If you have it, what did you like about it? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just trying to break from all the negativity that's surrounding this forum, I actually would like to know what people liked about it?
ICS?
Design?
It could be anything, I guess majority had a phone before it, how did the experience change? What were you doing before, that you are now doing differently? stuff like that...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358661

OK... im not going to compare it to other phones so:
great screen
feels sturdy and, in my opinion, well built
camera shutter speed
ICS
Great GPS
Great call quality
Fantastic Audio (including equalise) although im no formal audiophile
did I mention the great screen ?

ICS is just beautiful. Little things like the transition animations when opening and closing apps and the transparency effects seen in the browser and all over the O/S make for a really polished, highly visual experience, something that android has so far been lacking in.
The screen is awesome. I can't see a major step up from this in terms of display quality and size in a while. Obvious next step is samoled +, but imo the difference will be marginal compared to the difference between sgs2 screen and this.
I personaly think it's the best looking phone out there. Clean unbroken glass with a subtle curve. No buttons or logos in sight. The finish on the plastics is much classier than on sgs2 too. And it's amazing to hold, it just melts into your palm.

Quick fluid interface. Signifcantly improved ui thats far more intuitive to use.
Gingerbread, froyo whatever... android was getting a bit stale. 4.0 just feels great and new.
The galaxy nexus has a great screen... the finish on the glass looks beautiful. Overall case is well made and doesnt look tacky... like the galaxy s or s2 does. It also feels very solid unlike other samsungs.
Maybe not the fastest cpu but the smoothest android phone there is imo. The hardware accelerated ui feels faster and smoother than previous android phones
.
Shame about the volume issue because this is the best android experience so far.

Gotta agree with the comments about the design - feels really great in the hand. Nice materials. Sturdy.
And ICS is a real joy to use. SO much better than GB

Has anyone noticed how the edges of the screen tapers in to the body? There is a slight curve to the taper compared to the more angular tapering on the gs2. Looks really classy, especially when you see light reflect off it.

The subtle curve of the screen, the size and quality of the display and the weight of the device truely make it a classy item.

Great idea for a thread - for all the problems, it's still an amazing device.
- Stunning screen. Amazingly sharp, and I continue to be amazed by the size when I go fullscreen in the YouTube app.
- Quick. The UI acceleration isn't perfect IMO (still get "jerkiness" when a live wallpaper is applied, for example), but that's minor. Fact is, the CPU gets the job done, and FAST.
- Build quality is very, very nice. Coming from a Galaxy S it's a really nice step up. The S wasn't poorly built - it took its fair share of drops and knocks - but it did feel a bit cheap. The Nexus just feels solid. No creaks or flex in the bezel, the backplate is nice to the touch, and the front is simply beautiful. It's lovely to hold.
- ICS is a total breath of fresh air. It's just a wonderful new interface, and in no small part to the new Roboto font.
- Live video effects! Haha. I know it's a childish thing, but you can have SO much fun with them with your friends (it's especially great that they work through the front cam too). The Big Eyes effect never gets old.

HTC ONE X...What do you love most about this phone....

Here we go....
There is a lot of people that bought HTC ONE X but many threads here are opened due to the problems they are experiencing. There is also a few people who are holding back from buying the new HTC beast due to this problems.
Now my question is to all the happy owners of the ONE X what do you love most about your new phone.
Is it the HD screen? Is it the Tegra 3 processor? Is it the polycarbonate body or something else. What is your best experience with the phone so far?
Let us share What we like about the new successor from HTC so people that haven't decided yet can think again.
Sense 4 trumps TouchWiz and I like the fact they have simpled it down.
Build quality.
Screen, HD videos look crisp, text looks sharp.
I'll add more later when I've had a proper play.

The SCREEEEEEEEEEN. ANd pretty much everything else.
I've come from a barely-functional HTC Desire, so using this phone feels like I have jumped into the future somehow

Build quality is amazing yes. I do agree with Nikz. Touchwiz comes way behind to Sense..Sense is a godsend and pure awesome.
It is just a beautiful phone to have and to be honest do not regret getting it. And once i learn how to root it and start flashing roms this phone will be a beast
Everything except Sense but like usual, there will be roms out there with stripped sense roms or aosp roms
Most of all i love the camera
This honestly makes the compact camera unessesary
Intil the phone os released, it's difficult to actually point out what we like about the phone.

