I am planning on upgrading my phone from Samsung Vibrant to Galaxy S II. Currently I have $15 (feature phone) unlimited data plan on AT&T. If I go with S-II, will AT&T detect it as smartphone and change my data plan to one of limited plans?
I am planning on buying T-Mobile version of S-II unlocked and using it on AT&T. please advise.
thank you

i think it will make u charge extra, thats what happen when i upgrade to the tmobile G2 from HD2. not sure how they detect it.
but then again thats tmobile ATT might be different
Were both G2 and HD2 tmobile branded phones?
did you purchase them unlocked on ebay or something?
can anyone else with experience pls confirm this ?
thank you
Never mind misread op lol
no, as long as ur phone isn't att branded
just buy the phone outright, swap in the old SIM card, and you can keep your current plans unchanged
I will buy unlocked phone and check it out...I am very excited about S-II
thank you all very much!

I too did the same and it works just fine. I am curious about my plan though. I still have the unlimited Data plan. I had the Captivate and got an iPhone 4 in trade for something. I switched to it until the Nexus came out.
I had to call AT&T and have them change my plan so that the iPhone would get data. When I got my Nexus I just put the sim in an adapter and have service with Data. Interestingly my phone shows up as a Captivate again at the AT&T website. Anyone familiar with AT&T plans to tell me what plan I should be on now?
Hey all,
Just wondering if anybody knows if I import a 900 from outside the US if I'll be able to keep my $10 unlimited (dumbphone) data plan with AT&T. I'm using that right now with an unlocked Xperia Arc and would like to keep it, so buying an AT&T LTE 900 is not an option. I was thinking about importing from Europe, or getting the Rogers from Canada. Anybody have an idea?
Thanks!
Not likely. The store reps told us when we didnt want data for our daughters phone that based on the IMEI they can tell what kind of phone it is and will automatically add a data plan to your account.
Hi, AT&T keep IMEI database only from the phone with AT&T or Cingular branded. If you use international phone which IMEI doesn't match AT&T database, they won't recognize your smartphone and you are free to use $10 unlimited data (as myself).
The only international phone I knew that won't be able to use $10 data plan is Xperia Arc S (LT28A), but Xperia Arc is fine.

This post is highly misleading. at&t only has certain IMEI codes in it's database. Those are typically for at&t and cingular branded phone. I do not know whether the IMEI for an overseas Lumia 900 is different enough that it won't be recognized.

Not true. AT&T has been known to detect Nexus phones as well as recently they began blocking Nokia N9 users on PayGo. It really is a roll of the dice nowdays.

If you want to take advantage of AT&T's LTE network then you're gonna have to upgrade your sim and your internet plan, which will void your grandfathered $10 unlimited plan.

European version of 900 does not support LTE
I can confirm AT&T will not detect my current Lumia 900 (international) as a smartphone and you can use $10 3G data plan.
AT&T detect my Nexus S (i9020A) which got from local BestBuy store as smart phone, though. Perhaps because Best Buy report my Nexus S to AT&T.
Hi everyone. My Xperia x10 is dying on me so I need a new phone. I saw a galaxy s3 on ncix.com for $100 and locked to the bell carrier. My current plan is with bell and I was wondering if I needed 4G LTE or if my current plan would work. I'm not very active on the forums and any help would be greatly appreciated.
You current plan will work, but you'll need a new micro-sim card.
IIRC, Bell data plans from the past become LTE plans assuming you have the hardware. I may be wrong though.
And the phone won't be that cheap unless you sign a new contract with them (Bell). Otherwise if you really want your old plan, you'll need to buy the phone outright.

I currently own a GT-N7000 Note and am going to upgrade by purchasing a Note II, but I am having some trouble figuring out which exact version to get.
I tried purchasing Galaxy S III once and AT&T refused to unlock the device despite me having paid the full $699 for it. (I ended up having to return it because of this)
I have 4 requirements for the phone but can't figure out what model meets all of them. Any help or suggestions from the community would be greatly appreciated.
1. I will be using the phone on AT&T MVNO's (am currently on RedPocket).
2. I would like to have working LTE (US is 700Mhz Class 17 I believe.
3. I would like to either have the phone come without carrier modifications to the OS and without bloatware, or if that is completely non-existant at the very least have a version of the Note II that will allow me to easily load a stock ROM on it with all features (especially tethering built in), and without any loss of functionality (i.e. I don't want to deal with firmware incompatibility problems like no working LTE radio or instability or the like)
4. I will be using the phone overseas every now and then so it definitely needs to be unlocked.
Thanks guys.

Has anyone ordered from here?
cellgsmphones.com
Supposedly they are shipping the phones straight from Korea and it has 700 band LTE.
If so, did the phone really come with 700Mhz LTE?
The site says the specs/info came from a wiki, so I am guessing it might be all wrong.
Well if you want to use a MVNO of AT&T you wont be getting LTE, They don`t allow it, its ONLY for AT&T Contract and or Prepaid but it does not work on AT&T`s MVNO`s none of them currently.
I say just buy the ATT Note2 and try to get ATT to unlock and if not pay the $25-30 to get the unlock code from; http://www.cellunlocker.net/.
Hyelton is correct, no ATT MVNO has LTE and I read an article that ATT will be bringing LTE to GoPhone but it's at least a year out.
I have a N7100 on an ATT MVNO and I am getting 5-8Mbps down so it's not bad.
Not quite sure why someone would want to pay extra for a Korean version of a phone to use on ATT when you can just buy the ATT version and pay to unlock it cheaper. Unless your trying to get it on a dumb phone plan and are hoping that the Korean Imei never gets blocked.

Its actualy cheaper to buy the N7100 than the AT&T one. AT&T is $699 plus tax. I only Paid about $600 for mine with free shipping and no tax
Anybody who is using the T-Mobile tab s on AT&T I have some questions. Does the T-Mobile version support LTE on AT&T network, does CF Auto Root work on T-Mobile version, where did you obtain the unlock code for use on AT&T or is the tablet unlocked at purchase? I plan to buy either T-Mobile or AT&T variant ASAP. I don't know if the AT&T bootloader is locked down like all of there phones are now if not I would just buy the AT&T one but as of now I own a note edge on contract and dream of root with no sign of it coming anytime soon. Thanks for any input, a fast response would be awesome cause I am itching to go pick one of these up.

Which did you buy?
Ended up wit the 32GB wifi version from bestbuy. If I have it out and about I use my hotspot from my edge. I figured it was a better move than paying $10 a month for two years to add a tablet to my AT&T account, plus I figured lollipop upgrade will come quicker on wifi version. Currently rooted and running iron rom for T800 I like the tab s but don't find myself using it very often with it being more convenient just to pick up my note.
