Fastboot stopped working - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have happily used fastboot several times. It now will not work. I am running SE Tweaked 0.7 with Blendkernel V2 (I want to go and try DoomLords V15). My PC is running XP. I have tried downloading various drivers but I always get ounkown device when I plug in in fastboot mode (blue light on). When I go into device manager and point to the correct drivers windows says they are no better. I have repeated the whole issue on another PC and the same happens.
This is the first time I have tried fastboot on Blenkernel so is this the issue? As it is the same on two PCs (one of which was working before) I can only guess it must be the phone but how the f can this be? Any ideas much appreciated as I thought I had updating things on the Arc cracked.

Is the fastboot button working in normal phone use?

Sorry to sound even more like noon but what us the Fastboot. Button?

Um the button you use to connect to fastboot...
Let me change mu question above,
Is the menu button working in normal phone use?

Yep all buttons are working correctly. As I said I can get the phone into fastboot mode but I can't get the PC to see it.

I had the same problem,
Try using another usb cable.
I had the same problem and solved by changing the usb cable.
Sent from my Anzu using xda premium

isolate also by trying another pc. sometimes the drivers get messed up especially if you tinker alot with your pc.

I will try a new cable. I tried a new pc and it was no good.

Also some users reported problems when they connects cable 1st phone USB port and second end THEN pc USB port....
Problem seems that, USB port then 1st switch power and after that data and then pc don't recognizes your phone.

I'm now having this problem, did you solve it?
Installed Doomkernel, now no luck with Fastboot.
Tried a different cable, and re-installing the drivers.
Phone goes into Fastboot mode but doesn't work.
edit: fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version returns version: 0.3
Nothing else seems to do anything, just get < waiting for device >

[Q] USB arc S problem

Hi guys first of all I'm french so, sorry for my bad English
Few days ago, I rooted my phone ( arc S LT18i ) which is running with ICS (4.1.A.562), and 3 days ago, I instaled the recovery with CMW for Xperia**, and then I can't plug in USB my phone. It doesn't work. Althougt on electric outlet it's Charging, it doesn't charg on my computer too. I tried on my PC and on my MAC with 2 different cable, it doesn't work.
Help me please
**For CMW, you can find it on the play store, but I can't post a link
Try reinstalling pc companion as this normally. Has drivers which install automatically.
Can you try connecting when phone is switched on our in flash mode.
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
How do you reinitialise it ? and how do you go in flash mode ?
When my phone is on and plugged, the led is red and when it's off, it's green if i push "return" that's the only things which are displayed
If you have pc companion installed on pc uninstall it then either redownload it by using google search or try connecting phone it should install automatically.
Check settings on phone under Xperia, connectivity tab, make sure you have ticked the option too install pc companion and it is in mtp mode if this still did not work try using the other option.
To enter flash mode switch of phone hold the back key then switch on phone led should go green.

[Q] Help with Unlocking Bootloader please!

Hi All
I am a relative noob but have read around the Forum a lot.
I am trying to unlock the bootloader on my Arc S. I have checked all the basic on Sony site, it is allowed etc. The problem I have is my PC does not detect my phone when in recovery. When phone is booted normally PC companion finds it no problem. I have SDK manger installed and fastboot.exe is working, it just can't see the phone. I have CWM recovery installed, not sure if this is an issue.
Does anyone have any idea how to sort this out.
Many Thanks.
Why do you connect to pc when in cwm ??
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
I was trying to unlock the bootloader following Sony's instructions. You need to connect using Fastboot to issue the unlock code, but my phone is not detected. I have check drivers etc, all looks ok.
Missing drives for sure !!!
Try another usb port !!!

You should connect in fastboot, shutdown, hold menu button (the one right to home button) while holding connect the usb. A blue led should light up

I'm also trying to unlock my BL, I go into fastboot but then I get stuck when ito comes to using the command window, as I'm using Win7 Ultimate x64 & I'm unable to cd into the Program Files (x86) folder as I get the error message access denied.
Roland
Ok I managed to sort it out, I tried all sorts of ways but the phone would not load into fastboot. In the end I was having numerous problems so I flashed JJ Hybrid rom without unlocking the bootloader. Intrestingly when I had done this the phone will go into fastboot, so I have now unlocked the bootloader. I gues there must have been something wrong with the offical rom that I had installed.
Thanks for the advice.

[Q] Is my phone's bootloader bricked?

I am trying to update the HTC One VX AT&T version to the new JB official rom. however, i cannot use the update software on the phone or the recommended manual update as described at htc's website.
I have previously rooted and unlocked via the HTC developers code that they sent to me, and that all went fine. However, now my PC will not recognize the phone when it is in fastboot, and the HBOOT menu says I am ***TAMPERED***
Phone is recognized via HTC Sync program, and will go throught the initial steps in the RUU update file from HTC.com but as soon as the bootloader starts up, I is unrecognized again...
If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, or if there is any more information I can give you, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

If you were unlocked and s-on then you must relock bootloader before updating with ruu.
Just type this in fastboot, without the quotes
"Fastboot oem lock" in command prompt.

how would one do this if phone is not recognized in fastboot mode via adb?
uninstall htc sync. drivers will stay. sync gets in the way sometimes. I just used the ruu from the htc site and the setup wizard did it all. very easy, you could do it that way, no need to relock bootloader. or flash one of the Jellybean roms jmz has out. that would be the easiest way.
Thanks. Tried uninstalling HTC sync, and rebooting my pc. Still hangs when the phone restarts into bootloader. Still telling me it is unrecognized...

hboot and fastboot menus are the same. the tampered part is because of the custom recovery. if you are selecting fastboot and pc is not detecting the device, thats odd. if you havent, change usb port and cable.
it is possible to get drivers issues with fastboot/hboot. when connecting usb cable after fastboot is selected does it change to FASTBOOT USB?
did you turn USB debugging on? are you going to fastboot after going into the bootloader?

