[Q] Titanium Backup Lost SMS - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I took a full Titanium Backup this morning prior to flashing a new ROM, now with my DHD flashed; I started the process of restoring my app, call log and SMS. All the apps I wanted are now restored, but for some reason I have lost all my SMS!
Can anyone offer some advice on this?
Thanks

cheers for the info dude.
I have just come from a 3.5 to go back to 3.0 (ARHD) i havent had a problem in the past, but now lost them all.
I will now start using SMS Backup, but i just need to work out if TB didnt back them up, or if there is a problem with restoring them.

2.2 OTA .6 wont send MMS messages

I have used both the stock kernel and netarchys 3.7.7c and 3.7.8 Does it matter if im using HandCent? Any suggestions to getting MMS to send or anyone with these problems also?

did you restore your back up with titanium back up? I have heard of people ahving issues with MMS after switching from 2.1 to 2.2 and then doing a full titanuim back upr restore.
I personally have avoided this so by by selecting restore all but then going down the lsit and unchecking 2.1 specific settings/apps (it gtalk_update 2.1 checkin_service2.1 etc etc)
if this sounds like your problem i would reflasha nd restore trying the method above. then reboot phone once and try
I didnt restore anything with titanium. I just downloaded everything off the market again. Any ideas? It says its sending and just goes on enlesly
EDIT: i had installed handcent and deleted the stock messanger that came with the rom. That was a bad idea lol. Reinstalled stock sms/mms program and its all good now

No, use titanium backup for that. Stay away from system settings/data cause it will mess things up.

So titanium to backup and restore before and after flash with rom manager, right?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yes, but also make a nandroid (rom manager backup) for safety before flashing.

Right so backup with both (better safe than sorry), thanx for the input will try it later and let you know how it goes ;-)

I always do a nandroid backup, i think this is the safeest option.
Ya exactly....nandroid is very important.....very safe....

Titanium just backs your apps, fully, with settings & all, so you can restore them when you go from one rom to another. Left my Desire identical to before after installing Leedroid rom: same apps, same settings, wallpaper, shortcuts... Great if you dont want to reinstall & configure apps. But it messed with my Market, obliging me to wipe Market's data & cache from time to time. It is very confusing & I dont know to what degree use it, really.
Nandroid makes a full copy of all your system, and you want to use it when you are not happy with a new rom, or disaster happens, and want to roll back.
So they are meant for different things
Hi,
I'm collecting information about backuping the original rom. I have a brand new Desire and I'd like to root and get some custom rom. Is there any way how to backup my software state for restoring and eventual warranty repairs?
My rom is unavailable everywhere on the Internet. And yes, I did searches but didn't get the full-range answer. Tnx

[Q] Back Up Procedure

Hi guys,
I just started flashing my phone with custom roms and was wondering what the best program is to backup a rom/ just settings, apps and contacts; to save me all the trouble of downloading each app aswell as setting up the settings again.
As im new to this i would really appreciate it if someone could explain how to go about doing all this.
Thanks for all your help.

There are some Market apps that are useful for this - Titanium Backup and MyBackup in particular. I use TB myself and find it excellent. However I think the free version may require you to confirm each time you restore. Worth checking both out - both have free and paid versions available, so try the free ones and see which you like best.
preacher65 is right.
As for backing up your complete ROM i suggest you use CWM recovery, which you used to flash custom ROMs with, to backup your ROM (aka Nandroid). You'll find an option in the recovery for backup, or alternatively you can do it via ROM Manager.
Nice thing about this is that when you flash something and your phone doesnt boot, you can just go into recovery and choose 'Backup and Restore'>'Advance Restore' and choose only a certain part(.img file) of the backup to restore.
Thanks for the quick replies.
Also i was wondering if i was to back my settings nd apps nd contacts from a RCMIX3D KINGDOM ROM and restore it on a LeeDroid ROM or any other custom rom, is it possible to do this or will there be a problem because of the 2 different roms?

There are mixed opinions on this, so this is based on my experience.
I think Contacts should be fine, as they're pretty much a standard format from ROM to ROM (someone will correct that if I'm wrong, I'm sure - I use Google contacts so mine are always synced).
User apps should be okay to restore, at least if you just choose to restore the app only - it's recommended to only restore data for apps selectively, when you really need to. Don't restore any system apps across different ROMs, though.
And phone settings are likely to be incompatible, as the two ROMs have a different HTC base (0.81.651.0 for Kingdom, 2.36.405.8 for Leedroid).

Google should take care of your Apps and Contacts for you.
Thanks, also does titanium backup phone settings aswell??
Nd if i to restore a bsckup to a newer version of the same rom e.g from 0.2 RCMixKingdom ROM to 1.2 RCMixKingdom ROM; would da backup effect anything ?

[Q] Cyanogen 7.1 and HTC Sence

Hello, I have HTC Desire HD. I rooted the phone with Ace Hack Kit and installed Cyanogen on the phone. I have a few questions:
1. I did a rom backup with all my apps installed with ROM manager just before I did the install. Then I did the factory erase and did a rom backup again saving it under a different name. My question is when you do a rom backup does it backups everything such as your apps, messages in inbox...
2. On HTC I had HTC sence so If I lose my phone I would be able to trace it and lock it or erase it. Can I install this on Cyanogen?
3. I had some messages in inbox, but they didnt come back when I synhronized. I was wondering if they are stored somewhere in the rom backup and if I can extract them back or I can just install the rom backup?
Thank you all for help
1. Do not know about the sms/mms, but it backs up everything apps ect, and you will find those in clockwork recovery / restore / advanced restore / system /data (i think)
2. Go to the market and install Cerberus, its classed as a free app but it does ask for a 2euro donation to unlock all features, which is the cheapest app on the market for what it offers you in protection with out any monthly fees ect.
3. Text messages are not synced with google servers, if they are stored on the backup i dont know what they would be under maybe someone else can help you out with that one, but imo they are only text messages, im pretty sure it wont be long before someone else texts you again. (You could always in the future use smsbackup and just make a backup before you flash a new rom again)
Try titanium to back everything

in the first question, I think it will restore the whole things such as the ROM

[Q] Coredroid to IceColdSandwitch

Hi,
I had just updated my DHD rom from Coredroid 9.4 to the new IceColdSandwitch with the ICS android.
anyway, before i did that i backed up the SMS messages using titanium backup, but when I restored them, it didn't really restore them (even though the process went smoothly). Not even after a reboot.
Is the anyway of 'extracting' the backup files of the SMS messages and manually move them to where they are suppose to be in the ICS android ?
thanks,
shachar

check if your "[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage" is the same version as the coredroid.
*edit*
i just checked, its not the same version obviously, coredroid is on ginger.... perhaps if you have a nandroid of the coredroid, try to backup using "sms backup & restore" app and restore it on your new ics...
Or reflash Coredroid, restore your SMS, then back them up again using the app mentioned above and restore to ICS with the same app.
