Still a work in progress- and it built on the international version. But looks like its still a top priority phone that is being worked on for ICS!!

i am seriously LUSTING for ics on the T989. things like this makes me think were on the brink of eternal happiness...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
something i did notice is that if we get a port similar to this....will we have to have the on screen buttons?
i mean thats like a good portion of our screen.....couldnt they make our touch buttons use those functions?!! idk just a thought

even if we dont get a port samsung has already said were getting it so im not worried either way ,i think id rather a build that was made for our phones then worked over and optimised by the devs on here than a port from another phone ...im completely happy with my phone now the way it is, i can wait for the update
He but the question is when?...
Look at the vibrant update to 2.2 it took forever. And the s4g as well. It's barely getting 2.3!
If samsung wants to knock competition off they have to get. It asap!

I think it will help though that they are releasing the ICS on the Galaxy Nexus though. They've had all this time to work with it before other phone suppliers. ya know?

im sure they want the galaxy nexus to be the only phone with it for a couple months to help sales then i expect them to roll out the updates, IMO 5mp camera and no external storage make the nexus a huge fail in my eyes

I really hope this phone gets an update. From what I understand the Vibrant still has not been updated to Gingerbread.
something you didnt notice, is that its an alpha build and they said very publically they are going to remove the buttons, if you see the build on the optimus 3d it doesnt have the on screen buttons, its just a feature they have to figure out how to turn on!

I have tried Alpha 9, there is sound, wifi, bt, network. no camara, microphone, problems to install applications from market, some live wallpapers dont work. can't wait release....
You can remove the buttons in the launcher. I'll wait till ics is stable on are phone. Gingerbread still has it problems till i can move to it.

Could you tell us if space still plans to finish a new honeycomb for tabs, or has he maybe given up on it? I ask because I see from other threads that he is helping out other devs and that he has bricked his tabs.
Please notice that I'm not asking any "when" questions. I love my tab and I plan to keep it as long as possible and it would be great to one day have a tab optimised operating system on it

The reason behind me not releasing a GSM version of anything...
I dont own a GSM tablet. I dont have the funds to buy a GSM tablet, and I own CDMA tablets.
Plus, lets be honest here, there are enough GSM dev's out there to choke a horse, to stab each other in the back and steal stuff, lie , and generally BS others.
But, it comes down to me not having a GSM tablet.

Great news! We can only hope our neglected E4GT gets some ICS love soon too.
EDIT: Apparently it's been said this is just an ICS launcher...
Still some pretty cool mods though hey! I wouldn't mind the fast switch program he had. Its the same one I got on my galaxy tab 10.1 ICS will get here eventually amd when it does I hope it changes the android expereince with lots of eye candy and fun features. Hope it really takes advantage of our 1gig ram and fast internal storage and is coded specificly for duel core cpu's. How sweet would thay be !

there is a ICS launcher that looks just like that and the status bar is wrong i think its the launcher with a themed bar

Google WANTS Ice Cream Sandwich
It was my understanding that Google wants as many devices as possible to be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich as soon as possible to push developers in to moving their current applications to this platform and that Google basically wants previous versions including Honey Comb to go the way of the Dodo or the Dinosaur. So this could mean that we would see an upgrade fairly quickly for our devices so as to reduce fragmentation.

All that tells us it they're working on an update (which we already knew, since they have known bugs they're trying to resolve), and it's full of placeholder text. The only version is mentions is 2.3.3, and we're on 2.3.4. So clearly not an indication of any actually useful information.

Thanks - I couldn't figure out why they thought that link had anything to do with ICS.
Of course if they really wanted a shock and awe campaign tomorrow, just imagine if the top 10 Android devices all got an update to ICS tomorrow

I would also think the Epic Touch would get this update. The question is will Samsung do it in a timely manner and how many times will they have to pull the update.
Because it appears to be a GSM & HSPA vs CDMA & Wimax difference, I'm hoping the conversion goes smoothly. I know that the OG Epic is still on froyo, but they had different radios AND a keyboard AND a different Touchwiz version.
But maybe I'm just being unreasonably optimistic.
The question is when do we get it? And I'm guessing based on Samsung's past it will be january at the earliest and more likely march/april

That would be a crime to wait until March to get ICS. I think Samsung gets it now, at least I hope they do. To compete against Apple and HTC, it's time to step up.
The only way you're going to see ICS on this phone before March is if CM9 gets a RC out before then.
Like others have said before, outside the North America, the phone manufacturer usually does the upgrades. Here we have to wait for the particular cell company. Like the previous poster said, ICS will probably come from the CM team long before we will see it from Sprint.

