[Q] 32GB HSPA+ Version - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I tried to see if this was asked already. Mods, please delete if so.
After reading/watching The Verge review, it is mentioned that the HSPA+ version will only come in a 16GB option. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm sure, like me, a lot of people here were planning to get a 32GB HSPA+ version. Thanks.

i'll only get the 32GB version, there's no point getting the 16GB version
and yes we need GSM HSPA+ for Tmo/ATT

i think The Verge may be getting confused...since the UK is the only place that has the phone at the moment, and it's already been confirmed that the UK is only getting the 16GB version, they may be taking that as being a blanket designation for all the HSPA+ handsets.
The japanese NTT Docomo advert quite clearly states that it is available in 16GB & 32GB capacities.

We really don't know right now. Indicators are that the UK HSPA+ version is 16 and the US LTE version is 32, but that's just because we really don't know too much more than that right now...

And that is a big reason why the launch of this reeks. No details.

Yup, I agree. This is getting really annoying.

the *****ing and moaning would be a lot more tolerable if say google said something like the unlocked gsm/hspa+ version would be available unlocked in the usa like january 3 or something. something to look forward to at least. we'd still whine 'why the hell give verizon exclusivity?' and such but again at least we'd have something to look forward to.

Just looked on google.com/nexus... I am disappointed.
When you select United States at the bottom and go to the tech specs, under data it says CDMA/LTE; however, when you select United Kingdom, under data it says 3G/EDGE/GPRS.
I'm beginning to think that in the US there will be only a LTE/Verizon nexus

i think the only 32gb nexus will be the thicker verizon unit... i could be wrong. but if you have seen any other evidence of a gsm 32gb variant ..please point it out. i have seen nothing

Samsung on FB said the UK will only get the 16GB "initially" .. meaning there is a 32GB GSM, it just won't hit until...Dec/Jan? My guess is around the time (or exactly when) the GSM Nexus comes to the US.

It wasn't an interpretation Samsung literally used the word "initially" in their reply on Facebook.

Im holidaying in the US of A near the end of December, will it be possible for me to buy a 32gig 3g/gsm/hsdpa etc etc model of the Galaxy Nexus unlocked anywhere??? Its either I wait to get it when im there or I can just buy a Galaxy Note model now..
This is a bit ridiculous of google having all this advertising, pretty looking girls smiling into the camera using the phone etc and having absolutely no info on where/when/what (32gig GSM or only 16g??)
Dont advertise until ALL the details are available, it just pisses off people who want one!
(and why must Samsung always leave out one bit from each phone, no galaxy notes with nfc available yet? and nexus with no sdcard if the note had nfc/ics i'd get it now instead of the nexus)

Interesting to see that the UK Galaxy nexus page shows tech specs of 32 gb.
As long a 32 gb hspa+ is release, either in UK or US, i don't care. The phone is pentaband.....

There is no indication whatsoever that Google will sell an unlocked GSM version in the US. The only info we have now is the CDMA/LTE Verizon version for the states.

I need a GSM 32GB...
I don't want to get it months later though

Handtec has a listing for the 32GB GSM model, and predicts an after New Years launch. When asked if they know for sure, they said Samsung hasn't told them anything

best guess it'll be sometimes in March 2012 before you see it's appearance for the 32GB GSM version

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Nexus to Canada...?

Hi guys,
Sorry if this has already been posted but I've been researching but couldn't find anything. I couldn't find any release dates for Canada except for the UK on November, 17, 2011, but now I'm hearing it's being delayed until the 2nd of December. Anyone got any idea of when this phone will come out in Canada? Or even if it's coming to Canada? Thanks for the help.
It's coming to Canada, but no one knows the release date. Here's a Mobilesyrup (Phone blog run by Canadians) hands on of the phone: http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/11/09/samsung-galaxy-nexus-hands-on-video/

They showed it on CTV two days ago, which is owned by Bell.
Also, a Phandroid member said their store was visited by a Bell corporate Rep recently, and the Rep said it was coming to Bell around Christmas.
Keep in mind this is some random person on reddit...
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/maz4c/galaxy_nexus_coming_to_canada_on_rogers_for_launch/
Sometime in November sounds better than Bell at Christmas, if there's any truth to it...
A friend of mine was recently in a Rogers store looking for a new phone. She ended up getting an EVO 3D that they had on for $0.01, but she said the guy in the store was telling her all about the Nexus. I might stop by a Rogers store tomorrow and see what they say.
Would it even matter what provider got it first, I thought these things are unlocked anyways?

