MTP - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i noticed that when i mount my Droid x using mtp only certain folders show up. it lets me transfer any file or folder i want but my media folder and a couple other folders is all that shows up.
my question is when i get the nexus and mount it, will only certain folders show up or will all the folders show, such as the data folder or another folder an app might create? I'm hoping all folders.

In MTP it's up to the manufacturer of the device to decide what parts of the filesystem to show. The Galaxy Nexus shows the equivilent of the sdcard. It does not show /data since that's protected storage that you are not supposed to be able to read. Basically it's just like any other Android phone, just that it uses MTP instead.

[Q]Hide\move system folders on SDcard

Hi all. I see much system folders on SDcard. Such as a folders with "." in name and folders from some APPs. So there is question, can we some how hide\move them?
How i see this situation. Can we make folder on SDcard and mount it like a SD in Android? So we will get 1 folder with all system folders, and all our folders.
I bad in android\linux but that what i think. Any suggestions?
The point of the "." is to hide them, your file manager should be able to to chose between showing hidden files or not. For astro it never worked for me, but in root explorer the function works. So first go in to the settings of your file manager and see if there is a option to show/hide hidden files, if the options does not exist or does not work try a different file manager.

Eh i mean in Windows. But in android file managers too.
So Hidding is very hard cause if u come to friend u must make that option on his system. So i hope we can MOVE this folders some where.
you cant move the folders because the apps would all be looking in the wrong place. There *should* be folder on sdcard where everything like this goes, would make your sdcard much more organized, but thats just too easy
Cant you go into folder properties in windows and select hidden??

What about at boot mount SD-Card in /mnt/sdcard_data, and create folder sys (where we copy all data) and mount it like /mnt/sdcard
And all path will be right.
This mounts must be on boot.

[Q] All files not showing on PC

I have tried with file manager and found the files i was looking for in android/data/something but when i connect my GN to my PC (win7 32bit) i only get a few folders and files,
I have tested with both USB modes and I only get the basic folders such as
Alarms, Android, DCIM, Downloads, Movies, Music, Notifications, Pictures, Podcasts, Ringtones.
and the file manager reports more folders present :/
also the files i'm trying to access are within the android folder (which is visible on PC) but in filemanager there are 10-20 folders found in android/data that are missing on PC. PC only shows 3 folders in android/data
It also appears to be possible for other users to access the exact same file at the exact same filepath, why can't I?
is there a feature on GN or ICS that makes it impossible to access some files from the PC or is this a bug/flaw?
in case you guys need to know what files i'm trying to access, it's the game files to GTAIII
I kind of have a similar problem.
When i connect my phone to a windows 7 computer it mounts okey and shows me the files. If I create a folder on the phone from windows explorer, unmounts the device, I can not see this folder on the phone via a file manager unless i reboot my phone. This also applies the other way around. If I create a folder on the phone from a file manager, then mount the phone to the computer, I can not see the folder until I reboot my phone.
Is there a fix for this? Is it a bug? How can i resolve this? It's very frustrating.
MTP/PTP doesn't offer all the features the full USB transfer mode has. Search will help you find the pros and cons of this.
Workaround: Use an app like WiFi File Explorer or Airdroid.

[Q] Why do folders on /SDCARD appear empty through computer?

