There are a ton of EVO roms now, and without reading every single one, I wanted to just ask all of you:
What are a couple good, very stable, and fast ROMS for the EVO with everything working (especially hotspot and 4G)? I'd prefer it to be as bare as possible, I already have all the apps I want backed up. A lot of ROMs (like the one I'm running) claim to be super fast and stable, and not all of them live up to their word. Don't need sense, I'll be using a launcher anyway.
I think you're looking for Digital Karma v7.77; this is pretty much the rom that's leading the pack so you may discontinue your search now...
Reloaded. Fast, lightweight, everything works.

Funny enough that was the ROM I was running when I posted this. I didn't like all the bloat that came with it...some of the programs were nice, but most just took up space. And I wasn't terrible impressed with the phone, it wasn't very snappy and responsive at all. Maybe my phone's just a dud ;p
My favorite ROM by far thus far has been Calkulin's EviO 3, but for some reason as of late, even with a fresh install, the market always force closes, especially when using titanium backup. But only on this ROM...anyway, so I've begun looking for a new best friend lol

digital karma...every other rom ive used had something broken, because i dont like Sense UI as much... ive been using ICS roms :good:

Hey Wiz just a little curiosity question... Do you have your sd card partitioned? Because that space problem you mentioned is virtually solved with having your sd card properly partitioned. You sound like you have a lot of apps saved to TB and you're restoring to your internal memory, that of course will cause a lot of problems along with unsufficient space.
I hadn't at that time, but since then have. The problem wasn't low space, I just didn't like all the apps that were pre loaded into karma, I didn't use or need most of them. But for some reason, with a fresh install, it just didn't seem too snappy to me. Idk, I could have a messed up phone
The best rom ever for stability and simplicity was SalvageMod. Never had a more stable and lightning quick phone. It isn't supported anymore, but then again, the Evo in general is barely supported now.

Remove the sense launcher and replace it with a different launcher such as Go or ADW and Removing all the sense apps except the ones necessary to keep the phone running.

DK v7.77 is great. Overall very speedy on my evo. Only issue is that it tends to be a little unresponsive when swiping to unlock or swiping to pull down notifications and I often have to swipe several times.
My favorite right now is SS_Ultra. AFAIK, it's only one of two roms based on the latest evo ota. It's a bit of a wip, but the v3.0 that was released last night is really great - very snappy and responsive and almost 400mb free after flashing and moving dalvik to sd-ext.

The Evo has basically no more major updates, and most users and developers already had their upgrade available (mines in october), and got a dual core phone, and stopped supporting the original Evo.

I am looking to find out what other people use on there EVO and why they like or love it better than any other rom that is available here.
I have tried both sprint lovers and cm7 and I have likes and dislike with both. So please give me your reason why on likes and dislike to help me choose my next Rom to try.

Version one of destroyer had a few glitches, if you flash version 2 over version one it takes care of the glitches, and there is a lot of information on both threads about solving little errors like that. I've had 0 random reboot on version 2. And there is always a chance for them with Asop Rom, at least that's been my experience with all that i have tried.

i will probally do that, i currently just flashed kings unleashed black r3 then flashed the blue ballah theme im likeing it so far. will see over time.
The best ROM for the Evo is the one that suits your needs the best.
Everyone's are different.
For me, Sense: Koni's and King's.
CM: Destroyer and SalvageMod
If you want the best of both worlds, VaelPak is really cool!
I agree pretty much with the above. Destroyer is probably my favorite ROM, but right now I'm trying out Savaged-Zen RC1. You need to try a variety of them and just see what fits you.
Minimally, I would recommend trying Miui, VaelPak, Kings Unleashed/MikFroyo/Warm, and some Gingerbread AOSP ROMs (CM7, Savaged-Zen, Destroyer, SalvageMod, etc.).
I was an unleashed fan, so i can see the appeal. King dose make a fast stable Rom. I just didn't like all the themed app icons, and then having to uninstall and install the app again just to updated. And all the setting up of the ext and movement of the app to it, with the cm Roms a2sd is built in and you can have them auto to the external, i have 31 downloaded app and only 73 mb of internal used. Also with the theme pack from version one of destroyer you have access to changing the theme on the fly and not having to boot into recovery and flashing the theme zip, wireless tether is also built in. I use multi mount for connection to my computer since i have all my app on the card. I could tell you everything i enjoy about this Rom, I'm hoping that mag gets the Evo 3d and builds a destroyer for it.

