[Q] Android 2.3.3 with S-OFF - How to root? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I have a Desire Z with stock Gingerbread, but for some reasons, it is S-OFF without root. Here is my HBOOT data:
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0013
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.12_M
eMMC-boot

Now, if I want to root my phone, what shoud I do?

follow this guide
do the 'Gaining Temp Root' and 'Temp-Rooting to Backup' sections, seeing as you are S-OFF changes will stick.

Thank you But I am confused about my situation, now am I have a real s-off or something different? And when I do the things you said in the downgrading guide, will my phone be fully rooted? Can you inform me a little bit please?

I found this to be the easiest to follow and most comprehensive guide, comes with pictures (and most is derived from bits and pieces from this forum, it's just all in one place):
http://igyaan.in/2011/01/how-to-root-htc-desire-hd-included-downgrade-from-1-72-405-3-to-1-32/
You should also follow this after that first guide is completed, as some modifications require Eng S-Off as well (different to Radio S-Off, which is included in the above guide):

Cheers,

Just do a google search for "desire hd root visionary" for easy guide to root.

[Q] How to Identify which HBoot i have (DZ or G2)??

hi guys,
sorry if this has been discussed but am trying to figure out which engineering HBOOT i have installed on my bell DZ (is it the desire z or g2 eng hboot)... I have used the gfree a while back and for the life of me i cant remember where i found the guide that i followed or which eng HBOOT the guide told me to install... the one I have on my phone now has the following info:
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.200 (PC1012000)
MICROP-0425
eMMC-boot
Sep 8, 2010
i could just flash the desire z HBOOT on top ... but i'd rather just find out what i have and keep it if it's the desire z hboot... thank you
posted too soon... figured it out... HBOOT-0.84.200 is the desire z eng hboot

Bell Desire Z 2.3.3 Flash Rom

Hey, I have a Bell Desire Z that I purchased used and now realized has been modified in some way before. It was at some Froyo version, but then I applied the OTA gingerbread update because I did not know at the time that it was modified. It is carrier unlocked for sure. In the boot loader it has the following settings:
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0013
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.12_M
eMMC-boot
Apr 11 2011, 23;36;27
So I assume it has S-Off, but it does not have root. I tried to run gingerbreak, but it just stayed at the rooting process screen for 15 minutes so I closed it. If I want to flash a CM7 rom, what will I need to do? Thanks!

Boot into clockwork recovery and do a wipe. Then flash zip from there

Hi, i am in the same situation as you do, I ve loocked up on the internet with no luck, and I finally got to this post. I wonder wether it worked for you, because I try to install recovey from rom manager, but it says, I do not have enough permissions. Did you succeed installing the recovery?
I would be gratefull if you can give me some light on this matter, cause I am lost.
Many thanks,

[Q] Need help with unrooting Desire HD

Sorry to probably ask something that has been asked a hundred times.
I have a Desire HD that was originally locked to Three Mobile. (UK)
I rooted it ages ago and now need to unroot it as I wish to sell it. (the place I am selling it wont take it due to custom firmware, they format the phone and see Hboot.)
I have a goldcard but no idea what to do now.
RUUs don't seem to work.
Baseband is 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Finally got back into hboot.

To unroot your device? Just flash a RUU or use the Superuser menu to unroot permantly. That will do it for good.