This is driving me crazy. I want to copy the TitaniumBackup folder from my GNEX to my Win7 PC.
Looking at the folder through Root Explorer on the GNEX all appears normal. When I look at the folder through my computer the folder is showing but the contents are backups that are almost a month older than are on the GNEX. If I delete everything in that folder FROM THE PC it still exists on the GNEX.
It is like it is looking at a different folder entirely however looking and searching through ROOT EXPLORER there are no other TITANIUM BACKUP folders.
This happens with a lot of apps. Example: I created a ZIP file using ROOT EXPLORER. The zip, viewing through ROOT EXPLORER is located in the /SDCARD/SPEEDSOFTWARE/ZIP folder however when I look at the SPEEDSOFTWARE folder via my PC the folder is empty.
I have tried both MTP and PHOTO mode. This happens with a lot of folders when trying to view them from my PC connection. Some stuff is there and a lot is not.
Hmmm, there is a /MNT/SDCARD and a /SDCARD folder (I don't know much about Linux) and the files I am NOT seeing on my PC are in /MNT/SDCARD and the files I am seeing are in /SDCARD. Why are there 2 different "SDCARD" folders? I changed the TitaniumBackup to save to /SDCARD instead of /MNT/SDCARD but the backups are still not viewable (or copyable) from my computer. I just don't get it.
So the question is, how do you "backup" the contents of the "SDCARD" directory if you can't see the files when plugged into the PC?
Well, after comparing all the "visible" files on my computer when I access the GNEX via MTP vs what I see using ROOT EXPLORER the ONLY 2 folders NOT visible from my PC are TITANIUMBACKUP and SPEEDSOFTWARE (thus is the ROOTEXPLORER app data). Why would they be hidden?
It's due to how the Android MTP service works. It hasn't scanned your internal storage for the new files/directory to present to your PC yet.
Download and run an app called SDrecan from the Market. This will force the media services on your phone to rescan the device.

this app is force closing. i cant even run it . do you have any idea? just today was working fine , i installed a custom rom and now when i try to put another roms on my sd card , i get this message that it's empty
trickster mod also has a media rescan option in bottom of tools section if this is helpful to you, I have to use it after using the "a better camera app" in order for pics to show in gallery without reboot

I don't have an /mnt/sdcard or /sdcard folder help :(

Hi all,
I bought my GN off a guy back in March of this year. He told me it was rooted and all that, and I just recently found out it's running a version of the open KANG project or whatever.
Anyway, I want to use a different ROM, and my buddy gave me a bunch of instructions but I'm having a problem.
He told me to put the ROM and the gapps in the /sdcard folder, or /mnt/sdcard folder - But I don't seem to have either one of those folders.
He advised I get TitaniumBackup to backup some of my apps, which I have done, and I found the TitaniumBackup folder just sitting there in the main part of the phone, or the root I guess you'd say.
Also, when I did a backup from the Recovery screen as directed by him, it just saved the backup to a clockworkmod/backup folder, again in the root directory of the phone.
When I go into My Computer I see the "Galaxy Nexus" there. When I click on it, I get another icon which says "internal storage" then when I open that I have all these folders.
Other things like DCIM, Download, android, music, movies folders are all in this root folder.
What am I missing here? Why can't I see any /sdcard folder or /mnt/sdcard folder?
The folder you are in when you connect to your computer IS /sdcard.

Windows 10 file explorer show empty media folders

Hi. I have...
- Nexus 5x H790 version 6.0.1 MMB29P full stock.
- Latest USB drivers from (http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html).
- Nexus Toolkit v2.1.0 sfx" say i have all MTP and ADB drivers installed.
- Pc with Windows 10 x64 (latest build 1511 compilation 10586.36).
When i plugged the phone, and change "charge only" to "file transfer (mtp)", windows native file explorer show all folders and subfolders, but empty, without files inside.
For example, I cannot see the photos/videos from the camera folder to copy to my pc.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
are you able to copy files to the phone? have you set explorer to show hidden files? is this really the case for all folders and files, or are there exceptions? did you set these folders to not show up in any app on the phone, for instance in a photo gallery or media player?
just some qustions that came to mind

In some files, copies. Others, not.
I dont change nothing in app or gallery.
Have you tried clearing data on the Media Storage app, then rebooting your device? I sometimes have problems with folders and files not showing up in Windows Explorer when connected via MTP, and this seems to fix it for me. You may need to choose the option to show system apps in order to see this app.

Same thing here, also windows 10. Can confirm that clearing data on the Media Storage app is fixing the problem ☺