I have tried with about 3 different USB cables, and every different available USB port. all to no avail. If i select fastboot manually by holding the power and volume down, then it will say fastboot, until I push the volume up or down, then it will switch to fastboot usb.
when the RUU program triggers a reboot into the fastboot mode (I'm assuming that's what it is trying to do, anyway) it just hangs on a black screen with a big white HTC logo, until the program times out and I have to exit. Restarting the phone is no issue, because it just starts up like normal.

Do "fastboot oem rebootRUU". You should see the device in device manager. Then run the ruu again.

Same deal if I reboot to fastboot via ADB or manually with the phone. As soon as I enter fastboot, no longer recognized by the computer.

you said that the phone gets into black screen with htc white letters. that means normal fastboot still works because the RUU sends that same command. i ask you again to check windows device manager and see if your device is there. if its not, try unplug and replug usb cable.
Unplugging and plugging the cord back in did nothing. Device manager lists the device as unknown. It says something about device reporting error.

OK. I will try that. I'm running a system I built myself with Windows 8. Do you think that windows 8 is causing some issues? my wife's laptop is still windows 7...I will try that tonight. fingers crossed!
So I tried on windows 7, and the RUU is able to get as far as the part that says updating signature, at which point it sits there for a few minutes, then gives me error 132 and tells me to download the correct rom update utility for my phone??!
Is there any chance that having twrecovery is causing this? If so, an ideas on how to go back to stock recovery?

[Q] R800at BootLoop

I have an Xperia play stuck in a boot loop I've searched everywhere and tried flashtool and Sony Pc companion but neither have worked. In flashtool I've already downloaded the .ftf loaded it in to the firmwares folder not to mention installed the Xperia play drivers. The main issue here is I can't boot into either fastboot or flash mode the phone is constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to the computer rendering any attempts useless. I've tried running a few commands through cmd but it only reads "waiting for device" and nothing happens. Booting it normally reaches the Sony Ericsson screen before it seems like the backlight shuts off then restarts. I say the backlight shuts off because I can still see the logo in the right light. Any help is appreciated.
Ps. I have not unlocked the bootloader nor installed a custom rom cwm is not installed either.
Try different usb cable and/or back usb ports of PC. But it might be hardware or even battery error...

Thanks for the reply I tried other cables and ports with no luck. It would be worth noting that before the device went into boot loop the touch screen had stopped responding and the 4 android buttons did not work. The gamepad was still functional. This is probably why I'm not able to boot into flash mode is there anything I can try(replace) to fix this other than calling it dead. Maybe a cable is being pinched by the sliding mechanism?

Well, touchscreen and front buttons mallfunction is classic sign of damaged slider flex cable. But i am still puzzled why it can't connect to PC normally. You could try and replace flex (it shouldn't be much expensive - even cheaper if you do it yourself) and see will that fix PC error.
For now, you could try to enter in flash/fastboot mode with slider open

[SOLVED]Can't go into flash mode

I'm trying to flash a FTF in FlashTool but my Xperia Play(R800a) isn't going into Flash Mode it just shows "Sony Ericsson" and then it starts charging. I have installed the drivers and even Unlocked the Bootloader via the TP method.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Solution:
This is what I have to do to get into Flash Mode
(RED=What was done different, Green=What was done the same)
1.Open FlashTool
2.Select Flash Mode
3.Select Firmware (FTF)
4.Wait till FlashTool tells you to connect your phone in Flash Mode
5.Remove Battery from phone
6.Connect phone while holding Back Button(With no Battery)
7.Insert battery
8.FlashTool will start Flashing the FTF, once done Reboot and enjoy
In order for this TO WORK Steps 6 and 7 have to be done REALLY FAST
Nobody Can Help?
Okay, I was able to go into Flash Mode in PCC but I still wasn't able to do it in FlashTool. I was also able to Root my phone but that didn't help ether. I also noticed that when the phone starts Charging after I failed to go into Flash Mode it says that Debugging is Off, witch is wrong(I do have Debugging On). Its also says that Debugging is Off when I first open flash tool and then connect the phone but it does recognizance Debugging On if I first connect my phone and then open FlashTool. Is Debugging the problem???
I also want to add that I have a Xperia X8 and FlashTool work fine with it.
Any body out there that had or has a problem like me???
Try different usb cable or different usb port on PC.
Also, does your back button working when you boot into rom?
Maybe updating flashtool might help...
Don't be confused with that "debugging off" message, because you only need it when you are in normal mode. There is no point /need/purpose for debugging when phone is in flash, fastboot or charging mode (nor it is possible). Flashtool only report lack of it, but since you don't need it, just ignore it)

I tried both a different Usb Cable and different Usb Port, I also tried it on a different PC. Yes the Back Button works when the ROM is already booted(and also worked when going into Flash Mode in PCC). I also have the latest version of Flash Tool.
Any other ideas to what might the problem be???

Maybe PCC and Flashtool are in conflict. Exit PCC (right-click on systray icon). Also, kill all adb.exe processes from task manager before starting flashtool.
If that don't work, try more desparate measures: uninstall and install again drivers or PCC or flashtool...
