I have searched and searched and i cant find a simple answer anywhere, anyway i rooted my phone about 2 weeks ago for the first time using Advanced Ace Hack Kit everything went smooth and now i am running the latest cynogenmod nightly and LorDModUE V8.5 kernel. all i want to know is if flashing a radio is really as simple as placing the PD98IMG.zip in the \AceHack\PD98IMG folder and flashing or im i missing something not trying to brick my phone "yet"..
P.S
I have selected the latest radio from this thread is this recommended?
thank you in advance
sorry for my noobish ways

Never used Ace Hack Kit, but You can flash radio with method described by leith51 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597 it's very easy.
It's hard to say which radio version would be right for You. It depends for example where do You live. Very often developers recommend radio version for their ROM's. If not i recommend You to flash the latest version.
Thanks for your reply ill check that thread out when I leave work how do I give a Thankyou?

I can't count how many times i flashed radio's and ROM's but i NEVER checked md5 sum if You'll flash a radio from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295 shouldn't be no problems

So the reason you want to check MD5 is to make sure that your Radio.img is not corrupted. If it does happen to be corrupted and you flash a corrupted Radio there's a good chance you will completely brick your device. As mentioned by cwibel, visit this radio thread and take a pick at which radio you want. If you picked the recommended Radio for exmaple:
* 28th April 2011: Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - HTC Ace Gingerbread S 2.36.405.5
Radio.img MD5 Checksum: 2dc4cfc01516d71c8d68ac2c5e2feda0
You will see that there is also the MD5 Checksum there. Now download something like WinMD5Sum and do a MD5 on the Radio.img not the .zip containing it. To verify its integrity the MD5 should match up to the one posted in the thread.
As for which method of actually flashing the Radio, I recommend using this one here. I just flashed my Radio using that guide yesterday and it couldn't have gone any better. Very straight forward and worked as it should.
EDIT: If you want to check whether your phone is ENG S-OFF just reboot into the Bootloader and have a look at the first string of text, it should read "ACE PVT ENG S-OFF", otherwise if it reads "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF" then you only have Radio S-OFF.
Thank you both so much I understand the whole process now just one more question. I don't have eng s-off Do I have to use the visionary tool to permroot and all of that or do I just skip to plugging into my pc And using the Desire HD easy s-off.exe because I'm already rooted or do I run the whole process ?

I now have eng s-off thanks to you guys but now the "start here" msdos in the radio flash zip won't open I've put the radio img In the folder it just opens and closes maybe it's just my system?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah might be just your system. Try this:
Press Windows + R on the keyboard and type "cmd" in the Run dialogue.
OR
Right click in the Radio flash folder > New > Shortcut > Then when it asks you to browse type "cmd" > Next > Leave default name. Now to open up the cmd just right click on it and click "Open as administrator".
Whichever works.
Now you want to point the cmd to the folder in which you are working in.
To make things easier just move "Radio flash" folder to the root of your Windows drive. So if your Windows drive is C:\ drive then the folder location will be at "C:\Radio flash\", within this folder you should have your adb.exe, the radio.img and all the other stuff from the zip.
Now type:
cd "c:\Radio flash"
to point the cmd to the particular folder. Now you can begin doing whatever is asked in the radio flashing thread.
Thanks but it didn't work I'll give it a try on my brothers pc
Have you heard about flashing by renaming the radio .zip to PD98IMG.zip and booting into the boot loader seems very simple

i haven't use the ace hack kit so i'm not sure of the process, but that sounds like you've ticked all of the boxes to flash a radio. you can check that you have ENG S-OFF by booting in to bootloader and see if it says ACE PVT ENG S-OFF at the top and not ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
if you're ENG S-OFF you're good to go

