.
Also once you have got a stock rom rooted download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...utm_medium=organic&utm_term=busybox+installer and install busybox as some root apps won't work without it....

Hello,
I have a WFS which is S-ON.
I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com.
When i restart the phone in the bootloader, i see in the first line "UNLOCKED"; the phone is still S-ON.
When i try to root it (supertoolv3), it says it's rooted at the end, but nothing is done after the restart.
Also by installing Superuser and Busybox from the play store does not help.
I don't want to put a custom bootloader nor Rom, just want a rooted phone to uninstall some bloatware and use some applications...
Another question i have is how to flash a stock rom with the Belgium Dutch AZERTY keyboard... Anyone an idea?
My actual rom has version 2.26.401.4
Does anyone has an idea what i can try?
Already thanks!

Please follow the above guides. I believe they are the simplest guides there is on rooting wildfire, and do read and understand everything before attempting to root.
If you have a question, please first try searching it in the wildfire forums, you are likely to find your answers that way.

I said I had clockworkmod, I didn't say it worked! and it doesn't without it being rooted.
So before I update I want to backup all the original ROM.
Also if I update will this unlock the device to any network as I have had other windows phones that did?
I just don't want to brick it!!!!

okay,I will try to be clear as possible, follow the given guide to root your phone, I used that guide to root mine, and was successful at the first try. so, if you follow that guide word to word, there should be no problems. you'll be rooted within 10 minutes.
while rooting you'll have to reset your phone,so contacts and mssgs will be lost. also keep a backup of your SDcard.
this process will also install clockworkmod recovery, so after rooting you'll be able to backup your current ROM using CWM. after that you can flash any ROM you like.
as for simlock I'm not quite sure rooting will simunlock your phone. there is a thread about this,so please read that.
I hope this answers all your questions, if not, at least some. good luck..!
