messaging question (msging a group) - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i want to send a SMS to a group of people (broadcasting a party to a bunch of family and friends)
however i cant seem to be able to do it....
here are the steps i take.
open Messaging app
compose message (top right button)
then click on the "People" icon on the top right and start selecting people i want to send the message to and click ok....
at this point the "To" box is empty? how can i fix this?
also i quite often have the "notification" LED flashing even when i have no notifications. i use "Light Flow" and im not sure what i can do to fix that issue.... (i have all my light flow options so that it doesnt look like the regular notification flash but its the regular notification flash that i keep getting :S )

Text Messages (1)

Anyone else having this problem? I deleted all my text messages and the header still says Text Messages (1) as if there is 1 unread one... ????!?!
Not sure exactly...When I get a text and read it but don't want to delete it stays on the topbar. I have to go back to text messages page on the panel and scroll on it again. It will usually then remove it from the topbar. If you don't need the text message just delete it and it also is removed from the topbar on homescreen. I don't know if thats what you are having issues with but that's not the end of the world for myself.
I'm using WM6.1. It has the threaded text message strings. After i go into a message/conversation and read the text message it should remove the (1) from the top bar signifying no unread messages. I've read all my messages and even went as far as deleting them all but the (1) still persists!
Did you try to restart the phone like turn it off and back on... Also check your MMS maybe you have some message that was unread in there... Check it out and get back if this does not fix it...
Go to your registry and check the value there, look in : HKCU\System\State\Messages, and look in sms or wherever and check the count, if at 1 then set it to 0.
Also, remember the message is not "Read" if you just view without responding.
if you dont respond, you need to <- out of it....not hitting the home key or cancel or whatever.
that is the only thing that works for me.
I have a similar problem, when I view a text message it is not marked read immediately, and home screen shows the mail icon. To get over this problem, I do the following: after reading a message, I press Menu->Close instead of just pressing the BACK button.

nooooooooooooooooo i can't seem to do anything to get rid of it! i delete all the messages and even after that reset the registry key stated by showaco and after a restart it still shows [email protected] ARGghghhghghg
Could it be an unread message stored in another folder such as Drafts or Trash?
Unfortunately not
I checked each folder and went as far as emptying them all

Text messaging problem of a different kind...

Okay, I searched and searched but could not find a solution to this issue. A very minor one, but a quite annoying one, at least to me.
I know a lot of people have been having problems with phantom text message notifications, but I actually want to be able to mark messages as "unread". In the Windows text message application, I select a message (or conversation thread), then when I go to "menu" > "mark as unread", that option isn't highlighted and I'm unable to select it. I'm also unable to select the flagging options in the "follow-up" submenu, though those are less important to me than the "mark as unread" option.
PLEASE help! I'm a heavy text messenger (part of the reason I got this phone), and I really need that feature.
Is there a registry hack or cab or something for this? Where would I look?
I am running a stock T-Mobile ROM.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a developer suggestion regarding notifications!

I feel the toast notifications for wp7 are sub par, they just dont provide me with enough information when i get a new text and not even when i get a new email so i have to leave the app im using to go directly to the text or email application.
for example i will get a text notification and often times the details of the text or the sentence itself are too long to fit in the notification window. how about this:
when the notification hits, is it possible to let the ENTIRE messsage stream in the notification window box that appears at the top of the screen? just like it does with android?
Also can we make further use of the toast notification window to include new email messages too? to inform us that say 5 new emails have appeared?
as good as these ideas are, some will desire the opposite saying that the fact it shows some of the text message even when the screen is locked allows for people to see your private texts... so it goes both ways...
that and you're asking for this on the wrong forum, this is something you should suggest to MS directly, either through social.microsoft.com or by twitter

which rises the suggestion to allow a preference in the toasrts that would:
allow full message playback (on/off)
no message playback. (on/off)
no messages on lockscreen (on/off)
three options that would be very nice ...and simple

text message DELAY option on the NOTE 4?????

