[Q] Help me, WiFi problem! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got my Arc today. I was very happy with it till I use the Wifi function.
Well, I have tried several methods, installing different ROMS, from CM 2.0, stock ROMS but no luck. it keeps disconnecting from my Wifi. furthermore, it also causes other devices to disconnect! For instance, when it connects, it makes my Laptop drop the connection, the same for my Ipod Touch and my iPhone 3GS.
I'm seeking for a solution, if anyone has the same problem, please help me!
Thanks in advance.
p/s: I'm vietnamese, so that there might be some mistakes in my English, please do not mind it.

Did u try to flash stock rom with stock wifi driver? I heard that in some of the 3rd party roms wifi for are not working.

I have finally fixed this problem, by using Static IP and updating the firmware of the WIFI router. sounds odd.

I feel your pain mate,
I've had the same problem. I discovered that my phone was leasing the same IP from my router over and over around every 2 minutes due to DHCP. Then, after a while the connection would be ****ed up, grey wifi bars, sometimes still blue. Everything pointed to having a working connection. But doing anything involving an internet connection on the phone resulted in NOT being connected at all. It drove me crazy aswell and after a couple of hours of Google Fu I resolved the issue by simply assigning a static IP for my phone and using Google's Public DNS servers.
Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you aswell.

Long press on your network and tap on 'modify network' - tap 'advanced setting' and scroll down a bit, there are a few more options.
To assign a static IP you should have basic knowledge on how to configure your wifi router and such. Can't really help you there, either you know what you're doing or you don't. Things differ from router to router.

Ok! Thank you very much! I do it!
EDIT: Bulls**t!!!! don't works...
Well, that's unfortunate. I'm still baffled on why it's acting up at all. My phone was fine for almost a month before it started acting up, and I didn't change anything on my phone. Same ROM... and all of the sudden, WiFi started acting all weird.
Also I just discovered that changing 'Keep WiFi on during sleep' to never, does absolutely nothing. WiFi still stays on during sleep.
I don't know... it's the same case... I restored all the phone, lock de bootloades, etc And I updated by OTA, one by one, to 4.1, when the problem begin again... grrrr
Any idea pls??
After a lot of test.... the problem is only in jelly bean 4.1.1 y check a lot of roms 4.0.4 and works right, but in jb...

After OTA 4.1.2 Update, having wifi issues/problem

I was using MrRobinson's stock rooted rom. When OTA 4.1.2 came out, I unrooted, installed patch, ran CF-Autoroot then I'm back to rooted again. However I did notice, every now and then, my wifi stays connected but connection dies. Internet connection is simply dead. So I don't get any email notifications if ever I get new emails. To fix this I have to turn wifi off/on and internet is ok again. I thought maybe I did something wrong so I wipe cache/factory reset, odin back to full stock non-rooted, installed OTA then use Exynos Abuse/Exploit to root. I am still experiencing the same issue. Att Smart Wifi is disabled. Wifi is always on under sleep policy. I have scorched the net and I can't find any solutions Any help would be much appreciated.
Mine is on the oem update no root even, and my wifi sucks now. The signal and connection will be good but it can't up or download anything. Wifi speed and cellular data speeds are all sub 1mbps also. ATT wifi is disabled also.
The only thing that helps me is to just pair to another wifi source, and go back if needed. Annoying! I'd love to find some solution also, I don't mind rooting if need be for it also.

You can still do warranty to get a new one just call att and tell them your situation with it. This would be my best recommendation to you. Or just root and keep running roms. This is one phone that I havent had the urge to customize with a rom or anything yet

Thanks for the recommendation but I also felt the same before. I thought the phone was fast enough that I didn't need to try custom roms. After trying Scott's ATT CleanRom SE, that idea was simply change. If you haven't, you should try running custom roms. Although, I would still want to know if there is a solution to this problem when running stock rom.

Perhaps it's a minor bug somewhere and the custom ROMs happen to pull that wireless code piece from something other than official 4.1.2 where the bug (if it is one) is located.

