Put this way without the screen issues.
Htc Amaze 4g super Lcd Qhd. Higher resolution washed out colors.
SG2 Super amoled + lower resolution and vibrant brilliant colors.
The amaze has more hardware problems which can't be fix.
SG2 has more software problems that can be fixed.
I personally don't have the screen issue but a developer named supercurio said he would help fix the screen on this device when he gets one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345099

Phone wise the Galaxy is superior in every way in fact, its built better.

Do you think the screen issue is serious?
I just got it today, I read the posts about the screen issue before I was buying it,
and now I am always focusing on the screen and concerning the issue,
I admit that I might not find out the issue if I didn't read the posts, but the fact is I did read those,
a bit sad...
I am wondering is this phone able to check and install update by wifi or carrier network, as same as the HTC phones?
Thanks.
Before I ordered it online, I looked at the screen resolution and was a bit worried considering the screen is 4.5". When I actually got the phone and start playing around, changing live wall papers, watching movies, etc... I'm in LOVE with the screen lol the colours are just beautiful. I have a background setup with a sun rise and rainbow, and I can't describe how amazing it looks lol
my oponion Super Amoled+ is the best in the market
I own an S2x, runs amazing. The screen is really high quality. If you compare it to let's say an iPhone, you will immediately notice the nicer colors on the Samsung. Great phone, great screen. Can't go wrong....

Hey, I need your help!
I'm thinking about exchanging my HD2 for a Desire, but I'd like to know how good the single LED flash is vs. the dual LED in the HD2.
Does someone own both phones? If so, could you do some comparison shots with the flash?
Also, can you say something about the battery life?
And screen with the fewer sub-pixels in the Desire vs. the lower contrast of the HD2's LCD screen?
Really hope someone has them both and can help me.
I will receive my Desire on tuesday hopefully, so then I will be able to compare it for you with my sisters hd2 of course if you dont mind waiting, pretty sure some users here have both phones already
I dunno if this helps but the flash is bright enough to take a photo in a completely dark room and it be visible.

Battery life is about 25% better on the Desire.
Flash comparison please make your own mind up, I have uploaded comparison shots taken with both phones below:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157623774124256/
Screen is gonna be one of those things were everyone has a different opinion, but my choice would be the size and clear readability of the HD2 over the better contrast on the Desire.
Thanks very much!
Crazy, I think the picture from the Desire looks better.
What camera drivers do you have on your HD2? Those from the TMO US 2.10 ROM?
It looks like the single LED on the Desire is just as bright as the two LEDs of the HD2, is that true? What if you take a picture in a big, dark room, is the range of the Desire's flash the same as the range of the HD2's flash?
Nice to hear that the battery life is better, despite the spec sheets telling something different. Actually, with the smaller AMOLED screen, the Desire's battery life *should* be better, but strangely, HTC claim otherwise.
I have a Touch HD with a 3.8" screen and an HD2 with the 4.3" screen, and interestingly, at minimum zoom level (and the same amount of content on both screens), the Touch HD's smaller screen is more readable.
I guess this isn't the case with the Desire, since it has less sub-pixels?
reese
well i have just bought a Desire unlocked and come from a HD2 . i would say the desire definately has the better camera /flash ,takes a very nice photo and has control over saturation and other effects which make for very interesting pictures. Something which the Hd2 lacked.
Battery life for me is a bit of an issue and may be down to all the updates which i am still playing about with. Though to be honest i had to charge both by the end of the day.
Just for comparison between the two though i would say the Desire thrashes the HD2 , even screen size doesnt matter as the Desire screen is still pretty large and a delight to watch with amoled. May have issues come summer when the screen will be rendered useless( twas a bit sunny otherday and i was in the shade to read it .) Android is just great to use over windows.
Hello,
ok, maybe it's just a noob question, but how do i know if my phone has an amoled or an S-LCD DISPLAY????

