I don't think this is correct, although I could be wrong so don't hold me to this!!
I thought the only way to unlock SIM was using XTC clip.
Again, sorry if this is wrong!!

Before we had a "software" root which is done on the computer, the only way to root the inc2 was with an"XTC clip" this gives a FULL NAND un-lock and is irreversible, so once you have s-off you're stuck with that, un-like the software root that later came u can turn back to s-on.
but yet XTC clip is something you must buy, or pay someone to "use"

ive actually been looking for a free way to unlock the sim without calling verizon as well
will the original rom (with root added) work globally....id assume it would but you know what happens when you assume lol
edit: after a bit more searching it looks like there isnt a way to unlock w/o the xtc clip, verizon or paying

Yes. That's why all the global enabled ROMs (sense based) are all based off of the stock firmware so global works well. SkyRaider is the best example of this. It's stock firmware with sense 3.0 stuff added to it.

Anyone know how to adb unlock sim? I had a captivate and there was a way to change the binary file to leave network unlocked then you pushed it using a Chmod adb command. I would try it but I'm afraid I don't have insurance and also not too comfortable with htc devices so I don't wanna brick by accident

You either need an xtc clip or a sim unlock code from Verizon or an online unlocker.

I believe Verizons code is free...why won't ppl use it?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
As a Verizon indirect agent my account manager will not give unlock codes to me therefore software unlock is my best bet, I'm not buying an xtc clip either talk about a ripoff
Why can't you just call Verizon customer support and get the unlock code from them? Shouldn't matter if you're affiliated with vzw or not, you pay for a service, they provide it.

Please answer the question I know what I can and can't do it's stupid what can't be done when u work for a company but I have tried everything and that's why I am posting the question, Yes I have searched, Yes I have called support, my options are software unlock or code unlock and I don't want to pay for a code
Those are your only options. Either find someone that does sim unlocking with an xtc clip or buy a code. There's absolutely no other way known right now.

Side note, what are my chances of bricking the device trying to do this the same way? I have backups if I can get into CWM BUT a nice brick would probably make me very upset

Why would you need more than one unlock code?
Does the phone re-lock after a while?
I'm kinda surprised with all the stuff that goes on here that SIM unlocking can't be done without calling t-mobile or buying from ebay.

There are a small number of operators for which it doesn't work. It's a very small chance, and from what I hear, getting a refund from a reputable SIM unlock code provider is painless.
I have a Verizon HTC One that I purchased on the device payment plan. I have searched here and you tube to see if I can unlock the bootloader to install custom roms. I know it has the old bootloader version of 1.54. Any help will be great before my return Window closes.

No hope of boot loader unlock on that firmware currently. Only option is send to sonic for s-off. Or change carriers to att or someone else and get a one from them, I returned my Verizon one and did just that and couldn't be happier.

Verizon has blocked the bootloader from being unlocked via HTCDev. Currently, the ONLY way to unlock is to send it to Sonic. Visit this thread:

So you are against sending it out to get s-off'd by sonic? That's a permanent root for you...
If not, do some research before you purchase a new $600 device. If root is a MUST for you please take time to make sure a new phone will fit your needs in this matter before you waste their time with return of an otherwise GOOD product.
I apologize if this sounds snarky.... that's not my intent.

If you kept your old phone, reactivate that one, send your One to Sonic to get S-Off (for a very reasonable fee... the java cards are expensive!), then when you get it back, reactivate the one. Done and done!

more development will be on the htc one maxx than this phone (unfortunately HTC kinda did again - what they did with the HTC Inc4g I just hope this community actually stays and doesn't leave), not saying that it will get S-OFF faster, but it will have more of a community than us, which = more bounty money = more developers working on exploits. Personally I can't use a phone bigger than 5' large. Again, this is just an opinion from word around the water coolers.

Quick and dirty version of how.
Visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427960 for information.
Go to http://htc.s26tech.com/ to purchase the S-OFF option for the One, send it off and wait for it to come back.
The APK name Sunshine and work perfectly. I use in my HTC M8 from T-Mobile. (Important) Use in a Stock (original rom only)
Search in google i can't post url : Sunshine S-OFF, by theroot ninja
fyi to other readers, it's a paid ($25) app. you can try to find an apk yourself, but if firewater is still valid, then just run that. works on most variants.
What is "soff"?
link
Here is the link its a lil crazy to charge 25 bucks for this though i didnt do it i can live with s-on for now
http://theroot.ninja/
What is "s-on"?
Why do I want "S" to be off?
s-on and s-off are lock states, you want s-off to change your bootloader etc.

While i agree with you, they seem to be the only ones who found how to soff so they can charge what they want... Hopefully someone else figures out how to do it and charges less as it is too steep for me (i would only use it to remove the red text which is not worth 25 buck for me)
