I'm new to rooting and would like to switch between Bombaridier and Juggernaut. What steps do I need to take to switch between the two roms if I already have Bomba on here.
Go to the opening page of whatever ROM you want and there should be specific instructions on how to install. Hope that helps you.

You did thanks. So I would have to go through the hassle of putting in all my contacts and apps each time I switch roms?

theres an app called Titanium Backup, that should help you backup your apps, and for the contacts, i recomend saving them to your google account or sim for that matter.

Hi,
I tried to flash CyanogenMod today from JellyBellyv3.
It originally worked, but it wouldn't sync my google contacts, wouldn't let me open the play store or gmail app, so I decided to reformat.
Now nothing of mine is on the phone, play store isn't available even and it won't let me sync whatsoever.
What the hell did I do and how do I fix this? XD

Did you wipe data before flashing CM10? It's best to wipe data when changing to a different rom.
Steps are:
1) wipe data
2) Flash ROM
3) Flash Gapps
4) Reboot
EDIT: Also make sure you are flashing the 20121110 gapps if you are running CM10 with 4.1.2
Wipe all data from CWM?
Question being, if I entirely reformat, will CWM still be there?
I had downloaded the wrong gapps, I'm gonna try using the right one now.

whenever you change roms, you need to wipe data/cache otherwise you might up with similar problems again.
Not flashing a new ROM just flashing an update of the same.

No but you can always wipe if you end up having force closes or issues a clean install is usually recommended. I don't unless I do experience issues but that's just me.

Is it necessary to wipe every time you poo? Not necessarily, but it is always a good idea to at least wipe once.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's likely. Especially when flashing an update of the same rom.
Okay here i goes
Moving from ICS to Jellybean
You need format /system, /data, /cache, /dalvic cache
Same goes moving from Sense roms to AOSP.
Updating a current ROM.
Typically, I will just wipe cache and dalvic cache. unless advised by dev.

You need to purchase Titanium backup because that's a great tool for restoring apps. However, it too has its limitations. You can't restore data from ICS to jellybean. Or Sense to AOSP. Just apps

it's actually what I just did, got here because I'm having issues with the encryption unsuccessful... how'd you get around that?
I went with CWM 5 (signed version 5.0.2.7 ext4+rfs) and then proceeded to install CM9 final 3.
all went according to directions but then I got that msg and the reset button that doesn't do squat...
tried a search for the error message there but couldn't really pinpoint a working solution. so for now i just odin'd back the latest fw for the S5660 (ie S5660XXKTL_S5660XXKT7_S5660DBTKT1_HOME - Germany)
Reason i'm doing all this is because I believe the German baseband is different that the Canadian one (for Telus) since I'm not getting any reception from my provider but i'm able to get (detect) another one...
thanks for your time...

I did the wipe/factory reset after the flash (just following the directions)
I tried to wipe the dalvik but it would go back to the main cwm menu, not letting me select yes
Try this steps:
1. Wife/factory reset

3. Advance wife dalvic cache/ bat stats

Some history on my device:
ATT SGH-i317
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I317UCALJ2
Running CleanROM ACE 4.8.0
This morning when I woke up, my phone was frozen. No response at all, so I pulled the battery and rebooted it. When the device came back up, all my settings were gone, apps were failing left and right and it was almost unusable. So, I figured I'd try to flash Scott's newest ROM (previously running CleanROM 4.2.5) to see if that cleaned things up.
I was unable to wipe the caches correctly, TWRP tells me that it cannot mount /data and the davlik cache wipe fails. Doing a factory reset doesn't see to do anything either.
So, not wanting to make things worse, I'm turning to you fine folks for some guidance. What is the proper plan of attack here to get whole again?
Ultimately, I'd like to run CleanROM 4.8, be rooted, etc.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

What version of TWRP do you have. They are at version 2.5.0.1 now. I'd update TWRP then rewipe cache, delvic cache, factory reset and system.
If possible back up data and then wipe data as well. Wipe them three times each. Make sure your download is good with an md5 check hopefully

Ok, that is a solid suggestion. I am running twrp v2.3.1.1
I'll try upgrading that to see if the cache issues go away. Further, at this point I do have backups, but the ROMs creator suggests not using them. So I'm not sure if I will or not.

Running CleanROM. He always states to run his ROMs cleanly, no backups.
Updating TWRP to the latest version has enabled me to clear everything and I am setting the phone back up now. Thank you all for your help! :good:
OP
The suggestion to not use backups is likely talking about backups from titanium backup etc.
Not about a full backup of the rom. Scott simply does not want data mixed from a previous build which can cause many issues.
A nandroid backup of your device at a time when the device is running properly, can and will save your bacon at some point in your flashing career.
The nandroid will allow restoration of the device partitions if they become corrupted as your device did.
While you may not know what caused the failure, a full wipe and restore using your clean nandroid backup would save you time and effort. Not to mention data you saved inside of the backup.
It is wise to back up everything, including the EFS folder and modem as well in TWRP.
I'm glad you are running again...and once your set up is completed....backup....IMHO.....g
