I work in a place where there is no wireless connection for my Epic and very bad data reception - however, there have been times when I need to get online with my EPIC and can't get a signal strong enough to support it -
is there something I can do to share my laptops connection thru my office's network? I wasn't sure if I could wirelessly or with wire tether my epic to my computer and take advantage of the internet connection I get thru my ethernet connection. I know I can tether my epic to connect my lap top to the internet but I didn't know if I could go the other way or not?
Any thoughts or is this a hopeless cause?
Dunno if this works for the Epic but http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793102 might be helpful

Hi all,
Firstly, I'm new to winmob devices but as a developer I wanted to get my hands on one and start building some apps. I bought an unlocked TP2 and so far I'm really impressed and happy with it.
Now, I've searched the forums and can't find anything that completely addresses a question I have about Data Connection. It's a bit n00b but as I said I'm new to this I've never had a phone that could connect to the internet before.
I have a data plan with my provider, but when I'm at home I have the phone on the wifi. Sometimes I have it on the laptop at work or home (via USB cable).
What I don't quite understand yet is what is the priority for data connection? e.g. if connected via USB it will try to use the internet connection of the pc? if connected via wifi it will use that as preference? When the phone isn't connected to either, obviously it will start eating data from my plan, but I'm not clear on how the phone uses the internet etc. when on wifi or via the USB cable. I assume there's some kind of "preference" order or setting.
Can someone please enlighten me?
Thankyou for your time!
I've not seen any setting, but I believe it is:
USB ActiveSync (First priority)
Wifi
3G data connection
GPRS data connection (Last)
This is my experience anyway - certainly Wifi should be higher priority than any cellular/mobile connection. And I think I noticed that my web browsing was going via USB cable instead of Wifi when that was plugged in.
I agree with the above post, however I have noticed that If I run an app (lets say the YouTube app) with no active wireless or activesync connection it will use 3G or GPRS depending on available service, however If I then turn on Wireless I have to restart the app, it doesn't seen to automaticaly switch over to the new wireless connection which is a shame.

Hey guys...kind of in a bind. I need to enable my TP2 as a Wifi hub quickly. I am sure that this has been discussed several times but am unable to find my answer in the time that I have. I have tried using the dongle approach but it seems as though the connection wont 'take'...which may be because of a poor/old USB connection on the laptop itself. Either way I know that the laptop has a quality wireless card and would like to make it connect through my phone via a wireless connection. Anyone have a cab or otherwise that can make this work? Thank you in advance for any help.
It is as simple as this

That doesnt really help. It is exactly the listing group that I had found before. Is there a cab file out there that I can install in order to make this happen?
WiFiRouter is the best way to go:

I use it all the time to tether via USB on my laptop. However, I've also used it as a mobile WiFi hotspot. My wife and I can both be on our laptops at the same time.
I've only used it a limited number of times in WiFi mode, but it has worked well when I did. The only issues I had was that the range did not need excessive. If I was more than 20 feet from my phone sign loss started happening. Of course, I live right under a cell phone tower so it may have been due to just lots of interference. Also, you'll burn through your battery pretty quick doing this as well.
My wife has the Sprint version of the HTC Snap with the stock Windows Standard 6.1 ROM. I'm trying to setup Internet Connection Sharing so that she can tether to her laptop using a USB cable.
I don't think this phone has WiFi, so I cannot use a WiFi Router.
When I go into ICS, select Connect, and plug in the cable to the laptop, it seems to connect to the laptop, but displays Waiting for Network on the phone. The laptop cannot conenct to the Internet. Did Sprint do something to disable ICS? The phone has a good signal and has no issues connecting to the Internet by itself.
Has anyone gotten this to work on the Sprint network?
Okay so I've tried 4 different types of tethering on my phone.
Wireless Tethering (Works great)
USB Tethering (Works great except no 4G)
PDANET (Works but NO 4G / Random Disconnects)
Easy Tether (Works the best , WITH 4G, but random disconnects)
So wireless tethering is fine and that isn't my problem.
PDANET along with Easy Tether for some reason both keep dropping connection randomly. It could be 20 minutes, it could be 1 minute, it could be 10 minutes, but the dang connection keeps getting dropped for some reason. I've tried looking and settings left and right but I don't know what it is and I don't know how to fix it.
USB Tethering with Froyo works great. I don't get any dropped connections except the dang 4G won't work! I get 2 bars in my apartment, but as soon as I run USB Tethering, 4G drops, 3G runs, and 4G scans, finds sprint, and drops.
I don't have 4G issues with my phone at all, only tethering with PDANET and USB Tethering.
If I can get some help from you guys, it would be either of these >>
Easy Tether : Figure out how to stop the random disconnections
USB Tethering : Figure out how to make 4G stay and let me connect with 4G
I have tried looking online for 4 hours. Every page on google has been turned purple because I visited them all. I need some help
easy tether cannot be fixed, usb tether cannot have 4g
that sux with over 10000 chars
Hey there guys! I have a rooted Galaxy Nexus running the latest OS. I have cancelled my home internet forever ago as the speeds I get from Verizon's 4G are plenty for what I use the internet for. I would plug my phone into my computer tower (no WiFi card) and bam, I would have internet.
However, I recently acquired a roommate who has a laptop and is connecting to my phone via WiFi. This works extremely well, as does everything else that connects to my phone via WiFi.
Here is where my conundrum is coming into play. The WiFi and USB network are different. We were trying to play Minecraft on LAN mode and realized that we weren't on the same network.
I began my googling and came across bridges, and using a cracked firmware for my router (ddwrt) to become a wireless repeater of sorts.
This is all a bit above my head however. I plug my router into my Ethernet port, and the cat5 on the router is plugged in where the modem cat5 should be. Internet still doesn't work from the router. My Router is a WNR2000v3
Tried Hamachi, that didn't work. Help fellow Android users!
