[Q] What give the evo its peak performance - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What gives the evo is peak performance. Should not have alot of apps download or what are somethings i can do to my evo to make it performs perfect and yes my evo is rooted thanks and hope to hear from you soon. I am looking for good tips.

Find the right rom + kernel combination, overclick it, run the v6 supercharger script.

Yep....that's the ticket

Where can i find that.

You can only find good Roms/kernels by flashing them and finding one your phone likes (you must have root)... V6 supercharge is here on xda and you can download no frills CPU from the market that over/underclocks your phone, I would also suggest uninvisible tweaks and 3g optimize, apps to SD helps sometimes too...

Peak performance is salvagemod 1.3.1 with tiamat 3.3.7, over clocked, undervolted, with v6.
It is the smallest rom there is and it is very efficient

Why was I never told of this? Is it plain?

I switched to Evo deck, with the savaged zen kernel.
It's pretty damn snappy.
I underclocked it to 768mhz (there is a voltage spike anywhere above that), to save significant battery. Evo deck is so fast, you don't need the higher clock speeds.
I also disabled animations, set my governor to smartass, and I use opera mobile with turbo activated as my browser. Also I disabled surface dithering, locked my home app, and messenger in ram (evo deck barely uses ram), and switched to 16 bit transperancies. I run a power widget for power control, so there is no automated system constantly checking things, slowing me down.
Disabling or removing DSP also helps a bit, atleast when you have audio output.
Compared to cyanogen, evo deck seems to have way, way better battery life and is silky smooth, and I'm not sure why.
Very tiny download though.

Set cpu with stock kernel droid incredible

I just rooted my incredible and I'm using the kernel that came with it stock. I disabled perflock and I left the max speed to 998 and the min speed to 245.
When I'm not doing anything on my incredible, I see that the speed constantly changes from the max to the min. Not even one second passes before it just goes back and forth, back and forth. Is this normal?
Coming from the d1 where it would stay at the min when idle, I'm not sure if what's going on with my incredible is normal.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yes that's normal. For better battery life, I'd try a kernel with smartass governor. It spends more time on the lower frequencies.

Switching to a different kernel will give you the ability to overlook//underfoot the system needed.. this in turn increases battery life.. kingklick, ziggy's, chad's kernel are all well known kernels.. you will want to play with different kernels.. not every kernel will be stable to overlook to certain speeds on certain Rom's.. switching kernels is almost as addictive as switching roms.. always nandroid before flashing anything..
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Typos on my end.. underfoot = undervolt.. overlook = overlook.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Will those kernels work on my rooted stock incredible?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea! By stock i'm assuming all you did was root. I am currently running SkyRaider 3.5 Sense along with
"2.6.32.26-ubcredujuerbek-12082010 [email protected] #11"
I will edit with links to these two items.
SkyRaider 3.5 Sense - SkyRaider
Chad's Kernel - Incredikernel
My phone runs amazingly fast with sense but yet, even with heavy usage (Texting constantly, on the internet, gmail, even Fring) I can go an easy 24 hours on one charge. If my phone stays screen-off idle I could last at 95%-100% for several hours.
Yes, all I did was root.
Does the chad kernel provide wireless tether and will i still need to disable perflock in setcpu?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the non stock kernels all disable perflock already, you do not need to do it..
flash the kernel via clockwork, and you are set.. jump into setcpu and adjust some settings and add profiles.. you'll be golden..
What he said ^^

Not quite. I believe Lou's has some tweaks within perflock, so disabling it would lose those.
And most kernel devs, particularly Lou and the ones who use HAVS, advise against using SetCPU. I'd check with your chosen kernel thread for details.

Also, I wouldn't 'set on boot', at least till you find frequencies that your phone can handle safely. Otherwise, you'll get a 'crash' loop, where your phone starts up just fine, but once you go past the initial lockscreen it'll crash and reboot. Very annoying...

what rager said... ive put on kernels and ran em high only to get a "boot loop".. its tuff to get out of cause you need to get back into setcpu to scale back otherwise it keep on going.... i learned to put the setcpu app icon on my main screen so i can get there fast to scale back..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866736 can you install these with the stock rom. i wanted to experiment to get better battery life but didnt really want to install a different one.

Some. Make sure it's a sense version if you're using stock sense.

