Lost S-off

Need to return my leedroid 2.2.2 to stock.
Somehow i have lost eng s-off. Tried to install different radio but it wouldnt allow me, as bootloader says ship s-off. So have been advised that i need to downgrade again, and go through the s-off / root process again - Here
How do i go back to the easy rooted 1.32 stock again. I have an RUU for that version, but its not seeing the phone. Found a workaround - Here - but it only got so far before the phone froze, and the installer said it couldnt find phone.
Thought for a minute i had bricked the phone, so after crapping myself, decided to seek help here on how to return to 1.32!

Look at the rooting tutorials for 1.72.
AFAIK, you need to change the version number for this to work (to allow downgrade).

Do you have ship s-off or you do not?

You can't flash a radio because you don't have eng s-off, therefore no fastboot commands.
Just flash any ruu you want using the pd98img.zip method and all shall be stock. Launching an ruu update from your pc is notoriously unreliable and I would never recommend it.

Had tried to flash pd98img from my sd card but kept getting some error (cant remember what it was now, will check again later). So thought maybe needed to use the RUU to go back to a stock ROM, but was just guessing at that. Will have another go at PM98IMG when i get home from work.

You have Radio S-OFF, so you do not have to use the downgrade guide. Just flash 1.32.405.6 stock ROM using PD98IMG.zip (get that from the downgrade guide), and then you can use my Radio S-OFF tool to go S-ON. You can also check the S-ON instructions in my tool thread.

Thanks. I tried last night to do this (though i was going to go the full downgrade route) but couldnt get it to install. But i was selecting the zip from sd card, which i think is wrong? (hboot will pick the zip up itself?)
Can you briefly explain to me what S-ON is? Im a total noob here, and always thought we were looking S-OFF to flash Kernels, Radios etc.
I owe you a thanks. Already handed out 5 today and cant give any more!

hmm having problems. Have got back to stock ok. But when i try to run your tool i keep getting connection error. Have tried in XP and win 7, and from root of drive as some others have suggested worked for them. Any ideas?

[Q] Problem in bootloader? + want to restore to stock rom

Hi guys
I installed a few custom roms into my dhd in the last few days. I had to downgrade to the 1.3X version of stock rom to do this. I got tips from the xda post.
After this whenever i go to bootloader, i see that the
bootloader is searching for the ruu rom. If i put the ruu zip file in sd card, it will try to do an install. Is there something wrong with my bootloader? Please advice.
I also want to try and restore the phone to the stock condition. (No gripes with custom roms. Just want to give this a try) Will an ruu flash the old recovery back in? Or should i do this seperately? And what about the radio? Will it come with ruu?
I use a goldcard now. Will it void my warranty if i dont remove it? I dont have ruu roms specific to india with me.
Please help me out. Searched the forum but :-(

1-maybe not, only that u need to re-name the file to "update.zip" or pd98img.zip..
depending that you want to do..
2-yes, an original ruu flashes the originalk recovery...(u can´t do anything in this recovery...)
3-radio not comming with the RUU or with a custom rom... you should to flash it apart... via fastboot or with a tool..
4-goldcard don´t removes your warranty... its maded into the sd card- remove it or format... and gold card dissapears
5-If u don´t found An official RUU for your country... always can enjoy the WEE ruu (generic) without problems...

But why is the bootloader searching for the zip? I think the downgrade process caused this issue.
Or will all bootloaders search for the zip?
How did you get the name pd98img.zip? My bootloader is indeed searching for this zip file! I never mentioned it in my post
edit:: A few more hours in the forum gives me the impression that all bootloaders will search for this file. Am I right?
Also the RUU has a radio in the name of the file. Should I flash this radio seperately using fastboot?
I see a link to RUU PD98IMG_Ace_hTC_Asia_India_1.84.720.3_Radio_12.28g .60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3_release_175158_signed.zip. Why is the radio name in the file? Will it have the radio inside or should I flash the same radio separately?

I installed RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed and you know what. Even the radio got changed!!!

AAAH ok ok you tried an .exe pack... I forgot to tell you that this is the exception.. sorry... This RUU'S goes with his own recommended radio... Are the original htc roms pure..

what I did was to flash with a 1.32(non indian) version first, temp root it, then remove the radio S OFF.
Then I flashed it with the 1.84 indian version, and all set!!

How to Un-Root Revolutionary Root ?

