I tried to plug in my phone to my moms car. (BMW x6) and I have the dock settings set to play through external speakers but it doesn't work? Can someone help me out with this?

lol jk
it's probably meant for USB thumb drives and ipods
i use the AUX port anyway
Man, I wish I had that problem. You know, my ET4G not working with my BMW!
Like the above poster said. My friends truck has a USB port for the radio too. It recognizes iPods/iPhones and USB mem cards, but NOT Androids because it's racist against robots!
even though the car stereo may not recognize an Android device, the phone (or the music folder on the SD card) should be able to appear as if it were a thumb drive. What about USB connect? Does it prompt upon connection?

Lmao true. Try unrooting and going back to pure stock. The stock mounts the drives differently and in theory should work as a usb thumb drive. DO this WITHOUT a SD installed on the back of the phone so the car doesn't get confused with two drives mounted. This should work assuming no driver issues.

I have ps2 controllers that I use through usb I my computer to play all my emulators. What is needed to get my eVo to recognize these to be mapped as hardware buttons in the emulator settings? Would it be a driver? Does one even exist, or have to be written and how would I put it on my phone?

Can't happen. You cannot plug anything INTO the evolution as android doesn't have USB host support

yea sorry but that's a pretty dumb question. you did notice there is no standard usb slot on your phone right?
That's a million dollar idea though.
No need for anyone to be snippy. The usb thing was something I didn't know about android. I dont post much cause I do alot of reading on xda, so I usually find my own answers, but this was something I just never came across. I did connect the controllers I have through usb, just nothing happened. Can be connected through the usb cable that came with the phone plus a double female adaptor plus ps2 controllers and a usb adaptor for them. I dont think this is a stupid question cause it would b a pretty F ing kick ass way around this bluetooth htc crap. I'm not ditching mikfroyo 4.5 for any cm or aosp rom to use the bluetooth controllers. Just wanted to see if there war any other way. Now I know there isn't and hopefully htc gets their **** together with the bluetooth on the eVo 3d cause it's gonna be a gaming beast!

I know they are working on the PS3 controller. They already got the Wii remote to work for the Evo. As for PS2, short of having your computer transmit inputs via Wifi or Bluetooth, it will be a pretty hard concept to get across considering the alternatives.
I've looked around on Amazon but I don't know what to get so are there any suggestions for one that works
Thanks

The feature is not yet stable and I don't think it's determined that it will work 100%. So buying anything specific does not grantee it will work.

I haven't tried Bluetooth yet, I can't find my Bluetooth USB dongle that I paid too much money for.
So is it even worth buying one yet

I just bought one for ten bux at frys. gonna try it later today hopefully.
I bought 5 of them online for about 4 bucks a piece. Took several weeks to get them. I got 5 because I figured I'd loose them and originally got them for my nexus.
i made mine but anything designed for the galaxy nexus seems to work.
I have all usb host working ie, flash drive, mouse/keyboard, (stick mount & powered hub) (when you mount flashdrive etc use a file explorer to locate it on your sdcard "usbstorage").
any tips on getting bluetooth activated as my dongle shows up in usb controller app but the BT toggle switch doesn't stay switched:-(

no probs, i'm off to bed so i'll do it in the morning.
it,s 1.18am here.
I'm also trying to incorporate a male & female stereo jack so i can use the headphone port at the same time (this will make it alot more rugged as well as it will have the two points of contact and not just the usb).
when I strip it back down tomorrow I will post a step by step guide with pic's.
the hardest part is stripping the back off the micro connector to expose pin 5. also I used a multi meter with sewing needles taped to the test leads to test it all out after the build. (I made a straight one first which is easier but puts strain on the usb port)imo.
once the headphone jack extension is finished I will put in a lever for the power button
hope this helps and happy stripping (watch those little fingers it's fiddly) lol
haha I know exactly what you mean, I sliced my finger this morning trying to peel back the micro USB plastic but anyways thanks, I really appreciate it that thing is awesome

did you give this a try?
Just saw this one Kickstarter. Think its going to be a hit. Im def signing up for this one. Will make for a nice car charger for me.

I like it. I agree it'll be great for the car.
Interesting, but micro usb ports are flimsy as it is.

No way that thing will hold a Galaxy Nexus securely. The USB port on the phone is already a very weak connection. Not to mention, that thing will probably destroy your port even more than it might already be.
This would actually be great. Might have to put some money towards it.
i'm much more interested in the software that lets you use your phone as a display.

The video shows it holding a GNEX, at like 1 minute.
Thanks we got pogo pins , but accessories cost to much, I have the desktop audio dock, and it's ****ing very high quality, still cheap price for working usb port

In their picture they're using Air display, which is iOS and OS X only :-(. I too would kill for something like that for android.

He didn't say it wasn't possible, just that it's going to wreck the micro-usb port, which it most likely will.
Using the micro-usb to hold up the phone on its own weight? You’re asking to break the port and possibly ruin the phone.
no thanks
I dont think there should be any issues with this as long as you are careful when first putting it in the micro slot. Just like with a dock or regular charging cable, if you jam it in there, its going to cause havoc. And if it does break it, my phone is under a yr warranty so I wont mind. I think this is going to be a great product. I will write a review once they are shipped in Sept.
I thought about getting one for the car, but then I thought what would happen at a hard braking situation... I'll pass.

What do you mean you cant plug it in? It wont work with those usb decks that have terrible compatability anyways. It will work fine if you get an aux cable and plug it in. I use mine in my car.

When I do that it causes my touchscreen to go mental. Can't press anything properly and every button touch becomes a hold.
Ended up buying a bluetooth device and now all working well.
mine refuses to play anything it looks like s rejects the cable just like any other unsupported headphone..
Mine works great in my car and my friends.

Ok so I'm getting really tired of using my ipod to play music in my car. Mainly cuz my computer no longer works so I cant add any new music to it. I tried connecting my s3 via usb but all my stereo gives me is an "n/a usb". So I bought this aux cord on ebay

I'm thinking it will work and I can finally grt rid of that ipod. Has anyone tried this before? If it does work more than likely I will be buying that galaxy player so that I can get all my music off my phone.

Yes it will work. I run a stereo shop in Dallas.... the aux isn't as good as a USB connection... I haven't connected my s3 to my USB. Because the JVC stereo I have comes with Bluetooth. No need for wires there....

When connecting USB, enable USB debugging, and when you mount the storage on your phone, try both MTP and PTP. Let me know how that works for you. And yes that cord will work for you.

Also, I think depending on the receiver, the location of the songs might matter... like at the root of internal or external... or in a specific folder.. I forget. I run over Bluetooth but when I plug my phone in to charge I remember being able to browse through some songs....but not others.