Hello guys, I have a major problem on my HTC Desire. Most of it is my fault but please try to help out here and not judge me... :/
I use Miuimod. I had the 1.8.1 version and I went to install 2.1. The thing is that (for the first time!!!) I didn't check the last page of thread to find out that Miuimod 2.1 for Desire a major bug that forces an endless reboot.
And that's not all... Don't ask me why but.. I didn't make a NANDroid backup... :/ I was in a hurry and I didn't check the button from ROM Manager menu.
Also for a reason, I cannot boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. I only have hboot. Hboot lets you install a ROM only with the name update.zip. But even though I have renamed the last OpenDesire ROM as update.zip, it won't install it cause it doesn't have the proper signature.
So I'm kinda stuck with a semi bricked HTC Desire. Any suggestions?
(And just for the record, yeah, lesson learned... )
Are you s-off? If so, just flash a new recovery image through fastboot.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Wrong forum, Q/A should be right...
Try flashing clockwork over fastboot:
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img"
Put your SD in your computer and copy a ROM.zip on it, than flash as usual ?
Why why why??
What have you learnt from this mistake? Yes, ALWAYS install a custom recovery. Saves you this kind of trouble.
Okay I'm of no help, but I just wanted to tell.
@markuz85 No I'm s-on. In order to change to s-off I need to boot into device (right?).
@westernmg I'm trying to but adb shows no devices and I'm kinda stuck there.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance...
Try to pull out the battery and wait a few seconds then power on the phone again and press power+vol- and select recovery. If this don't work try to reflash an official htc desire rom renamed in update.zip from hboot.
Thanks for the answer. Can't find an official rom though. Can you point me at one?
@9600pro87 I did what you said but still nothing...

Hboot is ok, at least with phone off too if i remember right. The updater reboot the phone automatically.
It doesn't work. I get error [170] "Cannot connect to phone.." etc. Is it that I have changed the Radio?
I'm posting you the information on fastboot in case we can figure something out:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO 5.10.05.23
Mar 29 2010, 21:34:33
Any other suggestion?
Fortunately I solved the problem. This is what I did:
I basicaly rerooted my phone using Modaco's method. So when finished I had the default ROM again. Thank you all for your help!
Good that you solved the issue. But just so you know, that method of rooting is outdated. Rooting does not need downgrading, as of current hboots

Hi i have been trying to flash radio.img and have followed the steps in the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
However my phone always gets stuck/hang just as its about to finish when i do this step : 8. Once your phone has rebooted in to bootloader screen Type fastboot flash radio radio.img
What should i do?
Sorry to ask you a stupid question but do you have ENG S-Off? And from the radio thread you have to "wait until the send and write operations are completed (this may take a few minutes)".
yes i have s-off and eng-off already
in the command prompt it says writing 'radio' .....
it has been stuck like this for the past 40min :/
Did you have a look at the youtube flashing radio video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1dpfa0IAxw
i've just watched the video, and i did the same thing. but i would get stuck at around the 6min part of the video

You require s-off to flash custom ROMs and kernels. You require ENG S-off to flash a radio.
Edit: To quote from the above thread "After running this tool, you can flash any ROM and kernel to your device using ClockworkMod"
To quote from the same thread FAQ:
"Q: Why is this Radio Tool, does it flash a radio?
- From end user's view, it has nothing to do with radios, the name comes from the S-OFF technique this tool uses."
"Q: I tried to flash a radio, but it says not allowed!
- You will also need ENG S-OFF to flash radios, because ENG S-OFF enables fastboot commands"
Maybe pay to actually have a read of actually what your posting first, and if you'd read a few post's earlier, the OP said he was already ENG S-off?

No, its not the same. I know it can be hard to get your head around it at first, But if you ENG S-off, you will also need S-off first. If you have both, Bootloader will show only ENG S-off.
Edit: assume the op has managed to flash the radio?.. as we haven't heard back.

Rooted successfully yesterday, installed Caulkulins latest ROM and have been having constant reboots...so I figured I would reload my nandroid backup...but it won't happen.
I am loading the stock, rooted rom from Goo-Inside me using Rom Manager.
Now...is there a way to actually un-root?

Yes. You can find the stock unrooted ROM (it should be around here somewhere) and flash that. You will then be unrooted but still have S-OFF (NAND Unlocked). You can not get that last bit (S-ON) back for now.
You can find the stock ROM here. If you flash that I think you will be stock except for the S-OFF bootloader.