Steve Job is blown away !!! S-amoled is the no1 at this moment really fantastic.
Had a good long look at a Telus Desire today...it's the new S-LCD.
It's a lot better than the washed out AMOLED HTC was using for the Desire/N1/Incredible. It's actually better, in my quick testing, than the Milestone/Droid LCD (which is a damned good screen), blacks are deeper and colors stronger.
Still sucks compared to our S-AMOLED though.

Heh, don't be such a smartass.
The Droid/Milestone had the best LCD on the market when it came out, and still was the best overall Android LCD display until just last week. It was good enough that Motorola used it again in the Droid 2.
I wasn't aware that Moto is reusing the thing. Hmmm...if I were with Verizon, the hump back freak Droid X just got better looking.

I don't get the hate on the Droid display. It's a solid unit..and it's LCD, a stable, well understood and pretty much tweaked to death already technology that doesn't need monthly improvements anymore, unlike OLED technology.
And the Droid X? SAME IPS LCD PANEL, only bigger! And with a lower PPI.
I'd rather have an 854x480 LCD on the Galaxy S, to be honest. I hate the PenTile matrix and oversaturated colors. I'd be willing to trade the black levels for a sharper and more accurate screen.
Just so u guys know htc cant source the amoled from samsung fast enough so they have switched to sony for the super lcd it has caused a few issues here as they did it without telling us and we have been telling our customers they have amoled.

I received mine in the mail yesterday and wanted to give my mini review.
I currently have or had:
G1
G2
G2x
Sensation
Hercules
The reason I mention this is because this phone is not much nicer then the G2, G2x or the sensation but this phone is still solid.
I paid the outright price and coming from these phones I just cant see the difference for me to spend $560. This is just based on the feature and feel of the phone vs what I already own. If you were coming from a old phone by all means this is slightly better then the rest I mentioned but not $560 better.
Pros:
No pentile
No screen door effect (spaced pixels)
No Yellow Tint
No over colored greens and oranges
Fast web browser alive, I mean WOW! Flash sites run very well
NFC
Decent processor
Fastest download speed from Tmobile device yet
Very light
Nice feel in hand
Cons:
Defective screen (I had the pixelated, washed out /brushed steel stripes) the artifacts stay in the same place and is noticeable when I pull down the notification bar.
DPI is way to HIGH for such a resolution - Not bad but should be a option
Stutters 10% of the time
Car audio does not have the Voodoo punch from stock, not sure about later development or if a compatible chip is in there.
This phone did not blow me away but will offer it to my girlfriend over the sensation for the only reason being the GPS is terrible int he sensation and we use the navigation a lot and wanted to smash the sensation many times.
This phone is very close to being sent back but even if keeping this is being exchanged for a different screen.

This is my first Super AMOLED device so I'm not sure what to expect. I came from MyTouch4G before this and an SE x10i before that, and both fo them had LCD's iirc.
My friend has a Sprint GS2 and I got to compare them side by side. I noticed it's much less apparent on the Sprint one (Had to get up really close and carefully stare at it) so you almost cant tell, and when the brightness is up to about 30% it's just gone completely.
I tried to show him the lines I was talking about but he couldn't see them at all, and ended up calling me insane. So it's also the eye of the beholder.. so to speak. I don't have much evidence to go on other than what I'm seeing, and am fairly convinced it's hardware issue. I remember the MT4G had 2 different batch of screens where the viewing angles and vibrance was substantially different. This might be the same case, though I would expect more from "Super AMOLED Plus".

Based on the pictures someone posted, I find it unnerving that it's only one the right side of the screen.
It's almost as though it's hardware related in the sense that it has something to do with whatever is right beneath that part of the screen. Could it be heat related? The CPU being there? etc.
I don't remember seeing this on European GS2 when I played with it.
This is why even if the prime wasn't coming, I'd be hesitant to pick up the GS2 as the screen itself is a new line of manufacturing....and I'd rather let the first adopters deal with the imperfections while they work the kinks out in their manufacturing process.
I'm on my second SGS2 in two days. The first one was bad. Very bad. Defective screen: grey stripes, washed out colors. Extreme stuttering. Ok. Recieved my second one 3 hours ago. Great screen. Practically no stuttering.... until the first hard reboot. Bam! As bad as the first one except the screen. Laggy, choppy. Impossible to enjoy. Wtf????
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I've noticed stuttering with the screen animations on. Once I turned them off, no problems. I've got the grey stripes, as well. If I keep my brightness around 50%, more or less, I don't really notice them. Debating on whether an exchange is in order.