Also I think it uses up too much space on a phone-size screen. Would be fine on a tablet, like Honeycomb is. But I do like the capacitive buttons.
They, Google, did say back when they released Honeycomb that they were going to leave a way to easily map the hardkeys to these new on screen softkeys....so you wouldn't need to lose that screen area. I like the capacitive hardkeys. We will see what future phones bring.....I do think though that buttons are a dying feature unfortunately.
The Galaxy S2 series is Samsungs pride and joy. I would be surprised if they wouldn't update all of them to ICS. Samsung is proving to be the top dog when it comes to Android devices so they will need to update there phones if they want to have repeat business. This is my first Samsung smartphone and I am sure a lot of other people came from HTC devices as well so they need to prove themselves now.
Didnt Samsung make a promise to Google to keep all current phones updated for 16 months after release?
I say this as an original epic user still using Froyo. That being said, the original epic was not part of the promise.
I wish i knew for sure if Samsung was going to be better about updates on your phone so i could jump ship. I was hoping for more from the Galaxy Nexus plus it may not even come to Sprint.

More reassurance of what, exactly? They're still capacitive, they're just mapped to onscreen visuals instead of taking up space beneath they screen. They're also more dynamic and able to shift appearance and function as the OS is upgraded instead of locking us into permanent buttons that may be deprecated (i.e. the menu key they're trying to move away from) or replaced with new ones (the app-switching key that replaces our holding down the Home key). I have no issue with it. Seems more versatile.

The resolution makes up for the loss of screen area, and the loss of screen area depends on the app. Many are full-screen and hide them. Anyway, if you run the emulator at 800x480 you'll see the keys aren't present and the hardware keys function fine. All this support was baked right in, so we're safe. Plus Google made it clear MANY months ago that ICS would have no new hardware requirements over Gingerbread and Honeycomb.
I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.

To be honest im gonna get bashed for this but ill state some things i've notice..I've been following xboarders work since the sensation which he was accused of kanging from the CM team and threw a ***** fit hence the "they dont like me"you guys must of heard from xboarder himself. So he left the sensation community and his rom to kristofpetho i believe or was it melvin, cant remember its been awhile. Then he received a donated amaze 4g and soon enough he was working on asop ics which was never finished..Then lef tthe amaze to work on a donated skyrocket with the same tactics luring ppl to think he's building a asop ics rom..so far nuttin's been finished but a ported sense 3.5 rom for the amaze i think he kanged RC team..I say this because i seen a post NRGZ28 said about it and xboarder quickly replied pm me and that was the end of discussion..The sense 3.5 can be arguable however cause its just speculations of a post i have no real facts if its kanged..I understand he's just a kid and he's working, testing on his own but the facts is there just browse like i said i've been following him since we've had the same phones..I know im not a dev and havent put out anything but im learning and im thankful for the righteous devs that we do have.Just sucks ppl donated to him..This isnt a i hate xboarder post i have nuttin against him i just dont like shady ppl..

He doesn't have a Hercules. He has a Skyrocket.

I'm guessing there will be a donation thread to come very soon. Call it a hunch but I have a feeling that it's coming.

I like howxda has been going down hill because people assume the worst in others. He's making something from scratch and you expectit to be perfect. bricking your phone more than once seems kind of expected when you are working by yourself and testing experimental builds in your own phone. I believe he never purchased a new phone so maybe that is why Samsung is not replacing it.

He sent back before. He is saying they won't do it again. He says the jtag won't work cause his cpu is dead.
I think the kid hit a wall and doesn't want to admit defeat. Considering, how he was treating the other guys trying to work on ics.
He said he was going to release a 4th preview in a day. That was a week and a half ago. So.. I think it's too hard for him.
Without drivers cyanogen and slayher haven't got an alpha build. So this kid was full of cap from the start.