First of all problems aside. None. Apart from it does some weird flickering when browsing or on camera rarely. Anyway I love the screen. Love the keyboard. Love the camera. Love the speed. Love the material its made from. Love the new sense. Looks sooo mate compared to the old one. Typed this with the HTC one
Build, design, UI, camera, ics, keyboard, hd very good compared to any other handset.
Nice idea to balance out the various "issues" threads!
For me, so far it has to be the screen - just amazing! Also, coming from the Desire, was worried the One X would seem huge. Thanks to the great styling and build quality, it strangely doesn't seem that much bigger.
build quality is extremely high...
the back of the polycarbonate is so smooth it is smoother than the skin of your girlfriends!
micro drilled holes cannot be felt despite seeing it with your eyes..
the phone build just screams premium!
... ... ...
Great Build Quality
Great Camera
Awesome Display
Awesome Game Performance
Good sound output
Good HTC based widgets (Not all of them)
It's truly an amazing device... Ignore the troll you see ... People tend to scrutinize a minor problem into a whole lot bigger. Trust me it worth every penny I send on this device. It makes me happy that all it matters
Screen is super sharp, real threat to other company's.
The body feels premium and feels great in hand propebly not the same as my girlfriends skin but close
Camera super fast I hope they keep up with that technology.
Sense is improved a lot too.
There will not be much new tech coming in to the upcoming phones from other companys.
HTC did a sucsessor here.
Build is nice, 4.7 inch and still fits in my jeans without any problems.
The overall speed of the phone...it takes longer time to say "sigh" than installing a big game or a big app.
Lightweight, my previous 4.3 inch HTC is alot heavier.
Camera is outstanding, especially the burst mode, almost sounds like a DSLR.
Screen is outstanding quality.
Smooth gaming, tried a few Tegra 2 games.
Sense is very smooth. I still miss some functions from sense 3.5. (Quick launch menu)
And one thing I like in general about HTC phones is you get a screen and nothing else.
If you look at a Samsung (SGS2, Nexus) for an example, you'd get a ton platic around the screen that makes it look big but nothing else and probably won't fit in your pocket.
Good job
...and hey...it isn't just expensive...you get alot for the money.
The camera. Simply incredible from first test.
What I love
The most obvious thing about the One X is its screen. It is truly gorgeous - I could just stare at the home screen all day. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was the brightness of the screen.
Sense 4.0 is really good. I know a lot of people really dislike all skins (and I do tend to agree with them) but I do think that sense brings some good features to the table without getting in the way of ICS.
Power - everything runs so quickly and smoothly. It can handle anything I can throw at it.
Build quality - I don't know how sturdy the device is but it certainly feels premium with the matte unibody and the precision laser drilled holes. I get the feeling it can be dropped without too many problems (not that I'm going to test that).
Camera - I haven't tested it properly but I can tell you it takes pictures very quickly
As others have said, its:-
Screen - the best HD phone screen I've used.
Build - manages to combine solidity with design flair (its like a solid Arc )
Camera - massive improvement on previous HTC efforts imo - took some great family shots yesterday.
in that order as the things I'm most impressed with.
I actually quite like Sense too and now I've reduced the number of Screens and Widgets I use, its a lot smoother.
Phone feels fantastic in the hand - completely different league to the plastics of the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus I owned previously.
If HTC continues to produce phones with this quality throughout the whole 2012 year I think its going to be the biggest threat to companys like Samsung, Apple, LG, Motorola etc etc

