3rd party keyboard on Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire Android Development

Kindle Fire doesn't have a keyboard setting to enable 3rd-party keyboard.
But with root permission, I assume this wouldn't be impossible. Does anyone know some tricks to enable 3rd-party keyboard, e.g., using some codes?

Not a hundred percent sure, but I believe if you put the app in system/app you wouldn't have to. And in the case of Swype, make sure to copy the lib from data/data to system/lib

what happens if you do a "regular install" on something like GoKeyboard or Gingerbread Keyboard?

This Guide (on the forums here) contains a guide to installing and using SwiftKey X. The general method, I think, should work with any 3rd party keyboard, but you need to change the exact value to add.

App to change build prop

So I need to download some jap games
I need to change my build prop to a jap phone such as an xperia. I plan to use market enabler to change the market to docomo
Anyone know an app that can change the device type in my build prop back and forth so I don't have to mess with ADB ?

I haven't tried it on the E4GT, but Blade Buddy has a prop modifier. It's free on the market.
Root explorer will allow you to do it make a back up by rename it to buildprop.bak then copy it and change it but name it to buildprop again ...

its not on the market but it can be downloaded from amazon app store. its called market explorer. you can change your market to a bunch of different ones.
Don't know that "Jap" is the proper nomenclature lol

No offense meant...just trying to type with one hand on my phone while I pretend to work and Japanese is longer than jap

There's one called PropModder that works great on the NS4G....not sure about E4GT. It may be free if you can hunt it down on XDA otherwise its a buck or 2

i just did it manually recently to get 50gb of storage on box.net...had to make my phone look like an lg...anyway hit up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386159
for instructions to change it manually using root explorer just read through the first post on how to change it to an lg...and im sure u can follow the same instructions to turn it to a "jap" phone...in the very least you can follow the instructions to get free 50gbs of storage
if u need an app you can use system tuner or rom toolbox or root tools or like i said root explorer
Rom Toolbox is probably the best app for something like this.
Absolute System has a prop editor integrated on it.
Prop modder on rootzwiki
Rom Toolbox has a build.prop editor along with other goodies =D.

I have the pro version...but I hate its backup feature and everytime I install that app it starts automatically backing my apps up even when I tell it not too...
Titanium is much better they should just give it up

Always edit your build.prop manually with root explorer fist. That way a backup of the original is automatically saved. Cal me crazy but I don't trust an app to backup anything system related.
Well you are not crazy, just a little bit contradictory.

[Q] ICS AOSP keyboard

Anybody know where to find an AOSP ICS keyboard apk or similar to install on our phone? Currently running official ICS, with root and swiftkey isn't cutting it anymore, nor is swype or samsung keypad. Already googled it and searched XDA and couldn't find anything

Download CM9 and get the LatinIME.apk and place it on the system/app partition. Then, go to clockwork recovery and run Darkside.Cache
Try searching ice cream sandwich keyboard in the playstore. I have one it works great.
Sent from the Darkside, ICS style
Thanks, I'll try that. As for the ics keyboard app, tried it and it didn't work properly for me. When I ran the darkside beta based on gs2 ics it let me do voice typing and as I talked it would type during instead of waiting until I was done. Trying to get that back.

Did you change permissions using any root explorer app. Permissions should be set like this..
x x
x
x
would a permission change fix the complete instability that i got from trying to use it? Thought i was going to have to do a full wipe and restore on the phone, it kept locking up every 10 seconds trying to open keyboard
Ok, so tries changing the permissions and doing a darkside cache wipe, now settings work but the keyboard still crashes out a vary few seconds when keyboard tries to open. Any ideas?

I really wanna change my standard keyboard with a another one (in this case swift keyboard I like it because I like to type very fast and I can do this with this keyboard and that is very handy). Any help is welcome
This message was sent with my Samsung galaxy gio
Why you don't replace it in system/apps?
place at system/app,set permissions, set input method as swiftkey and rename the other sammy keyboard to .bak and reboot
Ever thing has going good but can't seem to find Samsung standard keyboard but there is one currently using speriance from snowplume

Disable apps in ICS

My sister is running Tazz ICS, and there are some HTC apps that she doesn't use so I am disabling them in settings->apps. However, there are a few where the disable button is not able to be pressed. Is there a permission I can change so that I can disable them. One I can think of off the top of my head is HTC Location or Location Launcher.
I know titanium backup can freeze them, but I would rather use the built in ICS app disable instead of buying an app to do it.

Thanks, I just found that. Too bad the .apk files aren't all named the same as the apps. I was hoping to find a way to just disable them in the settings->apps menu, but I looked at the permissions for the ones you can't disable and they are the same as the ones you can.
Can't you do that with titanium backup ? I think I saw that a while back

Yeah, you can freeze them. Might need pro though, don't remember. If you don't want to do that, just say what apps you want removed and we can tell you what the apk name is.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2
You need Titanium Pro to freeze apps and I didn't want to pay for it. I found the apks and just renamed them. It just seems like having HTC be able to block their crap from being disabled defeats the purpose of the ICS option to disable unwanted apps.

Changing keyboard key tap sound

I've managed to change alll of the UI sounds by replacing them with my own .ogg files in /system/media/audio/ui however the keytap sound you hear when you press a keyboard key is still the original tap. I went as far as removing all of the .ogg files in the directory and only left the few custom sounds I made. They are for the UI touch (everything but the keyboard), screen lock and unlock, and a couple others.
As I'm using the samsung keyboard, I can only assume that the sounds for the samsung keyboard ui are located elsewhere, however I cannot for the life of me, locate them. Can anyone help with this at all? Can't find anything on the forums others than people suggesting doing what I've already done or using another keyboard. I don't want to use another keyboard. I have a modded themed keyboard that only works with samsung keyboard......... please help!
they are built into the keyboards apk.
Unzip the apk and you'll find them in the resources folder.

I tried that however when I put the apk back on the phone and verified the new sounds are in the apk, the samsung keyboard crashes when I try to use it.
I can't remember exactly what to do right now, but I'm pretty sure you have to reinsert the signatures a certain way for a system apk to work.
Been a while and I'm not at my computer right now so can't look it up yet. Google and you'll find it though.