The phantom voicemail fix is HERE i've personally done it myself and it does work.
I'm the same way, I like originality with my phone. Best thing for you to do if find a rom you like and see what customization zips it offers. I tell every Myn's since it lists a ton of mods on the thread (click my red signature banner) and Konikub's Rom as well offers nice customizations to make the phone "unique".
edit: oh and of course MikFroyo
Kewl, ill give that rom a try on my next rom install. So far I'm. Liking kings unleashed dark rom. But a channge is in the works soon everything mostly in black and white gets boring quick, and I already tried the blue ballah theme like it as well.

cm7 is my preference. it has everything i need and everything i want and everything i dont need all packaged in one. there are so many options, and it is CRAZY fast and i get FANTASTIC battery. destroyer (1 and 2) are just themed versions of cm7. try cm7 or destroyer. and if you dont like the look of cm7, keep in mind there is a one click theme changer built in.
a list of every rom i would try. KEEP IN MIND YOU DONT KNO A ROM UNTIL YOU HAVE RUN IT FOR AT LEAST 3 HOURS WITH HEAVY USAGE, OR A DAY WITH MEDIUM TO LOW USAGE.
try :
cm7: aosp base, biggest dev project on xda. spans across many phones. most popular rom (probably) over all xda. seriously cool. try it try it try it.
miui: also aosp base. also spans across quite a few phones. this is much more custom than cm7. it looks and feels like a combo between android and iphone. some people like it, some people dont. some people love it. some people get 4 days of battery life on it. try it to see where you stand.
myn's warm twopointtwo: very popular sense (stock) based. dark themed. fast. customizable. good battery. again, was crazy popular. has sort of lost popularity cuz myn stopped updating ("if i cook froyo anymore, it will burn " -myn) but if it's new for you, it can still be really cool.
mikfroyo: another popular sense based. fast. compressed. fast. customizable. i'm not a fan but many are.
android creative syndicate: this team has released a few roms. ultra unleashed and koni's elite. try at least one if not both. they are very good themers (you can tell they like black) and take rom building seriously.
you dont need to try this next one, but it is the perfect in-between.
vaelpek rom is sense based, but stripped down as much as possible to be pretty much senseless. you will get a little of that sense sluggyness and high memory, but not much. the dev does a great job making this the rom for all who want a perfect in-between with everything working but as littel sense as possible.
also reccomended: one of the desire z ports (mik z or myn's warm z). salvage mod: stock gingerbread.
any others to add?
hope this helps you make your decision.
I am looking for a stable 2.2 or 2.2.1 rom for my wifes g2. I have glanced at the development forum and it seems gingerbread is all the rage right now. My wife just needs a solid, dependable, daily driver. I just want to flash something for her that works and be done with it. The stock rom seems to have some bloat and I am hoping for better battery life as well.
What is the most popular rom at the moment? I rooted her phone (permanent s-off) so I am ready to go. Thanks in advance!
I would honestly suggest cm7. Or for the best sense rom, virtuous. You could just remove the bloat with Titanium backup from the stock rom.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the info. I will probably give virtuous a try.
Highly recommend virtuous' froyo offering until the dev releases the gingerbread version. I've been using it since I got my DZ and it's simply amazing how stable and fast it really is.
I actually flashed Virtuous this morning to see if it was any good and all I can say is it was laggy as a shaggy sheep. I flashed the whole thing through rom manager and did a full wipe so I don't know what the hell but it was insanely laggy. You could hit a button and wait well over a second for a response. Maybe I needed to flash a new kernel? Maybe I needed to run the update from .0 to .1? Who knows?! I found it aesthetically pleasing but that is about it. (Maybe it is because I have a g2 and it is for desire z?)
For stable daily drivers I've been using Cm6.1.1 for nearly a month. I found Cm7RC4 to have to many niggling issues like my camera locking up the phone every couple times I tried to use it. Let alone needing to use gps.
I hear good things about miui but I cannot speak from experience.
I've been using CM7 RC2 for a couple of weeks now without issue. It has been stable, improved battery life and performance.
I'd also suggest CM7. I've been using that ever since i rooted my phone, and havent had any problems with it so far.

