How do I create a radio/PRI/WiMax update file?

How do I make my own backup of the Radio/PRI/WiMax etc? I have a few friends that I helped root their phones and they refuse to go to a different rom to update their radio. Also, the radio updates posted always seem behind by 2 or 3 versions. I just want to know how to go about making my own. Can I use terminal emulator?
What 'posted' radio updates are you referring to that always seem to be behind? The ones posted in Calkulin's thread are all up to date.

None. That thread is kept up to date and is complete.
When I update via a sense rom it always gives me a newer PRL. In my town, the PRL is updating almost daily as sprint screwed up the towers. The main thing I want is to update the PRL. I just figured I would better myself and learn to do it myself.

I didn't think there was. Thanks for the confirmation......Anyway, to the OP, this tutorial *might* be helpful to you in regard to making your own update script.

Oh I see. Please know that the PRL (Preferred Roaming List) is generally not something that is user generated. A brief description of the PRL can be read HERE. Also, it is different from the PRI found listed among the radio information (baseband, PRI, NV, WiMAX & Hboot).

New to Samsung phones

Hello,
I have always had an HTC phone and all this EK02 and E4GT stuff makes no sense to me... I am afraid to flash any of the roms because I don't know what EK02 or E4GT i have or if my phone is compatible with that.
I just got my Epic 4g Touch and I rooted using this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EwEYVB_ut4 .
Hopefully I do no get flamed for this because I am a new so please bare with me.
I wanted to use this ROM ([ ROM / 11-19 ] Calkulin's E4GT v1.5a [EG31 l Fast l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script])
But I was wondering what info I need to see if I can flash to this.
My phone is STOCK but rooted.
Here is other info.... *** 2.3.4 / S710.10.S.EG30 / 2.6.35.7-LoStKernel+ / GINGERBREAD.EG30 ***
Thanks in advance.

EK02 is the more recent modem, kernel, and ROM update (Android 2.3.6). Supposedly fixes LoS
EG30 was the official build before EK02.
EG31 is a patch for EG30 in attempt to fix Loss of Signal problems.
Just a heads up, if you flash Cal's ROM, which has an EG31 modem, you can't update your modem to EK02.

Hmmmm.... Weird.... So I don't know what to do damn it lol...
Because if I go to the EK02 modem which is the latest, I am assuming there is barely any roms for it or something?
But if I stay on EG31 with Cal's ROM, then I will be stuck with an older modem....
Blah...
If you flash the EK02 modem you can still take your pick of ROMs just remember that you can't go back to EG30 only EG31 or EG12 but as of now nobody has said EK02 is worse than EG30 or 31.

Ah ok. I assume the update for ICS will most likely be something newer than EK02?
If so, can I just download [ ROM ] Stock Rooted EK02 System [ OS 2.3.6 ], and install it through my ClockWork Recovery?
Or do I need to download the modem by itself and install it, then install the [ ROM ] Stock Rooted EK02 System [ OS 2.3.6 ]

[Q] Info on EL29, EH17, SRF12, & what they mean

Not sure what these numbers and letters mean....
Mine sais EL29, so i only flashed the ROM (Blazer ROM 4.0) that had all the same information as my phone displayed under "About Phone"....
This page http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=716 has a list of ROMs, a few of which i would like to use. Specifically the new ICS leaks (Hurry up SPRINT, release the ICS ALREADY!!)...
My question is... is the "EL29" "EH17" "SRF12" and all those others the firmware versions? Modem Versions? What are these? If a ROM specifies this information anywhere, will i have to upgrade or downgrade to the appropriate files (Or firmware) before flashing the ROM? I have no idea what these are or what they mean.
From what i've read and picked up, i know that some of these things will have to be done through ODIN and I think I read that some other things can be done through CWM, like flashing the ROM itself.
I just need a little more information on how flash ROMs properly concerning what needs to be done BEFORE you flash a new one
Things I already know:
1.) Must install a ROM compatible with your phone (DUH)
2.) Sometimes you gotta use ODIN (Is this only for root? Or do you use this to upgrade/downgrade modem firmware or something, too ?)
Also, what other file exensions should I be familiar with and what do they do? I just want to be able to modify my phone with no problems and a collection of links and bookmarks for me to pull it off. I'm not trying to be a programmer (yet =)
Any links specific to my questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

WRONG SECTION
your looking for the epic touch this is the one with the keyboard.
But to answer your questions those are firmware versions that the ROM's are based on for our phone anyways.

Well, we can still help...
EL29:
E = 2011
L = 12
29 = 29
So if this is a ROM, the base version was built on December 29, 2011 (apparently samsung employees worked the holidays...). If this is the modem version, guess what, the modem was built on December 29, 2011.
So to recap, the first letter is for the year, the second for the month and the last two for the day.
SRF1.2 = Syndicate ROM Frozen. This is an older ROM, based off of EC05 (March 5, 2011), and by the name, Android 2.2 (Frozen Yogurt). I don't know if there was an SRF for the Epic touch.

I already petitioned the mods and the big mods refused. That is why Jay posted the Non-Touch stickies but the problem with that is accessing with an app you don't see the stickies unless you click on that subject. Viewing from a PC also has a picture of our phone with keyboard open.

No need to unroot, just wait for the rooted version of the ROM and flash that The rooted version of stock ROM is usually out the same day or a few days after the official realease.
If you update to L710VPLI3 using a rooted ROM do you also need to separately update the radios. Always been a bit confused with radios vs. software ROM. Does enhance LTE (which I use daily) come from software update or radio update.

You usually have to flash modems (aka radios) separatly, depends on the dev. Well, only saw one dev include it but he created a separate tool to flash modems that is linked below.
Seems that modems were not updated in this release and the LTE optimization is more a software fix. You find the latest modems here and here is the easiest way to flash without Odin.

So I gather that if I just flash any ROM that is based on new LI3 then I will have the upgrade enhancement regarding LTE. Great. I hate having to unroot or reflash stock recovery to take OTA. Thanks.

get ready to have all the bloatware re installed.
my gf has the epic 4g touch. it was stock rooted and the very last update a few days ago re installed all bloatware and went further ahead by disabling the option to disable some of the apps that previously could be uninstalled through application manager. also it took away root so i had to stock re root her phone.
if updates were just performance enhancements i would welcome them but, why do carriers always insist on pushing their crap into our phones??

Baseband = modem
Build = Rom
They don't have to match to work together. I'm running an LG8 Rom with the LIF modem. Sometimes you can get better signal strength that way.

Cool thnx Bro yea i wasnt getting the LI3 OTA update but my wifes got it like a week ago and i didnt have any patience
Okay so the next logical question should then be, how do I know which ones will work together and is there rule of thumb when upgrading? i.e. Rom version should always match the package? (if that makes sense)

Yeah the link is back to the original thread
FYI, most folks tend to keep the modem version in sync with the rom version.
Also Fyi, there were binary comparisons done with several of the baseband releases that came with the leaks that proved the only thing that was changed on MOST of them was the version number. No internal code changes were done.
When Samsung sends Sprint a package, it includes the baseband package as well, even if nothing was changed but the version number.
