[Q] CM9 with Hardwareacceleration? - Defy General

Good evening guys,
Do you think CM9 for Defy might also get Hardwareaccelerations?
On the ICS-Port for Samsung Galaxy S I9000(B) it's already (yeah right NOW!) working.
Would be a great thing!
May the force be with you.

Did you mean Hardware 2D Graphics Acceleration?
So, it's default module in ICS isn't it?
that's mean we might be got this!

Yep, i was just wondering because CM7 doensn't have a 2.3 Kernel eather. Instead they are using a Froyo Kernel. Am I right?

Hello, please shed some light in my situation. I TRIED several droid builds like myns warm(on my vouge) and xandroid on my tp1. But recently This morning I loaded this up.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739730
And to my surprise 3d Hw accelaration is fully working! I was shocked how smooth everything runs and how smooth and fast the 3d apps run. so obviously this droid build has something turning the 3d gpu on. Ok, as for my question, Whick other build has 3d fully on like the onw on the above link posted? Unfortunately tge buikd us 1.6 and not enclair or froyo. But I rather have it since 3d is actually working. Can yoy guys please point me to the right thread with gpu flly enabked like thus 1.6 build. Thank you all. Amazing work !

Nearly if not all builds have 3d implemented in them within this sub-forum. For people who were only introduced to Android from eclair and froyo it was very apparent that hw acceleration was running much better on donut.
While trying to port hw3d onto eclair and froyo we weren't able to replicate the exact output and that is why hw3d stutters but works.
In short you wont find any other build running 3d aswell as donut. But i'm sure suilmagic backported the hw3d drivers since the xdandroid autobuild service dont support anything under eclair and further

actually there was no back porting involved, if it was that i would have probly never tried donut getting up and runnig with hw3d, the only thing that can be vaguely be accredited to me is fixing wifi on donut ,what i did to enable hw3d in donut was to setup the kernel to build with donut driver enabled instead of eclair/froyo.
@SINN: you will have to just wait for the hw3d driver to mature on eclair/froyo, you were just lucky(i guess) that i got interested in donut and decided to sort of bring it up to date. But hey in the mean time enjoy my build's.

Choppy audio on ULTIMATE DROID v2.0

I happen to use andless to play flac files on my phone, and I've noticed that there is an unbearable lag and tons of choppy audio when on ultimate Droid. Has anyone been able to fix this? Even if overclocked it will lag a ton when I lock it. I don't have setcpu and the phone runs fine aside from the audio. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? It was great on the desire z Rom.....

No. 1st rom that i never replaced it. Until now, i had no problems except for wireless tether failing occasionally, but a reboot would fix it. What kernel do you reccomend? Theres so many and im just not sure now lol...
invisiblek
I can highly recommend invisiblek's #16 kernel found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854390
Performance is great, and battery life has been truly epic.
Best AOSP kernel I've ever loaded, without question.

I just installed it, seems a bit smoother and havent found any issues... except choppy sound.. I simply sont know what it is. I have a class 10 card, am overclocked, but every time i lock my phone it gets choppy as hell. Could the built in overcllocking be doing this?

It could - perhaps try stock speeds (no overclocking) and see what that does.
Idk if it was a typo, but what are the file formats in your OP?
Also, have you tried updating to UD 2.4?
Are you using the native UD media player, the themed one, or the Android one?
Finally, do any other media player 'helpers' or media players at all make any difference - example - DSP?

Well, ive tried screwing with the overclocking settings. Stock speeds didnt help though. Im really not sure why. And yea. im running 2.4.0 and uh.... its gotten worse lol. Not sure why. Im listening to FLAC files using andless. as far as i can tell, the music app cannot find them. but they are on the internal memory so idk. Ive switched kernels and its better, basically it just lags like a mofo when i lock it.
It def. seems like a clock speed thing, but leaving it on defaults hasnt helped. Im really not sure. Are there any other good flac players for me to try? maybe the app sucks?
Stumped on this one .... idk anything about flac files.

Does your kernel change performance when you lock it, screen off? Can you use SetCPU to change the screen off performance?
Have you tried UD2.4 yet? Also, 2.5 is suppose to release sometime Sunday or Monday. Maybe the issue has been fixed in one of the last few updates.
Under UD settings and the overclock/underclock feature, what is the minimum clock speed set at? Maybe raising that value would help?