I have never flashed a rom through rom manager. Only really used it to get CWM installed. I prefer to get a rom going the old fashioned way and flash through recovery. Did a full wipe of data, battery, davlik then installed the rom on day one and has been running flawless ever since.
While CM7 is working good its not 100% stable yet. There are random reboots and freezes. I would say the most stable ROM at the moment is CM6.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841275 It's not Gingerbread but still everything works and there are no problems to report.

Keep in mind that CyanogenMod is designed specifically to be *fast*. Virtuous is simply a port of the HTC Sense ROM. Also, keep in mind that Virtuous comes 'out of the box' with the regular HTC kernel - 800MHz, no changes. There are 2 additional kernels available: Standard - OC'd to 1GHz (highest you can go without changing voltage) and a built-in screen off profile. Does not support SetCPU or anything. Advanced is a full-blown open kernel - you can setup your own profiles, overclock (I think to 1.5GHz or so). I personally run Advanced to 1.2GHz with some other profiles, but if it was my wife's phone, I'd toss the Standard kernel in there and call it a day.
Also, Sense *does* add some bloat (it's an entirely new UI), but it's totally worth it, IMO (especially for a girl's phone). The improved visuals, extra features, etc make it totally worth it. If you're doing that much, go ahead and setup LauncherPro instead of the stock Sense launcher and she'll be rocking and rolling.
This is very helpful info everyone. I now have to decide between cm 6.1 and virtuous. Sounds like both of these roms are the set it and forget it variety which is what I was looking for. She is not a flashaholic like myself so one stable rom is all I need.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

See that is the thing, I don't like the fact that I will have to overclock my phone to make Virtuous "run good". That is pretty damn silly in fact. I mean they package the kernel for stock speeds since it is based on the DZ stock rom. What about all those desireZ owners? They surely don't have to overclock to make their phones run without any lag. Why not package a kernel that is capable of overclocking to a reasonable speed out of the box like any one of the cyanogen releases?
I feel this is a tremendous oversight on the ROM developers part. I would love to rock their rom and get a good feel for Sense UI so all the people who come to me for advice on tech related matters can have my unbiased opinion on the UI, not what I had to go through to make it run without any lag. That is some Grade A bull****.
I suppose it would be less bull**** if I knew how to flash a kernel.
You flash it the same as a Rom except no wipe and it takes about 30 seconds. Also virtuous used to come stock with overclock but took many people were having issues with it. As in they don't know how to set up proper profiles with a setcpu type program. So the overlook kernels became an extra add-on for more advanced users.

Virtuous is good with overclock. I found the untouched gingerbread sense ruu that rmk prepared to be a lot smoother. Bluetooth was a bit hit and miss though.
I'm on the saga ginger sense rom right now and no issues at all. Had to tweak some aesthetic things like font, but it's good.
Still haven't found a rom on the dz as good as Super D was on the G1 yet...

Funny thing, I think the first 20 or so minutes on a new rom may not be representative. I flashed my wife's mt3g slide using the stock update, and it lagged BADLY for the first 20 min. Including a battery pull because the phone app (com.android.phone) went non responsive. Just my $0.02.

