[Q] Problem in bootloader? + want to restore to stock rom - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I installed a few custom roms into my dhd in the last few days. I had to downgrade to the 1.3X version of stock rom to do this. I got tips from the xda post.
After this whenever i go to bootloader, i see that the
bootloader is searching for the ruu rom. If i put the ruu zip file in sd card, it will try to do an install. Is there something wrong with my bootloader? Please advice.
I also want to try and restore the phone to the stock condition. (No gripes with custom roms. Just want to give this a try) Will an ruu flash the old recovery back in? Or should i do this seperately? And what about the radio? Will it come with ruu?
I use a goldcard now. Will it void my warranty if i dont remove it? I dont have ruu roms specific to india with me.
Please help me out. Searched the forum but :-(

1-maybe not, only that u need to re-name the file to "update.zip" or pd98img.zip..
depending that you want to do..
2-yes, an original ruu flashes the originalk recovery...(u can´t do anything in this recovery...)
3-radio not comming with the RUU or with a custom rom... you should to flash it apart... via fastboot or with a tool..
4-goldcard don´t removes your warranty... its maded into the sd card- remove it or format... and gold card dissapears
5-If u don´t found An official RUU for your country... always can enjoy the WEE ruu (generic) without problems...

Thanks Sergi.
But why is the bootloader searching for the zip? I think the downgrade process caused this issue.
Or will all bootloaders search for the zip?
How did you get the name pd98img.zip? My bootloader is indeed searching for this zip file! I never mentioned it in my post
edit:: A few more hours in the forum gives me the impression that all bootloaders will search for this file. Am I right?
Also the RUU has a radio in the name of the file. Should I flash this radio seperately using fastboot?
I see a link to RUU PD98IMG_Ace_hTC_Asia_India_1.84.720.3_Radio_12.28g .60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3_release_175158_signed.zip. Why is the radio name in the file? Will it have the radio inside or should I flash the same radio separately?

I installed RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed and you know what. Even the radio got changed!!!

AAAH ok ok you tried an .exe pack... I forgot to tell you that this is the exception.. sorry... This RUU'S goes with his own recommended radio... Are the original htc roms pure..
sent from my amstrad CPC powered by LOL..(premium xda)

And yes.. bootloader always search pd98img...but then shows you the menu true??its normal.. this file can reflaah your phone if anything goes badly...
sent from my amstrad CPC powered by LOL..(premium xda)

Yes all set!!
what I did was to flash with a 1.32(non indian) version first, temp root it, then remove the radio S OFF.
Then I flashed it with the 1.84 indian version, and all set!!
Thank you!!

One more question, will the RUU exe flash the kernel as well?
Another question too.. Will multiple flashing and reflashing harm the phone in anyways?

I'm interested in trying other ROMs but I would like to be able to return to my current stock ROM if it doesn't work out. Currently I'm running a Bell ROM, but the version is more recent than this one.
Specificially, I'm running 1.34.666.5 with Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M.
Right now, both the firmware and the radio versions are newer than anything on the xda site. Would it be possible for you to obtain a newer RRU? I have checked both the Bell and HTC sites and couldn't find a download link for any RRU.
If it isn't possible, can I expect my phone to update to the current versions OTA if I give it this ROM?
Is it possible for extract the current radio ROM from my phone itself?
I apologize in advance if I'm asking these questions in the wrong place

if you permroot/s-off your phone. you can do a full backup using clockworkmod recovery. however, you do NOT want to flash official ruu's and such, if one is older then the one your on or from another brand, this will happen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
if you want to try this rom, it will have to be A.made into an update.zip rom w/hboot, radio, and recovery all REMOVED, or B. take just the system.img out of it and flash JUST the system.img in fastboot in bootloader (not the fast boot in sense). "fastboot flash system system.img"...you will then need to re-permroot, but skip all the s-off/hboot stuff, you will still be s-off.