Because the GS3 is that good

This morning I had a iPhone 4s, a Motorola Razr Maxx, and a Bionic at my desk. Here's my thoughts...
Motorola phones at this point need to be left out of this conversation because they're hideous next to the GS3, i4s, and pretty much any other newer high end smartphone. The screens are ugly, the UI stinks (although better with ICS), and they just don't look very good. Can you say larger than life bezels?
The i4s' screen next to the GS3 does look a lot sharper but that's because I was holding them so close. I mean the GS3 looked down right fuzzy. After backing them away from my face the GS3 came into focus and that advantage was gone. Iphone screens are so small that you need to hold them up to your face (12 inches or so). Anyway, it was fun using both at the same time. Both were fast although the GS3 was faster in most cases. Just slightly. The i4s did have smoother transitions overall, so they get the points for that. I'm hoping JB brings the GS3 that same level of smoothness because if so Apple needs to watch out, as the one advantage that iOS has over android will soon be gone. All I know is that both devices are fantastic and it's obvious now that they're both totally different when used side by side. It's as though Samsung was trying to avoid any legal issues if you know what I'm saying (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). It's a great time to love gadgets.
After using my GS3 for a few weeks there's really only a few small things I would change about it. This new version of Touchwiz is actually pretty nice. The transitions look cool and it overall feels very clean. There are times when the animations get glitchy and lag on the home screen but I'm looking past that in hopes that it's cleared up with JB. I also really like the dialer until you end a call, then it just sits there. Why Samsung, why? The other thing I would change is the battery cover. Why couldn't they have made the back feel nicer like all of the cool third party ones we're seeing from Hong Kong.
Yeah I wish our screen was a bit sharper, I can't deal with a 3.5" screen. My hands are to big for that.

GS4 First impressions (unbiased, I hope)

