Hi, my home button go badly scratched because I had keys in the same pocket as my Arc.
I've found replacement buttons on EBAY, and now I'm wondering whether I should buy it and replace it, or that operation might be too hazardous to my mobile health.
I've found these instructions, and the dis-assembly seems quite tricky.

Has someone had experience with this sort of operations, and should I try and do it myself?

My screen got damaged last night, got no insurance to cover it so need to locate a screen in the UK to fix it myself. The touchscreen film still works as I can navigate blindly through the unit to make certain calls, using my memory of where buttons are supposed to be located but it's a bit hit and miss and would like to get functionality back without having to buy a new one.
Any help would be appreciated

As well as getting a price for a screen only ( around £120 on ebay ) as you have an mda pro ask www.htceurope.com for a quote including fitting. Getting them to do it will be more but has the benefit of maintaining the manfacturers warranty on the device. If you fit a new screen and something else goes wrong in the future your on your own.

ae button maps power to another button, but because the power switch is locked in the unit wants to deep sleep. sucks
been searching for a way to unbind the power button, but failed.
i'm mediocre at tech stuff at best, looking for a registry tweak or such.
in fact i'm just plain looking for help!
been lurking on the boards for the last couple of years and appreciated all the work you guys have done for my xda's(made them usable for a start!)
taking this opportunity to say thank you.
Why are you going to resolve a hardware problem with a software tweak? If your power-button is broken, replace it! In the wiki section you´ll find a Service Manual on how to disable your device. Shouldn´t be that hard to replace a button. I mean your not going to change the CPU or so.....

The Power Button consists od the plastic button which is held there by a springy membrane in turn held in 2 slots inside the case.
The button pushes the little switch on the Circuit Board - normally it's not touching it so that's being held in so the switch is always on and the phone won't behave properly.
Try a very thin blade to pop the button back up into place.
Otherwise it's a case off job which is not too difficult although you'll need a No 6 Torx screwdriver and sometype of plastic lever, very thin but strong to prise the case apart.
As stated follow the instructions but beware not all cases are the same so look carefully before you get mad at something......
thanks, that's exactly what I needed, especially the warning about the case difference
phone fixed and i'm happy.
note: the xda orbit doesn't have a seperate camera cover, the back is all one piece.
I didn't want to risk taking apart my satnav just before my xmas dash around the country, but then i remembered i could steal my wife's and i'm due an upgrade, so i went for it.
there will be a slightly foxed orbit going on ebay in jan, just after i receive my upgrade. now i have to decide whether i want the tytn ii or the polaris.......
choices, choices........
Thanks again, for the help.

My volume buttons are not responding all that great(I have to press them really hard) presumably because of the wet application screen protector I installed last night resulted in some water getting to them. It is super simple to replace I just need to know where to find one.
Anyone know?
I was right about the water, pried up the buttons on the module and there was some "gunk" causing the issues, scraped it off and all is well. Still would be nice to know where to get parts like this in the future if anyone has any ideas.
Try returning it? If you are lucky you can return it to where you got it because of volume control problems. Maybe you can get a replacement.
hey guys
my volume down button is not working anymore. it works sometimes, but i have to push reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hard
I just wanted to know if someone knows the solution
I've red this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304940 but I'm not sure if that's working with the desire
also, I just wanted to know if there is a way to maybe change the button, as the volume up button works really fine
another solution could be spraying insinde this??

or the WD40
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD-40
same problem here. would be great to know if there is a solution.
im not sure but there is probably a guide to cleaning buttons somewhere on xda r youtube etc etc. personaly i would NOT use wd40 on my phone as it probably would do more damage, i mean i use wd40 on my car engine. it looks like a hardware issue so i would try cleaning around the buttons etc, following a good guide
Sent from my HTC Desire
I had this problem then i took my phone to HTC service center for replacement. It happened in the last month of my warrenty period.
They replaced with new board related to volume keys.

There's a video on youtube how to disassemble the Desire. It's on German, but you see what you have to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWkTYvSk9Ys
I'd recommend to open the device and look if you can repair something from within.
I had this and it was pretty easy to fix.
Dissemble your phone until you can access the volume buttons, carefully peal back the black plastic that surrounds them and then clean the silver domes and contacts with isopropyl alcohol or similar on a q-tip. If the domes are cracked or split then you'll ideally need to replace them. Once everything is clean and dry, reapply the tape and reassemble.
This made mine more reliable and easy to press than when I first got the phone!

how do I disassemble it?
last time I disassembled a phone all the dust got under the screen and it was worse than the worst awful phone...
It's pretty simple and you should be able to find a few guides on google.
As for dust under your screen, iirc you shouldn't need to remove the lcd from the phone to do this so it's a non issue.
http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php seems good enough for this, stop when you can (carefully) flip out the buttons or if you want easier access, when the pcb/circuit board is out. In terms of phones to take apart the desire is very easy
Hi all,
So I thought to ask here, if this is a legit way to fix a strip of the touchscreen response,
running from the Bixby button, all the way across.
Most of the screen is perfectly usable, just a narrow strip that isn't.
Phone was dropped, cracked a tiny bit, but a replacement screen is expensive, and as it's rooted, Knox tripped.
