using right now: Stock rom with LoStkernal+ 2.6.35.7b
And still losing signal every 3 or 4 hours at best.
I have been all over the forums the past month looking for a fix. Rooted/unrooted, stock/not stock, Los kernel, EVERYTHING!
But...happened to catch something in the wimax tweaks post: someone said something about how they got no loss after getting rid of JUICE DEFENDER.
This is how it was going for me with LoS: LoS every couple of hours and having to reboot. Sometimes losing 3g without even knowing it. WiFi would get wonky and not want to work at my house (nothing else in my house just my phone). When I would try to stream music from internet or my Sirius app I would get about 2 min and would cut out.
Got rid of JUICE DEFENDER yesterday at 8am. NOT ONE LOSS OF SIGNAL ALL DAY!
Thats over 15 hours at work yesterday. PLUS I streamed from Sirius for 3 hours last night with not one interruption!

I get LOS with the same setup you have at least once a day....and I've never used Juice Defender on any of my Android phones, so there goes your theory.

I think juice defender helped me increase my LOS so I installed out. We could be wrong but it makes us sleep better at night
I get LOS once or more a day using Rogue's kernel, and never used juice defender also. Using that app could have possibly made LOS more frequent for you though since it is a radio issue.

Juice defender has been a pain in my @ss for the past 3 phones. Lots of people rave about it but the only increase in battery life I see with it is when I dont use my phone. It seems to cause problems with several programs I use daily. Im sorry I bought the program.
I currently run caulkins rom, lost kernel 1.0.8 and very rarely have an los. I have not tried going back to the stock kernel, that was going to be my next stop if my current setup had issues. My current setup is my best Android experience with the best battery life.

I also agree. I got rid of Juice Defender and most/if not all of my LOS has gone away.
LOSt kernel gave me LOS. lol. Stock kernel doesn't ever give me LOS

I am one of the unfortunate souls who is experiencing terrible battery life due to the AndroidOS bug. I feel like I spend half my waking hours trying to figure out what is causing it and doing different things to my phone improve my battery life.
I'm definitely getting sick of it and while I realize that Samsung/Sprint may eventually come out with a software update that fixes the problem, I'm not sure I'm willing to wait since it could take months (and the issue was supposedly fixed for GS2 phones in 2.3.4).
At this point, I'm considering going back to the Moto Photon--it's battery life is simply amazing. My only issue with the Moto is its unusable camera.
Anyone else getting as frustrated as I am and considering jumping ship to another phone?
What have you done to fix it?
Are you saying that you still have the bug even aftera factory reset ?
Why not just take it back and have them give you a new one since you obviously have a defective phone?
Also how many hours are you actually getting out of the battery?
I don't see any other phone worth switching to and I have had them all. Each with their own specific problem. But this one here is as good as it gets

I've tried just about everything that has been mentioned in the AndroidOS/battery life thread (reset, wifi, autosync) but I'm still getting only 12 hours of battery life on a good day, 8 hours on a bad day
I might try exchanging the phone, but I'm hesitant to do so due to the LOS bug (I have not experienced this with my phone as of yet).
Honestly, while I love the phone in many other ways, I'm about to throw the thing out the window since 8 hours of battery life is simply not acceptable to me

That doesn't mean anything to me. What's the display on time? How good/bad is the cellular signal?
Exchange it bro. Ive had two of these phones so far and none had this problem. I'm getting like 24-30 hours battery with like 4-5 hours screen on time. This phone had awesome battery. Download an apps called better battery stats. This will show wakelocks and processes that are draining the battery. Good luck man.

On a good day, the display is on for less than 30-45 min. On a bad day, the phone display time is somewhere between 90-120 minutes.
I pulled 16 hours ojt of my battery yesterday with over 12 on wifi and i was at 40 percent. I have to use wifi at work as i have no signal and when i do get signal its roaming. I would say that my conditions at work are far from ideal but this phone is great. My old phone would die before 1130(evo shift).

return it.
mine doesn't seem to get the android os bug unless i'm on a custom kernel. 1 week stock, no problems, 3 days on custom problems each day, back to stock + root and no problems for 48 hrs.
i still have to be 100% sure that my phone didn't like the kernel though so another test will be coming up after a few more days of observation.

I had the issue with the stock kernel and custom kernels. I'm just going to hold out until we can get a AOSP build and hope that using as little of Samsung's code fixes it.

I'm on stock and have nothing out of the ordinary installed. Out of curiosity, do you have a google account with full sync turned on?
Lol 8 12 hours isn't bad with a stock battery and 4.5 inch screen. If you are in a poor reception area it could be that. Otherwise you have alot of Apps running in the background.
My advice : root it and extended battery.

