I've slowly come to realise that my GNex is making a quiet popping sound from the rear speaker. Also happens across by Bluetooth headphones.
It happens when I tap the screen a second after I tap it, and then if I don't do anything else, 5 seconds after that. It can be anywhere on the screen, even the android buttons.
If I pinch to zoom, it doesn't do it.
Its very quiet, but quite annoying.
Anyone else got it/noticed it?

I also get this even after turning off that option

You can turn it off in the settings. If you still encounter it, even after doing this, there is something wrong. Go through the usual troubleshooting steps before taking the phone back to the retailer.
Strangely, it seems to happen only in certain apps, twitter for example, but browser seems fine.

That popping in Twitter is a feature of Twitter whereby you pull down the twitter stream and it auto-refreshes, giving you a popping sound once it has completed.
It also does this popping sound upon entering the application, because it auto refreshes when you start it up.

Perfect. I didn't believe this could be it as it made the popping sound, even with the volume off, but turn the volume up and yup, there's the correct tap sound, turn it all the way down (off) and it makes a faint pop sounds. Switch Touch sounds off and no pop, any time.
NEW ISSUE! The pop sounds happens as soon as you stop doing something which makes a sound. With Touch sounds off, turn your volume up to full until it makes the full volume set "chirp", then 3 seconds later, around the time the volume slider fades away, you'll here the pop is there.
Or at least it is on mine. Almost as if the sound card powers off a few seconds after it was was used and discharges into the speaker in doing so to cause a pop.

Known issue, complain to google. Maybe if we get enough complaints, they will do something about it.

Keep screen on when connected to power & playing music, and an easy way to skip song?
When in the car listening to music (stock app, purple icon with white musical note in circle), and connected to power, I'd like to have the screen stay on and not time out. I want to do this for this particular app, and nothing else (at this time).
I went into the settings but cannot find anything that will allow this in conjuction with the music app. Am I missing something?
On a similar note...does the screen stay on when using the Maps app as a navigation device
I guess I can use "Screen On", by Konstantinos Polychronis, but figured maybe there was something built-in that I missed.
I'd also like to find something similar to what Apple has where when playing music all I had to do was shake the phone and it would skip to the next song.
The "Screen On" would be used for when mounted to a windshield mount, and the "shake" would be for when the phone sits on the console next to my seat.
idk about the shake thing, but i know under the development settings u can turn on stay awake when plugged in. if u leave it hooked to ur car charger then it will stay on always unless u turn the screen off. screen still dims tho, just not off. as for the gps yeah if i remember right the screen stays on at all times but still dims as long as its the app on screen, doesnt do it if its just running in the background i believe. i dont use the gps without the charger much cuz i only use it on long drives and dont want a dead phone from gps, screen, and bluetooth all running (use my phone for my music in my car)

Don't think that will work for me. I'd like to have the screen stay on, and bright, while listening to music while plugged into power.
If the gps app is the front app then it lights up when its coming up on a turn or any kind of new directions so u don't miss it. I havent seen any apps but I know u can just turn off the screen timeout and ur just have to remember to set it back to whatever ur normal timeout is
Have you tried any automation apps like Tasker or Llama? Llama is free and can do a lot while Tasker is a bit more pricy (you can get a trial version of it if you want to try it for free), but it has a crazy amount of things you can do, including making widgets and standalone apps. I used Llama for quite some time, but then decided to get Tasker and haven't looked back. Both are great apps and take a little time getting used to (Tasker specifically is a bit more cumbersome if you are new to it).
I'm not sure about Llama, but I know Tasker can detect shake and gesture events. You could use that to trigger your skip track action. I would be happy to help if you aren't sure how to do something, but there's plenty of documentation on both these (and I'm sure other apps could do this as well).
PowerAMP has this exact feature, and is far superior to any stock music app. Well worth the price.

Just downloader the PowerAMP trial. Seems to be very complete and highly rated.:good:
I may try Llama or Tasker to get the shake function. Still trying to decide whether to windshield mount or just lay it on the console. If I go windshield, shake feature will not be needed.
Thanks!
I would go with a mount that keeps it in your LoS. Picking up the phone and manipulating it while driving is dangerous.
I have a custom-built mount bolted to my dashboard just to the right of my steering wheel. It puts the phone almost, but not quite in my peripheral vision, and my right hand only has to move about 4 inches from the wheel to the screen to change tracks or answer calls hands-free.

Pictures????
I ended up using jetAudio Basic, as Poweramp would not keep the screen on. Didn't make a difference how I had it set. The app was on but the screen was dimmed. Jetaudio kept the screen on bright, and also allows shake-to-shuffle to change tracks, which I also wanted.
That's odd about PowerAMP letting the screen dim. Mine never does, not on any phone I've used it on, see sig.
The mount, it's holding my old 4G Slide in this pic, this was back when I first put it in.

hey guys,
i noticed many times my M8 volume when i receive a call or notification drops to below 50%. i disabled the pocket mode setting and the "quiet ring on pickup" setting. i want it loud at all times but randomly it lowers the volume to same low level. i have passcode on my M8 so i know the down volume isnt toggled whole in my pocket.
any one else have this issue?
Yes, it's probably because you have the it set to do that when the phone is moved.

