Hey everyone!
I received my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and have been working on a more ICS ‘optimised’ version for you all (It should work better on Gingerbread/Honeycomb too)!
There’s nothing massively exciting that’s been added but it should be a nice improvement over 1.8.0.6.
A list of updates can be found below!
What’s New in 1.8.1.0?
- Attempt at some ICS optimisations
- Added a check for phones with ICS (takes you to sound settings to enable Volume+ in Meida Effects)
- App starts differently (should be more reliable)
- App should be more ‘persistant’ (see above)
- EQ values completely changed
- Volume levels completely changed
- Higher volumes now available (up to +20)
- Louder volumes should now be attainable
- EQ Band frequencies now shown
- Removed title bar
- Fixed orientation issue
- 'What's New' option on the main page removed (click version number to access change log)
- Broken EQ settings (from the first Beta) now fixed
Known Bugs
- Virtual Room Effects and Bass Boost don’t currently work on ICS (investigating)
For more info and Download links - http://androidaudiohacks.com/?page_id=16
My app is available for free on my website or for 99p on the Android Market.
Enjoy!
anyone get this to work on IN CALL volume?
my speaker volume is perfect on the current market version of V+, but when driving, even on speakerphone it's so low i can't hear anything and i'm hoping maybe one of you can tell me if this will boost that volume.
just asking again, has anyone been able to boost in call volume with this.

Unfortunately you still can't boost the in-call volume (earpiece or speakerphone) with the AudioEffects API. This seems to be a limitation Google put in place.
You can change the Build.prop to increase the number of in-call volume steps but it doesn't necessarily increase the sound, more like allows you to 'fine-tune' the volume. Although, on ICS, it only seems to work once. The linux command to remove the line doesn't seem to work (although it could just be the ROM i'm currently using).

blah that sucks. it's fine pretty much everywhere for me except in the car on the highway because my car is so damn loud (crappy piece of junk). Guess it's time to buy a bluetooth headset or speakerphone.

the volume level will not change no matter what number you set it on. i try 1-20, the volume will not change.

Hey guys,
Quick one on ringing volume on the Gnex...so dam low! Can hardly hear it. The earpiece is only just acceptable also.
Any ideas??

kind of hoping someone gives us a clue. Thats my only slight gripe low speaker volume, I thought one of the updates had a supposed fix but im here with 4.0.2 and nothing

If you ever root, use DSP Manager, a lot better then Volume+:

you can buy it, and try it out. you have a 15 minute refund window.

this doesn't help with "in-call, earpiece" volume. i recall that this type of change had to be done at the kernel level. i had the same issue with my Nexus One and a kernel dev boosted the output tables (or something like that) in the kernel and it made a big difference. i was hopeful that Samsung's service codes could be accessed to change in-call volumes. however, those codes don't work on the Galaxy Nexus.
Hmm. Flashed dsp manager and now it force closes every time i try and open it. Any way to get it working or at least remove it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
This has been covered in depth. Install equalizer or volume+, and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for all audio, ringers, notifications, and music. But call volume will stay the same.
So it does work with ICS?
I used volume+. Out the box volume is low. For each setting i put it on the one after the *warning*. Does its job.
Equalizer is my favorite over volume+... and yes the both work on ice cream. Works excellent.
So its just called equalizer??
Does it have some other options over the earpiece also?
Thanks guys. I've thrown a few thanks hits around too. = )
Cheers.
Equalizer by smart apps. Great app.
I use volume + and works great. I got the paid version. These are my settings and its loud I have to turn my phone down at work cuz when it rings its loud as hell lol.

So I'm trying g to decide without knowing what one works aswell as what one is better.....dilemma!! Haha.
Thanks again guys. = )
One other thing, is the Gnex speaker capable of going louder without damage??
also make sure you go to sound settings > music effects and choose volume +. a lot of people who don't notice a difference in volume have missed that essential step

Anyone gotten any form of volume boost to work with Jelly Bean yet?
The standard Nexus volume is bad enough but the new very nice sounding Text to Speech voice is also quieter than the old one.
I can barely hear Nav giving me directions with no radio on in the car anymore.
FYI, I already purchased Volume+ for ICS but it doesn't make any change to the volume in JB.

