Touch buton issue - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all, I have a strĂ¢nge issue with my Desire hd. Specifically, the light on the touch buttons is on or off as it pleased, without any warning. The vibration is working but the buttons have no ilumination on them sometimes. I am running stock rom Android 2.2.

Nobody experienced similar problems with his DHD? I flashed an AOSP Rom (oxigen) and my problem isn.t gone. Now I see that when the light of the buttons turned off, the screen gets a little darker. The keys seems to go on or off as they please.

This probably because of the light sensor. If it's bright then of course the soft key lights will turn off, and if it's dark then well you can expect it to turn on. Try it out yourself. The light sensor is the black dot on the right side of your ear piece. Just cover it up and see what happens.

EVO Button LEDS not working

I am OMJ's Rom on my EVO rooted with toasts method plus the radio update and the led's under the front buttons are not working. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an app that controls them that was removed?
The lights will be off when the phone is plugged in and charging.
When exactly are the lights under the four soft buttons supposed to be on?
On my EVO (novatec 003, stock) I have noticed an inconstancy in when they light up. Sometimes they light up when I unlock my phone, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they turn on later, sometimes they don't turn on at all.
This doesn't seem normal to me. What are other's experience with this?
Thanks
they are controled with the light sensor and should be on in low light situations and off in bright lights. you can test this by covering the light sensor to the right of the HTC logo on top of the device.
Thank you @peepeesea that was it exactly. Which is more hi-tech that I gave them credit for.
Also as a side note, since I've been reading the xda forums I feel like a phone hypochondriac. Everythings broken!!

It seems to me to be a sensor oriented thing. In dark it lights up no problem but when in a room with light it shuts off to conserve battery? Very interesting htc.

The light sensor is in the very very top left of the screen. When you have the keyboard open and are in a well lit room you might accidentally be reaching over the light sensor, making it think it's dark again, and therefor powering up the keyboard backlight again until you move your finger. You can solve this problem by rooting and installing Cyanogenmod RC1 which gives you complete control over all your backlights.
Agree with jark99. Looks like it depends on light sensor. In the dark environment keyboard lights up every time.

Want to know what's even cooler with that light sensor? When I hold my phone to my ear, the screen goes off. When I take it away, it turns back on. That's pretty darn cool. However, yes, it's all dependent on the light sensor. I've had a few times when I wanted to light on and it didn't, but that's rare. I kinda like that when I need it on its on, but not when I don't. Every bit of battery is important when it comes to my phone, but there hasn't been a large problem with it not coming on here on this end.

Q:Screen light

I have little problem on DHD ,when I talking with someone the screen light wont turn off always when I put him on ear?Is there an option in setings to control this?
People have stated that proximity

[Q] Hardware buttons - permanently light up?

Hello!
I just switched from HTC Hero to HTC Wildfire S
Is there any ROM or App that lights up the hardware buttons permanently?
I know that they are linked to the light sensor. But in low-light conditions I really can't tell where the buttons are

Click to collapse
Hmm, don't know if there are any apps. But I'm sure the light sensor works perfectly when it comes to seeing the soft buttons..
Welcome to the WFS forum anyway.
Well for me the light sensor does not work properly here. I cannot see the buttons dusky in light conditions
Try screen filter it has options for turning on the button lights.
When u Start the program it'll dim ur screen then click it's settings in notification bar and adjust the slider to set the dimness and select the option to light up the buttons.
Not sure what u mean by permanent but just try it out and give a thumbs up if it helped
Hi! Screen Filter does not work even thought I selected the option for light up the buttons
By permenent I mean: I want the hardware buttons to light up always when the display is on.
Isn't. That the. Default case?
My buttons. Are always lit when. My display. Is on
Edit: using cyanogenmod 7.2
Maybe this will help

DHD touch lights not functional

Hi all I have icecoldsandwich v7 every thing works great but the backlight on the home and back touch buttons will not activate.
With the exception of when I manually adjust the brightness of the screen they light up and stay lit up until I lock the phone. When I unlock it the lights are no longer on.
