I want to access the debug settings in the default SE browser that's installed on my rooted Arc S but about:debug doesn't seem to do anything for me. I'm running 2.3.4 and the latest SE build (4.0.2.A.0.42).
I actually want to change the User-Agent string as an experiment as one site (http://www.guardian.co.uk) resolves to m.guardian.co.uk automatically and then displays as text (raw HTML) for some reason and I'm trying to work out why.
You do know you have to goto Settings in the browser after entering about:debug in the address bar right?
Works for me. UA String is at the bottom of the settings list

I got it working but had to kill the browser process first else the debug options didn't appear.

Guys
Recently I've noticed that links in emails etc open in Internet Explorer as opposed to Opera. I'm running stock ROM, unbranded TP2 and have not altered any setting knowingly pertaining to the browser. Anyone got any ideas? I hate IE with a passion and dont want to see it anywhere?!
Update - Solution was setting the mime type handlers in registry to \windows\OperalL.exe %1
Did this for http and https.
Where can i find that registry.
Can you please be more clear
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\urlfile\Shell\Open\Command
Change to value to \windows\OperalL.exe %1
Negative - that didn't work.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
navigate to http, Shell, Open, Command
set Default key to \windows\OperaL.exe
Repeated the above for https key.

Funny, my method did the trick for me, on my TP2 the http and https keys were already set to opera....
occasionally the built in keyboard shows me a different than expected keyboard. For example, durring txt messages, it would show the phone keypad "with the 1-9, P, w keys" or it would show the internet one "with .com button". I tryed looking through the registry for it, but its a mess tryn to find the key that was changed. i have the touch input v2.0 (build 35555) on the AT&T rom.
If anyone else has had this problem and knows how to solve it, the help would be amazing.
p.s. on my previous phone, I had the VITO Zoomboard, but i like the way this new keyboard is in how it changes..but not when it changes to something that isn't appropriate for the given event
Did you install the classic word completion or word correction cab? If so,

When enabling Classic Word Correction, Opera users may experience an issue in which the soft keyboard gets stuck in web or numeric mode. To avoid/correct this, click on the web page instead of the address bar before exiting Opera.

I installed the disable xt9 file which changes registry values?
Just now I used the resco registry explorer to extract my reg files and found which keys changed:
=== normal keyboard ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000000
=== web keyboard ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000006
=== numeric keypad ===
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9\Ime]
"CurrentET9Style"=dword:00000006
now I gata find a program which will make an exe or lnk to change that value of the reg
I have the exact same issue. The phone seems to get stuck on the number keypad with the W and P and will not go back to the full qwerty.
Soft resets do nothing to reset keyboard. I did the following edits to get word suggestion:
Go to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\layouts\e001 0409
Edit: Ime File = \Windows\compime.dll
Layout Text = COMP IME
Go to: HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9
Edit: XT9SupportMSSip= 0
Otherwise I have done no registry edits except removing proxy info for Opera to get it to work on Rogers.
This is most annoying so any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I have tried using opera page before exiting but it still comes up as a number pad.
Applies to any HTC Touch Input 2.0 keyboard

Thanks for this ... you really helped me save a lot of time!
I find that it will also flip to this input style when trying to add a contact. Once it does this I then have to go and start opera, touch the address bar and the input changes back to qwerty. Then I can exit opera. Its kind of a pain but at least I know of the work around.
thanks for the opera info - I did not install any completion cab, but this did fix my keyboard issue.
I just got this problem today. I have yet to be able to change it back.
I can tell you that this occurred in the Windows Edit Contacts menu (that is to say, go to HTC's "Edit Contacts" and select "More").
At first it gave me a simple numbers and arrow keys only keypad. I soft reset and it changed nothing. I then decided to retrace my steps to try to fix it, so I went back to the edit contacts screen and fiddled around, very shortly it switched to the keyboard as described by the OP. Numeric keys, parenthesis, a 'P' and a 'W', etc... stuff used in phone numbers, I suppose. I haven't been able to get it back to a full keyboard, yet. I've messed around with the keyboard options, switched to and back from other keyboard choices and got nothing.
Anyone else want to investigate this further with us?