I have Volume+ and it definitely increased my volume!! I am on team liquid vicious v2 + franco 200 kernel. I have had no problems with it, so my advice is give that a try.
Volume+ is not working for JB. So quiet
edit: Correction it seems to be working for music, but not for notifications. Phyxis ring tone used to be LOUD for me!

Doesn't work for me. I'm on Liquid Vicious w/ Franco kernel. I have enabled it in settings and I can not tell a difference in any level.

I just tested with Volume+ free and its working. CDMA Gnex, Liquid Vicious v2 with stock JB kernel. Toggling on and off with a song playing, so I'm sure its not placebo.
If you would like I could make a video of it obviously changing my max volume level. I have the paid version of volume+ and have CDMA as well.

I've seen varying results. I couldn't get it to work for me. One person said to make sure you check it in the settings under sound settings. Still didn't work for me. I did the volume hack in Franco.kernel app which worked.

I will check but it sounds like the Team Liquid might be for CDMA? I'll go see if they have a GSM version as well. Also, I thought the franco.Kernel volume increase was only for headphones...guess I'll give that a shot as well.

Can you confirm that it is working SYSTEM WIDE? We all know it works for music apps, but It does not work for notifications/ringtones.... Neither does any other eq on the market.
Again, they all work for music but not for notifications/ringtones. I agree with the op, I am hearing impaired, and a long time android user. I can garuntee that these eq's are not working system wide, Maybe with app updates to conform to the api or some lib changes it will be working again, but until then we are stuck with low system wide volume.
Don't mean to be rude but the op is looking for help as am I and it does not help to come to these threads and everyone says "mine works fine" when in reality they do not understand what the op is asking.

+1 It drives me nuts when people oversimplify issues and mislead everyone. Just because a fix might work to increase volume for music, doesn't mean that it increases the volume for notifications, or ringtones, or anything else for that matter.
Ok- I tried both the Volume + and the Franco Kernel hack. It's really hard to compare them, but here's what I got:
The Volume+ app increases volume for music, but not for anything else.
The Franco Kernel hack increases volume for music, but it seems to be less than the Volume+ app. It might increase the ringtone and notification volume, but I can't really be sure- the change was minimal that it was hard to even determine if it even existed.
That being said, the change on both is minimal but exists, at least for music.
It is indeed working for music but not notifications!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I stumbled upon a temporary fix. I installed Volume+ and set the volume to +4. Then download Zeltus and search for "loud". Download the loudest ringtones and alarms and notifications you can find and use them.
EDIT: This fix does not raise the volume on phone calls.
So, many of you are aware of how abysmally low the speaker volume is on the phone after getting the JB update. Unfortunately all the information on it is scattered among several different posts and threads, and I just wanted to get some clear answers and use this as an informational post for others who are annoyed by this bug.
What, if anything, do we know about why it happens? Is there a definitive fix system-wide, or do I have to use volume boosting apps? I run franco kernel, are there going to be any compatibility issues with proposed fixes? I like using mostly stock JB, can I get a ROM that makes minimal changes to the original while still fixing the volume issue?
After randomly doing a search for volume fix a few minutes ago I saw this. Did search for same exact reason (gnex 4.1.1). Awesome beats (one of multiple equalizer apps) is said to work. I'm gonna try it in the morning (so as not to have a very annoyed girlfriend at 4am). There's probably a good amount more info on this. As for the last part..pure-ish 4.1.1 aosp Roms are very pleasing...like buttah lol.

If you have Franco.kernel, download his app from the play store (it costs a few bucks, not super expensive). In the settings tab there is an option to increase the max sound volume. I recommend setting it to 2; if you set it to 3 sometimes the sound will cut out on max volume.