I'm having the same issue even with those settings disabled

I second that, at first I thought I was tripping but the phone seems to do so, I get the issue on the ring and notifications. I find myself frequently pushing the volume up to make sure it isn't turned down.
I have been having this issue, but at first I thought I was changing the volume by accident. I finally realized it was happening way too much to be by accident. It seems to change after receiving and answering calls. After I hang up, I check the volume and it is turned down. I swapped my phone at the T-Mobile store, and the replacement has the same exact issue. I have tried troubleshooting and replicating the issue, but so far I can't pinpoint an exact cause. I may have to return the M8, even though it has been my favorite phone thus far. I have been missing calls and texts due to the volume change bug. Otherwise the phone has been perfect.
I have the same issue even with those settings disabled.
Has anyone tried to contract HTC ? And report the issue?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have the AT&T model, and I have the same issues. I have (I think) narrowed it down to it being a problem with pocket mode, regardless if it's enabled or not. When the phone rings in my pocket, it is always too quiet. If it's laying flat on a table, it's always max volume. The only thing that contradicts this is when the default ringer rings (meaning an unknown number calls that I don't have a specific ringtone chosen for in contacts), it will always ring full volume (pocket or not). This REALLY pisses me off. I bought this phone for the loud speakers...
Edit: I have never experienced the volume icon dropping by itself. Everytime I click the volume rocker up, it's always says it's at max.
Verizon M8 here - and as such I have to be different. For me it's my Notification volume that maxes out when I answer a call. I turned the requisite settings off but as others have noticed, that had no effect. Simply receiving doesn't do it - it's only when I answer it hits.
Rooted, S-off & very puzzled.

Ringer issues
I installed a volume control app cost .99 and so far fixed the issue
Just wanted to add my 3 day old M8 does this also, even with quite ring on pick up, and pocket mode unchecked, flip to mute check to mute once.
The new software update fixed the issue at least for me

Hi, do you find some issue for that problem? Because I bought M8 6 days ago and I have same problem with that.
We need resolve this because I am going be crazy for this phone.
same
i have the M7 and i got that problem too ...i observed that it;s lower the ringtone volume only when i'm using the phone for something(internet, game,fb) and i get a call....when idle and the screen is locked, it doesn't happent....i get this problem with SamsungS3 too, so i guess its an android issue , or an issue of the branding of the carrier ...for me it came out only after updating to sense6.even if i am walking, my phone ring once and then silcence , or autoanswer....unchecked all ,checked again, try everything, nothing worked since now...
Same problem here..I thought that is only me with this problem but it seems not..If anyoane have a fix for this problem, please post here because is very anoying.I tried all settings and put a coustom rom but the same....
Hi,
Turn OFF the Auto-pick function(not sure this is like that in english), this problem will dissapear.
Good luck,
Eugene
M7 Dual Sim
a;so same issue with me
Contacted HTC now it's fix
I contacted HTC about the ringtone going down after every call. They asked me if it was after the software update . It was after that. This is what he had me do:
hold in the Volume Down key and the power key at the same time for a few seconds. Continue holding the Volume Down until you get to an "HBOOT" screen with 3 android guys at the bottom. Once in there, use the volume keys to go down to "Recovery" option, then press the power button once to select it.
You'll be taken to a screen with a picture of a phone with a "!" icon and a red triangle. Once there please hold the Volume Up key and press the Power key once for just a second, then let go, you will see another menu, go down (using the Volume Keys again) to "Wipe Cache Partition" option and press once the power key to select it. Once it's complete, choose the option to "Reboot System Now" and the phone will start back up. The Cache Wipe is complete.
It worked for me.
Hope it helps
Hi
My phone is setup with pattern unlock, with a 3 min relock time. However, once unlocked, if I turn the phone off and back on (standby like when you put it in your pocket), it always come up with a swipe screen and I have to swipe up. Never had to do this before with other phones, Note 4, S6 Edge Plus etc.. is this an AT&T 'feature'??
Thanks
Andy

It appears that the note 5 will always fall back to a "swipe" unlock when other lock methods are excluded (and "none" isn't the selected option.) The same thing happens with a fingerprint unlock if within the timeout or if the phone has a BT connection to a "trusted device."
I'm not sure if this is a samsung decision or something with lollipop. I can understand the reasoning (which probably is that unless you specified NO unlock mechanism, the lock screen should always show to prevent unintended taps.)