I would like to preface this with a couple of items:
1. I have owned these Samsung mobiledevices:
Vibrant
GS 2
GS 3
GN 2
N 10
So it IS fair to say that I have a preference for Samsung devices
2. My unit, mfg date 5/11 ...does not seem to suffer from some of the screen issues that others are having. As for overheating... my GS 3 and GN 2 get blisteringly hot when running 3D intensive games. That, is a reality of mobile gaming... that much computing power in such a small, passively cooled form factor is a recipe for poor heat dissipation. Thus, I do not find the GS 4 to be any different (neither a step back nor an improvement in heat dissipation.)
Those caveats aside, here are my initial impressions:
1. Aesthetically speaking, this is the closest in form to an iPhone that I have perceived a galaxy device to be. Does it bother me...not particularly, but it does give credence to those who bemoan "copy cat" and others who say that the galaxy design ethos is a bit... "tired".
2. Remaining on aesthetics for a moment, which is a very subjective matter....mind you, the GS 4 does not hold a candle to the HTC one. In my opinion, one is a ground-up rethink of mobile design with "form" being a primary emphasis... the other a simple continuation of a design that has met with success in the market. While the GS 4 is not ugly... the HTC One IS stunning. I tip my cap to HTC... (and to some extent sony), and hope that it will push Mobile Divisions to approach future design, with part ruler and part brush.
3. Durability: Now I don't have the stones to just drop my phone; nor has my ownership period been long enough to rebuke anyone else...but the device feels surprisingly sturdy in my hands. Reading some of the comments on the board... and coming from the Brick that is the GN 2 (which survived several falls unscathed), I expected the GS 4 to be a porcelain doll. Frail and fragile to the touch. Not the case. It is clearly lighter than the GS 3 and slimmer as well, but it does not feel like it was done to so at the expense of durability. Now I know that there are plenty of comments and reviews that dispute this... but, in MY hands, some of the initial concern that was raised by all reports has been dispelled. I hope (keyword) that the hairline fractures some have experienced are a mfg anomaly and not a design flaw.
4. Smart gestures: I am one, who truly thinks that this could be a revolution in mobile technology...and I admire what Sammy is trying to accomplish here. But (you knew one was coming), the current implementation just feels not-ready-for-primetime. The gestures do not respond as intended all the time... and sometimes they just flat out don't work. When they do... it is impressive, and is a window in the future of interaction with technology. Given time, I think samsung will iron the kinks out.... I just don't think we will see that on the GS 4.
5. UI: Touchwiz is a love or hate proposition for many... personally, I tend to use some functions and replace others. That being said, whether its smart gesture integration, poor coding or loads of bloatware...sammy dropped the ball here. The UI feels clunky and gimmiky... and lags on hardware that should easily breeze through transitions, screen renders and app launches. You can literally feel the Snapdragon chomping on the bit... being restrained by a poorly designed UI. This to me, was the largest disappointment. Not because I don't think I can fix with kernel and Rom installations... but rather because I was so impressed with how far touchwiz had come on my GN2. This feels like a huge step back... with stutters and judder reminiscent of my Vibrant. For me aesthetics are a luxury... but function is a necessity. Multi-window does feel much smoother in this implementation...so there is that, but still, for shame sammy (don't take 1 step back for every 2 forward). Again, our community will most certainly solve these issues... but it should not exist out of the box for premium hardware.
6. Camera: Very simply, impressive. Will it replace your D9...or any nice DSLR? No. Does it take sharp photos, with a bevy of adjustments, filters and post processing perks? Yes. Can it serve as an everyday shooter? Absolutely. Crisp photos, quick autofocus and no shutter lag make it a joy to snap shots with. Low light performance does lag behind some other phones (notably Nokia and HTC)... but I find this to be the only shortcoming.
7. GPS: It works. Well. I will never....ever.... ever...forget the vibrant debacle. It is the first thing I check on all my TMO samsung devices
8. Display: I left this for last... because, really if you didn't read anything else (TL;DR) then know this: the display ALONE is worth the price of admission. Maybe I have been conditioned as such... but when it comes to mobile devices give me the deep blacks of AMOLED over LCD. Furthermore, sammy had learned a bit from the community, and toned down some of the intrinsic oversaturation. The clarity, rendering and overall visual candy of the 1080x1920 Super AMOLDED is OUTSTANDING. Apple, HTC, LG all make excellent flagship phones... this is reality. No one touches the display technology of Samsung, yet... this is fact. The pixel density allows for the obliteration of any aliasing due to the pentile arrangement. It is jaw-dropping. For those who have gotten a device with screen issues... I wouldn't wait, return it and return it and return it until you get one that is perfect, because it is well worth the hassle.
Conclusion:
