Hi,
I am looking for a screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus that feels as near as possible to glass? I like the glassy feeling while using the device and I would hate to have something rubbery instead. I understand the value of a screen protector and I am looking for something that feels the least like rubber i.e. more like glass and less like rubber.
Thank you,
O. O.

I ordered one, they still haven't shipped yet. Just answering the OP's question, I think glass is what would "feel as near as possible to glass"
I wonder how high over the bezel this will go?
I like this idea, but the LCD is already low enough in the glass, this is just creating more of a gap.
I am really interested in a review though.
just go on you tube and look up sgp glass youll know what the tempered glass screen protector is basically like
Thanks let me know when you get it

Thanks Alex1123 Yes, I am looking for a "tempered glass" screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus. Do you have any clue who sells them.
I went to the SGP website and they clearly have a Tempered Glass screen protector for the IPhone 4 e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/ap...tor-glas-t-premium-tempered-glass-series.html
On the other hand they do not seem to have this for the Galaxy Nexus e.g. http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/google.html this is their list. They have other screen protectors - but not the tempered glass version which I want.
Do you know of any other brands that sell tempered glass screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus Phone?
Thank you,
O. O.

Dear Big Cam
While we are waiting for EvilOlivE to receive his screen protector I wanted to make two points:
First, the link posted above http://www.xgearlive.com/products/android/samsung/fantom mentions that the screen protector has a thickness of 0.4 mm. I am not experienced with smart phones, so do you think this would still cause a problem.
Second, the article at http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/1...ectors-for-the-galaxy-nexus-up-for-pre-order/ mentions that you should use coupon code NEXUSFTW to get $5 off. This is just in case someone else is ordering.

Ive been using screen protector since i got my nexus, early this year. but after seeing my friend who has a HTC Sensation, with no screen protection for over a year, and his screen is really scratch less, made me rip off the protector and just enjoy my device ! now myself im advertising for everyone to remove their screen protectors , by showing all my friends around with a live example how good the screens are already by taking car key and sliding it over my screen multiple times and no scratches are left on the screen.

I wouldnt have done that if I were you. Our phone's screens are strong, but not as strong as gorilla glass. I dropped my nexus 4 days after I got it with no case and screen protector. They were still getting shipped from online. It dropped from average chair height and fell out of my lose pockets from my basketball shorts. No damage or anything on the phone except a 4 very little dings and a scratch near the front camera. I was lucky it wasnt on the camera or on the screen. It was on the black border. I'd say our screens are 3/4 or 2/3 as stong as the average phone with gorilla glass.
Well....just be careful wut ever u do Cuz.....a co worker from A friend of mine bought his nexus online had it for a week.....dropped it....a thin ....long crack resembling a backwards "c" formed on his screen......he paid 500-ish.....total for his phone....I paid him 200.....everything..phone..box ..cables....brand new everything...just the crack on the screen....be care full...might be scratch resistant....but not too sure Bout shocks....

Wow, $30 for screen protector! One would almost want a screen protector for this screen protector at this price . I also wonder (when it ships) how it would play with curved glass on Galaxy Nexus. The curve is not big but glass is not as flexible as regular film.
For what it matters, I went with real cheappo $4 for 5 film and I like it better, sensitivity wise then naked screen. It's smoother and finger can glide on it without getting stuck like on glass. Plus I can attest for anti-glare quality. I can finally run my Nexus in the car at 25% brightness even in the broad daylight and can still clearly see the screen.

Well, watching the video of the one for the iphone, it does bend a bit. So maybe that will help.
At least, I'd hope so.

The guy from the company who makes these posted on the forum (the thread was closed because of the advertising rule) showing the a glass protector for a smaller screen applied on the Nexus to prove that it works with the curved screen. It seems to work fine.
My only reservation with the protector right now is how well the edges would work and how easy it is to apply. Normally I would buy a pair of protectors in case I screw the first one up, but at the price I would have to think twice about it.

Just noticed. In none of the link can I notice a visible accommodation for the Notification LED. Plus what if one wants to taked this off? Will it 'stick' to the original face plate?