regarding cm7 and cm9 for galaxy y

i'm not here to disappoint you , but want to reduce your expectations , this thread is not about my cm9 or anythin of mine , its simply common
Actually its impossible to make hw acceleration work in cm7 and cm9 for galaxy y,
that simply means that even if developed it wont be smooth and will be unstable with sw acceleration , simply unusable
Maclaw too pointed out the same that bcm gpu in galaxy y cant support hw acceleration (this applies for cm7 and cm9 , dont complain that ur phone has hw acceleration , yes ur phone does have hw acceleration with stock and aosp rom)
but u still can have hope with sw acceleration , as there is a way to make the rom smooth with sw acceleration but thats too demanding and nearly impossible .
on vivekalady's cm7, he is trying to make hw acceleration work , sw acceleration works already but low graphics performance
so i'm conveying to you people that , dont expect much in terms of cm7 and cm9 for sgy , also miui , but a gud news is that hw acceleration can work with aosp , so miui can be possible .
so u people need to settle with stock based rom's , but with this kind of attitude towards the dev who theme roms and make custom based roms(i'm not making one) , you are actually making the devs pull out of this forum.
this thread was made to reduce expectations and make people clear of the present situations .
edit: hw acceleration has slight chances to work with cm7 , but wont giv full gpu , around 60% is possible
i know very well that there will be trolls, flames for this thread too , but i dont care , i'm none to advice you
Bad news for all sgy users
I knew it
Thanks buddy
Be happy
I'm happy with the custom ROM I've got already. I'd like to have CM9 for my Y, but HCFroyd247's ChobitsDigitalisV2.0 is good enough for me

if someone say sgy don't have hw acceleration then :
a. he/she don't know about hw acceleration, or
b. it's just excuse to make people stop ask him/her to port cynogenmod to sgy
if this device don't have hw acceleration you will get low fps in antutu 2d/3d benchmark. my home-brew animation app also easily reach 60fps. it's not possible if this device don't have graphic hw acceleration.
as far as I know our problem is not related the hw acceleration stuff. we already have a booted cm7. that's a prove that our device has possibility to has cm7. our main problem at this moment is that we don't have a complete source to build cm7 since the one comes from samsung is incomplete. don't ask me when samsung will release the complete source to public. they're getting more unfriendly to anyone who want to mod their product day by day. as you can see, they doesn't even let us replace their boot animation in their newest firmware for our device.
actually the stock rom can have hw acceleration also aosp , but cm7 and cm9 cant have , i'm not making any excuses , and i didnt say it by myself maclaw told this

i wasnt so clear in my thread , stock and aosp is definitely havin hw acceleration , but when it comes to cm7 and cm9 this is not the case(due to numerous reasons)
i'm not here to offend u , or break ur hopes , if u people get gud cm7 and cm9 i'm happy with that , and this thread is made from my own experience in trying to make cm9 for sgy and also from the wrds of maclaw(developer-cm9 for mini, fit, ace, gio) and rom maru(developer -cm9 lg pe350)

I'm not referring to viveks build. what I mean is the one ported from ace. the phone is succesfully booted up but we don't have gsm, wifi, and bluetooth functionality since we don't have approriate driver for those stuffs.

this one prove that hw acceleration stuff is definetely not a problem. if stock rom and aosp could have hw acceleration then cm7 is surely could have it too. maclaw might think that SGY doesn't support hw acceleration since he couldn't find the driver needed to enable hw acceleration in samsung's source code. well...it simply because samsung nor broadcomm doesn't release the code to public. we can try to make a global petition stuff for samsung to release all their newest source code to public but I doubt if they'll give them easily to us.

[Q] bad perfomance?

Hi there,
I don't know, if it's my imagination, but I think the tegra3 is not powerful enough to play games like "Need for Speed" or "Shadowgun THD". While playing I'm experiencing fps-drops and laggy tracking shots in cutscenes. I've also tested the gaming boost app, which changed nothing in my opinion.
When I look at a friend's Nexus4, everything is buttery smooth. But: 1080p playback with BS-Player also works smooth as hell on my HOX (with MHL to my TV too). So I think, it's a little bit strange, that I can't play properly.
Someone also encountering this gaming-issue or is it just me?
Well the problem is sense is very heavy requires more ram and htc stock kernel doesn't make the most of the phone so if you want to take most out of your phone flash an aosp rom with ncx kernel repacked for it
Sent from my HTC One X using ViperX 3.2.4
Thanks for your answer. But I would miss sense a lot. So is there any chance of a + in performance with a sense rom?
If you are on stock there is not much I can suggest for you to do. With certain games like need for speed, modern combat etc. it is up to the game developer to optimise it for the device. Unfortunately with some of them like Gameloft there games are not properly optimised for the one x.
If you are rooted and on a custom rom though, there are other possibilities. You can go for a non sense rom like Cyanogenmod, stripped down versions of sense like Renovate, or there are even mods which speed up the device like Renovate gaming boost.

Yes, it could definitely improve it if it has this issue.

Try it, and let me know if there's any difference. Sounds like this might be an issue. The zip only cleans the free space and makes it writable again. Over time it becomes unusable, fstrim repairs it. Doesn't do any harm.
It may be another problem, but this is likely.