Is the Galaxy design, tired and in need of a refresh...probably. Is the HTC One the "prettiest" device on the market... certainly. Did touchwiz initially sour my excitement...definitely. However, those who compare the GS3 to GS4 evolution to the iPhone X to iPhone Xs tract... neither know android nor samsung hardware. Though the design is not a complete or even partial refresh (though I love the way the GS4 feels in my hand as compared to the GS3 and even my GN2) this phone is clearly the next step forward in Samsungs continued mobile presence. The hardware is top notch and only slightly fettered by TW. The display is stunning and the camera and accompanying software a leap forward from both the GN2 and GS3. The continued dedication to sd card expansion and removable batteries should not be underscored.
Perhaps the GN3 or the next GS will feature an aesthetic redesign befitting the hardware inside... and if that is of the utmost importance, than by all means you can wait. Or buy the One, (which in my time with, I did truly enjoy...). But...
If you are eligible for the upgrade... or have some coin kicking around, I can say with all confidence that Galaxy S4 is a top flight device... and quite possibly the best available on the market today.
Nice review Poser. I too have had an GS2, GS3, GN2 and now GS4. I feel you have hit it right on the head. TW is disappointing and the hardware isn't very exciting (except cam). But the device is top notch and Sammy did a good job overall. I came from VZW to Tmobs because of Wifi call/text. Such a great feature!!!
I just got a s4. My old phone was the s3. The phone is great but heres my view on it. It is no different than the s3 except it is faster cpu wise and has a higher res screen. If u had an s3 next to an s4 (like i do) and played around with both of them you would think its the same phone. Some of the features are pointless on the s4. Like air guestures (in my opinion). They are novelties. Why wave my hand 3 inches above the screen to scroll through pictures when i could simply just lower my finger 3 inches and swipe through my pics? All and all it is the fastest phone out and im happy i got it. But if i was goin to keep my s3 though, there wouldnt be much differance.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
As much as some people despise TouchWiz and the Samsung Apps that are preloaded, I actually like using some of the features.
I think, so far, my favorite is the Air Hover where I can preview emails.
Nice op. I had the S3 on Sprint, which was a great device as long as I was on Wifi. So far I have been very happy with the S4 on T Mobile. All the pros as noted above, plus an affordable data plan with excellent coverage for my areas. The wifi calling feature is simply awesome and all carriers should have this technology built in. As far as touchwiz goes, I find it to be functionally quite similar to vanilla android, meaning the basic functions work the same way. For example, adding widgets or adding a shortcut to the dock is done easily (as opposed to how the latest Sense does it). The esthetics are a different matter but are easily altered. Lag is zero with some basic tweaks.
Very well worded essay, Poser. My thanks for addressing aspects of the phone that are important to me (how well the GPS works in particular, which few people seem to comment on). I too hope (and expect) that the reports of screen cracks are an indication of defective samples and not a design flaw. I find it hard to believe that the design would not have been subject to a battery of stress tests.
I spent some time looking at and handling the phone at Best Buy, and I liked how it felt in my hand. That experience makes me dismiss comments about the plastic construction. Seeing the phone up close and personal also showed me just how gorgeous the display is (it truly is eye candy), and thanks for emphasizing this point.
Some additional thoughts:
1. Wifi calling is exceptional when it works flawlessly... I have noticed that it does experience voice dropouts, call answering issues and connecting issues. This was a problem that was present in my S3 GN2 and S4, and does seem to be software propigated (independent of access point).
2. Disabling smart gestures and home key activation of S Voice... SIGNIFICANTLY reduces lag
3. The screen is Amazing. I cant say this enough,
Coming form sgsii
While rebooting, flashing roms, running ANY benchmark, taking video, or browsing the web the phone compared to my SGSII gets way hotter than i would have ever imagined. maybe it is just my phone, however i cant get a stable overclock at all. my MAX stable OC is 1999mhz..... really? that's just a 100mhz overhead from stock........ a 5.2% increase in speed is all i can get.......... in contrast my SGSII i was able to get 300mhz out of it (25% increase in speed) and it would run cooler than this phone on stock.....
however at stock speeds the SGS4 is snappy, lag free, FAST, comfortable to hold, poor battery life, bright screen, alright overall
7 out of 10 is what i give MY phone. as it did meet my personal expectations. I was hoping for 2.2ghz cpu stable 550mhz gpu and then i could see it getting as hot as it is now. i guess i just got a poor OC phone
I'm thinking about shorting the circuit board while it is on, and if that doesn't work, i will hook up usb cable to straight 120VAC wall current and see if it explodes. at least i would get a different phone....
overall disappointed in the phone i got, however the phone itself, like most Samsung products is GREAT!