I have no idea if this is correct information or not, so take it with a grain of salt, but I read earlier today in the Franco thread that that setting only affects the headphone volume, not speaker volume. I can tell you it does nothing for the volume on my GNex (speaker). I love this phone dearly, but I absolutely hate the low volume. I never have music on my phone, but I use the speaker phone multiple times a day while at work in my truck. I've yet to find a fix that actually increases the speaker volume on calls, and I've tried just about every ROM and tweak around. I'm beginning to think the people that swear some of these fixes work are just having a placebo effect.

I try Volume+ on my jelly bean nexus. Only the music volume work, not the system volume (like ringtones). I missed so many call because the ringtone vol is not loud enough even at max vol level. I know I can install ROM, but I prefer stock right now.
There are no mods available as of now for boosting ringtone or notification volume for galaxy nexus on jelly bean. All the mods like awesomebeats/volume+ and also the default musicfx only work on music volume.
I have tried all the mods on all JB Roms which claim to boost ringtone volume, but none really work. The effect if at all is very marginal.
The problem lies with the way google has implemented Jelly Bean. The solution has probably go to come from them until one of the geeks here manage a workaround.
Lets see if volume+ developer manages to release a working version.
I am currently using volume+ on AOKP milestone6(ICS 4.0.4) to great effect.
There is no point in upgrading to JB unless the ringtone volume level problem is addressed. What is the use in owning a phone which you cannot here ringing.
Really need a stock solution. The reason I have the Galaxy Nexus is to avoid flashing madness with the stock experience. Is it a tracked bug?

HELLO GUYS..
IM making this thread a little different then the others...This thread is designed to mod out the DEFAULT_GAIN.CONFG FILE...to everyone needs..I will attempt to help you all by making more specific mods to suit your needs,And we can help each other as well. Instead of this just having it increase all your volumes...I figured most just want one or two within it...like just "incall" speaker level.....or whatever else..
The Default_Gain.conf is located in SYSTEM/ETC
First off this is the "default" file in case you mess up or just need it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?qz8qo3oefx11r4e
When applying this file...SAVE YOUR OLD DEFAULT_GAIN.CONF FILE SOMEWHERE .... TAKE YOUR NEW FILE AND PUT IT IN SYSTEM/ETC SET PERMISSIONS AS THE OLD ONE...REBOOT AND MAkE A TEST CALL..USALLY VOICEMAIL IS EASIER...
Thanks to Edgabimbam and his thread for a reference.. Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970
PLEASE HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPS !
THIS IS MODIFIED FILE SECTION:
1.(Incall earpiece) set at 60 instead of (default is 53)
http://www.mediafire.com/?haabhrx61th3348
2.(Incall earpiece & Incall loudspeaker] 59 level
http://www.mediafire.com/?0ro43df5f9t8dli
ALSO INCASE YOUR NOT AWARE THERE ACTUALLY IS A INCALL BOOST FOR YOUR EARPIECE....WHEN CALLING OUT...LOOK AT THE SCREEN ONCE IT CONNECTS..THERE IS A LITTLE VOLUME BOOST BUTTON WHICH INCREASES IT..MANY ARENT EVEN AWARE OF THIS...before applying this mod you may want to consider this???.
I'm happy with everything on mine except headphone volume. I'm almost exclusively on bt, which is fine, but have my earphones for when the bt dies, and the volume is very low.

OK...I want to try another edit to something within the config file...there is multiple headphone outputs...so if by our using it as a Bluetooth instead of music...there is another option....let me try something else and well see if this will work...hard for me to test since I don't have either Bluetooth or headphones..... But this should work...when Im done with this exam today I'll fix it
No hurry.

Ok..if your incall earpiece was to loud...I can show you what to edit...so you text test and play with settings...?...look for the proper field..then change the output level. Stock is usally 53... changing it a few up..will help big time..anything over 60 will get the crackle sound....heres some screen shots so you can try out different tweaks yourself...you may enjoy learning..
Heres where you can edit some cids..for example in this screen**** was incall earpiece....underneath it is incall speaker...which is the loud speaker.