This rom gives you plenty of options, is as stable as CM6.1 or more stable. Runs faster.
I do think it scores somewhat slower on the benchmarks, however in this users opinion it is much faster in scrolling, loading, and general usage.
You will have to google to find it, but give it a try. You can have lots of the sense elements or disable them if you want a more plan vanilla experience.
Also I did very much like cm6.1
Cm7 is coming along but still working out many bugs... see the changelog. Many will say this is stable enough for daily use.
I used to use virtuous, have since moved on to gingerbread ROMs though. When I was using virtuous it was brilliant. Fast and stable. It was not laggy like another user said. I used CWM recovery to flash it and did a full data/cache wipe beforehand and you should do whenever you change ROMs. Another vote for senses ease of use and virtuous' reliability!

I came from the fascinate which had some features I really liked. wondering how the miui rom is running? bugs? also I think my most missed feature was that it stopped charging when it hit 100%. do an of the roms have that feature? I really like the look of sense so I'd be perfectly happy with all the features of it plus the extra personalization included with a custom rom. thanks in advance!

I too came from the Fascinate. I tried MIUI on that, but I didn't give it much of a chance (it was pretty early, and like most ROMs for the Fascinate, there were things that didn't work).
I've tried all the major ROMs on the Incredible now (Stock, CM7, Virtuous and now MIUI), and I have to say, MIUI is really nice. No major bugs that I've come across and everything works - GPS, MMS, Camera, Camcorder, etc. Great battery life too. I've simulated the app drawer (which MIUI doesn't have) by placing all my extra apps into a folder, and then placing that folder in the center of the dock bar at the bottom - instant vertical scrolling app drawer. This way, I retain most of what I like about Android, and gain all the nice features and design of MIUI.
If you like Sense, then you'll want to stick to one of the Sense ROMs though. But of all the major ROMs, they're all running really well.
Newts roms are amazing. If you enjoy sense, then i'd recommend trying out his pyramid or sensation releases. Battery life is pretty great too...plus you have all the features of sense 3.0. but the best thing for you to do is just try different roms (sense, CM, miui, etc) and see which one you prefer. happy flashing!
I too came from Fascinate, and have tried every single one of the custom roms available for our Dinc2, at the end of the day I always rolled back to the original GB because that is the one and only rom that has zero problem. Every single one of the custom roms have issue, some more severe than the other, out of all of them the Virtuous Unity, Gingerbang, and RMK debloated version are the only three with the least problem. If I were you I would try them ALL, and see which one you can live with, personally I'm going to stick with the stock rom and wait a few more months till all the bugs worked out. Do not expect any of these custom roms to be rock solid like the Kangbang 2.0/2.1 or evil fascinating for fassy, it ain't happening just yet.

Coming from fascinate also. I've been switching between MIUI/CM7 and they both are more stable than the fascinate was stock (let alone with ComRom/EF). This phone flies and really lets those ROM's work there magic. I haven't even tried a Sense ROM yet, so no comment on how buggy those are; but from reading through the posts, I don't see a reason to use them... Definitely would say that AOSP ROM's are pretty darn good daily's... IMHO.

And no, there's no issues flashing back and forth between AOSP and stock roms because HTC didn't feel the need to screw with the file systems so much like Samsung did. So happy to be done with all that bs.
I've recently converted to Miui from Unity (which I really like) and have been really pleased so far.
My in call volume is fine with Miui. Can't really say that I have had any issues with this rom so far
My in call volume is great on miui, very stable

+1. MIUI is really a great platform if you are looking for something different. I installed it a few weeks ago and have been bug-free since. Give it a try at least!
oh yay now I'm super excited. ill have a busy evening at work....rooting and flashing. haha. thanks for advice guys!

