Unable to tether with .757 - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently upgraded to .757 firware (rooted) and today I tried to tether my 3G connection via WiFi as I used to do on JB. The thing is that it doesn't work and after trying, I get a "error" in the settings (see pic attached). Furthermore, I can't turn WiFi on, unless I reboot.
I've already seen some workarounds (like deleting /data/misc/wifi) but it doesn't work for me... it's annoying because otherwise, rom is great.
Anybody ever encountered this issue or knows a quick fix ?
PS: I know there are some troubles with T-Mobile, and I'm not on T-Mobile network, to make it clear
Thanks !

I got it too, flash rom again and everything will be ok

I have been unable to tether using bluetooth. Everything seems to go through but the notification icon does not stay in the status bar, and there is no actual connection.
Tethering via bluetooth with an Xperia Z on 4.3 works just fine.
So I can confirm that something is broken in the tethering function.

Didn't work... I can't figure what's going on, third party apps don't work either, there must be something broken really. I don't understand.
Can somebody please confirm that their tethering works on KK .757 ?

[Q] Cannot get internet via Wifi tether anymore

I hope I'm in the correct forum...
I have rooted and flashed VirusROM on my HTC EVO 4G. I used to be able to use Sprint's Hotspot app to tether Wifi to my carputer. I was using it Thursday on the way to my in-law's place for Thanksgiving. I left and then could not get it to work again. The computer connects and the signal is at full strength but all browsers say "Page cannot be displayed" and my weather updates down load anymore. I tried using other computers/devices and all connect but none show an internet connection. I can use Google Maps, send/receive pics and videos, and use the internet on my EVO but I cannot share it. Did Sprint cut me off? Is there a setting I mistakenly changed?? I was under the impression that I can tether for free when its rooted. I even download to different tether apps and got the same results. Anybody have any suggestions? Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance...
-Greg
Although I am not using wifi tether, I am using the built in wireless tether through Miui. It is working flawlessly on my Mac. I suggest you change your SSID and maybe your password. If no success delete your network settings and try again.

I've never heard of Miui. I'll try that next. I already tried changing the SSID, the passwords, and even the encryption type and nothing worked...I'm gonna go back and try it all again. Thanks for the input, dude!!
Didn't know Miui was a ROM...I like the way I have everything set on Virus so I was hoping to not have to change ROM's. Thanks again though! Please keep suggestions coming, guys!

Try this link, not sure which one will work for you but the pre-14 works for me. Just try each one untill you find one that works on your ROM, sorry I can't point you to ont that I know will work on that rom. I know the link says Nexus one but they will work on the Evo just fine. Most of these act just linke a router, not an ad-hoc.

Sprint's HotSpot and Wifi Tether don't give the option and Barnacle was already set on Channel 1 :/ Thanks though
Wireless tether is what I was talking about I use pre 14, just open the app and menu/settings, its the 4th option down.
I don't know how I missed that option. I went in and changed it to Channel 1 but no change...my roommate came home and sparked up his Incredible's hotspot and it worked perfectly of the bat...something has got to be wrong with my EVO
does your evo say that a device connected and does it show that anything downloaded under the wireless tether app mine used to get stuck at just over 1kb of data then i modded my framework_res.apk and somehow i can tether again
It does seem to stay on a very low KB like 1.1...although it does show the devices that are connected...
Mine did the exact same thing although im not entirely sure what I did that fixed this I edited the xml code for the notification bar and edited the notification bar which somehow caused my tethering to work

Can't get Foxfi/Mobile Hotspot to work stock, will root definitively make it work?

Hey guys, I just bought myself a HTC One V to upgrade from an Optimus V on VMs Beyond Talk plan. The Optimus severed me well for a while but the internal storage limitation and general sluggishness of the phone prompted me to update. One thing it handled very well though was running Foxfi so I could tether my iPad to it, which actually became my main reason for using the phone other then internet radio and talking. However, this is something that is not working out-of-the-box on my HTC One V, even using Apex Launcher to reveal the hidden "Mobile Hotspot" application on the phone will not work and does the same thing (allows hotspot to be created, lets devices connect, but does NOT allow internet access to the devices) So before I send this back and return to the safety of my Optimus V I'd just like to know for sure if one of the many root-needed tether apps out there will allow an iPad to connect to a mobile Wifi hotspot created by this phone (not USB or bluetooth DUN) because I see many posts out there that state rooting did not help the issue. Thanks in advance guys, keep up the good work.
Do restore factory it may work.
hit thanks if I helped u!!!

