[Q] Ice Cream Sandwich 0% Battery Fix ? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies if i have missed the thread that answers this question.
But if anybody could inform me if when the ICS is released will it have a fix for the infamous 0% battery issue and do we have a release date?
I'm trying to decide whether to wait for a solution or bite the bullet and send away to SE to get hardware changed.
Thanks
Grant

Time will tell.
How should we know it, if the update isn't released yet?
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk

I was just wondering if anybody knows a release date for the update, as i read somewhere it might have a fix included.
If you don't ask il never know!

No one know date.

Ics fast approaching?

So its getting closer to june, we were told when ics was due in feb/march that it was being delayed till may/june.
My question is does anyone really think we will get an official ics at all?
I think there's no reason not to, we got the beta, and our Xperia Play's are pretty decent to run ICS has the Arc S.
Just a matter of time I believe
Don't say fast approaching! They'll delay it even further! You know they watch these forums, right!?
Slowly approaching...
Not to mention, the date they gave is when they start rolling it out, it could take 4 - 6 weeks from the first release til your specific one. August/September ; how does that sound?

Not to mention the fact that while all of you lucky R800i users will probably get an official ICS update, we R800x users probably don't have a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting it.

For R800i I take a regular look at this site. We'll be close to ICS when some new builds will show up here. Right now, the newest build for R800i is German's .69. So any future builds should be ICS builds I think.

I'm on Stock 2.3.3 now and when IXS comes around for my R800i, will I have to unroot first?
(I'll be updating via PCC).

Have you noticed that normal Arc and the other 2011 handsets that were due out same time as Play have been up there on there lists for a while ready to go. No sign of the Plays FW. With so many issues with games on there Beta Rom, Would it be a good idea from Sony to release FW which is very buggy and takes half of the plays features away. Cant see game Dev's rushing out to Fix there old titles just for Sony's mistake.
is there any reason why sony delay xperia play ICS? forget the beta version, we just need the final one

Can't someone just compile a ROM for us?
Just sit back and enjoy the ride the update will xome eventually if your obsessed with updates get a ps3 it updates everytime you turn it on

That only updates often to try to stop cfw and true blu users.
I seem to remember Sony saying that people would be better staying on Gingerbread.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony didn't update.
Though, in all fairness, some of the ICS ROMs on here are better looking than the standard Sony stuff

Update
I am sure, that Sony will give us the ICS update.
The situation about updates was/is bad for Sony, so they want to change something a give updates earlier.
BUT, as they said, gingerbread is running good and ICS is not optimalized yet. I think, that update will came later than they said, but it WILL come.
Here is also question about gaming HW. So this is/will be big problem i think. On ICS it has different functionality than GB.
No one maked rom, that will support gaming HW in all ways like stock rom. And THIS will be problem about new ICS.

Will JB be 100% working for our phone when the tools are released?

At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

They said to be determined by the end of August which is a big difference. And honestly at this point I don't really care if we get official ICS anymore I'm pretty content with the work that our devs have done so far without it, if official ICS is so important to some of these users they might as well have just stayed stock and waited for an OTA. I don't mean to take this out on you personally, but these threads about JB and "perfect and bugless" ICS roms have gotten ridiculously out of hand. Not to mention the amount of user that lack to read the threads let alone the OP when it comes to figuring out what bugs exist. Not directed at you at all, but more towards the users that have lately been demanding and expecting stuff from devs and not really contributing back to the community. Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

HTC has to release kernel source regardless because of the Chinese OTA they released. It might be as late as October, but they have to release it regardless or else they'd be in violation of some law that has an acronym I can't remember.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).

[Q][CDMA] Is there a fix for 2.3.4 yet? What is everyone else doing instead?

Because I didn't see a post in the first couple pages (or at all, maybe no one is asking); which in my mind isn't enough. I know the answer is probably a no, but has there been a fix yet for the issues with Verizon's 2.3.4 update? If not, what are all my fellow CDMA users doing instead of using 2.3.4? I really would like to update so I can finally use the PSStore, but I'm not sacrificing my Gmail notifications.
I never updated from the OTA. I waited to see how It went. I am on stock 2.3.3 heavily modded. And I don't see VZ making another OTA for our phone to fix 2.3.4 seeing as how our phone is E.O.L (end of life) on my Verizon. Plus.. I other ota'ing to 2.3.3 I would never take another ota from VZ seeing as how slow and crap filled it is

Oh, well in that case I guess I better go with a 2.3.4 rom or just make a thread for suggestions on which rom to go with if I want to use the PSStore...or just wait for JellyBean, as I hear JB>GB>ICS is the basic idea for firmware on the Play. If you (or anyone) has suggestions for which ROM to go with, please do share. I'll hold off on adding another thread for several hours.
I have tried a bunch of different roms and I always come back to my modified stock 2.3.3. Not saying there are not good roms out there... just saying for me stock felt the best after it removed all the crapware and made it the ay I wanted it.