I know this is a dumb question, but are you trying to unlock in less than 3 minutes? Pattern unlock will only show up after 3 minutes since that's how you have it set up.
Yeah but that's not the problem. If I unlock before the 3 mins it comes up with a swipe to unlock screen. So if I close it, and open it a few seconds later, swipe to unlock screen. Looks like this:

The infamous "lock screen bug" is plaguing my N920A note5 (like my Note3 and Note4) whenever I have fingerprint lock enabled.
When I tap the HOME button to unlock the phone, the screen instantly switches off (as though I pressed the power button to lock it).
This cycle keeps happening until I leave the phone as is for about 10 seconds then try again.

I've had this happen for a while now, I've had the phone pretty much a year, and I've noticed some issues that I've found on other LG phones dating back to the EnV Touch.
First problem, more frequent, and more annoying:
Pretty much every other time I push the back button to shut the screen off, it plays the little tone, and the screen fades, and then pops back awake. Sometimes, I need to push the button 2-3 times for the screen to turn off and stay off. I also have knock-on disabled (Activity Launcher app allowed me to find that menu in settings, which for some reason Verizon decided to hide from the main settings menu). The reason I did this was to, in theory, save battery from not having the digitizer always on and actively scanning for taps.
Second problem, more rare, but has happened from the start:
Sometimes when waking the screen up, the screen will show up as if it was melted, just a bunch of various colored vertical lines. Swiping does nothing, so it's not like I can unlock the phone blindly. I have to push the sleep button to turn the screen off, and push it again to wake up and get my normal lock screen. I've had this happen even on the last LG phone I owned before this one: the EnV Touch. See pic for reference, ironically I had to use an iphone to take a picture of the melted screen on this phone, so pardon the crappy quality image.

If the pic doesn't show (not showing currently in preview, I have it on my google drive, since IDK how to manually upload a pic to post it), let me know and I can try to put it somewhere else on the net to host it. Since my account is new, I cannot post the direct URL to the pic on google drive, but if anyone PM's me I can send it.
I'm hoping either of these are known issues, at least if it's not happening to just me, then maybe it'll get fixed in an update, although I have my doubts.
In case anyone asks, this is running STOCK VS98625A firmware, never rooted.
Thanks in advance, I think my 1 year warranty expires in 5 days, I'm curious if I should just bring this up to VZ.
Ive had that first problem (hardware lock button putting the phone into sleep & back on in an instant) ever since I can remember - I have knockon enabled because i find it worth the bit of drain.
I use this great app Screen Off & Lock to have a soft key in a convenient place on the home screen and helps me lock the phone without having the rely on the weird button behaviour. Device is VS986 & this has been the issue on 13A, 24C as well as 25A. Living with it!
Thanks, I'll look into that as an option, I just really wish LG would get their things in order. They've never seem to have a stable rom, even on old flip phones.
Another issue I'm noticing is that when I lock my screen, and it wakes itself up and stays lit up for ~30 seconds, the lighting will flicker dimly every 10 seconds or so, like it's trying to put itself to sleep and failing. I should just make a video of all these issues, lol.
I have the 2nd problem mentioned. I get vertical colored lines sometimes. For me it only happens when I plug or unplug the charger when the screen is off. The plugging/unplugging wakes the screen in this funky mode. I turn it off, turn it on, then all is fine. Happens maybe once per 20 times.
Wow, I have the same issue! The only thing is, it only happens when I unplug it. I wish I knew how to fix it though, because sometimes it can be annoying
Hi,
Yesterday I was driving around all day with Phone connected via Bluetooth and using voice only Navigation in Google Maps.
In the evening I reached 20% battery and the phone automatically activated Battery Saver Mode.
Suddenly while driving I heard the "GPS Signal Lost" Notification.
Picked up my phone. Took a look at gMaps and saw it repositioning. Navigation continued.
Put it back down in the middle Console, 3 Minutes later... GPS Signal Lost.
Didn't realised at that time why this happened but today I tried again, with Full battery. Drive around. No Problem.
Activate Battery Save Mode... 2min Later GPS Signal Lost.
This does not occur when you hold your phone Straight Into the sky, but when enclosed in the middle Console of the car GPS Signal is not strong enough.
It does work fine without battery Save Mode though.
So my Claim is:
Battery Save Mode DOES also reduce GPS Signal strength.
If anyone could confirm this I'd be grateful
Yes, it reduces power usage all together and probably drops you down to "battery saving mode" under the location settings, which is location by wi-fi, bluetooth, or mobile networks.
http://www.htc.com/mea-en/support/htc-10/howto/722079.html
Nope, still on high Precision and GPS connects.

I see your battery level is at 33. Is Power Saver Mode even activated?
"Energieeinsparung ist aktiv

It's German but you have the same in English if you activate Battery Save Mode.
Constant GPS signal loss when "Power Saving" mode is enabled
I do have similar issue. I do like the "Power saving" mode since I do see considerable difference in power usage. However, when I have this setting on and use a google map to navigate around, I keep losing GPS signal. This is sort of dangerous since, you'll be missing a turn. I did confirm this by disabling the power saving mode and went for a 5 hour drive.
I do wish the pull down menu has a "Power Saving" enable/disable button instead of the current "Extreme Saver" disable/enable icon.