On their website, they say there will be cut out for LED. I assume that is for the notification. And I watched a YouTube video where a guy demonstrates applying it and also taking it off with his nails. It seems very easy enough with no residues left on the screen.

Yea or Nay?
I saw a Zagg at Best Buy for $29. Worth it? I know i do not want to scratch the screen.
I've been going back & forth whether or not I should get one as well. I tend to see more negative reviews than positive ones for the Zagg. I won't be as rough with it like I am with my cell phone. I'm wondering if I will need a protector at all.
I got an InvisibleShield and I think it's worth it. It's just comforting to know that I can do whatever I want to the screen, and there won't be any scratches on it.
I have one on my captivate, my laptop and have ordered one for my tab. I will say they are definitely not for everyone. So heres how I would describe it:
-100% will protect your screen from scratches (micro and major). Even gorilla glass will scratch.
- Feels like a orange peel or rubber/plastic on the screen. I love it, some ppl really hate it.
- After cleaning it, you might notice your finger catching a bit on swipes and drags. Its minor but some people again like that super slick glass feel for a touch screen and thats understandable.
- Might have some small bubbles after applying. They WILL go away over time, I promise.
I just picked up a tab yesterday and when I saw the price for the Zaggs, I said forgettaboutit!
I have had them on my phones for years, deff not putting one on the Tablet. It's not carried around in your pocket. It has scratch resistant glass so any normal day to day stuff shouldn't scratch it.
Those wet application orange peel ones all suck.
Static screen protectors are much easier to try and remove if you dont like them.
Not sure if the GT has gorilla glass but my Evo does and i have dropped it atleast 6x i the year i have owned it. All 4 corners got marks and i even managed to drop it face down in a compacted gravel parking lot. It slid after it landed face down! Still not one scratch when im sure normal glass would have spider webbed. So if its gorilla glass dont need a screen protector baby!
On my phone? Absolutely. On the Tab? I don't think it's necessary. I've had my ipad since it launched without a screen protector, and don't have a single scratch, because when I'm not using it, it's in a case

The IO edition uses a different display than the retail. So it is possible the glass is different as well.

I hate the fingerprint smudges as well. I saw a post a while back. Someone recommended to use a special solution on the screen that will help. Can't find the post unfortunately.

I'm not a big fan of the smudges either but you only notice them when the display is off or you're viewing the screen from a wide angle. When I'm using it right in front of me, I can't even see them and I know it has a lot of smudges on it.
Like others said, it's not my phone so it won't be directly exposed to keys or other things that may scratch it. I can't wait for my Samsung book case to arrive to I feel better about it sitting out when I'm not using it.

Boxwave Cleartouch Anti-Glare is really good at resisting fingerprints, if you don't mind a matte screen (I prefer a matte anti-glare on all my mobile devices)
Wasn't available yet, last time I checked, for the GTAB 10.1 but I'm sure it will be out shortly. Have one on my XOOM and my GTAB 7.
Are there any pics or videos of this on the web? I've never used anti glare screens I feel like its going to drop the screen quality.

Good news.
The newest technology in screen protection is on its way to the Galaxy Nexus. I was curious and sent a message to Spigen to see if the iPhone people were the only ones to be getting the cool new tech and they answered back that it is development for the GNex.
If your unfamiliar, the company is developing ultra thin glass screen protectors with oleophobic coatings and ultra clear adhesives that gives you the same exact feel as a bare screen but at about a $27 price point is not a problem to replace if it gets scratched.
The quote is an email I got from them.

Wow awesome! This is what I used on my galaxy s2 back when I had it and I've been spoiled by it. I've bought and thrown away almost every possible screen cover for the galaxy nexus. The only thing that the spg glas had was it interfered with touch screen sensitivity. But it was nothing a overvolted kernel couldn't fix

I think it's a little bit different than the glas. The glas.t doesn't have a border around it. Hopefully this will work OK with existing cases like the Neo Hybrid.
I wonder if it will be just as impossible to apply this as it is with all the other dry screen protectors. It is damn near impossible to install a dry protector without getting dust under it.