I tried the Incredible Sensation RLS1 for a while. The Sense 3.0 was interesting but there were a couple glitches that I couldn't live with, so went back to RMK's Gingersense which works great. Might have to give MIUI a try after reading the above comments! ;-) Much more fun than my old Blackberry!
I am almost convinced to give MIUI another try from all you guys talking like this even though I was having connectivity and wired headset problems when I tried it.
I have been using Virtuous Unity's Sense3.0 ever since without a problem...
But, man oh man it is hard to stop flashing Even when I think I've found perfection.
I am using OMFGB 1.3 nighties. It performs pretty well. Very slimmed down AOSP Rom but still has some nice features. I like MIUI and may try it again, but I was having slow data speeds on it so I switched. I like Incredible Sensation also.
OMFGB has been the most stable rom I've tried. Plus they are including some awesome mods in God Mode.

so as some of you know, i've been on MIUI for ages..due to the lack of support and the plain issues ive been having i been thinking about switching out.
so i ask you all..what do you think i should switch too?
an AOSP or a SENSE rom..and why?
AOSP! Recently, dev supports been great and everything is so stable. Even compared to stock. I'm on aeroevan's cm7.2 kang, and it's been great.

If you like sense, I'd highly recommend Mikrunny. If you want AOSP, check out aero's cm7.2 kang. I ran the cm7.2 the other day, and if it weren't for me being too in love with sense, and hating the AOSP camera, I would've stayed.

thanks for the feedback. i actually have two browser windows open trying to decide on the two.
i think i may run AOSP considering i'm such a junkie for open source.
ill give AV's 7.2 a go.
thanks again!
I am also a miui fan an have been running it long time. 7.2 kang is a good choice, I have tried almost everything out but keep coming back to miui, as i just don't like sense at all.
I liked liquid, its aosp

Also, make sure you flash his 0.8bfs kernel. Its easily my favorite and I'm clocked at 1209/400something and I easily get a day of usage.

I have the same debate every so often but i always end up back on miui. As others have said the cm 7.2 kangs are nice, Zeus is my personal favorite sense rom but i hear the new mik runny is nice too.

If you use the camera on your phone for anything you are best to stick with sense, no doubt there. Even taking simple snapshots aosp is horrible at best. Major deal breaker for many including myself. Mikrunny here.

I actually like the cm7 camera, not as much as sense, but the quality is equal in my opinion

The more recent builds of MIUI have been admittedly buggy (or just plain don't work), and I had been upgrading to each Friday build but then realized... what's the point? It ran fine months ago, nothing new has been added that makes any real usability difference, so why was I continually fixing something that wasn't broken - with something that was pre-broken? I flashed an old build that ran fine and I can see no reason to change. Maybe I'll update once (if) an Android 4.0 based MIUI is available. Maybe, but again, what issues would it be fixing?
So my opinion would be, if you like MIUI, find an older build that predated all the current problems (I think anything 11.25 or earlier were good) and enjoy. From time to time, I check out something new, but I keep coming back to the realization that MIUI has real usability improvements over the others, and that's in addition to looking a whole lot cleaner and more consistent.
which ROM?
Glad you asked! I've been enjoying custom ROMs since early Droid Incredible 1 days, and have treid and modified many of them.
For the DInc2, I've used MIUI, stock, and a couple others.
Have totally settled on a daily user with no defects: MIK Runny V. 1.01.
After downloading, I opened it with 7Zip, went to System/Apps, and removed
several things I never use and don't want loading up. Be careful here, though,
sometimes you break other things when removing stuff (!) but that's OK,
you can reload the ROM and start again if you mess up. Fun stuff really.
Well, the camera, phone, txts, Internet, and everything else works.
And it's FAST. Hope you get a chance to fiddle with MIK Runny..
If you're looking for a Sense, efficiently modified stock-type experience,
you'll be pleased.
I agree with the others saying mikrunny. I didn't believe it could be that good, so I tried it myself, and my jaw, literally dropped the first time I flicked through the home screens. It really is super smooth. Also, the battery life is amazing. A day of medium use, with everything synching regularly and nothing turned off, leaves me with about 20% when I plug it in at night.