Yeah, I need the Radio 12.28b.60.140eU.26.03.02.26_M Extracted from your ROM too. Because I flashed the WWE ROM and I'm having signal issues, compared to my brother who is using that current Bell ROM. If I have to run the Bell ROM to fix this, I'd do that too, but I can't find 1.34.666.5 only the 1.34.666.1 that's listed in this post.
*EDIT*
So... I flashed this posted RUU "[RUU] RUU_Vision_BellMobility_WWE_1.34.666.1_Radio_12.28 b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2".
But found the kernel is different, so I couldn't S-OFF to get recovery back on. So... I had my brother S-OFF his phone and make a
Nandroid of his phone running 1.34.666.5. I then proceeded to flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed" back onto my phone, and then rooted, S-OFF, flashed clockwork" and then recovered using my brothers Nandroid backup. Then used clockwork to reset it back to factory. I then made a nandroid backup of that. So, I am posted a Nandroid Backup of
So if you flashed this, the steps are as follows to get back to the original Bell ROM.
1. Flash "RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed"] ROM via multiupload.com /67NZB9NER1
2. Root
3. S-OFF
4. Install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager
5. Reboot into Clockwork
6. Recover using Bell HTC Desire/Vision 1.34.666.5 Nandroid Backup via my upload here multiupload.com /6SETLDCPJE
Hope that helps some people who are stuck!
PS To Flash the WWE ROM you might need a Gold Card, I used one.
I'd like a tutorial on how to extract just the radio from the WWE roms. If we could get them as .zip's, loading them with recovery would be very beneficial. I know that if you install a WWE update through HBOOT, you will lose your root and it will return your phone to s-off. Its a bit of a pain of having to go through the rerooting process every time.

Ok, so now that I've unlocked my device using the new gfree method, and have true radio S-OFF and SuperCID, I believe that I could now flash any provider image and return to my backup or a stock provider image at any time. I'm right, er, right?

I am not 100% sure on this myself, but I think it should be ok now. Before the problem was that you could flash an older ROM, and it would first off flash the stock HBOOT over the previous eng HBOOT that was giving you S-OFF. So this would immediately put you back to S-ON. However, now with radio S-OFF you will stay at S-OFF in the flashing process, because the change is made in the radio configuration partition, which won't be touched by the flash.
.zip file for the bell rom
Is it possible to make a update.zip from this rom? Yes I'm running a custom ROM I'll try a Froyo-based ROM and see if that helps.
It's a shame that Revolutionary doesn't support this version of HBOOT, is there any way of 'tricking' Revolutionary to S-OFF the 0.75 HBOOT?

You can always update bootloader... if you have a goldcard then put the attached file in the root of your sd-card, and then boot into bootloader and wait for it do do it's thing.. when it prompts you select yes. This will update your bootloader to version 0.93.1002
You shouldn't lose any data, but do make a backup of the ROM in recovery in case you get a bootloop.
Then run Revolutionary.

I downloaded the file and put it on the root sdcard... Bootloader seemed to just skip over the file though.
Do I need to change the text file in the zip to my CID or anything else? It doesn't like it
you need a goldcard, so it ignores the CID.. or actually.. what network are you on?
EDIT: Just noticed lol
Wait I'm downloading a Telstra RUU and I'll give you a new PB99IMG
try this. If not, then you can always use the RUU to do a full update, and then S-OFF and flash a custom ROM.
Thanks I'll give it a try.

Okay, well I'm gonna get to sleep now but I'll give you some advice before you go.
If you can't update the bootloader with that, I'd suggest backing up your ROM (if you havent done so already), flashing the RUU to bring it up to the latest bootloader version, and then using revolutionary.
Once you've S-OFF'd with revo. Use android flasher to flash recovery (Note: your backup will not work if you do not flash the same version of recovery) and then do a full wipe and flash a ROM of your choice.
Would you happen to know where I can get the original Telstra RUU from? I think that might be my best bet.
Thanks for your help!