It should be unlocked, and that's exactly why one carrier getting it "sometime in November" is better for everyone than another carrier not having it until Christmas.
Of course, the carrier that gets it first might still matter to some people if they want to buy on contract...

Bell and Virgin Mobile now both have official Galaxy Nexus pages, with their own sign-up forms. No date other than "early December" so far, but this is the first official carrier confirmation I've seen in Canada, so it's still good news.

Would a Bell.ca phone be compatible on T-Mobile US? They don't use LTE, so I assume it is the GSM version. Would probably be a lot cheaper then importing from europe...
Most Canadian carriers, including Bell, are compatible with AT&T for 3G or 4G HSPA+ and not T-Mobile.
However... the Galaxy Nexus is a peta-band phone so it would work on any of them, including T-Mobile so importing would work.
EDIT: Bell and Rogers do both have LTE in a number of locations in Canada, but it's not very likely they'll be using the LTE version.

Not until January though. I'm considering switching to Bell when they have it in early December, after 11 years with Rogers. Rogers also has hardly any HSPA+ coverage in Nova Scotia, while Bell has it over the whole province, so Bell getting the Galaxy Nexus first might just make me switch...

It could only be the HSPA+ version, as the CDMA/LTE version works ONLY on Verizon's network. I would guess Future Shop would be selling them for Bell or Virgin (can anyone confirm?). It should be unlocked (Nexus S was), but we won't know for sure until someone gets one and reports.

Does Canada use FCC, or is this really for AT&T?

Just posted by Phandroid via WirelessGoodness:
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/02/gal...me/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Phandroid says not likely for AT&T, but WirelessGoodness says it is for AT&T. Which is why I asked if Canada uses FCC - as I thought that was a US red-tape that we used?
P.S. Oh, and if this comes to AT&T before T-Mobile, I am really going to be sad!
Ignore this...
Even if its not meant for the US directly, if it can be used in the US they have to pass it through the FCC. So because this model has 850/1900 (which AT&T uses) they have to clear it in the FCC.
Just like a while back we saw the UK version pass through the FCC as well.
I personally have no idea what the deal is with them passing it through again. The article makes it sound like it isn't pentaband...
Oops...........
I saw a post about the CA version possibly having a micro SD slot... Here's the link to the samsung page. http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification
I wonder if this is accurate of just a typo of some sort

Thank you for your response, as I was curious about this. I didn't think Canada (or any other country for that matter) used the FCC. So I'll be curious what becomes of this.
Also, it gives me a little hope (and some disapointment) that maybe the US GSM versions won't be penatband - meaning that maybe the T-Mobile version (when it comes) will be HSPA+ 42? (As displayed in the GN event live feed we all watched).
The bad of course is, that if it's not pentaband - as that would have been a nice feature to have, it work on either carrier and more of a "world" phone.

They should all be pentaband. The FCC just doesn't test bands that are not relevant for the US.

Confirmed : Galaxy Nexus On The Way To ATT with 4G LTE

Though this may come as no surprise to some we have just received word from a very very good source that an unconfirmed number of AT&T SIM Cards (RS# 17-0700 and likely 4G LTE) for the Galaxy Nexus are going out for testing as we speak. Curiously the SIMS are standard and not the micro like Verizon Wireless. This means of course we can finally certify the release of Samsung and Google’s latest collaboration will be hitting AT&T in the very near term. I have to protect my source but this is coming from very close to the situation. We will keep you posted as more details come about. Are you on AT&T and have been waiting for the the official release of the G-Nex you can count on it soon enough. We broke this right here and we expect to be credited this time. Thanks.
Update: Our tipster just added that the SKU for these SIM cards is 73057 and that they do seem to be 4G LTE enabled!!!!

Bet you $50 it's only HSPA+. Note, that the email only said it was "likely" LTE. They're speculating. Then note that they're using MiniSIM not micro. The whole reason why they use MicroSIM in Toro is because they couldn't fit the LTE antennas and logic chips and the full sized SIM in the already larger housing.

Yeah kinda strange.
When I switched to the LTE-enabled data plan with an LTE phone IMEI number, they had to give me a new LTE SIM for my GSM GN. So maybe the article meant LTE SIM going to the field with GN test units?

