Trying to set up company email (ie, Exchange) on my shiny new SGS2 and I get a nasty looking license that tells me Samsung wants the right to send my IMEI and other mobile phone data to the "licensors of the application." Who the hell are these licensors, why do they want my phone info and why should I give it to them?
What happened to the Google "Mail" client that's been on every other phone I've used? (No, not GMail. Just plain old Mail.) And is there another (free) Exchange client I could use?
that's probably related to the CIQ issue

Maybe, but the interesting thing is that only pops up when I try to set up a corporate email account on my SGS2. If it were CIQ related, shouldn't I get that license agreement when I set up the phone? CIQ has its dirty little fingers in everything, not just email.
Talk to your exchange administrator ...it's probably a policy they are applying.

No it's only TW email apk specific. Aosp email does not do this. It's not caused by a policy set by an exchange admin. it states this before the account is fully created and before you get a prompt for exchange policies acknowledgment.

I was wondering how I go about connecting my my school's email address ending in a .edu to my phone instead of my gmail account?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The email.apk should handle all email accounts. Gmail.apk is intended for Google Mail accounts.

The problem I have is figuring out what type of email account it is. The email address is powered through google but it has a csu.fullerton.edu domain. Its the weekend so I can't go to school and ask someone either. If someone has a similar school email like myself, it would be greatly appreciated if you told me what you typed in for the settings of your account.

It's really going to depend on your school - it could be anything. At my school, its webmail.(school initials here).edu. You're probably going to have to just log onto their web email application for now.
I hate the email app(. Thanks for all the replies!

My college uses webmail (run by Google) for email. All I did was in the Gmail app, add an account and put in my [email protected](school initals).edu and password and it worked. No special settings or anything in the gmail app.
Hey,
if it takes you to what gmail looks like give this a try~

There is no Exchange 2008. Modern Exchanges are 2000,2003,2007,2010 so far.
I've never had an issue with an android running at least eclair connecting to an exchange server. are you certain activesync is properly setup and nothing is blocking port 80/443 inbound to the exchange server?

I think you mean Windows Server 2008 R2. If they have ActiveSync enabled on your account and the right ports forwarded you should be good.
Are you able to reach the Outlook Web Access page?
I looked for owa can't figure how to actually get to it. But yes it is 2008 r2. My boss has it synced to his wm7 phone s it is really irritating me that I'm not able to do it so far. I odin flashed stock ec05 no luck. It says unable to connect to server.

Is the OWA Url. Can you access your companies email via this route?
Yes. I have tried multiple apps to access and no go. I know this shouldn't be complicated but my boss owns an IT company and can't get it to work on this phone. What else besides making changes to the exchange server is there? For the giggles of it I turned off usb debugging.
Would a logcat of the fail connection help?

I can access outlook web access on a pc. I need exchange sync for the calendar syncing and email notifications. I went on to samsung support site for the epic and people there said this feature didn't work at all for this phone. In owa I can see that my phone is seen by the server. I might make changes to the exchange server itself to fix this problem. From what I read android doesn't have the right encryption to do exchange sync properly with all phones.

We use Exchange 2007 at work and we have plenty of Android devices synced to it. We just use the native email client on the Epics. Does the Epic complete the email account setup process when you try to add the account?

Reset your password on the server and try again. Make sure your account isn't locked out either.
If you have a legit Exchange Certificate leave SSL checked. Otherwise uncheck SSL.
I have tested it with exchange 2007 and 2010 seems to work fine. Try the following.
username try [email protected] If that doesnwork try domain\id example
[email protected] or microsoft\bobjones You can find your domain name when you go to log into a pc press CTL ALT DEL the machine shoud say logged in as domain\userid.
If I didn't enter in username or password right it would give authentication error. The error I'm getting says can not connect to server or unable to connect to server. Thanks to you guys for letting me know that you are capable of exchange sync and its not the phone as a whole.

I have the glide and have not been able to succefully receive ANY IMAP emails. I just recently switched from Sprint to AT&T, I have the 4gig data plan with teithering. My email account is with Go Daddy. I use these same excact settings on my laptop and on my old Epic phone. Both worked flawlessly. Now that I've switch I cannot get it to work on my glide. I tried removing and reinstalling the accounts. I've tried on the wife's phone as well. I can send out emails fine, but none will pull down. Here are the Go Daddy server settings.
Incoming: imap.secureserver.net port 993
Ougoing: smtpout.secureserver.net port 465
Using built in email client on Droid 2.3.5 non-rooted
I use these same setting on my desktop with Outlook and on my old Samsung Epic using WiFi with no problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks!
I don't have the glide but when i was setting up my corporate account for my job I has to change the security setting in the email client and the port it used. Might want to try the settings in there and see if that helps.

K9 pulled my msgs right down super quick. I don't really care for the GUI, but it will have to work for now. I also called Samsung and they could care less that this is a bug with the Cap Glide. And wants me to try pop3. I hate pop3 and shouldn't have to use it, just be cause they have a bug in there software.
Anyways, thank for your help, K9 will do for now!

Thanks but my GoDaddy account only allow IMAP and POP3. Maybe in the future a custom rom will fix it.
I am currently using Enhanced Email because it doesn't force me to enter a PIN from the lockscreen (requirement from work's exchange server), but I prefer the stock E4GT email app. Does anyone have or know of a work around to having to enter a PIN with the stock app?
They have a stock email apk with security stripped out. Kind of a ***** to set up but it works great

I think this is what you are looking for. I haven't personally tested it because I am fortunate enough to not have to use exchange any longer, but several people that I have supplied this apk for said that it worked for exchange.
HowTo "push" using RootExplorer in the Toolkit link in my signature if you are unfamiliar.

I'm all for choice... here's the Samsung's Email.apk with the PIN requirement removed as well. It doesn't differ much from AOSP, but it's your choice.
This is for deodexed ROMs only.
Remove any accounts already setup in Email.
Place file in /system/app.
Reboot.
Re-setup accounts back into Email.

As someone who runs an exchange environment what you are doing is incredibly irresponsible. you deserve whatever comes from doing this.

As a side note, if you use Touchdown, then you can still secure the Exchange side without having to lock down the rest of the device. It's a much better overall client for Exchange anyway.

While I appreciate both of your concerns, you're both wrong in this case. My employer doesn't even know how it got turned on. It happened when we got a new server.
Being the VP of Operations, I don't think I will be fired seeing as the President wanted this too. Also, I always try to get as much detail as possible before I start handing out "advice" or telling strangers how to conduct their business.
My employer has set a 3 day limit on activesync email syncing -- anyway to override this to "all / forever"?
not if its set by the server. you can go to your sync options and change it if its not a server limitation.