Same problem for me, so I did the Opera method.
It definitely originated (for me) in "edit contacts".
I used the stock Opera (9?). I did try to just tap the google search bar with no luck.
Just click on the address bar after you start the browser and it will allow you to switch.

Does anybody know how to change the default browser on the TP2, so that Internet Explorer is always launched instead of Opera? This would mean the internet tab on Sense, links in emails, etc.
I assume it is some registry changes? I hope somebody can help!
Thanks.

It's easy to set IE as default for links. Go to Tools->Options->Other. Check the box to tell warn you if IE is not default browser. Next time you start IE, it will give you the option to set as default browser.
That said, I can't find a way to make Opera the default browser. I had set IE as default. IE is buggy and cumbersom. I would like to set Operal back as default, or be able switch them back and forth depending on what I'm doing.
Any one know how to do this?

Silly me. There is another post detailing how to set Opera as default. The only thing missing is the phone needs a reboot before it takes affect:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590330&highlight=default+browser
Hello, I've recently installed Oxygen 1.0 and it's a good ROM, but there's only one thing which is bugging me.. And that is the Stock Browser.
When I was using HTC Sense based ROM (AuraxTSense 8.0), there was the option to have the browser in Mobile View, or what I'm guessing to be "Normal view", the view we see on computers.
I cannot find the option any where on the Stock Browser, probably because it isn't there, so I'm wondering, is there a way to mod the Stock Browser to put the "Normal View" in, or is there a way to port HTC's browser to Oxygen's ROM?
Cheers
I don't have my phone around me but have you tried typing "about:debug" in the address bar and then searching in settings for something like "agent" or "view~" I can't really recall what it was, but once you are in settings with the debug option, I think you will find which option it is.
I'm actually going to mount you, worked like a charm! Took about 2 mins to wonder why nothing was popping up though.
For future reference if anyone else needs this:
Type about:debug in to browser
Press search
Press menu
Press more
Go to settings
Scroll down to UAString
Choose iPhone, Android or Desktop.
Desktop will give you no mobile view, obviously.
Hi,
I'm very, very impressed with my Galaxy Nexus and it's a superb phone.
However, as you've probably noticed, text prediction doesn't currently work in the browser and it's somewhat annoying.
Is there are workaround for this, or do we need to wait for an update?
I think it depends on the website however it is very annoying. It will still pick up spelling mistakes AFTER you've typed the word. The lack of automatic punctuation is annoying as well. Eg instead of I've it'll type it without the apostrophe.
I've tried toggling the auto correct settings but this doesn't do anything.

I use a different keyboard and it still does it when I type into the address bar. It is annoying but I think it is because if you want to type something custom into the address bar. Using the search box on a website puts it back to prediction though.
normal. Even with gingerbread and donut there was never text prediction in the browser

I'm almost positive text correction did work in the gingerbread browser. I too noticed it no longer works in the browser on ICE. Very frustrating.

Yes there was.
text prediction was never enabled in the browser search bar in gingerbread. Maybe it was enabled in other text boxes in the browser but not in the search box.
i would think itd be better without it because of how many website names or paths dont actually use real words, might be a pain in the ass always having it auto correct

that's exactly the reason why it isn't enabled.
Its not just the address bar, but also text and memo fields where text prediction isn't enabled.

OK then that should be fixed.
It's only because most people would prefer if auto-correct didn't screw up their website address bar typing.
If the browser address bar had text prediction it would drive me crazy...
Most of you are missing the point. For the address bar this makes sense, for text fields on websites and text boxes on forums it does not.
It's annoying.
It's a bug, and it's fixed in 4.0.3 (albeit at the cost of some very laggy typing).