Hboot 1.xxxx is the stock hboot for gingerbread. So it offers you nothing. By flashing a hboot like cm7 (most roms fit in this hboot), you get much more space for installing apps, because its /data partition is much bigger.

to unroot u only need to flash an ruu (2.29.405.5 if ur phone is not branded by ur operator, otherwise everything will be a bit complex as u need a goldcard)..in general that is a simple action, but because u can't use the usb cable, u have to flash the ruu through the PB99IMG.zip method
look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 everything is in there..read !
good luck and post in the correct section the next time
You can use a 99img.zip to unroot. I haven't found this on xda, so here's a link to the download via http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=109981
http://www.wuala.com/HTC_Desire/RUU...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
You have to make a Goldcard (not sure if it's completely necessary, but better try with it)
Then rename the file to PB99IMG.zip. , put it on the sdcard and reboot into booloader, then select yes to install it
EDIT: Ok, I think you better follow the links by andQlimax
i think i have bricked it with the pb99img.zip method. i can get into bootloader. then i do the update
it says can not roll back hboot
bootlader says bypassed, then all is ok until system, it says fail PU.
it says partition update fail. my hboot is 6.93.1002
it wont load up.
help me my battery is fading fast.
is it because i have cm7/r2?
Yes, you have to use stock hboot to apply the zip, you need to flash bravo_downgrader and then bravo_stock, as it says in alpharev.nl
Do this the same way you tried to flash the unrooted ROM, via 99IMG, the instructions are also in alpharev webpage.
Questions or Problems Should Not Be Posted in the Development Forum
Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to Q&A
Yes, so i needed to apply the downgrade then stock hboot on the alpharev website first. thanks very much. all sorted
OK quick note, i still have a bootloader :S they will surely find this.
I don't understand... of course you have a bootloader, other way you'll have a brick. After applying the stock rom, in the bootloader you should see S-ON
and What do you mean by "they find this?"
flash downgrader (its already stock table), then flash pb99img..
if u flash the stock one (it have downgrade protection, the ruu/pb99img cant overwrite this), ur phone will remain s-off..so just flash downagrader then pb99img
it still says s-off ??
and i mean, they will turn it on and see it has a bootloader, i dont think that comes standard
put this in the root of your SD-Card, with NO OTHER PB99IMG'S!!!
http://alpharev.nl/PB99IMG_downgrade.zip
Update the Hboot.
Then run the RUU PB99IMG you had before. MAKE SURE IT IS THE RUU FOR YOUR NETWORK PROVIDER (UNLESS YOU HAVE AN UNBRANDED PHONE), NOT A WWE RUU, OTHERWISE HTC WILL NOT HONOUR YOUR WARRANTY. OR EXTRACT THE ROM.ZIP FROM THE 2.3.3 RUU

You don't have to flash stock rom from recovery like custom roms or nandroid backups.
Run stock RUU.exe or flash the rom from bootloader if in PG58IMG format if you want to go back to complete stock rom.

You can download RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_233505_signed form HERE

Ok, thanks... Which one of these if any would you recommend? (they seem to be exe files which i dont understand why)
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
see above. Run the RUU exe from pc while phone is plugged with usb cable.
I uploaded it for you. That is the latest stock GB RUU.
Hope it helps
Hit thanks button if it did

Hey mate, maybe u can help me out a little. I need to flash back to stock, vodafone au branded for warrenty purposes. if I used above would I still be rooted and s-off, and can all the Vodafone bloat be flashed afterwards. just weighing if the above link is any easy option then flashing rom, then radio, reverse s off, root, etc etc etc.....etc.?
The link I gave is for stock unbranded WWE (world wide english) RUU. No idea where you can find Vodafone AU, sorry.
Running the RUU.exe will unroot your device but s-off remains. Also it deletes all apps and data.
Conclusion: it will be as out of the box but S-Off.

--I noticed your using advanced ace hack kit. Question- are you renaming the Rom file to "update.zip," and then selecting "install update from zip"???
If so, there s your problem.
Just select "install from zip" instead. Shouldn't matter if the file has been renamed.
Hopefully this is a quick fix for you. Let us know, because if you can get to bootloader and recovery, there is a fix.
Don't be shy to use the thanks button.