If not, one of the many gurus around here can help you to safely unlock the bootloader and root your phone... believe me, once you jump in the pool, you don't wanna get out. For any general assistance in that area, feel free to also message me as I am more than happy to help you out.
I rooted my gf's virgin mobile htc one v and absolutely no tethering apps work. Also there are no responses to the tethering threads on the forum. So much for the gurus

I've been trying to get wifi tethering working on stock roms and it hasn't been going well, however, I'm on PACman rom right now with wifi tethering working like a charm
I'm running the rooted stock rom and the standard yellow wifi tether app works fine for me. Sometimes it will randomly go down and have to be restarted but not more than once a day. Also I've never been able to get FoxFi to work on this phone yet.
Settings I use if this helps you guys who can't get it working:
Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Netd-Ndc (master)
WiFi-driver reload: on
Routingf fix: on
what is the "standard yellow wifi tether app" ?
The app he is referring to is: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Use the settings he mentioned in his post. Your device does need to be rooted but I can confirm that it will allow tethering with no problem on stock ROM.

Thank you!!!! I had rooted my One V today and tried a few tether apps but none of them worked. Remembered I made this thread a while back asking about it and figured I should check it out. This was the first app I tried and of course it didn't work, but I applied the settings you suggested and now works like a charm!! Will still probably flash to something else but just knowing it works on stock is reassuring. Much appreciated!

I'm in the same boat, I posted here long time ago and decided to check again today and it looks that there is a fix now. So how do you like the phone over the LG Optimus V? I bought the HTC ONE V a couple of months ago but didn't activate it because I need the tethering once in a while. How did you root it?
Wifi hotspot only works on JB roms it seems.

Arc ICS wifi obtaining ip/connecting loop

Has anyone got a solution for this problem of Google's Android 4.0?
Some specifc wifi routers/access points seems to be incompatible with ICS. Connecting turns out to be an infinite loop obtaining ip address/connecting. When android itself gets tired of trying it says: "Avoided poor internet connection".
It seems there is a solution for some devices, such as Galaxy S3. I already looked around half-internet and have not found a single working work-around.
I'm using stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587. When I was using GB wifi worked ok.
Shame on android.

Yes. That is problem.
I don't know the solution but I've heard of this one. A friend of mine switched to CM9 (this is ICS as you know) and he saw exactly what you described. The WiFi was working OK in GB but in CM9 it was entering an "IP obtained-Connecting to Network" loop. He searched in the CM forums and found out that you need to manually delete a file or something. Afterwards, it was OK. I'll ask him if he remembers what the solution was...
I don't recall whether I had a similar problem when I was using CM9 on my ARC. I used the CM9 briefly before switching to a JB ROM, maybe I haven't realized that I was experiencing a WiFi issue. Or maybe I was just lucky

Try in router settings to set some country where channel 13 is not available.
For example put Canada. It has from 1-11 channels.
Maybe this will solve your problem.

First of all, I never try bobcat rom. Therefore, I dont know what samsung bloatware has been removed by the developer.
But for your information. Everything related with *all share* app must be exist or installed on your rom. Otherwise, wifi direct only able to connect but no to send or receive file.
Good luck mate.

Great. I was experiencing the same problem (pending transfer). After defrosting allshareplay and allshare Service, everything is working. Unfortunatly many users recommends freezing these services without knowing what they are for. Don´t forget to get enabled the following services:
Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-fi direct share.
The problem is that after turning wifi direct off they remain active on backgroung. I greenified the following apps.
All share play
All share service
If you don´t use wifi direct you can freeze the four mentioned apps.

[Q] Cannot properly share Internet through tethering

Hi!
It's been a week since I've been using my ZenFone, and everything is quite nice (except maybe the fact that I had to manually enter my APN settings)... however, I have not been able to share my internet to my laptop via Wi-Fi, nor Bluetooth nor USB.
I know it's something to do with the phone, because this entire week I've had to carry around my old Nokia Lumia JUST for this purpose. Other than this, I've been enjoying full 4G LTE speeds and all. APN settings are correct.
Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, drivers aren't properly signed so I couldn't install them. I gotta enable that, so perhaps I'll try later... however, the problem is not that my laptop is not connecting to the Zenfone; it's the phone that is not letting any device connect to the Internet.
On Windows (Windows Phone, and iPhones and an LG that I've tested so far), it shows as a limited connection when using Wi-Fi or USB. I've attached a screenshot of these cases when trying to use my laptop.
Thanks again guys

I gave that a try, and didn't work. I think the phone is refusing to route anything to the Internet. I tried to make a simple DNS query and it refuses to respond; trying to use Google's DNS didn't work either. This is astonishingly weird.
EDIT: I've also just updated to 2.15 and problem persists, by the way.
Zenfone 2 could not tether with internet on Fido
I have the same problem with my Zenfone 2 4gb ram 64gb not getting internet access after laptop or other phone connected to its hot spot. My carrier Fido said there is no settings to get tethering to work, it should work automatically as long as data was working with the APN.
Cannot fine any help on resolving this issue, very frustrating since everything seems to work fine.
Problem Solved. Update your Zenfone to v2.18.40.12 for ZE551ML while v2.18.40.7 for ZE550ML.
This OTA update came out just recently in June and now tethering works on my phone plus a lot of upgraded features too.
