[Q] tethering problem with WPA-PSK (CM7) - Defy General

Anyone has wifi problem about WPA-PSK?
Wifi crashed after a few minutes while tethering with wpa-psk encryption.
and sometimes stop working with wpa-psk access point (still connected)
It is no problem in wifi and tethering without encryption.
I have try to wipe data/factory setting and it solved.
but.. when I install more app, it's happen again.
android task killer kill the process of wpa-psk??

Did you get this sorted in the end?
I see no WPA option in CM7 for the portable hotspot, just clear and WPA2. (unlike stock Sense on my HTC Sensation which supports clear, WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption).

My new defy+ also is missing WEP,WPA options.
The first time i used it had all these options but for some reason i had to factory reset and now i have only two options, no encryption and WPA2.
If i use WPA2 the connection is really bad.I get 45kb/s max download speed with my laptop and if i disable the encryption i get full speed ~400-500kb/s.

wifi using WPA2

Hi everybody,
A question re., conecting my Desire to the WiFi on my computer. I am using WPA2 for security and the phone will not conect. Is there a fix for this problem, download etc?
the phone excepts WEP but I prefer the stronger protection of WPA2.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Hi Paul,
To be honest from what i know your better off using WPA as apposed to WPA2 unless you use your WAN for corporate purposes, all your doing is weighing down the packets of data further with more encryption thus slowing your network in general. I've used WPA with mac/linux/windoze for years with no problems!
Paul, you might try changing the password and re-entering it. It's a pain to do it, but it's all I can think of. I'm using WPA2 with a strong password no problem. It's slow entering all the characters but you only have to do it once, assuming you set it up right. Modern computers, routers, and smart phones should have no problem handling WPA2 encryption. The latency out on the Internet is worse than any slowdown from locked-down WiFi. Your router is likely capable of far greater speeds than you are getting from your ISP, anyway.
I'm assuming you are having trouble connecting the Desire to your WiFi router, right? You said "connecting to your computer" in the question, but I think you are trying to connect to the WiFi hotspot in your house/office/whatever. If you are trying to connect directly between the Desire and your computer (tethering, for example) then that's something totally different.
Try and just reset the password on the router to something really simple and try that first. If it works, you probably typed something wrong or something simple like that. Go back once you get it working and choose a much stronger password then. Good luck.
yes i have the wpa2 and i use a very long password without problems...try forgetting it from settings and reentering its info
wifi using wpa2
Thanks guys for your replys, I will try out your sugestions and get back to you.

Wireless tether for root users, can't use encryption

So I was trying out the new wpa2 encryption on wifi tether and noticed that when I had it turned on I couldn't connect, but soon as I turned off encryption it connected just fine. This is occurring with all 3 versions of wifi tether for evo 4g, both WPA2 and WEP.
I don't recall seeing WPA2 as a choice in the wifi tether I am using. I did use WEP with no problems though.
it's the new one on their site 2.0.5
I have been able connect with encryption. When connected on my laptop, XP showed it as WPA2.
If you are using XP, make sure you have the WPA2 encryption hotfix. I had this issue with my laptop on my home wireless because it's wpa2 which XP doesn't natively support without a hotfix.

[Q] Wifi keeps disconnecting

I'm getting very annoying Wifi disconections all the time, like every 1-2 min my wifi disconnects and reconnects in a while.
I think I tried everything possible:
- Battery manager -> all settings (maximum performance, battery saver..)
- Wifi settings -> "never" sleep, "sleep when screen off", "never sleep when plugged"...
But still wifi disconnects all the time and it is very irritating when browsing.
Is there any fix to this?
P.S. it seems that while talking on skype the connection is active and does not disconnects even for hours!
Any ideas?
I think Defy (at least some) has Wifi issues. My problem is, as soon as I try to download anything (i.e. Market app) all devices connected to my router drop their conenctions, so as my Defy. I found it very annoying.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread by the way.

Do you have Bluetooth enabled on your Defy and/or other devices? It might interfere with WiFi signal.
Try to use static IP-addresses for the devices attached to your router.
May try disabling 802.11n in the router and/or defy. And try using wpa2-psk if not yet.
Many people (including myself) have solved their wifi issues by updating their sim and I recommend getting a uicc sim. T-Mo asked me to go to one of their wifi hot-spots and see if I still had connection issues. I did. So they gave me a uicc sim and I currently have zero connection problems. But, that's just me.

hehe i know what you mean. I had that issue for so long time.. At the end, solved by these steps:
1) router's firmware was upgraded to the latest version (don't understimate this!)
2) from the router's config page, i assigned a static ip for my Defy
3) i switched the router from N to G mode.
Now it's stable and all works well, no disconnections any more!
PS. Netgear dgn1000
ok then, my "router" is acutally a wifi PCI card that tethers internet using Conectify.me
I do not have bluetooth or any other wireless devices enabled.
I'm using wpa2-psk as well as 802.11g.
What is that uicc sim? I don't think that t-mob UK have that kind of sim
Tried using static/dinamic IP address with no difference
Weird thing is that while on skype call the wifi did not disconnects even for hours.
And if I leave a skype call on background I can surf the net ...but I have to bother someone all the time

Wifi issues - solved - use TKIP rather than AES
I had the same problem.
Changed security settings on wireless N router from AES to TKIP and works fine.
Seems that defy has some sort of problem with AES security.
When I was on 3.4.3-11 based Roms this problem was happening, but when I switched to 3.4.2-155-002 and others my problem was solved. Try barebones, xd1 or jboogie rom's.
try:
the defy CAN´T handle router with WMM + 802.11n standart.
Log in to your router an turn off WMM or switch the wifi from 802.11n to 802.11g

tried 11n w/o WMM, still have connectivity issue, now sticking with 11g only.
try ,Routing respectively into 11g 11b

[Q] Data connection sharing (wifi hotspot) enabled on boot

Is there a way to have the wifi hotspot feature in wm6.5 enabled as default on boot (so as not to have to enable it by hand everytime on boot)
Also is there a version of WM6.5 that has WPA rather than WEP encryption for the wifi hotspot feature?
Thanks
xdandroid has that wap, thing

[Q] Hellfire 2.8 wifi authentication issue

I just installed Hellfire 2.8 on my galaxy s3 and it works perfect except for connecting to WiFi. Every time i try to connect to my WiFi I get Authentication Problem. I looked all over and couldn't find anything to fix this problem. Any suggestions?
Set Router Authentication to Open then try. If that works then try WEP.
Not all Roms implement WPA2 encryption the same way. Your router and phone could be talking different lingo.
My authentication type is set to auto and for my router that means it allows open and shared but there is also no way of changing this since it is greyed out. I looked all over cisco's site and found nothing to allow me to change this
That is strange. I am sure there should be an option. Is yours a N router?
Never mind i found out how to change it. Not the best idea to change it to wep since my router claims it would get best rates out of wpa/wpa2
Yes WPA2 is more secure but stability before higher security