You're doing it wrong. I've installed a ton for me and friends and 90% of the time they are perfect. Make sure you install em in a steamy bathroom to get rid of dust, don't touch the sticky side of the protector, and make sure the screen is perfectly clean before applying.

According to iPhone users, they are practically transparent and feels the same as naked, oleophobic coating glass.
I myself am extreme excited about it, but I did hear that you only get one shot to install it :/

Can't see any problems with the curve - thin glass is flexible enough to contour to the slight curve in the Galaxy Nexus screen. I suspect there might be problems near the edges though if there's any overlap.

That's the point though. Even something as thin and flexible as PET film has edge lift issues. It they don't curve the glass there may be edge issues, or the adhesive may lose effectiveness over time as the glass separates from the screen.
For $27 (what they're charging for the iPhone version) for one protector they better make it damn near perfect. There's no chance I'm paying that much for something that's cut as short as their ultra oleophobic protector.
Im pretty picky when it comes to protectors, but for $30 I will have to pass.
on the hp its about 17.99 $

I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

Technically, but from what I've seen it has an oleophobic coating like the actual phone screen for fingerprints and such. I'm guessing it would look better than a plastic screen protector as well.
OP: I'll definitely back it when it's live.
I use the Spigen SGP GLAS.t on my Galaxy Note and it works well, but I don't see how glass is going to adhere to the curved surface of the Nexus unless it too is curved. How are you guys addressing that?

It's cheaper and easier than replacing your phones glass if you scratch or break it. Yes, there will be a coating to prevent fingerprints and such and will make cleaning oils off the glass extremely easy.

Ive seen a few reviews on these and one of the things that I think would drive me crazy is the edges would be higher then the case of the phone. if there beveled below the case, it looks better, feels better and lowers the chances of catching the corner causing chips
just a thought. maybe offer that option as a special order. I know i wouldnt mind paying more for that
Really excited to see this! Some videos of prototypes would be awesome.
I do YouTube Reviews mainly for accessories for certain products (Specially for apple) But now that I've switched to Galaxy Nexus as my primary phone.
I'm going to try and review a few cases/accessories here and there too.
Interesting. What model of nexus is it for? Or are the screen layouts similar enough to use the same one on gsm/Verizon/sprint?

The screen is the same?
The only thing that changes is the thickness of the phone and CDMA/GSM technology.

Definitely interested! Whilst I have no problems with clarity using a cheap ebay screen protector, I do miss the oleophobic coating on an unprotected nexus.
If you guys could replicate that, it would be awesome. Also, it's really annoying when some screen protectors get peeled up on the edges due to the curvature of the screen. I hope it doesn't happen to this project.

OP when is this project going to be live? Would love to see it in action soon!

This! After seeing the fact that it would feature the special coating found in the original screen, I want this!

Would visibility be affected?

Visibility will not be affected. It's .4mm of ultra-clear glass, it will be like nothing's even there!

This may be a possibility. When the samples come in I'd need to take a look.
Definitely interested and will pick this up when it is released
what happens if it cracks? It must do something to the screen.
smashed glass on a fragile screen.. hmm...
So if I have a silicon screen, I'd get a silicon case and slap it on top of it to protect the silicon ?

The idea is to give you a naked glass screen experience while providing an extra layer of protection that will take the scratches for your screen, since the replaceable glass protector is considerably cheaper to swap out than the screen itself.
At least that's the concept behind a comparable product made for other phones (SGP GLAS.t).
I am thinking of getting a screen protector for my moto g. I know it has gorilla glass 3, but i hate scratches on the screen so much I am still considering giving it a bit more protection. Had a look on amazon, not a lot of choices. In fact this seems to be the only good one. It has no reviews, so thought i'd share it here and get some opinions.
PS: Am i being too weird? Is the screen already safe enough? let me know

It will be my first smart phone, so I got the flip case/cover for the all around protection, but yeah, if you just want it for the screen, I guess it's an OK choice. Though I've read some people don't like the feel of those protectors.
My Dad has a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman and it just has a "Scratch-resistant glass" and it has no protection at all it has been 2 years but there is not even a single scratch on it and I know how rough he uses the phone so there is no need for extra protection
Watch the scratch test video! They used even a knife but the screen was like new

I am just a bit of a freak when it comes to scratch on glass
I went to the beach with my Samsung S4 and it got scratched, but luckily I did have a screen protector on. So yes gorrila glass protects against knifes but it won't protect it from sand
@theArchitektas
Where did you get flip case from? Pretty sure they are not selling them yet
I have the atFolix ones on order from Amazon; were dispatched last week but still waiting. I'm the same, I always put screen protectors on my phones; the only exception is my Lumia 920 as it has a curved screen and I couldn't find a decent one to apply (even the official one was no good)!

