The method of unrooting is all dependent on the method you used to root with in the first place. Unrevoked (pre 2.3) vs. Alpharev (post 2.3). what is your hboot and radio and recovery?

I used unrevoked and I believe im 2.10? ra...the rest I dont know cause I dont have the phone with me sorry

I'm rooted and I have that exact version. I used unrevoked 3 to root my EVO.

I have the same evo got it like a week ago I used the hboot s-off guide under android development but only problem I had with that program was that I couldnt access recovery so then I used unrevoked to flash clockworkmod revovery do this at your own rish though I messed my first evo up by just using unrevoked camera wouldnt work im 14 I think you will be able to figure out how to use the hboot guide but when you flash a rom make sure its a 3.30.651.3 other wise you camera wont work im using OmegeEvo v1.1 by racism

Where do u get unrevoked 3 at? Do i get that from the market and will it brick my phone? Can i use any rin with it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
do not use unrevoked it will permanently curropt your radio. unrevokied 3 is now out of date, thanks to htc's latest security update. use an alternative method if you happen to have a mac, i have a very nice 2 or 3 command root kit for you... testers wanted
So u cant use unrevoked 3? I do not have a mac i have a pc. I really want root mine. Im coming from the hero

I did not have any problems rooting my EVO using Unrevoked3. I followed the simple instructions and the process was painless. Before getting my EVO, I rooted my Droid Incredible using Unrevoked3. As for it being outdated as stated by someone else, I'm unaware of it. Check out the second link above and read for yourself. Happy Thanksgiving.

unrevoked does not work on any 3.30 evo software because of the new hboot security. it will not gain root, just corrupt the radio.

i am trying to work out the bugs in a 3-command method... adb is not that hard to setup and use.
If u can do that 3 way command that would be easier.

I know its not that hard to use but typing all the commands is what ****s me over

Does anyone know of a simple easy easy to root my evo that will also allow me to unroot with just one click? Im only interested in rooting for wifi tether. I dont know anything about roms or kernals yet. Ive been looking into z4root and simple root and easy root. Which is good for me?

I had rooted with unrevoked 3 amd lost my 4g. Had to unroot my phone to take to sprint for other issues. I used RUU to unroot along with the s-on file. Will I be able to reroot using unrevoked 3 again??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've used Unrevoked on 5 different EVOs, one of which I used it multiple times. Out of those 5 EVOs, 5 were rooted successfully and all 5 still have 4G.
Thanks ill give it a try again.

I've rooted two with unrevoked. All work just fine. Its easiest way possible
Unrevoked does NOT touch your wimax keys.
Thanks everyone, I had read that using RUU to unroot might prevent you being able to root again thats why I asked.
If I have any files on my sd card from unrooting like unrevoked s-on do I need to remove them?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I used this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304

Unrevoked will install clockwork, then you can install amon RA. Lets not jump the gun you still need root lol.
the way your rooting right now is the way i rooted my phone! i think i ran into that exact same problem back then too....i think i pulled my battery and started over....i cant remember...its been like 7-8 months.
also...what you can do...is run the RUU for 2.2 to wipe your phone (also do a factory reset beforehand too and back up your sd card on your comp) and then start over.
or try a different way...try unrevoked or xHausx's method: [ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Auto Root ~~~ v2.5 (4/25/11) - xda-developers
after you got your evo rooted....flash Amon_RA recovery ([Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers)
hopefully this helps ya out!
I'm sure it's a basic/silly question but if I just run Unrevoked3 is it safe to assume I end up with a S-OFF rooted stock phone?
No. You ****ed yourself. Do you know what root or s-off is, or what you've done?
What does your HBOOT say?

Wow that is basically a rude asshole of a response. I have been rooting phones for a couple years so yeah I know wtf I am doing... just never used unrevoked before . if all you were going to do was make rude unproductive responses you shouldn't have wanted your time.

Yes, if you use Unrevoked your phone will be both rooted AND S-OFF when the procedure is finished. Just don't touch your phone while it's running. It will reboot at least a couple of times during the process. Just be patient.

You're correct. And I apologize. I misread your question, and was being a sarcastic jerk. Have you read Unrevoked.com? Not only will you get s-off, it is reversible with a flashable s-on zip. Just don't be 2.3.4 with s-on, or things are tough. AKA accepted OTA.

I had 2.3.4 s-on and he is right took 2 hours and a combination of Adb, downgrade, pushing files, gingerbreak, more Adb, and finally about 20 runs of unrevoked, this phone is unbrickable. But man it took awhile to figure out since after doing Adb you could only do it once, and it didnt work first time so had to just keep playing with it and make smart choices.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button

I think if you downgrade hboot and firmware far enough you could use unrevoked. I think captain Throwback has downgrade PC36imgs available for that. He's got links in pretty much all the root tutorials here in the general forum.

You can always get a sd card reader and put any necessary files on it. However any method of unloicking or rooting does require PC access. Google put a stop to rooting apps quite a while back.
Koush, author of CWM, was working on a CM app store that would be able to host all of these kinds of apps... so we just need to be patient and those days will return.
