Cell standby battery drain? Juice defender problem? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

It may seem illogical but ever since i installed juice defender my battery seems to draining quick. Cell standby used to be at about 3% and now it is at about 60% sometimes more. I uninstalled it but the problem persists. I charged it up to 100% and right now, 3 hours later with casual use it went down to 50%, when becore i could use it casually for about 8+ hours before reaching to 20%. Any fix for this? Was it juice defender or my rom (calk 1.5a)

i wouldn't blame the JD. I have had JD since I got the phone and it's been helping me get 50+ hours per charge with light use.
I am all stock otherwise. I suspect the kernel.

Not having problems with Juice Defender either. My cell standby is currently at just 5%.
Here's some thoughts I found after a quick Google search. Try entering airplane mode for 10 seconds and then exit. Also consider updating your profile and PRL. Finally, consider freezing any service with the letters "DRM" in them.
Best of luck.

[SOLVED][Q] Battery issues?

Wondering if anyone else has had any battery issues? I went to sleep last night with about 85% or more battery, and 5.5 hours later my phone was dead....when i plugged it in for like 5 minutes to call my work and tell them i was going to be late...when i got to work my phone said 45% phone idle and 45% cell standby for battery use
none here - took phone off charger about midnight, this morning after alarm rang for the full 10 minutes, it still showed 100%
i've been watching it and am really impressed with battery life - is it possible you've got a program running in the background? - i had Startup Auditor to stop apps in the background but had that from before, on my Vibrant
on the vibrant, running a predominantly black wallpaper, screen brightness at 13%, putting phone in "airplane mode" when i sleep, keeping GPS off, data sync off etc, it'd be down to 17-22% at end of day before going back on charger
this G2, running live wallpaper (thunderstorm), no efficiency moves (ie GPS off, etc), screen brightness at 50%, phone still had 34% last night before going back on the charger - and the battery has not "conditioned" - i noticed on the past 2 phones batteries life got better after the first few weeks of use.
Nothing different than my nexus...and i was thinking maybe it was a game but that should have been killed automatically and i dont think it would say phone standby and cell idle if it was an app would it?
tonite you might try putting the phone in airplane mode when you go to bed, and turn off GPS
see what happens to battery drain overnite - if it diminishes then i'd look at what apps you've installed. there was an article on engadget not too long ago that some researchers had analyzed the 358 most popular apps, and found 30 were reporting data to their "mothership" that had not declared it or asked for permission to report data.
hope that helps
well another weird thing is, that when i bought the phone and brought it home, usually it comes with half battery and thats what it showed but i had to charge it quick with no apps really installed on it yet...Im charging now and will test to see what happens with battery...i just removed off alot of my apps.... to see whats up
I'm getting about 10 hours with regular usage though I wish I knew why Photobucket keeps starting everytime i kill it.
I hope you guys charged the phone fully before you used it first. That can play a big role in battery life.
I got my phone yesterday and haven't done any calibrations yet. I've been playing with it like you normally would if you buy a new smartphone. I took it off the charger around 9pm last night and at 7:32am right now I have about 60% left. So roughly 10.5 hours later and I've only lost about 40%. I'm very impressed by that. My vibrant would have been dead by now, it rarely lasts through the night if its not on the charger.

What's your time with out signal, sounds like the 50% bug to me, google the airplane mode fix, if not you might want to look into a new radio, and you should allways recal your battery after you flash

(Q) App to help me pinpoint what is draining my battery?

i know this has been asked before but has anyone found a great app to find out what is draining your battery?
when connected to wifi at night when i go to bed my phone will go from 70% to around 25% in a 6 hour span or so. i normally get 10 hours or so of use during a day but its crazy when my phone is sleeping and only connected to wifi the battery drain is insane.

Battery life on idle

Everyone's always talking about battery life around here, but all those discussions about how long everyone's phone lasts seem pointless. Sure, one guy might be getting 30 hours of battery life, and some other guy might be getting 10 hours, but that could happen with both of them using the same phone if the first guy never touches it while the second guy is a gamer.
So in the interest of having a more useful discussion about battery life, I was hoping people could share how much their phone drains an hour while not being used, along with their configuration. That's what most people actually mean when they talk about battery life, how long it lasts when they're not using it.
By idle I mean with data connected (either WiFi or cellular), accounts syncing, but screen off and sleeping.
I'll start off I'm seeing battery use of about 3-4% / hour, I'm running Juggernaut 5 with faux kernel 009m, no undervolting or overclocking beyond whatever faux kernel 009m comes with.
I get about the same with just about the same setup as you and I think its high drain to be honest, but it gets me through the day. I get anywhere from 10-16 hours on a charge with an average of 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time. It gets me through my long school days easy. I don't care for getting 20+ hours on one charge, because I actually use my phone and charge it every night.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Around 2% per hr.

