Stock Browser Webpage View - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I've recently installed Oxygen 1.0 and it's a good ROM, but there's only one thing which is bugging me.. And that is the Stock Browser.
When I was using HTC Sense based ROM (AuraxTSense 8.0), there was the option to have the browser in Mobile View, or what I'm guessing to be "Normal view", the view we see on computers.
I cannot find the option any where on the Stock Browser, probably because it isn't there, so I'm wondering, is there a way to mod the Stock Browser to put the "Normal View" in, or is there a way to port HTC's browser to Oxygen's ROM?
Cheers

I don't have my phone around me but have you tried typing "about:debug" in the address bar and then searching in settings for something like "agent" or "view~" I can't really recall what it was, but once you are in settings with the debug option, I think you will find which option it is.

I'm actually going to mount you, worked like a charm! Took about 2 mins to wonder why nothing was popping up though.
For future reference if anyone else needs this:
Type about:debug in to browser
Press search
Press menu
Press more
Go to settings
Scroll down to UAString
Choose iPhone, Android or Desktop.
Desktop will give you no mobile view, obviously.

how to fix T-mobile Tp2 opening IE instead of Opera?

if you navigate to the "internet" tab in touchflo and click "launch browser" touchflo opens up Internet explorer instead of Opera.
now, the odd thing is Opera is still installed on the device. but can anyone tell me how to revert it back to the way it should be? IE is just horrendous.
BTW, i know i've seen it elsewhere. but where do i make the change so the weather is correct in the calender?

I would also love to know. Plus how to get push internet pages.
Have you tried this typing Opera:config into the address bar, and then selecting the option to make it the default browser?

Thanks for the config tip. I tried this a few times but Opera never seems to save the settings after I exit. I make the change, save it, & close Opera. Then I restart, open the config screen to confirm the change but the box is still unticked. I might have to edit the .ini file and I don't have time for that at work at the moment. Any other ideas?
Have you tried to use the no push internet to really close opera? It seems you doesn´t closed it, as it has not saved
Not sure what the issue was but I got the settings to stick finally. All of my links now default to Opera except of course TF3D. Thanks for the help.
Hey, you mind sharing what you did in case someone else has a problem?

Which config category is it under? I expanded all of them but didn't see a default browser box?
go to opera:config, navigate to the "Install" category.
Check Browser First Time Launch and press Save.
Exit Opera, then restart.
Might have to do this few times because it took a few tries to get it to stick for me.
Worked 1st time for me....Thanks
damn it, not working for me. Everytime i exit opera it resets even BEFORE i restart the phone. I have tried 5 times now.
Any other way?

Unfortunately this cab didn't work either, however i can't un-install it. It isn't listed in the remove programs area, do i need a registry editor to get it back to normal?
Thanks
I have no idea why this works but immediately after I saved the setting, I went a random website in opera and the setting stayed.
Not working for me either, I gave up on it.
This worked great on my new HTC touch pro2. I clicked on an email link and it took me to the opera browser and opened the link.
What does it change exactly on the registery, and how to revert to IE just in case?
Thanks a million.
I cannot figure out where to find the Opera:Configure setting?
Thanks in advance,

open opera type in address bar opera:config
This migt be helpful, once you click on the option to make opera the default browser, go to options and hit exit, opera will ask you if you want to exit or minimize, just hit exit. this way it saved the settings for me.

Remap "Launch Browser" on Manila tab?

I have been searching and searching to no avail.
There has got to be some way to remap the "Launch Browser" button on the Manila "Browser" tab to launch the browser program of your choice?
I know I can select Skyfire as my default browser and it will launch with other programs... but I would like that same browser to launch when I push the big button on the Manila tab.
Seriously... there has got to be a way... anyone?
I found where someone else posted this in the HTC Diamond forums in responce to this same question about a year ago. I haven’t had the opportunity to try to confirm this as a work around:
All you need to do is to modify a file named “InternetPortal-en-US.xml” which is located in \Application Data\Manila. Use the freeware application Total Commander to navigate to this file and once you locate it press the pen/paper icon on the bottom of the page and that will open the file on the screen so you can edit it.
Once the file is open in Total Commander just add one of the following lines after the line <InternetPortal> which is towards the top:
Opera is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>\mobile\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
Internet Explorer is:
<BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
SkyFire is:
<BrowserExe>\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Iris is:
<BrowserExe>\program files\iris browser\irisbrowser.exe</BrowserExe>
I installed Opera Mobile 9.5 beta to my storage card, so my new path is:
<BrowserExe>\storage card\program files\opera
*Note if you can't save your changes - make sure that the file isn't set on "read only" (click the hand holding the paper icon and uncheck the "read only" box. You may have to click twice to remove the setting)
As I would be looking at going to Skyfire, I’m guessing my path would look something like this: <BrowserExe>\Storage Card\Program Files\Skyfireskyfire.exe</BrowserExe>
Again, I haven’t tested this yet (I'm at work), but looking at the information posted in the .xml, it does appear to control/direct what happens when that Launch Browser button is pushed. Whether or not other files also have an effect, and what these changes would effect, are yet unconfirmed (as I saw no replies after that post).
There are however other commands in that .xml file that I'm not sure how they effect things and I would love a second opinion.
you can go into the registry and navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER and change the path in line number 1 to lead to whatever browser that you want to use and then change the name in line number 0...hope this helps!!