--Cheers mate. I found a Vodafone branded RoM. Maybe you can help me before I post a thread in Q&A's, because I'm getting nowhere with it. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Heres whats happening:
Just read this guys post and its exactly to a tee, what is happening with me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575300
haha, you can probably tell im getting a little desperate.
Please answer these questions in order to summarize the situation:
1) are you S-ON or S-OFF?
2) What your bootloader says and what version is is (there is a **locked** on top?)
3) have you tried the hack kit or not?
4) do you have stock recovery or CWM/4EXT?
5) is your phone branded Vodafone or is just your carrier which is Vodafone?
6) what was your original RUU and what RUU did you find. RUU.exe should be run from a computer not flashed by recovery.

Hi, are u asking me? If so here u go.
1- S-OFF. Don't think I'm eng s-off.
2- boot loader reads as follows:
Ace PVT Ship S-off RL
Hboot 0.85.0024
Microphone 0438
Radio 26.10.04.03_m
eMMC-boot
3- advance ace hack kit is how I rooted my device...?
4- clockwork mod recovery touch 5.8
5- Vodafone branded phone originally, with all the crap
6-original ruu unknown? But the rom I can't install is titled:
Ace_Vodafone_AU_1.32.178.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M_BACKUP
Its a zip file which I've tried to install from recovery as a zip(error message 'install aborted')and also restore after extracting to cwm/backup (error message md5 mismatch)
I'm completely lost.
Install 4ext recovery, if I'm not mistaken it has an option to ignore md5 mismatches.
Edit - just checked and it does, its in the recovery settings

Alright, well I installed 4ext, disabled md5 check. All that happened when it restored (finished in only 3secs)was rebooted with a freshly wiped copy of the rom I've been using-cookies & cream ics.
It seems like the file is empty, though I've explored its content and all seems intact. Its about the 5th download of the rom too, so unlikely a bad dl. Someone installed it successfully by deleting nandroid. md5, then using the md5 sum recreate it as md5sum*img > nandroid.md5... Don't know how or what this means
I believe they are talking about this. In the app go to recovery >manage backups. Choose the file then click correct md5 sum

-Alright well I got the md5 sorted, and installed the rom. Now I have a blackscreen... It appears nothing has changed. the green htc letters slowly fade to white lines then to black, thats about it. Still got 4ext so I can restore, but this is a pain in the rectum.
I'm restoring it again and it reads its restoring: boot system data cache. In the process, .android_secure not found...Should be alright?
That should be fine. Not sure why its not working and others got it to work

--I dont know. Will try to download and install again, in the off chance I have "bad install."
Wondering if I could insall the WWE Ruu.exe and then temp root and somehow flash all the vodafone australia crap...I'm just swinging in the dark here.
I thought about that. You won't be able to fully be on your stock firmware but it might be close enough for warranty purposes.
So here is my thinking. Flash the 1.32.405 ruu. Next flash your stock radio that came with your carrier via a pd98. Then root with visionary and use jkoljos easy radio tool to flash back your cid and get back son. Finally unroot with visionary and remove any traces of root like super user. I think that's as close as well be able to get if the nandroid doesn't work

Thanks for ur help mate ... haven't had a chance to try re install of this yet. If it isn't one thing its another, I did Eng s off and now my battery is dieing by like, 1-2% every minute, don't think its associated with Eng s off, but the battery coincidentally nearing its end. Then my charger died.
Alright so ill give it a go and post the outcome. Cheers dude. I think I have the vodafone splash screen downloaded so if so that's a plus

Then the short answer is stop trying to flash it until you go s-off. As far as I understand one limitation of dev unlock is that you can't flash things like radios.

^^^What he said, and you have the file named incorrectly (should be PG321IMG.zip). If you want to flash the firmware, obtain S-OFF first. After obtaining S-OFF, you must place the renamed file onto the sd-card. Make sure fastboot is unchecked under your phone settings. Boot into the bootloader and let it do its thing, then reboot.