I just came back from the T-mobile store and I'm happy to say that the exchanged device is much better in terms of the vertical lines. I'm fairly convinced that it's the nature of these AMOLED displays, only some seem to be worse than others. My old device was at ~40% brightness and it's still pretty clearly visible. Now with this new one, I can go down to ~20% without even noticing it unless I reeeeaaaally stare into it.
Make sure you test it beforehand though. I checked 2 of their display models and they both had that problem. I lucked out with the new one they handed me at random.

99% of the galaxy nexus reviews say the screen is the best screen ever. After using the phone and reading the opinion of people over here and other forums it's obvious that it is far from being as good as was made out to be.
So what is it? Reviewers got carried away with the title "SAMOLED HD" or they were just given some different phones with magical screens??
As far as I am concerned the galaxy S2 has a better screen and from what some people are saying even the HTC one S might have a better screen due to it being free from the impurities that ruin the image on the nexus screen.
I had a rezound for the like 5 months and I have to say the screen was much better as far as I'm concerned. Nexus has great colors, but I can more easily see pixels.
But.... How good does it really need to be? I mean come on, it looks great.

It's all a matter of opinion. Buying the "best" Android phone has become far too subjective now since we have so many options when it comes to purchasing a phone.
Best advice? Don't read or watch reviews. Just go to the store and feel the phone out for yourself to make your decision.
As for me, I love SAMOLED HD. Is the One X's screen better? Maybe, but I don't care too much to let it bother me. I enjoy what I have.

Didn't you make another thread comparing the Nexus S screen with Galaxy Nexus? You also admitted you don't own a Galaxy Nexus (unless you bought one recently).
Just go see it in person and decide for yourself. I have no issues with my Galaxy Nexus and I am loving this phone. I have around 2-2.5 hours of screen usage daily and I've never felt this screen is flawed.
Making several threads on the same thing seems silly to me especially if you don't own the product and are out to just bash it.

Well from what you're saying, seems like you really don't like the screen for personal reasons. So with that I suggest to not buy it. No point in buying a device that you're not fond of.
Galaxy S II has better screen then Galaxy Nexus?! Dude, you don't need any screens at all because you are completely blind.
I owned two SGS2's made in different countries and with slightly different displays, bot none of them was even close go GNex.
What is the point of this thread?
If you used the phone and do not like the screen then just move on if that is the most important thing to you. No ones opinion is better then your own to yourself.
You don't even own the phone? Gtfo and get it, or sit quietly in your chair.

I know. That's why I said create something useful. Seen the latest time magazine? Is he going for the I need attention factor or I just want to stand on the chair and... I'll just leave it at that. So many directions to go.

Perhaps all the initial reviews were of the GSM version and you're looking at the Verizon version which can be argued to have worse screens overall.

Yeah, this can definitely be argued because I have seen an equal amount of screen complaints with defective ones on GSM and LTE models.
Perhaps reviewers only used the phone at high brightness values. I, on the other hand usually use screen anywhere below 50% level and can see the "defects" easy.
and yes, One S screen does look better. At one time I had 2 One S and 2 Gnex phones in hand and compared them. At lowest brightness level both phones have horrible grain, but One S has much less of it. Move the brightness up one click in One S and all or most grain is gone, in Nexus grain is visible even at 50-60%, at close to 100% screen looks very good. The good thing is that with custom ROM you can adjust Auto Brightness and sort of "fix" the problem a bit
But I kept Nexus because of great ROMs. 720p is also real nice over qHD in One S.
I think grain is not a defect in Nexus, its just a poor quality screen, everything else like pink, banding, burn-in, etc are all defects. My Nexus doesnt have those issues, but other 4 Nexus phones I've seen all had them.