I think you are right.
After receiving my new GN last Friday, I went to the local AT&T store to get a data plan. Contrary to AT&T ads there is no 4G in South Florida. My phone gets what is available: H+. I just had to move the Sim card from my Nexus One to the GN.
Since my Galaxy Nexus is not an AT&T I have no obligation to buy a data plan. I might drop mine after reading the speedtest
To Clarify
Since our entire post has been repasted here i felt the need to clarify. The SIMS are not at all phone specific and not sure how that was insinuated in the post. There is more information I may be cleared to release as to why it was necessary for these SIMS to go out and an enterprising mind that thinks on it for a while can probably figure it out. The problem is I cannot yet tell folks where the SIMS were coming from and where they were going. I also know how many SIMS there were. If I get cleared to release that info I promise to update the information. Lets for the sake of argument put the SIM card aspect aside. The important part is the document in question confirms the existence of the handset in question. Number one rule of journalism is protect your source. If i gave out that information that would put him/her at considerable risk. I promise there will be more info soon.

It would be shocking if AT&T wasn't buying USIM's without a LTE logo. Yes, logo. There is no physical difference between a UMTS 3G USIM and one used in LTE devices.
SOURCE: Gemalto, who makes most of the SIM's for AT&T
Damn and I just paid $498 for a GSM to use on AT&T. However LTE in my area is delayed so LTE model would be useless to me. Plus AT&T branding and bloat ware Yuck!
I have two upgrades in May due. If anything Id rather get a One X for $199 hopefully to try out and still keep my Nexus. Never tried Sense so who knows. I really just like the look and screen quality of the One X. I could always sell it for $500 if it doesn't work out.

we have photographs of these sims with no LTE logo thanks to our friends at radio shack so im sorry that is not entirely true. Also we know these SIMS have been being used since the 4th quarter of last year so we are aware that there is no difference. For some of you there won't be truth to it until the phone is announced but it's funny those are the people who scrutinize speculation the most. We have clarified the original story on our site for those people and for now we will wait and see. I'm only here commenting because my story is here. I don't care to convince anyone specific of it's validity, as for our readers, us reporting it makes it valid enough.

So I hope you are right, but will not be shocked if you are not.

[Q] galaxy nexus 16GB & 4G LTE difference

hi everyone
so, I was watching a review of Galaxy Nexus because I'm gonna buy one,
& I crossed over this only in Cnet's review, they said 16 GB one is unlocked, & also the 4G one is thicker as they showed.
now my question is if I buy the 32 one, can I unlock it later? myself?
& also if it's true 16GB is thinner, how thin is it in hand? because I already took one 32GB in hand & it was not that bad to take in hand
Unlock it to use on a GSM network? No (at least not as far as I know), the internal hardware in Toro (32GB version) is different than that in Maguro (16GB version).
The thickness isn't really too noticeable for me, depending on what phone you are coming from you probably won't notice a huge difference when held compared to the Toro model, It has a nice quality feel no matter which one you choose.
I hope this helps!
The 4G is used on CDMA, there's not point in unlocking it as you couldn't use it on another CDMA carrier's 4G (such as Sprint).
The 16 GB is GSM, not CDMA. So depending on what network you plan on using it on, that should dictate which one to use.
Since I'm on Tmo, the GSM is the one for me.

Well actually, some GSM 32 GB WERE sold a LONG time ago, near launch. Samsung quickly discontinued this model however, and made it a CDMA exclusive for some reasons (only reason I envy my gfs Sprint Gnex).
Anyways, I've seen a few sell on eBay, but as far as everyone knows, they stopped making them, and I don't see why they'd start selling them exclusively there. Maybe a misprint?

(like as u know these people release some ROMs according to the device model number for some brands)

Should not have problems.
No, the only change would be the 32 vs 16 gb storage. All GSM are maguro models.

No.. they were never sold as 32GB and GSM. It was a rumor. The "pre orders" were sold but no one got an actual device.

I saw a few on eBay when I was shopping for my Nexus, this one is the only one that shows up. Maybe I'll find another.

64gb note 3

Anyone heard anything about availabilty for tmobile or any other carrier for that matter? Ive heard costco would be recieving 64gb stock in but still not seeing anything show up. It always seems to good to be true when they say theyll be offering phones in 32-64gb options than it takes longer than expected if not ever to show up.
Carriers and Samsung need to understand there is huge demand for more internal space as the games and apps on playstore are being allowed to get larger and larger daily. If anything ill settle for the 32gb and buy a 128gb sdxc external but I just wanted to know if anyone has seen anything about this..