People cant answer a question that they have no answer too...Dont assume it can be done and others are hiding it from you. Quite sure the moment someone figures it out it will be posted....Until then you are going to have to either use the stock ruu or flash one of those stock looking roms without SU
I would think that you could go back to s-on but it seems the method to get there is a bit risky. If you were to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883548
it may be possible to get back hboot 2.16 and then ruu.
Edit: Flash hex edited hboot and then run ruu to obtain s-on.

I was able to hex edit the 2.16 HBOOT to 6.17, which allowed it to overwrite the Revolutionary HBOOT, and immediately set me to S-ON. Then, I flashed the stock GB 4.24 PC36IMG.zip, which successfully overwrote the hex-edited 2.16 HBOOT with the one from the PC36IMG, and my phone is back to stock! AWESOME .

UPDATED ON 7-MAR-2012
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU (SOMEHOW) BRICK YOUR DEVICE. FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Files Needed:
6.17 HBOOT - Hex-edited version of 2.16 HBOOT modified to overwrite Revolutionary version
[*]Official Stock ROM (RUU or PC36IMG.zip signed by HTC) - see bottom of post for list of several different stock ROM versions
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The file attached to this post can either be extracted, and the HBOOT.img flashed via Android Flasher, or it can be saved to the root of the /sdcard and flashed via Bootloader (file must be renamed to PC36IMG.zip to flash successfully).[*]If you are using File Explorer and do not see any file extensions, but Windows tells you that the file is a "ZIP file," do NOT add a .zip to the file name! That will result in this happening.
Steps to Un-Root Revolutionary (should work for all S-OFF EVO hardware versions):
Download HBOOT 6.17 and flash using Android Flasher or in Bootloader. Once flashing is complete, Reboot Bootloader and note NAND status. NOTE: At this point, your HBOOT version should be 6.17. If it isn't, then the modified HBOOT file did not flash successfully, and you will need to flash it again.
[*]If you're now "S-ON", move down to "After you're S-ON" section. If not (i.e. you are still "S-OFF"), continue on to next step.
[*]Download the Radio 2.15.00.11.19 from Calkulin's thread and install via recovery (if you'd prefer to install via Bootloader, use this version) - thanks to Calkulin
[*]Download unrevoked S-ON zip - thanks to unrevoked
[*]Boot into recovery and flash unrevoked S-ON zip.
[*]Boot into Bootloader and note NAND status - you should now be S-ON! Proceed to "After you're S-ON section".
After you're S-ON:
Flash an unrooted stock ROM to return your device to factory conditions. Here is a link to Football's thread, with several different RUU versions. Below are direct links to the latest official Froyo & Gingerbread PC36IMG.zip files that can be rooted with unrevoked and Revolutionary, respectively. Also included is the latest Gingerbread OTA release that is rootable via the HTCDev.com website.
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed | Mirror - ONLY rootable with unrevoked
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed | Mirror - ONLY rootable with Revolutionary
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed | Mirror - ONLY rootable with HTCDev.com
After flashing one of the above stock ROMs, you should be restored to stock conditions, including HBOOT, Radio, & NAND-locked status, and ready to return your device for servicing!
Thanks to {ParanoiA} for posting the link to the thread where the hex-editing was mentioned, and thanks to thefredelement (from that thread) for posting a working method!
Any questions, please post here.

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU (SOMEHOW) BRICK YOUR DEVICE. FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Also note that I have 0003 hardware, so there are no guarantees that this will work for you! That being out of the way, let me continue . . .
I used AndroidFlasher to flash this HBoot, as it was extremely easy (just renamed to HBOOT.img). Flashing through Fastboot (directly on the device) might also work, I guess, if you rename the file to PC36IMG, but I didn't try it that way.
I was able to do this successfully on Windows XP 32-bit (I always have issues getting anything to work on my Windows 7 machine), so I'm not sure how (or if) it'll work on Vista or 7 (or on 64-bit versions).
Note that if you're doing this with your device connected to your computer, USB Debugging MUST BE TURNED ON!!
If you want to return to stock, I first recommend flashing a stock ROM. I recommend the most recent Gingerbread update, which can be found in this post (RUU can be found here).
After successfully un-rooting your device by flashing the unrooted ROM from above, now we must re-lock NAND (set S-ON). Basically, you just flash the hboot.img from the attached zip file, and it will set your device HBOOT version to 6.17, and re-lock your NAND (S-ON). Then, you can re-flash the ROM from the above step, and it *should* overwrite the hex-edited HBOOT with the "official" version, and restore your device to stock.
Again, this worked for me, but if it doesn't work for you, don't go blaming me, and calling my method a sham.
Thanks to {ParanoiA} for posting the link to the thread where the hex-editing was mentioned, and thanks to thefredelement (from that thread) for posting a working method!