Rooted successfully yesterday, installed Caulkulins latest ROM and have been having constant reboots...so I figured I would reload my nandroid backup...but it won't happen.
I am loading the stock, rooted rom from Goo-Inside me using Rom Manager.
Now...is there a way to actually un-root?

Just FYI. I tried to use the unrevoked method of unrooting knowing it wouldnt work but gave it a whril anyway and no go. Cant downgrade hboot and cant set s-on. I need a solution to the Revolutianary root method for S-On

Yes. You can find the stock unrooted ROM (it should be around here somewhere) and flash that. You will then be unrooted but still have S-OFF (NAND Unlocked). You can not get that last bit (S-ON) back for now.

You can find the stock ROM here. If you flash that I think you will be stock except for the S-OFF bootloader.

People cant answer a question that they have no answer too...Dont assume it can be done and others are hiding it from you. Quite sure the moment someone figures it out it will be posted....Until then you are going to have to either use the stock ruu or flash one of those stock looking roms without SU

I would think that you could go back to s-on but it seems the method to get there is a bit risky. If you were to follow this guide:

it may be possible to get back hboot 2.16 and then ruu.
Edit: Flash hex edited hboot and then run ruu to obtain s-on.

I was able to hex edit the 2.16 HBOOT to 6.17, which allowed it to overwrite the Revolutionary HBOOT, and immediately set me to S-ON. Then, I flashed the stock GB 4.24 PC36IMG.zip, which successfully overwrote the hex-edited 2.16 HBOOT with the one from the PC36IMG, and my phone is back to stock! AWESOME .

I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU (SOMEHOW) BRICK YOUR DEVICE. FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Files Needed:
6.17 HBOOT - Hex-edited version of 2.16 HBOOT modified to overwrite Revolutionary version
[*]Official Stock ROM (RUU or PC36IMG.zip signed by HTC) - see bottom of post for list of several different stock ROM versions
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The file attached to this post can either be extracted, and the HBOOT.img flashed via Android Flasher, or it can be saved to the root of the /sdcard and flashed via Bootloader (file must be renamed to PC36IMG.zip to flash successfully).[*]If you are using File Explorer and do not see any file extensions, but Windows tells you that the file is a "ZIP file," do NOT add a .zip to the file name! That will result in this happening.
Steps to Un-Root Revolutionary (should work for all S-OFF EVO hardware versions):
Download HBOOT 6.17 and flash using Android Flasher or in Bootloader. Once flashing is complete, Reboot Bootloader and note NAND status. NOTE: At this point, your HBOOT version should be 6.17. If it isn't, then the modified HBOOT file did not flash successfully, and you will need to flash it again.
[*]If you're now "S-ON", move down to "After you're S-ON" section. If not (i.e. you are still "S-OFF"), continue on to next step.
[*]Download the Radio 2.15.00.11.19 from Calkulin's thread and install via recovery (if you'd prefer to install via Bootloader, use this version) - thanks to Calkulin
[*]Download unrevoked S-ON zip - thanks to unrevoked
[*]Boot into recovery and flash unrevoked S-ON zip.
[*]Boot into Bootloader and note NAND status - you should now be S-ON! Proceed to "After you're S-ON section".
After you're S-ON:
Flash an unrooted stock ROM to return your device to factory conditions. Here is a link to Football's thread, with several different RUU versions. Below are direct links to the latest official Froyo & Gingerbread PC36IMG.zip files that can be rooted with unrevoked and Revolutionary, respectively. Also included is the latest Gingerbread OTA release that is rootable via the HTCDev.com website.

After flashing one of the above stock ROMs, you should be restored to stock conditions, including HBOOT, Radio, & NAND-locked status, and ready to return your device for servicing!

After successfully un-rooting your device by flashing the unrooted ROM from above, now we must re-lock NAND (set S-ON). Basically, you just flash the hboot.img from the attached zip file, and it will set your device HBOOT version to 6.17, and re-lock your NAND (S-ON). Then, you can re-flash the ROM from the above step, and it *should* overwrite the hex-edited HBOOT with the "official" version, and restore your device to stock.
Again, this worked for me, but if it doesn't work for you, don't go blaming me, and calling my method a sham.

thanks that worked on my evo hardware 4 i finally got it back to stock !!!!!!!! and i rename the HBOOT file to pc36img and worked too

SWEET UNROOT Revolutionary!
Okay since im new to this stuff and for the noobies like me out there
1. DL his zip file!
2. Rename the Zip file to PC36IMG
3. Connect your phone to your cpu and transfer your PC36IMG zip to your sd card
4. Reboot your phone. (remove battery) then hold Power + Down Volume
5. Phone will boot then just wait till your phone ask if you want to update file! Hit Up to say yes
6. Then THATS IT! YOU CAN REBOOT AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE S-ON IS ON!