Well, IIRC the GS2 only had a dual core CPU clocked around 1.2-1.5GHz, so to be fair you can expect the GS2 to be cooler and more stable since the stock speed is lower and less cores.

great review OP, thanks!

switch my 6p for the 10

Anyone done this ?
Been offered a swap for my 6p,
I'm relatively happy with the 6p apart from the crappy battery and most Devs moving onto the pixel.
How good is the camera in comparison and video?
nope performance is not faster than 6P.
camera cant beat 6p.

Lol
If you are used to Nexus devices better switch to Pixel.
Tbh Ive used a lot of phones and the pictures and videos Ive made with them in the last years are all good.
If you want outstanding picture or video quality you have to use a DSLR or Video Camera.
But I would send that ugly brick called 6p to hell and use anything but it.
I'm gonna copy my experience I wrote this morning from another thread:
- Design and Build Quality:
The design is better on the HTC 10. It feels great in your hands, and it's a really solid little tank, seeming to be way more robust than the 6P. The 6P was well built, but I wouldn't say it was top notch (gaps between display glass and frame, camera visor, etc.) - Whereas I would consider the HTC 10 to be one of the best built phones I ever held in my hands. Really. Worth to note are the fantastic buttons and their Layout, which wasn't great on the 6P. Also, the size is simply perfect for my hands. I don't miss the size of the 6P, the HTC feels especially better in one hand and never feels too small to me. By the way:
<- This is straight Nokia 3310 quality and it definitely feels like that.
- Display:
Where I was the most sceptical about was the Display. I sweared to me to never buy a phone without an AMOLED display again, since the black levels on my last iPhone 6 and f.e. one of my older HTC M7 were straight horrible. Light grey, to be precise. And I just can't stand that. I gotta say, that I'm still insanely surprised about the HTC 10s display. You would almost think that it has actually an AMOLED display since the colors pop and shine. It's not as unnatural as the 6Ps display, I would say it's overall more appealing than the AMOLED one (what I didn't expect at all). Also the black levels: in darker rooms, they seem to be dark grey, which is fantastic. You won't notice the not-black-to-black-bezel until you really focus on it.
- Sound Quality:
The 6P was (especially with some EX tweaking) way, way louder while the HTC 10 is clearer and sounds more 'full' and also warmer, especially in near field, f.e. while laying in bed and watching videos our listening to music. But when you want to fill a bigger room or want to 'party' outside, you definitely need some Bluetooth speakers - it was possible with the 6Ps volume, tho.
- Camera:
The app is without a doubt so much better than the Google camera. The auto point and shoot mode isnt nearly as good as the 6Ps (I miss the Auto HDR mode in darker situations that made photos so much noiseless), but with at least some easy tweaking (EV), you get some great quality photos that CAN come out way better and more interesting than out of the 6Ps camera. Not to mention the fantastic manual mode... Oh boy! OIS on both cameras is a great thing, and the selfie camera also is a great to have thing, since it is really, really good.
- Battery life:
Yes, the battery life... I was surprised, but I can also assure you that it was and is - out of the box - so much better than the Nexus 6Ps. I still can't find out why, but the 6P gave me like ~3h SOT at max, even with some Kernel tweaking. With the HTC 10, I get like 4-5h at least, and I never had problems to get through 2 busy days. I am sure that their is some more potential, when you notice some people in the Battery Life Thread having more than 7h SOT. That was the biggest Wow factor and surprise to me.
- OS:
Hell, I don't miss stock Android. Not. A. Little. I would go even further and say that HTC did the best interpretation of Android with their Sense UI so far. It feels like stock Android in every way, but the feature set is so much better, you honestly need to experience it. Camera app, Display settings, Sound tweaking, Display gestures, Night light, some great HTC Widgets and Apps (which you won't even notice if you don't use them), etc. etc. It's just really well thought and implemented, and I gotta salute HTC for doing such a great job of adding features while maintaining the stock Android feeling. Did I mention the performance is also incredible and better (yes, better) than the 6Ps? It just feels more fluid and quick when you actually use it. In every situation. The 6P sadly had some let downs, not bad, but they occured sometimes. Maybe due to the SD810.
If you want to know anything else, just tell me.
All in all, it was definitely worth it. At least to me. I owned 3 Nexus devices so far: Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5 and Nexus 6P. I don't regret it a single day. Considering the price of about 400€ for a HTC 10 and the disaster the Pixel actually is (Price, Design - Seriously, it looks like a fat plastic phone for 9 years olds), I can just recommend the same for you. If you want to mod, you can mod easily, but once again, I didn't even root the 10 and it still is an amazing phone, since it's truely feature rich. It has no true weaknesses, unlike the Nexus 6P. It feels way better and more safe in your hand, unlike the 6P. It's way more solid and simply a beauty.
You can't go wrong with it. But it really depends on what you actually want to do with and expect from your phone.
Oh, and switching over to the 10 is fine. Sense UI looks and feels like Android, even more, it feels like what (Stock) Android should really be. The tweaks and features HTC implemented are great. And again: if you want it like stock Android, you can have it like stock Android - just don't use the (hidden) HTC stuff. This might be the only thing you will regret tho. :d

mini review

I thought I would do a quick review after using the tab S4 for a couple of days
Design: very very nice. When you first hold it it screams premium. It has a nice heft to it without it being too heavy.
The back is a fingerprint magnet but I have a case so doesn't bother me.
Display: gorgeous display. You won't be disappointed.
Performance: very good. Like most will say I wish they went with 6gb of ram. But everything feels snappy and smooth.
Battery: too early to tell but it's lasted a whole day with heavy use so far.
Speakers: there good and loud and great for watching films etc. But the lack of bass is disappointing when listening to music.
Software: I've never been the biggest fan of Samsung software but they do add some good features and functionality especially on a tablet. It still feels a little bloated and bogged down so I'm looking forward to seeing root on this tablet to debloat it, I think we can still get this thing even smoother and snappier
Camera: I don't really use cameras on a tablet but there ok and will get the job done
S pen: amazing . I love using it and it's very accurate
Annoyances: my main annoyance is the iris scanner. For me it fails to work a lot more than does. I'm not sure if my screen protector is effecting it a little bit, maybe covering it slightly but Its been awful for me so far.
Also the old portrait / landscape inconsistencies with apps crops up sometimes but this is an android issue.
Overall an awesome tablet and the best Android tablet you can buy.