Yeah but hopefully it will get fixed soon. As I was looking for solutions, some people think it's their wifi routers that are having issues.

True, but 4.1.1 didn't have this issue. They must have changed something.
I don't know if it is related to the issue in this thread, but I had a problem with the phone since I got it of the WIFI constantly connecting, then disconnecting, then connecting again. I solved it by changing the security model of the router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP128.

Yeah saw that thread somewhere but this is a whole different issue. Wifi stays connected but no connection to the internet. You get connection timeout.
Yeah mine just quits. A note 1, a note 10.1, 2 ipads, 2 iphone 4's, and xperia ion and three separate computers have had zero issues on any of the wifi networks here. In fact, if I leave it be, it will not work on the phone, and it now seems to block all the rest from access! If I turn the wifi off on this, perfect immediately afterward. Strange.

did you try just simply reset your router?
I had all the problems in this thread after 4.1.2 A factory reset fixed it.
I'm using the international ROM (custom but fairly stock) and started experiencing the same issue when I switched ROMs.
Toggling the wifi always fixes the problem, but it's not a permanent solution. The problem seems to happen when the device goes into sleep mode for me.

Arc ICS wifi obtaining ip/connecting loop

Has anyone got a solution for this problem of Google's Android 4.0?
Some specifc wifi routers/access points seems to be incompatible with ICS. Connecting turns out to be an infinite loop obtaining ip address/connecting. When android itself gets tired of trying it says: "Avoided poor internet connection".
It seems there is a solution for some devices, such as Galaxy S3. I already looked around half-internet and have not found a single working work-around.
I'm using stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587. When I was using GB wifi worked ok.
Shame on android.

I don't know the solution but I've heard of this one. A friend of mine switched to CM9 (this is ICS as you know) and he saw exactly what you described. The WiFi was working OK in GB but in CM9 it was entering an "IP obtained-Connecting to Network" loop. He searched in the CM forums and found out that you need to manually delete a file or something. Afterwards, it was OK. I'll ask him if he remembers what the solution was...
I don't recall whether I had a similar problem when I was using CM9 on my ARC. I used the CM9 briefly before switching to a JB ROM, maybe I haven't realized that I was experiencing a WiFi issue. Or maybe I was just lucky

That worked for me when this happened a few weeks ago... just delete the dhcp_list file in a root explorer.

Try in router settings to set some country where channel 13 is not available.
For example put Canada. It has from 1-11 channels.
Maybe this will solve your problem.
Hi quera!
I'm on LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716) -locked- having this issue too.
Looking for a solution -with no avail at the moment-.
Good luck

same problem had happened to me but rare now.
I would suggest changing the encryption to WEP and see.
I'm using Baseband 77 with quite many kernel from this forum.

Does it work fine in the same wireless network?
I'm planning flashing Viper Xperia for what you've said, but do you imagine what would be the relation? I mean, what would make Wifi work if Viper Xperia was erased.

Unable to tether with .757

Hello,
I recently upgraded to .757 firware (rooted) and today I tried to tether my 3G connection via WiFi as I used to do on JB. The thing is that it doesn't work and after trying, I get a "error" in the settings (see pic attached). Furthermore, I can't turn WiFi on, unless I reboot.
I've already seen some workarounds (like deleting /data/misc/wifi) but it doesn't work for me... it's annoying because otherwise, rom is great.
Anybody ever encountered this issue or knows a quick fix ?
PS: I know there are some troubles with T-Mobile, and I'm not on T-Mobile network, to make it clear
Thanks !

I have been unable to tether using bluetooth. Everything seems to go through but the notification icon does not stay in the status bar, and there is no actual connection.
Tethering via bluetooth with an Xperia Z on 4.3 works just fine.
So I can confirm that something is broken in the tethering function.

if u r using custom rom u should ask from its developers
but u had same problem on stock rom u should Repair Firmware by PC companion.
and if problem remains trying to flash stock rom from another regions.
after these steps IF problem remains u must take ur phone to official service center