On warfare ROM, getting 2% per hour with wifi on
Getting about 2% drain every 7 hours overnight with background data on at the moment
Im at 30hr usage with about 25% battery power remaining on the stock rom. Battery isnt as nearly as bad as i thought.

your post is confusing because cell standby is not the same as cell data. it also doesn't say how often the phone is syncing data... once per day?
in any case, i drop about 1% every 2 hours will cell standby (radio) on. stock rom, faux 009 kernel, nexus battery.

What do you mean cell standby is not the same as cell data. What's the difference? Basically, I just mean with some sort of data connection set up, not in airplane mode.
Regarding syncing data, data syncing is continuous as long as you're connected if you have your accounts syncing under settings. There's no way to change the amount of times per day it syncs.
1 to 2 percent drop per hour.
Refer to my sig for more details.
cell standby is when your phone can receive phone calls and texts. cell data is internet, like 4g.
most people like to have their phone useful as a phone, so cell standby is usually on. but data syncing does not have to be continuous. you can open the internet connection for 10 seconds every minute, or a minute every hour, more often during work hours, etc. that's how apps like juice defender work.
also, 2g takes less battery than 4g. so if you're syncing with the display off, you could sync on 2g and just browse the web on 4g. it takes some effort to switch, but tasker can automate this.

Okay, well those are the types of things it'd be really helpful to hear about. What sort of idle usages people are seeing with different setups, such as when they're using JuiceDefender and the like.
2-5% per hour. Stock rooted phone.

Never mind.
I get about 1/2% drain per hour on standby. Im running Darkside Digital 2.4, it comes out of the box underclocked. Thats on 4g, data syncing once a day, gps off, and alot of apps I dont use frozen or uninstalled.
I get about a 30% drop in 5 hours of no use..with data and wifi off. Now that is bad

That's really bad. Sounds like something is wakelocking your phone, you should get BetterBatteryStats and see what's holding the partial wakelocks.
I changed my kernel from faux 009m to Bullet, and set the governor to ondemand.
Cut my idle battery usage down to about 1% an hour, which is a great improvement from my previous 3% an hour.
My phone has been in Stanby since 7am (starting with 100% battery) and its now at 80% battery...

running jauggernaut 4.1, juice defender on (free version), email set to sync once every 4hrs, wifi on, data off, BT and GPS always on, loses about 1-2% per hour during sleep. sometimes it goes a little crazy and lose like 5-8%/hr, but it goes back to normal after reboot.

[Q] [INFO] Battery saving apps draining battery ?

From my personal experience and some googling i found out that a combination of juice defender and GSam battery monitor will drain your battery dramatically after some days/weeks (I have experienced it)
I was getting 5 hours+ on heavy usage but today these two apps sucked my battery off and my battery went from 70 to 40 in an hour or two.
After some internet surfing i found out this.
Please confirm

I am also getting high usage from the kernel on the stock rom. Sometimes, the battery goes down even faster than normal, but a reboot seems to bring it back to the usual consumption level.
I have also noticed my phone is awake quite a lot while on wifi, but I'm not sure if disabling it would improve anything.

standby time in mobile data

Hi guys,
I'm having trouble getting through the day with this phone. I have a new Anker 2200mAh battery that I've cycled about 3 times now. I am running BeanStalk 4.4.4, and I have few tweaks like, Memory Manager (cause it keeps freazing, running out of ram), Entropy Fix app (at ~512, which doesn't seem to fix lag, but not sure), greenify and Amplify, related to battery.
But I'm still draining about 6%/hour on mobile data. This is not normal right? It's really hard to get through the day with this kind of battery life.
So what do you guys do to get about 1% or 2% drain per 1 hour in standby on mobile data? I'm using Xposed, and I greenified apps that greenify says wakelock a lot.
I would really appreciate your help!
Thanks.
BTW, I'm pretty sure it is not normal because in Amazon website, this anker battery has full of satisfied reviews saying it lasts a full day/ 2 days with this battery, but for me, even with this larger battery, it drains very quickly in standby.
In addition, when screen is on, I get about 1%/2.5 minutes in mobile data at 50% brightness. I think this is fine. Am I right? For 100% drain, this leads to 250minutes, which is slightly over 4 hours screen on time. This is on mobile data, so I think it's pretty good, but I'm not 100% sure.
But because standby drains quite a lot, I'm not even able to get over 2 hours screen on time.
I don't have wifi at work btw.
I hope someone helps me soon. Thanks!
