I'll be getting them as soon as they're out. Problem is, what do I do between when I get my Galaxy Nexus, and I get my screen protector? "YOU MUST WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING THE PHONE"
Just baby it, no pocket storage, no chucking the phone at children. Or give in and buy a temporary el cheapo protector. I may do that, since sometimes SGP seems to take a while to release stuff..
i shudder at the thought of ppl putting screen protectors on a galaxy nexus
You really shouldn't, as a SGP crystal clear doesn't impede the screen at all and prevents actual damage...which would make the screen look worse. I do refuse to use anything matte or that you can tell is there.
But a screenprotector gives so many greasy fingerprints!
I use the sgp oleophobic and its better than a bare screen by far and still clear. That's on an HTC though. I have read of some Samsung phones coming with anti fingerprint features (nexus s did, right?) But haven't read that the gn would have anything

considering the fact the galaxy nexus comes with oleophobic screen and a fortified glass, i kinda see putting a screen protector redundant

fair enough, i just missed that and remember someone else speculating about it earlier.
Cool, I hadn't noticed the oleophobic bit. I made fun of protectors too for a long time, until I got my first magic scratch from nowhere with a phone with gorilla glass that never got dropped or mishandled. I haven't fully settled on a protector for this phone, will probably read and see if there's any ridiculous OMG MY PHONEZ R SCRATChED I DUN NO HOW stories pop up the first few days and judge from that if it's prudent.
i used a galaxy s.. and i had no issues with it. now galaxy nexus isn't gorilla glass, but they do use fortified..and i just hate using screen protectors..it ruins aesthetics. i will definitely buy a case from sgp thouhg. i bought a neo hybrid for my mom for her gs2 and it looks really good

The Flex looks like it's a wet install and I've never found one of those skins that didn't have the orange peel effect.
I bought the SGP Ultra Oleophobic. SGP has on it's description "Perfect fit for Device's Display." It's not a perfect fit! Like their screen protector for the Nexus S, there would be areas on the display that would not be covered.

Hy guys, i'm going to buy a Galaxy Nexus and I wanna buy a screen protector before getting the phone.
I have a ZAGG one on my iPod Touch 4g, but I don't like it, so I decided to ask here.
I had the opportunity to try a Brando one on a friend's iPhone 4, and it's very nice, but I can't find a Galaxy Nexus' one... So which i should choose? I also can't understand yet differences between the one using wet application and the others...
PS: i already found some questions on various screen protectors, but didn't find a "which shouldi i choose" one in this section...
PPS: Sorry if i made some mistakes, my English is only a scholastic one...
Brando have screen protectors available for for the Galaxy Nexus (not sure if they do international shipping):

I've heard the SGP Flex screen protector is very good, I'll most likely be ordering one myself. (http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...s-screen-protector-steinheil-flex-series.html)
i have the zagg. Its actually not as orange peely like the zagg on my old galaxy s. I wish power support made their screen protectors for something other than by apple because theirs are excellent.

Do you know if the Brando is a dry install? If so, it probably won't cover all of the screen like he Oleophobic from SGP. I just bought the Flex and it will be here Wednesday so I can let you know how that feel/orange peel is.
The Zagg on my iPod is crap looking at the Brando on my friend's iPhone. Yeah, it has less bubbles, but his doesn't make the user feel he is using a screen protector!
Not meant to hi-jack this thread but I came across this
http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...-nexus-screen-protector-steinheil-series.html
The description says that the screen protector has an oleophobic coating. I was wondering if the film is clear or matte? I don't like matte screen protectors.
I'm interested in that screen protector too... I'm undecided between this one and the Brando's one

It's clear, but I feel like it causes a little bit more friction than the bare screen. As mentioned in another review on here, it's significantly smaller than the entire screen area to avoid peeling at the curved edges, so that may be something that affects your decision to purchase.
How is the fitting of the Brando screen protector? Can someone upload a picture of it on the Galaxy Nexus?
Thanks.
I never realized screen protectors were such a big deal. lol
The one I am using now is the Anti-Glare screen protector that I got from Verizon. It was a bundle with 3 protectors, a car charger, and clip holster.
Didn't realize everyone used one... My GNex stays naked!
Stay away from the ones Verizon sells. They aren't completely terrible, but those things smudge so badly. It's pretty annoying, but I can't complain because they are protecting the screen for the most part.

