I'm looking into the rooting method for the E4GT and I found that the wifi doesn't work or there's no haptic feedback when the phone is rooted. Can someone confirm that both wifi and haptic feedback work when rooted with clockwork? And can someone give me the link to a proper root method? Thanks

Pretty much everything is experimental with this phone at this point. I've personally held off rooting because I'm waiting for things to start working 100%.
If you're worried about LoS or other bugs, I'd recommend not rooting and just following the forums for another few weeks or so until all the bugs are ironed out

Yeah that's what I was thinking. And I really don't need free wifi hotspot or superuser just yet. And I'm fine with TouchWiz on stock. But I kinda want a silent volume mode. Is there a way to get that on stock? I only get ringer and vibrate

Roots your existing ROM, no flashing anything. If your phone works great now, it'll work great after. This is the method I used to root so I can personally vouch for it.

My opinion and my opinion only:
I rooted my phone the second zedo posted his first kernel. Overall it was running good. At first I thought the issues people were having with loss of signal and data lock were due to the root but have since seen unrooted phones have the same issue. I however never got the LOS or data lockup.
Yesterday I returned my phone for a new one and have not rooted it. I still havent had LOS or data lockup but what I do notice is SIGNIFICANT battery improvement over being rooted.
Rooted battery at best was draining 6% an hour. More often was average of 1o% hour. Battery after battery calibration lasted 14 hours
Unrooted battery as of this minute is draining 2% an hour. This battery should be on par to last over 2 days but realistically will be over a day Im sure.
So my personally opinion is dont root till a) theres a way out and b) it doesnt require a kernel push. Something just doesnt seem right having to replace a kernel to achieve root. Never had to do that before and dont plan on doing it again.
Also, get a usb jig before rooting to avoid the triangle splash screen and counter.

Ok I am using Zedomax's V2, which is the overclockable Kernel with root and CWM. After flashing I did the Data reset which involves the ##...# code listed in the forums. My phone is rooted, overclocked, and running flawless. Most of the issues, other than the data loss(fixed with the data reset), are due to people doing things they shouldnt do... Like doing a factory reset in CWM without having a rom to flash afterward. This is what is causing the bootloops. If you follow the directions and dont get too ambitious you will be fine. That being said... if you are concerned then just wait until we get the stock tar so that if you do mess up while flashing anything you can flash right back to stock. Personally I believe most of the issues are user error.

I would wait until there is a way to go back to stock. Then u could try. In reality though we should be flashing a custom recovery and not a Complete kernel. Then for root u flash the su.zip. then you can flash a custom rom/kernel or stay stock with root.

hey barnacles,
if you grab the 'official' rom from miui.com or even the int'l sgs2 miui port from xda, all you need to do is swap the zimage with one of the epic 4g touch's (like LoStKernel) and it will boot up and function (maybe what the OP of this thread did, didn't download to see). Data and wifi were no go. If I remember, the cameras were working though unlike what this OP says. I've been working on this here and there but I definitely dont have as much free time as I'd like as I'm getting ready to move to the other side of the earth.
I'll be more than happy to answer questions and/or help development going as soon as I can put some time aside to work on this.

I'm not a fan of the MIUI ROM(its to iPhone-ish IMHO) but I still wanted to say thank you for this post. Although I know it wasn't its purpose, it did point me to the SkyRocket's Development, and Themes & Apps Section, and man do they have some goodies over there, which I never would've found had it not been for this post, so thanks again!
so you essentially made small tweaks and got aosp based rom from sgs2 int to boot? if so, nice. I wonder if this works with CM7 as well.
Omggggg we need to get this rolling. I thought someone was already working on a port for MIUI? What is this for? Excited nonetheless lol.

Yeah pretty new myself and after sitting around on a stock rooted EK02 build with CWM5 I just switched. Calkulin's rom is pretty good. I turned haptic feedback on because I like it other than that pretty good.
But it also answered one of my biggest wishes, the battery icon showing percentage.
I used the auto rooter for the E4GT and then used the same option for CWM. Pretty easy to use the recovery from that point to run the Format all zip and then the zip for calkulins rom. Just run them as updates.

Just follow the instructions. Need the USB drivers installed best thing is to install Samsung Kies. Once thats done just make sure you have it in debug mode (left touch button > Settings > Applications > Development).
I missed it while missing some sleep but option C has the CWM and stock roms in it after you root.

Have any VM US users installed the official update from Kies for their "Samsung Galaxy II" (Epic 4G Touch) yet? Have you had any problems? Has anything improved? The two problems that I read about so far are:
- Google Now closing quickly. Seems there is a fix by clearing cache or reset.
- BT not stable for some audio devices.
How is your battery life, has it improved, I read one report on the Sprint device that it did.
Please let me know of your experience with the official VM Jelly Bean, id GB28 US update from Kies, good or bad, thanks.

Hi wizard, this thread is about the official Samsung update via Kies. I am not sure about VM-specific ROMs as I am not rooted.
Currently on stock ICS, Virgin has visual voice mail but it only seems to work sometimes for me. I am not sure how it will work on JB or if it will even exist on the official JB. I am pretty sure some vendor-specific features like Sprint ID and Virgin Mobile ID are lost in the official JB release.

I guess I miss understood the thread. The title implied there was a E4gT with a Virgin Mobile GB28 based rom in existence.
I am looking for a phone.apk, that used the non-visual voice mail system, which is comparable with the E4GT. I was hopping I might be able to get it from this rom.

Um, using odin takes a minute or 2 at most plus the wait time for the install which is less than 10 minutes. What's really a pain is lazy people sitting around with their hand out like that dude on the interstate on ramp.

Are you unfamiliar with the One Clicks?
The name is accurate...One click.
If it takes you more than 5 minutes to read how to click a button once, you may want to stay on the stock rom.