I like mikrunny as much as anyone, but something about can just not stand how small the tabs are at the bottom of sense apps as opposed to incredible 2 HD. I just can't take it

My soon to be wife has been having some issues with her trusty Evo 4G, and I've been wanting to root her phone for some time to get her access to wireless tethering.
So I'm wondering, what would you all recommend for a stable/fast Sense ROM that could add some features. She's really comfortable with Sense, so I don't want to switch it up on her too much, but I would like to think she would appreciate some value added features. Was originally thinking Mik's, but I haven't used it in a long time....and the other Sense based ROMs I've used recently have been not as stable as I had hoped.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

No way! Here I was just expecting to get some normal ROM recommendations, and here you go and show me a ROM designed for the ladies?? You rock, thanks, will definitely check this out.
my wife likes tommys classic....when I was on sense I liked mikg3.11, although it did seem to bog down.
I'm a lady using Tommytomatoe's Classic altho a lot of guys like it too. It is beautiful, everything is perfect. Had Mikg before. The classic is smoother and faster.

What were the "issues" she was having with her existing Evo?
And was *she* asking for wireless tether or was that more your suggestion?
I don't mean that to come cross as accusatory - just saying my advice would depend on who's really driving this and what problem is really being solved.
My favorites are Nitrous and Classic. For me they're the best performing and most stable.
Tommy's classic rom and the pink theme would be great. As a guy I even liked the pink theme as it was clean and well made.

If a no sense rom is one of your options, then I suggest CM7.
There are a lot of themes available that can be changed to even as per the mood if need be coz its that easy.
CM7 + LunarUI
XDA link for the theme
Or even MIUI ... GB versions for now
.
For Sense, I also prefer Nitrous and Classic. For non-Sense, I use MIUI but I'm still on GB MIUI which has tons of themes (I don't use 4G even though I live in a 4G area).
For a Sense ROM MikG 3.11 is the best hands down. Plenty of themes, GREAT battery life without swapping kernals, fast, no lag and it all just works.
I flash a lot of ROM's but always go back to MikG until something else and beat it.

Not accusatory at all....
She's having issues with MMS send/receive, where it doesn't want to download the image or send the image. This is a new issue that is happening more frequently for some reason.
She's also having an issue where notifications are not disappearing after she views the item...for instance new gmail notification appears, she views the item by clicking on the notification, all mail is read, and notification is still there. She has to either clear it manually or go back into gmail and exit for it to disappear.
I use wireless tether on occasion, and she's jealous of the functionality....so this is her asking for the functionality, not me pushing it on her.
She has the new phone bug, but can't get one until fall. I know how a new ROM can curb this urge, so I figured why not install something that:
a) fixes her issues above
b) makes her phone more responsive w/ better battery life
c) gives her wireless tether
d) gives her the appearance changes to help curb the appetite for a new phone
I think I'm going to have to go with MikG for her. I've had the most experience with it myself, and also seems like the most popular choice by all of your responses.
Thanks everyone for helping me out with this, I had way more response than I anticipated and after I open her up to the world of ROM's maybe I can start steering her more towards an AOSP world so her next phone can be a nexus.

Special thanks to a lady responding to this thread. Makes me a feel a little more comfortable rooting my lady's phone.
I think I need to give Tommy's classic a try as well, seems to be MikG's arch rival in the world of Sense ROM's.
Nitrus and Digital karma... faster and smaller than MikG 3.11

I discovered this ROM too and found it to be snappy and reliable. No random reboots and everything working just great. I went back to Energy ROM with his latest release on the 4th and it is visually the most appealing and at its most stable version. It depends on which sense version you prefer. Sense 1.0 is super stable and sense 3.5 is fancy as hell.