I was wondering if anyone knew a way i could use the text message delay option on the NOTE 4.. like on the Note 3 (JoshBeach ROM)
I'm not 100% sure, but don't think stock messaging app has that option. easiest fix would be to use a 3rd party sms app. I'd recommend handcent sms, you can choose your delay time. Hope this helps. Also, just a friendly fyi, but ?s should go in the Q&A section.

Ok you can "SCHEDULE" a message if that is what you mean.
Open the messaging app. Open the contact you want to message and type the message out. After you type the message hit the 3 dots in the top right corner of your screen. Then you can select schedule message for any time to be delivered. I hope this helps a lil.
text message delay
I meant when you send a text it will count down for 5,3,10 seconds before it actually goes thru and u can stop it if you misspell or send to the wrong person... Im just trying not to send the wrong message it was cool on my NOTE 3 Rom....
i use chompsms, which is free (ad-supported) from google play. it lets you do the delay you're looking for. here's a screenshot.

Stock Samsung Messages App

I have just started using the Samsung Stock Messages app for SMS, coming from Textra.
I noticed that when I hit compose and enter a contact name, it shows all the phone numbers for that person. It doesnt even show which are mobile and which are not.
On Textra it labeled the numbers, and it also had an option to only show Mobile numbers.
Is there any way to do this on the Messages app? Its really confusing as I cant always tell which is even the right number to select for a text message to a contact...seems weird.
Thanks.

It does show mobile and other like work etc for me, open the messages app > contacts tab at the bottom > select contact > if contact has more than one number saved a pop-up appears with names of different numbers shown
Thanks for the reply. I feel like I am missing something as this process is so cumbersome for me that it almost doesnt make sense...
1 - in Textra and others, I hit the compose text button and start typing a name. it then immediately will show any associated numbers with labels so you can see which is the mobile, which is the home, etc. in this stock app I just see the contact name with a bunch of numbers. and if I hit one, it doesnt bring up any sort of window with all the labels.
2- following your directions, if I first go to the contacts tab (already an extra step) I see along list of all of my contact names. There is a search button, but if I hit that and type a contact, I again see an unlabeled list of numbers.
3 - if I manually scroll down the entire list until I find my contact, then when I press it I see a pop up with labels.
Any which way this is a LOT of steps to compose a text message - seems like it doesnt make sense. there is no more streamlined way?

Not that I know of, this is why there are 3rd party apps with a lot more time and attention gone into adding features over stock, personally I just leave conversations in my messages app so I can open and text direct from there, only the first ever message you send them you have to perform those steps
Why not just stick with Textra?
Great question!
Sadly, something is screwed up with AT&T, my Galaxy S9 and text messaging.
Several weeks ago, I started having an issue where I am sporadically not getting random texts. They just never appear - and then people are wondering why I didnt reply. To troubleshoot this, I went to the AT&T portal and checked the log of text messages...the missing messages are never even hitting my AT&T number, so it seems this is not an app issue.
AT&T has so far been useless in diagnosing this. But googling around, I have noticed that a number of people have had this issue and it seems AT&T's "Advanced Messaging" feature is a possible culprit. There have been reports that deactivating this has solved the issue for some users.
Unfortunately the only way to deactivate this that I have uncovered is through the stock app. And if I deactivate this in the stock app and then switch to another app like Textra, it is getting turned on again automatically. I have not discovered any way to keep this deactivated while using a 3rd party SMS app.
Crazy but tragically seems to be the case...very frustrating.

There is an app called "Package Disabler Pro" which allows without root, the disabling of system packages, if you know what the advanced messaging package is called, you might be able to permanently disable it without having to have the stock SMS app as default, perhaps disabling the Samsung stock SMS app would also do it (Just read here that Disabling the messages app on the S10+ allows Textra to work)
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/blcs1b/textra_no_sent_messages_only_received_messages/
Contacting the Textra dev would be a good idea too, ask them to add the feature you need into textra
I am also seeing another method that may disable it, by disabling VoLTE
https://textra.uservoice.com/knowle...80-t-mobile-at-t-verizon-missing-messages-rcs
Looks like that is for T-Mobile but worth a shot, if AM uses VoLTE it should kill it