That exact thing happened to me...pissed me off like crazy at first I was clueless then I just did a restore

Yeah, if you let it boot loop too long it'll hard boot, which is where the phone cuts off completely. That has happened to me, and it ruins apps.

Set cpu help

Okay so I disabled the battery tweak and just started using set cpu. My set cpu doesn't have a lot of profiles or options even. I would like to know if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The profiles are user defined so if you havent made any, there won't be any to choose from. What are you trying to do?
I'm trying to make more profiles, or smarter ones. I wanna see what everyone else has..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Honestly, I don't even use profiles anymore, I just let HAVS do its thing. When I did use them, I used screen off @245 and low batt set to 15% @768.
A HAVS kernel?

Yep. When my phone sleeps, it really SLEEPS. I can go all night without losing a single % point.
This site has two profiles setup for SetCPU

I'm curious about what kernel to use. Kings#11 sucked, netarchy cfs was bad..and seems like the only one tolerable was stock but I need to have good battery power..I'm currently using ziggy471
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I am getting great battery life with MikFroyo and stock kernel. If you use a HAVS kernel be careful overclocking it, increasing CPU speed with decreased voltage from the HAVS can harm your phone
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm getting annoyed with these kernels. So far the only ones that work are ziggy471 and stock 17. I really want to switch to myns two point two rls 5. Problem with that is I don't want to upgrade my radio and lose something. So how do I upgrade without fixing the radios?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I updated my radios and then downgraded my PRI back to 1.77, its easy and works great.

Myns warm two point two and setcpu

Is it ok to use setcpu with a rom like myns warm two point two or is it not necessary?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Certainly OK, but useful... you'll get a lot of answers. I'll say it can be
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If your happy with the way your phone is running then why mess with it? Setcpu will work with it no problems but if you want to overclock then you will need to change kernels

Yeah I wasn't planning on issuing for overclocking, but for underclocking when the screen is off.

SetCPU is useful regardless of ROM or Kernel. The ability to select different profiles and CPU settings based on need or battery life is always nice. I would set my default to "On Demand" and max 998 min 128. Then enable profiles and set it up how you like. I perfer to drop my cpu way down while charging, wayyy down for screen off, and hero style 528 for 50% or less battery.
If you do opt for a different kernel make sure it is one that is listed in Myn's post, otherwise it will bork your Spare Parts app.

Overclock and kernel question

I would like to boost my performance a little bit either through another kernel or overclocking or both. How do you overclock the Dinc, and do some kernels overclock better than others? Thanks for any help.
Certain kernels have higher overclocking ceilings than others but none are "better", per se, for overclocking. Check out setCPU or CM7 has overclocking preferences built in.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Ok cool.
I am running cm7 but also have setcpu, is one preferred over the other? And as far as overclocking, do you just start increasing the speed slowly until you get it where you want or it becomes unstable?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would just use the built in OC of CM7, I've heard that using both can cause conflicts. And yes, just bump up your frequency bit by bit and if you start getting reboots or freezes, dial it back. For AOSP kernels, I've founds incredikernel to work really well, then invisiblek, then tiamat. Though incredikernel does have a lower OC ceiling than the others.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
"kernel manager pro" in the market may also be useful for you. It keeps up to date on which kernels work specifically for your device and you can flash from the app. I'm currently using Tiamat 4.0.2. It will clock to 1228MHz

[Q] Best kernel to use with the Kinged SHOOTER E3D Rom?

I would just like to know which kernel works best with this rom as far as performance and battery life?

What kind of battery life are you getting?
I am using GM that is baked with the ROM and it works great. I tried Freedom and I received a lot of FC. I set SetCPU to 998/245 and I am getting around 15 hrs with moderate use.
So if i use the stock kernel and setcpu app with this rom, will this make any difference on performance &/or battery life?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I'm getting 14-15 hours with light use.You can use setcpu with the stock kernel to enforce lower clock speeds with the screen off.The newer kernels may have it built in but I prefer to use setcpu so I know exactly what's happening.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
TY! I got 15 hrs on stock and no setcpu, but something i did notice about this rom is the display goes to the top brightest setting on its own and the icons disappear from the home screen after a reboot.... but awesome rom so far!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Havnt run into the brightness issue, for the apps disappearing, after a reboot, choose a scene other than the one you normally run and then change it back to the one you normally use and the icons will be back to normal.

Poonsense runs pretty good with it, also has the hdmi mirroring which i love to use