I know how to change the "default browser" that other programs (mail, Twitter etc) launch via hyperlink. That's easy.
Setting another browser as the default browser however DOES NOT CHANGE Opera from launching from the "Launch Browser" button on the Browser tab in Manila. I want this button and tab to launch a different browser as well.
Still haven't sat down and tried the method I posted above... but I'll report back if I can get it to work.
I've found this in a few places too... unfortunatly... nither the directory nor the file exist in this version. I even had it searching hidden & system files to no avail. Am looking for alternatives.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548770
Also, here is item 4 from that thread. It appears you can have what ever browser you want to launch from the "Globe". But it does not effect the bookmarks you have set in the Manilla browser tab. I need it to launch these as well in my selected browser. BTW I have done the tweaks here, and can confirm they do work. I have 6 of my own bookmarks on the browser tab. And I got rid of the globe, didn't need it.
But I am still using Opera 9.5. I really want to be able to make this work with the book marks cause once Fenec is released I will be using that instead.
4) Remove the line <BrowserExe>\Windows\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe>
This will now launch the lower left Bookmarks and lower right browser in Opera. (this is only possible, if you have already edit the registry in the previous tutorial)
Replacing the tag <BrowserExe>\Window\iexplore.exe</BrowserExe> with <BrowserExe>\Windows\Opera9.exe</BrowserExe> only launches the "Earth" tab in Opera but the tabs will not be launched at all, not even in IE. Don't know why this happens. You can even edit the Banner tag so that it doesn't go to the web2go website by modifying the NavigateUrl to "" or whatever you want

Unfortunately, as I had said in my other post, neither the file referenced nor the path are on my device. It has got to be buried elsewhere. I just need to know where.

You don't mention what device, exactly you have (carrier variant). Or which ROm you have (stock or some cooked version like 6.5)

Are you referring to the "IternetPortal-en-US.xml” file?
I'm looking at it right now on my Verizon CDMA TP2.
As for the other tweak... glad to hear Im on the right track. Cant wait till Im home and can do some file editing on the laptop. I don't use the bookmarks on the Launch Browser page very often, so I feel that I'm very close to having a solution for this issue. Now I just need to arrange the free time to give it a shot.

HTC Keyboard - Froyo

Hi all,
maybe this has been addressed somewhere already, but I haven't found it.
In stock Eclair there was a "hide" button on the onscreen keyboard. In all of the Sense Froyo ROMs I've used, there is a "change keyboard layout/language" button instead. Now if I want to hide the keyboard (e.g. to access controls that are under it) I have to either push the menu button or click somewhere outside a text control. This approach is rather clumsy, the "hide" button was much more useful.
Is there a way to restore this "hide" button? Or does someone has an apk of the Eclair sense keyboard that would work with Froyo?
Thanks
I think you need to search for HTC ime mod. HTC keyboard for stock android.
Push the back button and the keyboard disappears
I do know what Sigismund83 means and it's quite frustrating, I've only just got used to hiding the Keyboard by using the back button, but I wish there was a quick-hide button like there was prior to upgrading to Froyo. I've even had a dabble in the Android's keyboard, but the keyboard is too tall and when I'm creating an sms, I'd like to read over what I had prior and it's difficult to do so.
Gonna check out HTC IME Mod to see if that's any good.
Actually perfect! I've got it exactly how I want it after a few minutes of faffing about..
Sigismund83, you can download the keyboard from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And the settings I use to make it look like Stock IME are as follows..
I deselected "Show candidates bar" and got rid of the "Smiley hack" within the User Interface by [email protected] and it was perfect.
Hope this helps
Oh and before I forget, if you've got Dropbox, best thing to do is upload the apks there then use the Dropbox app to download and the phone will prompt to install. But if you're not lazy (unlike me), just shove them on the memory card and install with ASTRO.

This sure works too, but I'll look for the apk anyway. I was kinda used to this button (similar was also in WinMo devices). But I might as well change my habits
Worked

Since you didn't say which ROM you were using, I'm going to assume you're on the stock one with TF3D. Go here to turn it off: Start > Settings > System > G-Sensor.

im using the stock sprint rom with the 6.5 upgrade. Ive disabled touchflow and use spb mobile shell. Ive gone into start settings system g sensor but there is only a option to calibrate the g sensor nowhere do i see any other options for anything. I dont think there are any differences wether i access the setting through touch flo. Maybe your rom adds that setting. Thanks for the reply and trying to help.
Delete the apps of your choice (in this case Opera) from the White List in the registry to prevent G-Sensor rotation. White List location is:
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList
If registry edits scare you, you can install the G-Config app. This simple program just edits the registry through a user-friendly UI.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487991
Open G-Config, you should see Opera on the list of Rotated Apps. Select and hold on Opera until the option to "Remove" pops up. Select "Remove" than exit G-Config, and soft reset the phone to make the change take effect.

Hi thanks for the response. i use opera mini and its not on the list. I added it and then tried to remove it but that did not work. I guess its only good for disabling g sensor for the programs that it comes with - I was succesful at disabling rotation with the opera on the list that comes with the stock rom. Any other suggestions? Ive never edited a registry but am williing to try if you can tell me how. thanks.