I've tried just about every screen protector out there and I have come to realize the VZW protectors are the best for me. Yes, they do show smudges a bit more, but they don't yellow, they don't require the wet application, they don't have a weird feeling to them, and they are the cheapest. Also, I had one on my Incredible for 6 months without a mark on it.
Just my opinion after trying tons of brands.
Ghost armor..Hands Down

@OP: So which Screen Protector did you end up with? Cany ou give us some feedback about it?
Verizon clear (not anti-glare) works great. No orange peel. there is a 1-2mm gap from the bezel but the sensor cutouts align perfectly
Currently using VZW clear + Incipio NGP.
I went with ghost armor, cost me $15 covers top to bottom and edge to edge. Rep installed it perfectly. No orange peel yet but I do expect some. The good news is that it comes with a life time warranty. If it does begin to show signs of orange peel, they will replace it for a $5 install fee.

+1 for Verizon clear screen protector.
Good news.
The newest technology in screen protection is on its way to the Galaxy Nexus. I was curious and sent a message to Spigen to see if the iPhone people were the only ones to be getting the cool new tech and they answered back that it is development for the GNex.
If your unfamiliar, the company is developing ultra thin glass screen protectors with oleophobic coatings and ultra clear adhesives that gives you the same exact feel as a bare screen but at about a $27 price point is not a problem to replace if it gets scratched.
The quote is an email I got from them.

Wow awesome! This is what I used on my galaxy s2 back when I had it and I've been spoiled by it. I've bought and thrown away almost every possible screen cover for the galaxy nexus. The only thing that the spg glas had was it interfered with touch screen sensitivity. But it was nothing a overvolted kernel couldn't fix

I think it's a little bit different than the glas. The glas.t doesn't have a border around it. Hopefully this will work OK with existing cases like the Neo Hybrid.
I wonder if it will be just as impossible to apply this as it is with all the other dry screen protectors. It is damn near impossible to install a dry protector without getting dust under it.

You're doing it wrong. I've installed a ton for me and friends and 90% of the time they are perfect. Make sure you install em in a steamy bathroom to get rid of dust, don't touch the sticky side of the protector, and make sure the screen is perfectly clean before applying.

According to iPhone users, they are practically transparent and feels the same as naked, oleophobic coating glass.
I myself am extreme excited about it, but I did hear that you only get one shot to install it :/

I'm gonna guess that the protector itself will be curved. I doubt something as rigid as glass will bend to the contour of the screen...
I just hope this is compatible with the Neo Hybrid.

Can't see any problems with the curve - thin glass is flexible enough to contour to the slight curve in the Galaxy Nexus screen. I suspect there might be problems near the edges though if there's any overlap.

That's the point though. Even something as thin and flexible as PET film has edge lift issues. It they don't curve the glass there may be edge issues, or the adhesive may lose effectiveness over time as the glass separates from the screen.
For $27 (what they're charging for the iPhone version) for one protector they better make it damn near perfect. There's no chance I'm paying that much for something that's cut as short as their ultra oleophobic protector.
Im pretty picky when it comes to protectors, but for $30 I will have to pass.
on the hp its about 17.99 $

yeah i have a "anti smudge" screen protector, but it has the rainbow effect sometimes, and it reduces the nice glossy appearance of my phone...and I'm one of those people who can't stand putting anything on my phone haha. any suggestions for good quality screen protectors that aren't too expensive?

I used to use screen protectors on all my devices but I stopped believing in them because I usually take good care of my devices either eay and the screen protectors took away the beauty from the device.
It really is just a matter of personal opinion.

So I took off my ghost armor on the sgs2 and tried the ultra crystal, in my opinion it's the best screen protector I have ever used, and I've tried a lot! I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

Hi,
I am looking for a screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus that feels as near as possible to glass? I like the glassy feeling while using the device and I would hate to have something rubbery instead. I understand the value of a screen protector and I am looking for something that feels the least like rubber i.e. more like glass and less like rubber.

I wonder how high over the bezel this will go?
I like this idea, but the LCD is already low enough in the glass, this is just creating more of a gap.

Thanks Alex1123 Yes, I am looking for a "tempered glass" screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus. Do you have any clue who sells them.
I went to the SGP website and they clearly have a Tempered Glass screen protector for the IPhone 4 e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/ap...tor-glas-t-premium-tempered-glass-series.html
On the other hand they do not seem to have this for the Galaxy Nexus e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/google.html this is their list. They have other screen protectors - but not the tempered glass version which I want.
Do you know of any other brands that sell tempered glass screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus Phone?

Dear Big Cam
While we are waiting for EvilOlivE to receive his screen protector I wanted to make two points:
First, the link posted above http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/samsung/fantom mentions that the screen protector has a thickness of 0.4 mm. I am not experienced with smart phones, so do you think this would still cause a problem.
Second, the article at http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/1...ectors-for-the-galaxy-nexus-up-for-pre-order/ mentions that you should use coupon code NEXUSFTW to get $5 off. This is just in case someone else is ordering.

