So I've tinkered with my incredible for months and finally got where I like it, better yet where my gf is comfortable using too. I was hoping for some help in getting a similar setup for her and wanted to reach out for some help in comparable ROM, kernel, radio for her.
ROM
I'm currently running skyraider vanilla
because I like some stock HTC but pretty stripped down but Facebook for sense is nice among others
Kernel
We have a new kernel that charges at about a % a minute or so. I also assume I am needing a sense version since I'm looking for a vanilla ROM
Radio
What radio seems to be best? Signal/battery life
Thanks for any input guys. These forums are the best.
Also I have read through some posts but figured I'd ask for some input on favorites here.
Thanks again

Not too familiar with your skyraider vanilla ROM but from the looks and sounds of it, it sounds similar to the Sprint Lover's ROM here on the Evo forums. You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153
Here is Myn's Warm ROM. Also a popular favorite based on HTC's Sense
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
As for kernels, she should try using Netarchy's Underclocked Kernels. They save power by underclocking dynamically.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763
There is also a test kernel for battery trickle charging to get the most out of your battery.

Also for Radios, you should update to the latest.

FYI, there is a patch in the Dev section that will allow you to run Incredible ROMs on the Evo. The two phones are close enough that you can almost boot up Evo ROMs on the incredible and vice versa without any changes.
Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to try a few out. Most important thing for me is stability since its the girlfriends

2
My phone feels like it responds much quicker
(granted I haven't done much to hers yet)
3
In Phoenix area my coverage and speed tests are much better then hers
4
Corporate agreement with Verizon, for unlimited everything pay 60/month
Not knocking the Evo, just not the for me. I bought her the Evo and had to pry her old Blackberry out of her hands.
It will fit perfectly in her large purse though

CyanogenMod 6.1.1 is probably your best bet. Everything works on it, including wifi/gps/bluetooth, all that jazz. It's just the stock theme, as you probably know, but there's a nice thing also in the development section called Cyanoginger 1.1 final, should be near the top, it's a gingerbread theme for cm6.1.1. That should do it for her
CyanogenMod 6.1.1 or if she likes sense GratiousSlide 1.0

Since he edited, I'm not sure what the status is on the GPS of the current CM7, but it's not too good for me.
CM6.1.1 is probably where it's at. It served me well
EDIT: Upon closer inspection, I see the GPS stuff should be fixed. I'd still go with the CM6.1.1/Cyanoginger1.1 combo.
GPS works fine with me using CM7 nightly

GPS working fine on CM7 Nightly here as well. Also the BEST battery life I have gotten from any rom in the time I have had this phone.
Id go with cm7. Everything works, its blazing fast, and i think the battery life is slightly better.

I know this thread is a few days old but, here is my take.
I have the Slide and love it. I decided to root so I could have Froyo. Here is what I"ve learned.
If you go with Cyanogen you lose everything that makes the slide sense ui so great. You don't have peep, the weather widget, the awesome htc music app, friend stream, and all the other things that make the slide so awesome. However, you do get much better reception and call quality and much faster download speeds over wifi, edge, and 3g.
If you go with GratiousSlide then you get to keep all the cool htc sense apps with all the sleek looks and functionality but, you end up with the same half baked call quality and reception. Doesn't matter what radio you have your still stuck with the same cell tower reception you had with the stock slide rom. Download speeds are much better than the stock slide rom and, do seem comparable to CM6/7 but, I still think CM is just a bit faster.
Pick your poison.

Cyanogenmod is faster yes, but it has nothing to do with call quality? I had no difference in call quality/reception. There is a difference in download speeds, yes, but that is most likely due to the overall speed of the rom, not reception/radio-related.

Ah you are correct, sorry about that, I should have done more research. I now get the same reception I had with CM6.
On my Slide I had to downgrade the radio to 7.09.35.10
If I use the newest one, 7.15.35.16, I get terrible reception like I did with my stock slide.

Huh, that's odd. That's the second time I've heard that today. It didn't affect mine at all, not only that, but it doubled speeds. But it seems some people are having reception issues.

sorry everyone I should have posted this sooner. but the past week has been insane. I finally got around to rooting my wife's slide last Thursday I think. I went with cm6 because I didn't want to deal with nightly builds. that would drive my wife crazy if I was upgrading it everyday. told her I would probably upgrade it once a month.
she's been using it since then and is loving the hell out of it. the battery life is insane now. I didn't upgrade the radio, atleast not to my knowledge. anyway the reception seems fine, in fact her phone sports a fat H instead of 3g practically everywhere in dfw. lucky
I so glad she's happy about it and now I don't have to hear about how her phone sucks every day.

Hey hey, that's awesome to hear, man. Maybe when there's an RC or Stable version of CM7 you can upgrade her to that.
I'm hopefully switching from my Fascinate to the inc 2 today. I've read that it has a horrid amount of bloatware, which I plan to immediately remove. I've looked at numerous rooting guide on here for the inc 2, which all seem fairly straightforward. One thing I am curious about however, is how I can go about getting my phone back to stock if it gets stuck in a boot loop etc. for any reason. Thanks again, you guys are always a huge help!
Edit: Also, a lot of the roms for the inc 2 seem very stable and equally popular. Are there any that are more notorious for bugs etc than others?