I guess I didn't put it clear. I pre-ordered it from Amazon UK, haven't received yet.
If anyone can find a glass screen protector for the Moto G please let us know. So far I haven't found a glass one anywhere. I can't stand the plastic ones, but the glass ones (like the ones made by SPIGEN) fell just like the original screen.
didn't find one glass screen protector for MOTO G...if someone has found it then do share the link...desperately want one to gift to my friend on Christmas......
Thanks in advance.....
Did anyone find one in Mexico City?

I can strongly confirm. When I had mine I scoured the interwebs looking for a protector and couldn't find a good one. But I had min for about 1.5 yrs and had NO SIGNIFICANT SCRATCH. There would probably be small lines near the SE logo... but you would have to peep closely to notice.
I think I might order mine without the SP and decide to get one later.
Try xtremeguard website use coupon code cyber85 and mystery for 90% off paid $2.79 for 3 screen protectors xD

I'm one of those people who can't bear to leave the house without a screen protector. I've made my own by cutting an iPad screen protector to size. Looks ok to my eyes, though I'll treat myself to a decent one when they become available.

I could, though the Moto X itself isn't sold in the UK. I wanted an immediate solution so I wouldn't have to leave it unprotected but I'm happy enough with the outcome to wait until some decent screen protectors arrive on the UK market.
I brought a case which is actually quite decent and it came with an OK screen protector. I applied it like a 2 year old so ended up taking it off and throwing it. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161166397679
I saw a Samsung reps galaxy note 3 the other day that he had in his pocket with keys and everything and the screen was scratched really badly, not just a little and that apparently has gorilla glass 3

People who say only things of a certain hardness will scratch Gorilla Glass are talking rubbish. Either that or the phones I've seen in CeX - no more than two month old devices in some cases, with screens that look like they've been sandpapered - have been kept in the same pocket as someone's beach samples.
BEWARE the moto g does scratch quite easily, I know this because mine slid off the chair and the screen cracked and had scratches all over it, I now have got a replacement moto g and put a screen protector on from day one !

If you are spending $200 on something that could be damaged a good screen protector is cheap insurance.
We replaced my wife's Nexus S (bought the first month they came out) with a Moto G. She never had a screen protector. She has one bad scratch in the Nexus screen http://www.patentlystupid.com/sw/nexus.png sorry the pic is blurry but I took it in the dark with only a blue LED flashlight to highlight the scratch. Now keep in mind the Nexus S did not have Gorilla Glass. My guess is my wife's diamond ring hit the screen while she was rooting around in her purse one day. That is the only bad scratch on this 3 year old device.
A friend of mine likes to carry high end ($300+) pocket knives made by Bench Made, they constantly scratch is screens and he has resorted to using Spigen Glass screen protectors and these too get badly scratched by the metal edges of these hardened knives. He has replaced several already.
So no you are not being too weird or paranoid. I use Spigen Glas-Tr myself. I have no scratches on it yet, but I would rather replace the $30 screen protector than the screen on my $650 SGS4. Just make good sense.
I have put a cheap plastic protector on my wife's Moto G screen. I will replace it with a tempered glass one as soon as I find one I like.
screen protector ensures higher resale value, and since I sell my old phones on craigslist/ebay, I put protector on every single time. Sometimes $.99 stores sell iphone screen protector n I use it as temporary one until I wait to receive one I ordered online.
As for Moto G, I received the phone today and learned that the cover that comes with the phone CAN be used as a screen protector. Those M logo and motorola name on it? You can scratch them off with your fingernail.