The phone still works fine.

1st: Wrong topic, you should post it in Q&A.
2nd: Have you flashed any custom ROM??? If so, thats why you cannot S-OFF it, try any near-to-stock, froyo rooted rom and then try again, this will do the trick
Cheers

Oops, wrong subforum, didn't realise.
Yes I'm running a custom ROM I'll try a Froyo-based ROM and see if that helps.
It's a shame that Revolutionary doesn't support this version of HBOOT, is there any way of 'tricking' Revolutionary to S-OFF the 0.75 HBOOT?

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it
you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?
EDIT: Just noticed lol
Wait I'm downloading a Telstra RUU and I'll give you a new PB99IMG
try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.
Thanks I'll give it a try.
I have four microSD cards at home and I've tried gold carding all of them... I don't know how successful I was cos I couldn't do what I wanted on the Desire HD

try the goldcard tutorial I posted.
Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.
Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.
Thanks for your help!

I sent you a link on my other post, but I think the site is down at the moment.. I can upload a mirror for you though because I downloaded it yesterday

Thanks - this looks like it worked now HBOOT 0.93.0001, running revolutionary now.
Is there any benefit in upgrading HBOOT at all? What does 1.02.0001 offer?
Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.
SwiftKeyed from dGB using Transparent XDA App
I guys,
Does anyone can help me to downgrade from HBOOT 1.02.0001?
Thank you

Why do you think you need to downgrade your hboot? What benefits do you expect to gain from doing so?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
as rootsu said, theres no benefits
but if you really want to then head over to the alpharev site and download the hboot downgrader, flash that either by fastboot or the pb99img.zip method, then run a froyo ruu
I already tried using the hboot downgrader but it didn't work.
I also tried unrevoked...
Thank you all for your help
Sorry not to have post at the right place...

what bugs have you found?
you cant do that, but you can go to http://revolutionary.io and flash a custom hboot, then you can decide if you want to:
1) Flash the downgrader.img and run a Froyo RUU to remain stock OR
2) Flash custom recovery (and root or flash custom ROM)
What is the ultimate goal? You want to be rooted and with custom ROM?

Is there a way to S-on again ? or change HBOOT?
I try to downgrade but I still have the S-OFF hboot 6.093.1002.
Thank you
only way to s-on is to flash downgrader.img then run RUU. S-off is good though.

I tried several times but it did not work...
The procedure succeed when the downgrde is down I can read "[2] boot loader = bypassed"... others are OK
I tried also other think... flashing with different RUU Roms, works every time except the boot that didn't change...
Did you succeed overwriting the hboot after s-off on time?
I think I will leave it so
Thank you for the time you gave me

I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Windows Installation
0. Install HTC Sync (driver required).
1. Extract the downloaded zip file fully (do not just click on the zip file).
2. Enable USB debugging on your phone. Ensure 'ask me' is set under 'Connect to PC' setting with 'charge only'. Plug in your phone.
3. Double-click on the win-down file.
4. Follow instructions and wait.
I also used this one, don't know if it is the same
http://alpharev.nl/PB99IMG_downgrade.zip
Same problem
If I didn't use the right method, please let me know and explain me if possible.
Thank you.
I know that I am a novice but I want to learn.

Hey, take a look at this two site - Revolutionary tool (the evolution of the unrevoked tool)
revolutionary.io/
unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
I was able to re-root my desire with Android 2.3.3 & Hboot 1.02.001
I left trying to downgrade hboot and I install last leedroid HD, it seems to work (little bit slow). Strange thing, I can not flash the last radio...
Thank you all for your help.