One thing's for sure: if the Fascinate is anything like the Captivate in terms of flashing, then you will LOVE not having to do the hokey pokey every time you want to change / flash ROMs. The whole moving back to stock and having to back up your internal storage thing is flaky. With HTC/Droid Incredible, it's just flash and go, flash and go, flash and go.
Yeah, with this you can go from AOSP back to sense and such all you want, no need to "ODIN" between like on the fassy.
For sense roms, i love virtuous unity, if you just came from the fassy i'd give it a shot, since sense is nothing like touchwiz (it's actually usuable)
yep the cappy was the same way odin back to stock yadayadayada. then when gb came to town u had to worry about bootloaders. flash a froyo primary bootloader with a gb secondary or vice versa you got a complete brick. I don't miss the modem dance either. I do miss voodoo sound though that made music sound amazing

notorious for bugs? newtoroot's roms are the worst, the dude keep releasing a bunch of junk that he never intend to support so it seems, he didn't even bother to fix the very first rom he unleashed and now he's on his 6th or 7th. I'd stay FAR away from that dude's crap.
Try Skyrider Zeus, Gingerbang, CM7, virtuous unity, and Miui, these are the least problematic roms so far.
To answer your question (I think)... Yes, you can stock out; No, you don't have the luxury of anything like ODIN if something goes wrong, it's a more involved process (not as easy as an ODIN flash).
There are a ton of EVO roms now, and without reading every single one, I wanted to just ask all of you:
What are a couple good, very stable, and fast ROMS for the EVO with everything working (especially hotspot and 4G)? I'd prefer it to be as bare as possible, I already have all the apps I want backed up. A lot of ROMs (like the one I'm running) claim to be super fast and stable, and not all of them live up to their word. Don't need sense, I'll be using a launcher anyway.
I think you're looking for Digital Karma v7.77; this is pretty much the rom that's leading the pack so you may discontinue your search now...

Funny enough that was the ROM I was running when I posted this. I didn't like all the bloat that came with it...some of the programs were nice, but most just took up space. And I wasn't terrible impressed with the phone, it wasn't very snappy and responsive at all. Maybe my phone's just a dud ;p
My favorite ROM by far thus far has been Calkulin's EviO 3, but for some reason as of late, even with a fresh install, the market always force closes, especially when using titanium backup. But only on this ROM...anyway, so I've begun looking for a new best friend lol

Hey Wiz just a little curiosity question... Do you have your sd card partitioned? Because that space problem you mentioned is virtually solved with having your sd card properly partitioned. You sound like you have a lot of apps saved to TB and you're restoring to your internal memory, that of course will cause a lot of problems along with unsufficient space.
I hadn't at that time, but since then have. The problem wasn't low space, I just didn't like all the apps that were pre loaded into karma, I didn't use or need most of them. But for some reason, with a fresh install, it just didn't seem too snappy to me. Idk, I could have a messed up phone

DK v7.77 is great. Overall very speedy on my evo. Only issue is that it tends to be a little unresponsive when swiping to unlock or swiping to pull down notifications and I often have to swipe several times.
My favorite right now is SS_Ultra. AFAIK, it's only one of two roms based on the latest evo ota. It's a bit of a wip, but the v3.0 that was released last night is really great - very snappy and responsive and almost 400mb free after flashing and moving dalvik to sd-ext.

The Evo has basically no more major updates, and most users and developers already had their upgrade available (mines in october), and got a dual core phone, and stopped supporting the original Evo.
I'm not asking for advice just want to see what people are up to with the phone. Details welcomed.

My main phone... my only phone...
The Rom is exact same thing I've been running for over a year now... still love it... I haven't found anything that gives as good all-around experience. I've been hoping that the few remaining kinks get worked out of the Jelly Bean ROMs for the Dinc. But I'm probably gonna be getting a new phone next month, so I might as well quit reading the threads for those ROMs (like I am today). Not that there is anything wrong with Dinc, but I'll save over $40 per month once I switch to T-Mobile. So I'll be having to settle for a new Nexus 4 when that happens. The savings in monthly bills will pay for the Nexus 4 in 9 months. By the end of 12 months... I'll be about $120 dollars ahead by retiring the Dinc, and the savings will just continue. That's just for me...my wife has already made the switch (savings X2).
The Dinc will still get used for various things... so it will be a "working reitirement" for the Dinc.

I'm still using my dinc; I'm running Tiny's 10.1 with only a couple bugs besides the known videocamera stuff.

I had been running the official CyanogenMod 7.2 nightlies, but when the nightly changes slowed down over the past three weeks, I decided to switch to the bleeding-edge CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies compiled by Pons, and then picked up by tiny.
I could give up the video capture, and the still camera app bug was "fixed" by using the "Camera ICS" app. I haven't tested the MMS capabilities yet, but I end up using email so much more often than MMS anymore, I don't think I'll miss it.
My hesitation about upgrading phones is more about "not wanting to lose the unlimited data that I'm not actually using anyway". I'll probably keep the Inc around as a music and video player even after I upgrade.
I've been crack flashing like crazy lately. I want to stick with 10.1 but not being able to reliably video record my kids' silly antics keeps me switching back to GB roms. Sense, 7.2, etc. Went back to miui recently, I forgot how smooth it runs. Btw, regarding Poweramp, how do you enable track skipping via volume long-press? I must be missing something.

I am still using the DInc as my daily driver and I use Albinoman's JB rom. It has similar JB issues (video camera/camera) It does get laggy at points during the day when I have music (play store) streaming and browsing reddit over 3G on the bus. But works great otherwise. I use Google Voice for texts so I never had MMS (don't know what I am missing) and use email and G+ for picture sharing.