As far as Samsung has listed/reported is the SM-9000 as a 64gb option. No others are listed with that capacity.
P.S. How do get the Note 3 to see a 128gb card ?

Easy, just pop it in and format it. All these newer phones have always been able to use more than advertised sdcard space, they just dont think people need it or know that people do know its possible
The note 2 saw someone having a 256gb sdcard as his main internal storage and 16gb external with the exsdcard2internal mod mattijd created.

Well thank you very much for that insight. Any problems using the larger then advertised cards?

n/p and as long as your buying a class 10/ultra sdxc card theres really (imho) no noticeable decrease in speed, the class 10 are amazingly fast and I have never ran into problems losing data or corruption etc.

Need to find a corporate store that will order you one. Most of the employees will be clueless on how to do it and possibly even the manager. Might try T-Mobile business over the phone also.

After reading this and other 64GB Note 3 threads I've been working with T-Mobile corp. store manager, who has been stringing me along for over a month, promising to get 64GB Note 3 for me. Finally, I told him enough as enough and I made him go all the way up and get on the phone with T-Mobile country wide sales director, who shared the following information:
When Note 3 came out, T-Mobile has ordered some 64GB Note 3s from Samsung, but that order lasted only for 3 weeks, was never fulfilled and eventually got cancelled by T-Mobile, because there was not enough demand for this version. That sales director said he wanted 64GB Note 3 for himself as well, but he doesn't have it either, because T-Mobile never got and never sold any and all those, who claim to have T-Mobile branded Note 3 64GB are lying.
Personally, I've been holding out for 64GB Note 3 until now, which is a long time. Now I'm torn between exploring the possibility of getting international N9005 64GB with unlocked bootloader, and then trying to flash full T-Mobile firmware on it, including modem, in order to restore LTE bands 4 and 17, required for 4G connection in US and the option of waiting for CES 2014, which is only a month away now. CES 2014 is rumored to have new Samsung Galaxy phones revealed.

Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 CPU version, which is in LTE Note 3, has worldwide LTE capabilities, supporting all 41 LTE bands worldwide. What determines, which bands are enabled on a specific N9005 model is strictly the firmware. It's all over XDA and other forums, and people have successfully flashed modems from other carriers on previous devices, such as SGS4, in order to enable the required LTE bands...
You telling me we have 41 antennas just for LTE in our phones?

I'm merely the messenger. You don't need 41 antennas and it's not me, who is telling you this SoC is worldwide LTE capable - it's Qualcomm. Look at the "Modem" spec: http://www.qualcomm.com/snapdragon/processors/800
Worldwide LTE capability of Snapdragon 800 has also been praised at length on popular tech blogs, such as Engadget, BGR & Slashgear and there are several XDA threads, discussing this subject as well.

Still not buying its as easy as 123. There's more than firmware at hand. Need the hardware too. If it was that easy I am quite sure many of us would've bought the uk version or equivalent just to be rid of carrier bloatware.

Yeah. I tried getting T-Mobile manager to find out for me. He said no dice but I wasn't sure if he fluffing or really tried. Obviously the demand isn't gonna be there if tmobile doesnt order the damn 64gb versions. **** how long have we been *****ing about not enough storage and the carriers still dont come through. T-Mobile is under no incentive to force their name since they offer the best value of unlimited data and have no incentive to force us to bottleneck their network to use cloud services. I think an email to john legere is needed. Or a few.

No one says it's easy...Each carrier specific OS rom has to have specific drivers and configuration, designed to work with one very specific modem's firmware that has certain LTE, GSM/CDMA/Edge etc' frequencies enabled. If you use a rom from one carrier, and flash modem from another carrier, which unlocks LTE bands you need - you are bound to have issues...People, who flashed & used cross carrier modems on SGS4 have had major power drain issues. That is why I said in my original post if I go to that route - I'm gonna flash the whole T-Mobile firmware, including the OS and everything else, not just the modem
Cross carrier? Let me know when the cross countries works.

"cross carrier" in no way implies carrier from the same country...Cross carrier could be Vodafone, O2, Orange, Verizon, T-Mobile US, etc

To tell the truth, I returned a 16gb S4 to Tmobile, because ATT and Verizon were offering the 32gb version. I waited several months, and Tmobile NEVER got the 32gb S4.. What is with these people? They could at least stock a small quanity of the larger versions.. I am sure the demand is there. I would have opted for the 64gb Note 3, if it was offered..