Motorola defy xt535 coming to republic wireless

Hello.
I am looking for some help in the coming months with this phone. The phone when released will have gingerbread. I am looking to get either ICS or jellybean on the phone.
Problem is republic wireless uses hybrid calling technology which means it switches over to WiFi when available. RW probably uses files baked into their custom ROM, which is basically cm with clockwork mod, and I need to extract them in hopes of merging them with an ICS or jellybean ROM for this.
Anyone up for this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
ICS will allow you to use VOIP calls automatically whenever you are connected to the wifi. You just need to fill in the user-pass and sip server address (check the dialer settings). There is no need to install anything.
Republic wireless has an app that seems to handle the WiFi cell handoff and and their own kernel and such. I won't know the exact changes until I get a system dump of the phone.

Hey Biggiephat! Glad you're interested in this too! I posted a similar (if not TLDR) post on the CM forums earlier today. Many of the apks and background apps from CM7 had to be modded in order for the RW version to work. The same will be true for us. What makes this more challenging, however, is that ICS/JB is an entirely 'new' system from Gingerbread and prior (most of those were incremental updates)... so it will not be as simple as dumping, copying, praying. This will take some serious effort--but I for one am down for partaking. and I love that this phone can receive calls underwater--bwaahaha!

Do you have the MLC/SPC for the RW version of the phone? I would like to get root on my phone but I cannot figure out the MLC. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Our device unfortunately is XT557, not 535, so it will not be that simple for us. Plus RW has not released the SPC or info on the calculation of it.
Just got Defy XT 557
I just got my Defy XT 557 from republic and I would also be interested in helping get a new rom built for ics.
Once I am able to upgrade to this phone i will. This thread is not dead yet. Being in Wave A is taking awhile .

[Q] Change region

I have a ARC S, it is not locked to any network and has never been.
It is currently running Android 4.0.3. I wish to install android 4.0.4.
I did a freash install of 4.0.3 and it made thingsa much better.
I have no lagging, no crashing or any problems.
The only problem i have is Sony seem to have thier fingers stuffed up thier A**** as i have still not had the update sent to my phone even after trying PC companion and SEUS.
Is there a way i can fool the software into thinking my phone is from a different region that has already had the update.
I want to be able to update without having to wipe it.
Thank you

Dude, you're not the only one who's waiting. Just let Sony do their thing, they already said that the firmware will be released at the end of this month.

Sorry don't mean to be rude!
How do you know Sony are releasing it at the end of the month?
I have looked all over there forums and it seems to be full of people complaining that Sony never get back to them on updates.
The list with released SI numbers has been taken away.
Anyway thanks for your reply.

That was what Sony said at its forums. You can check the sony forums instead. Even so, don't be too enthusiastic with the update as it's not a major update. It only addresses minor issues and the kernel remains unchanged.

Its even easier than changing codes.
Just download flashtool and 587 Iberian Generic firmware. All languages are inside.
Check my post with picture in .13 thread in general section for how to fool it.
If still not working send me pm on Tuesday. I'll help.
Ignore above posts. They are thinking that you're on last 4.0.4 587 and waiting for even newer .13.
He's still on 4.0.3 562! Help him folks.

Could you provide a link to your post .13 with Your picture on it. I am having trouble finding it.
And yes I am still on the first Ice build released by Sony and have been waiting nearly a year for the second update.
Thank you

If you don't understand picture I'll explain on Tuesday.
On picture you can see how I forced it to provide 587 upgrade for UK. And I was on 587 already. Key is revision and customization.
R6D was lower number fw.

Success, I am now running android 4.0.4 on my ARC S.
Sony have not released the update for my SI number but I managed to fool the PC companion into offering the update.
I rooted my phone.
Used a Build.prop editor to change my I'd code.
Restarted my phone. The phone still would not update over the air, but when I plugged it into my pc and fired up PC Companion, it offered the new update.
All done,
Thanks for all the help