This is exactly what I did and it worked flawlessly (btw I'm on 004 and was very scared it would not work but it did

[Q] Upgrading HBOOT from 0.75, AlphaRev failed?

I recently bought a Desire (A8183) and it came with HBOOT 0.75.0000 and I am trying to get S-OFF on it. I tried using AlphaRev and it came up with an error in step 3. How do I overcome this?
The phone still works fine.

1st: Wrong topic, you should post it in Q&A.
2nd: Have you flashed any custom ROM??? If so, thats why you cannot S-OFF it, try any near-to-stock, froyo rooted rom and then try again, this will do the trick

Oops, wrong subforum, didn't realise.
Yes I'm running a custom ROM I'll try a Froyo-based ROM and see if that helps.
It's a shame that Revolutionary doesn't support this version of HBOOT, is there any way of 'tricking' Revolutionary to S-OFF the 0.75 HBOOT?

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it

you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?

try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.

try the goldcard tutorial I posted.
Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.

Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.

Thanks - this looks like it worked now HBOOT 0.93.0001, running revolutionary now.
Is there any benefit in upgrading HBOOT at all? What does 1.02.0001 offer?

Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.

I think I bricked my phone

Ok, I did something stupid and now I think I bricked my phone.
I wanted to go back to stock by flashing an RUU and it failed. Naturally, I remembered I was S-OFF so I went and downloaded the alpharev hboot images required to go back to stock. However, I flashed the downgrader and forgot to flash the Stock HBOOT. I flashed the RUU and now my phone is S-ON and stuck on the wrong HBOOT and thus cannot flash the system partition. Is there anyway I can recover the phone? It is stuck on the HTC screen with 4 triangles on either side. I can access fastboot but can't do anything in there.
Any help would be appreciated.

What was the last HBOOT you flashed, do you have a carrier branded device?

I flashed the Alpharev downgrader then I used the RUU utility to flash and that messed up the whole phone. No, this is not a carrier branded devices
EDIT: The specific order was bravo_downgrader.img > then RUU > nuclear meltdown

Follow THIS guide and I'm sure you should be able to restore your device to a working state.
What version of the RUU did you try to flash, Froyo or GB?

I shall try to follow the guide and see if it helps.
The file I used was title "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed"
So it was the Froyo version
EDIT: I also was on the CM7 r2 hboot and that is the reason my phone cannot complete the process by the way. Forgot to mention that

Follow that guide, create the PB99IMG.zip put it in the root of your SD and follow the tutorial and you should be good.

Is there a way I can get a signed HBOOT from one of the stock ROMs or RUUs and try flashing that as I don't have access to a memory card reader right now?

If you flashed the AlphaRev downgrader HBOOT then the process to unroot using the PB99IMG.zip will restore your device to a working condition and S-ON. I have used this method to unroot many times, the HBOOT contained in the PB99IMG.zip will overwrite the AlphaRev downgrader HBOOT.
The last brick I recovered from was flashing a NEXUS ONE custom HBOOT to my Desire and even after that I was able to revive it.

Thing is, now I am S-ON because of the RUU, will that affect it in any way?

Nah bro, the PB99IMG.zip will over-write everything and restore your device to a factory state.
How far have you got with the process?

Trying to get a memory card reader to make a gold card. Don't have access to one yet. Is it ok if I PM you once I try the process out if I have any questions?
Would appreciate it. Will try to do as much as I can on my own though so I won't bother you with stupid question

Don't loose your time, just download 2.3 RUU from htcdev.com and no goldcard needed.

An awesome forum member messaged me last night and told me the same thing. I thought why not give it a shot and it worked brilliantly. Thanks goes out to jmcclue, nlooooo, and 3f1f37 for all your help
If anyone is facing the same issue as I did. Just flash the 2.3.3 RUU and it should fix it right away. Now on to downgrading to Froyo