edited my post above as to why One S screen looked better. (same PenTile, qHD, but with zero defects and MUCH less grain)
I just got my Galaxy Nexus about a week ago - by far the best phone I could ask for (within a reasonable price). Coming from a Motorola Droid X2 (stupid locked bootloader...) I was really looking forward to getting the full potential out of my new phone! The first thing I did with the phone right after I got it was unlock that bootloader - not a single bit of hesitation. After watching many videos, reading guides and doing all the possible research I could, I knew this was a great choice and that I wouldn't mess up.
Flashed TWRP, played with a few ROM's and kernels, and boy - I couldn't be happier. I'm like a kid in a candy store - I'm just doing what I please, getting what I want and more! Oh, I wanna put CWM on instead? Boom. Done. Bored and I wanna flash CM10 for the hell of it? Done! I'm finally done with that stupid bootstrap from my old Droid X2.
But this is all fine and dandy, but there's one thing that bothers me... one thing that just, gets on my nerves afters HOURS of tinkering. That god d*mn Super Amoled Screen. I, cannot for the love me, get this thing perfect. After countless hours, numerous kernels and apps... there's always that tiny bit of a discoloring; yellow-ish to be exact. I just can't get it to go away... The screen is great an all, but i'd rather have a "not as good" screen with accurate colors than one that tints on me. This is really only noticable with grays, whites and rarely blacks - but it's just a pest.
I just wanna slam my face in the desk sometimes because I just can't get it... but it looks like almost no one else can either.
For discussion sake, what is your input on the screen? Anything anyone else would like to add?

Play screen roulette, return it and get another one.
Some are fine. Mine is pristine. My wife's screen sucks.

I'm considering it... I'm sure I'd probably get use to it since the effect is small enough than an average person wouldn't even notice; such as my friends. When showing them, they said it looked great!
If I were to return it (which I bought it at a Local BestBuy store), would I need to (or should I) factory reset my device? By that I mean, re-lock the bootloader, stock recovery, stock ROM; just stock everything. I dunno how "uptight" they would be about things like that... Would it even be worth the effort?

Pretty uptight. Return it back to factory condition.

I figured as much. I probably would have done that anyways to be safe. Thanks for the feedback. ^_^
Do you think it's worth going through the trouble though? (or anyone else for that matter)

If you think you will get used to it and can accept it, then I'd say keep it. However if it irritates you enough to post about it, I'd return it.
you could try playing with the color values (white is white on my screen and no purple tint above 10% brightness)

As stated in my first post, I've had tried to do this for hours. But I may try another ROM/kernel and do some more tinkering... I dunno yet. I've played around with CM10, AOKP (current) and I plan to give Codename a shot too..
Flash stock and live with it.

I may try Stock again - but I don't have a GSM/HSPA+ phone. I got the Verizon CMDA/LTE.
I'm with you on this one. Amoled is one of the worst designs in screen tech and even worse in pentile. Don't worry about replacing it, the display will always look off. Its just the nature of the beast. Sad to say Verizon doesnt have a single beastly phone without Amoled. Kinda sucks.

SAMOLED HD done right is fine, even PenTile. It just so happens we were the guinea pigs that got it first, and it was perfected on other devices.

Hahaha, It's not so much that it's a bad screen, it's the fact that it's difficult to get a "good" one. Sure, maybe one here and there, but almost everyone has these issues. :\

I figured as much... why does that not surprise me. xD
Mine had a very slight yellow tint, but enough to annoy me. On AOKP using franco kernel and his tweaker app. Raised the blue muliplier to 237, done. Whites are white now. Ymmv as every screen is different, but I was able to make my slightly off screen dead on with one simple adjustment

Where you using the default franco color settings for the rest of the values?
There's a screen calibrating thread stickied in this section. You should check out what others have tried. With trinity I use all 0 for gamma, -5 contrast and 145R 145G 190B. It seems to be pretty good for my eyes...

My screen's color seems great to me. What bugs me about this phone is the dang screen ghosting that happens. Kind of like a cheap plasma TV. Oh well I love this phone other than that.

+1. And mine is fine. Trinity with the blue turned down a bit. No yellow....