I wouldnt have done that if I were you. Our phone's screens are strong, but not as strong as gorilla glass. I dropped my nexus 4 days after I got it with no case and screen protector. They were still getting shipped from online. It dropped from average chair height and fell out of my lose pockets from my basketball shorts. No damage or anything on the phone except a 4 very little dings and a scratch near the front camera. I was lucky it wasnt on the camera or on the screen. It was on the black border. I'd say our screens are 3/4 or 2/3 as stong as the average phone with gorilla glass.
Well....just be careful wut ever u do Cuz.....a co worker from A friend of mine bought his nexus online had it for a week.....dropped it....a thin ....long crack resembling a backwards "c" formed on his screen......he paid 500-ish.....total for his phone....I paid him 200.....everything..phone..box ..cables....brand new everything...just the crack on the screen....be care full...might be scratch resistant....but not too sure Bout shocks....

Wow, $30 for screen protector! One would almost want a screen protector for this screen protector at this price . I also wonder (when it ships) how it would play with curved glass on Galaxy Nexus. The curve is not big but glass is not as flexible as regular film.
For what it matters, I went with real cheappo $4 for 5 film and I like it better, sensitivity wise then naked screen. It's smoother and finger can glide on it without getting stuck like on glass. Plus I can attest for anti-glare quality. I can finally run my Nexus in the car at 25% brightness even in the broad daylight and can still clearly see the screen.

My only reservation with the protector right now is how well the edges would work and how easy it is to apply. Normally I would buy a pair of protectors in case I screw the first one up, but at the price I would have to think twice about it.

Just noticed. In none of the link can I notice a visible accommodation for the Notification LED. Plus what if one wants to taked this off? Will it 'stick' to the original face plate?

On their website, they say there will be cut out for LED. I assume that is for the notification. And I watched a YouTube video where a guy demonstrates applying it and also taking it off with his nails. It seems very easy enough with no residues left on the screen.

Since I dont knowanything about them, can you recommend me some good ones that has good features like sun light reflect, no fingerprints, unoticable, etc. (I dunno, those kind of stuff). and if possible link on ebay

It's a good wet application screen protector, with the screen on you can't even see it.

I'm going to purchase this because you said it's a good one! Well no but seriously, I'm going to look around some more so if anyone knows any protectors that can back it up I'll take a look. But as it stands, I'll probably be buying this one
I bought an awesome pack of three on Amazon when I first got my GNex, let me see if I can find them in my purchase history.
They're anti-glare, and you can't see your fingerprints because they have a matte finish.
EDIT: Here they are...
I'm using the Herdanon protector. It's amazing. I forget it's there.

Zagg invisible shield. Tricky application, but if you do it right it looks amazing on the device

I use the cheap ones off ebay. I just bought a batch of 3 anti glare matte finish ones for a few bucks. I really dont feel the need for the expensive ones.

where did you buy the screen protector? I searched it on google but found no results
I use the Zagg shield.
I had a decent sized not really noticeable to anyone but me scratch and it covered it up. Also fingerprints are easier to wipe off.

i prefer the 3 for 1$ you get from ebay.
everytime it get scratched you just replace it for a new one
My bad. I confused the names of the screen protector and cover. My screen protector is the Steinheil Ultra Crystal. Its not cheap, but I can't tell the difference between it and glass.

I would recommend all screen protectors by SGP
They're way more expensive, but in my opinion it's worth (Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic , would be a good choice)
Also for more protection than just a piece of plastic, i use the fantom glass screen protector which is also pretty nice.

+1 for this. I have used several other screen protectors (ZAGG, Spigen, Clarivue and a couple of others), and this one, while not the easiest to get on, works great. Great feel and I like the way the screen looks when it is on. Because it is a matte protector, it is not invisible, but no real orange peel and it is not sticky at all - great finger feel on the screen! And cheap as well!
I hated any screen protector that I put on my Galaxy Nexus, after buying it I put on an Xtremeguard wet apply full body, after 4 months, I took it of.
Screen protectors suck and reduce the usability on the phones at times, some of them are pretty sticky or not as slippery and smooth as the glass.
PIE from AOSPA has never been so easily, I still use a case, but I bought my phone to actually use it, and I've been affecting my usability by babying it. It'll be so worth it unless you're really that paranoid about a scratch here and there.
No screen protector doesn't work for me. I work in a machine shop and metal chips find their way in my pockets daily. I prefer the non anti-glare 3 pack from Walmart or target. I forget the brand but they're cheap enough and don't interfere with usability.