I average 15-20 hours easily on a charge, with a full sync google account
Everything Sync'd Listed below:
- Google+ Notifications
- Music
- Books
- Contacts
- Gmail
- Picasa Web Albums
- Calendar
If anything else can be Sync'd I have not run across it. I also have my Tapatalk set to notify me of PM's, and updates to Subscribed topics, I removed the accuweather widget because it only updates every 3 hours and installed Weatherbug Elite and set it to update every 30 minutes. On top of all that I browse the web regularly to visit sites that are websense'd at work, and I play dungeon hunter 2, and asphalt 6 on my lunch break. At home the phone sits on my desk until its time to pass out, only used for my Rift Mobile authenticator.
This is a real bug, with android
the system/0 process goes crazy and chews up the battery.
I get about 12 hours with everything disabled (other than gmail sync) and suspend/0 chews up battery
well documented here
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16721
it's a gingerbread issue, if you haven't experienced on the galaxy, you will soon
I'm also considering returning this great phone with crappy software until google releases a version of android that works.
by that time there may be a new "best android phone"
Why does the bug seem to affect the gs2 more than other phones? For example, I've never seen it mentioned on the photon forums

i use my phone a lot while im at school throughout the day , i last using wifi and 3g, and if needed i can do a quick charge while i study in the car but i lasted to 60% using 3g for a few hours
I am on phantom hackers blazer rom 4.0 with the fb15 modem and when I first flashed I was getting a good 40 hours under moderate to heavy use now it seems like I struggle to make it through a whole day on one charge. What could be causing this deterioration? Seems like my idle battery use especially has gotten allot worse. I used to lose less than 1 %per hour now I seem to be losing around 4-5% per hour.
Probably the modem. Go back to the old one If you were getting good battery life with it.

Well thats the reason i switched to fb15 from el29 is because i was getting horrible battery life on el29. Fb15 was good to me for a good while. Just for some reason the last couple days the battery life seems to be deteriorating. Should i try wiping battery stats?

I've been experiencing this with all the new ICS builds.
Have you been in areas with bad reception lately? Maybe it's this or you just need to try different modems. Try the latest FC one

YES! Honestly I did not even think of that! In my house I am always getting 2 bars or less and sometimes I am even in roaming. I dont know about trying the new ICS modems though I have heard allot of reports of them making peoples phones really hot.
I struggled with the same problem, I moved into the lower level of my house and my battery life seemed to almost be cut in half. I usually get 1-2 bars down there vs. 4 upstairs. Now I know what the problem was. Thanks!
So, I stayed on LG2, and from what I have been reading, I am glad I did. I tried CM10 on one of the earlier builds and just before I was about to give up, I went with the 8-10 build. So far, it is everything I need and I am without issues. I hear that the 8-12 build has issues though.
So....
Stick with LG2... or even consider ODINing back if you are presently on LG8... and go with CM10 8/10. You wont regret it.
I personally think it's a bit more of a "try" and see what works best for you. I'm on LG8, and I have no complaints, but I know that each version of the radio has it's own pro's and con's, and it's not so black and white as you put it.
try to JB kernel by ktoonsez too
if you set it up right you will get insane battery life.
ive been off the charger for about 36 hours now and wont have to plug it back in until tomorrow morning. i should make it to 48 hours.
thats normal use too. im doing nothing different.
normally id only get 12-14 hours tops.
not sure why the battery is so good but im not complaingin

What modem were you on before? I've been on LF9 since I got the phone and have been thinking of switching to LG8 due to a week signal where I live....I'm also on the 8/12 build
Personally, I installed CM2 +LG8 to get CMLG10.
(Seriously though, our phone radios have so much variation that each radio is different for most people)
I had problems in the beginning with this phone and the Airvana dropping 3g constantly. I've tried all radios several times, LG8 seems to barely ever drop 3g. I have stronger voice signal also.
Where can i get LG8 firmware and bits? I have looked everywhere it seems!!!!
So, I rooted my S3 with the stock ROM. For some reason it seems like the battery life has diminished. Anyone else experiencing this? Any recommendations? Advice? THANKS!
Did you get any suspicious root apps after rooting?
Even a lot of legitimate root apps can still harm your battery life.
Do you mean ones that I downloaded? I don't believe so, except root checker/ti back up. Trying to be stock, but need WiFi tether...... Thanks!
I'm getting this as well. Today my battery only lasted 4-5 hours with very light and I mean light use.
Rooted and custom rom, getting around 13 hours with mild to heavy use, 4 hours screen on time.
Sent from Pluto.
Root will have no negative impact on the battery. It has to be an app or something. All it is is access to the root level or system partition.

Just download, put on your sd, flash with CWM
Reboot to Recovery,
Install from SD,
Reboot,
Done.

4 or 5 hours is pretty good for heavy usage. OP go to the battery options in settings and check the cell standby. My area has horrible Sprint coverage and I found that in the 10ish hours of time the phone was on, I had about 1 1/2 hours of no signal. That's definitely detrimental to battery life.

Just wanted to update this thread, I installed Juice Defender Plus and my battery life has been EXTREMELY better.
For those that are getting bad battery life after flashing a ROM the reason for that is you need to let it settle in. After 2 or 3 charging cycles it should be back to normal if not better.
Greetings, its been a while since ive visited the forums, but i did a bit of searching and didnt find anything. I upgraded to CM10.1 a couple of weeks ago and have been having terrible battery life compared to CM10. At first i figured it might be just a new rom (i had to do a full wipe before everything started working normally) and the battery had to normalize. But no, its been 2 weeks or so and 3 updates and the same crappy battery life. I looked at the battery usage and this is from today, but it was the same last friday when i started looking at it.
I can believe 15 mins, or 20 mins of screen time. Not 45. Ive been at work... working. So i dont know, maybe its a bug, but im barely making a work day without having to plug the phone in. Can anyone help out?
Try a new kernel. 10.1 is a bit of a battery killer. All stock-like ROMs are. I use LeanKernel, but I don't believe he utilizes your s2. Try ktoonsez?
