Battery Taking 18hrs to charge - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So it's day 2 with my new SGS2.
Picked it up from the store fully charged.
Since it dying once or twice due to battery drain...I noticed it takes a crazy long time to recharge.
My past phones only took maybe 3hrs Max to get a full charge...this one is much much longer. Any ideas?
I'm rooted....stock rom.

Wall charger and 2 1800mah batteries on ebay

I just received this in the mail yesterday, and I think that it's worth $30. The battery definitely lasts longer. I'm only on my first day of use, but have had the phone on with normal use and bluetooth on all day (9+ hours so far) and I'm at 60%. Had I remembered to turn off bluetooth this morning, it would have been closer to 70% left since the bt accounted for 21% of total battery usage.
Also worth noting... The wall charger seems to properly charge the battery. I drained my original 1500mah EVO battery down to 7% and then placed it in the charger. It charged for approximately 6 hours. Normally, when charging it from empty in the phone, it charged much faster. I'm not a battery expert, and I also could be mistaken, but I get the impression (from reading threads and using the phone and previously owning an iphone) that the HTC software is not properly charging the battery and that is contributing to the miserable battery life right out of the box. Obviously changing setting in the phone software help quite a bit, but I feel like this charger and battery setup help significantly. I'm going to throw the fully charged original battery in tomorrow, and see what kind of performance I get out of it. I'm betting it will be much improved.
Apparently I can't post links on my thread because I am a new user. Just search ebay for chichitec and check out there store. I'm not affiliated with these people in any way. I just happen to be pleased with their product and figured I should share this for any other users that are frustrated with battery life on their EVO.
I just got it (though from another seller).
Figured it was worth the $20 to see if a different battery can help my situation.
I'm at 24 hours up time 3 hours of awake time and still have 26% left. Plus I've got two fully charged spares. Battery problem solved.
Did you actually get red batteries?
They're not exactly the same with the HTC logo, but they are red.
What are the eBay item numbers you guys used?
This is from the same seller for one battery and the charger. He basically charges $10 for each item.

And I am convinced that the poor EVO battery life (stock) has to do with using the phone to charge the battery. I charged the original HTC battery with the included charger and I am at exactly 40% battery remaining with 24:37 up time and 3:05 awake time.
So much better than before.
That's why people are using the method from the forum where they charge their battery 10 times to "condition" it. That definitely helped me, but using this external charger is even better.

Are all the people who brag about 24-31 hours battery time sitting with like 3 hours of actual up time for that period? if so no wonder i dont last any where near that i am usually done at 12 hours with about 6 hours up time.
I consider 3 hours over 24 hours to be very light usage just wondering if that is the reason why no matter what i do i ant get any where close to some of these peoples times.
I wasn't trying to brag. I was just happy to finally get what I consider to be a great improvement over my original battery life. I wish I had more time to use my phone that many hours in the day. Seeing that I don't, this setup works good for me. I know this isn't amazing battery life given my light usage, but so much better than stock out of the box. I haven't rooted yet, and I'm not very conservative with settings that drain the battery.
And to answer your question, yes, that's why your times are shorter, but it seems like you should be getting more. If I have a day where I get more up time, I'll post the numbers.

What is the battery life like on the first charge?

I am getting the phone for christmas and was just wondering if I have my parents charge it the night before, will it last me all day? What is battery life like on the first charge?
You'll likely burn through it pretty fast on a first charge. Best I know, it's not optimal until about 3-4 cycles.
Mine was pretty horrendous at first and then again for the following couple of cycles after that. Now on 4.0.2 and a number of cycles in and I think the battery life is stellar when you consider the screen size. Pretty similar to my GSII so cannot complain.
My advice. .. take the charger.
Regards.
I got about an hour of continuous tinkering after a 10 minute charge. Had to plug it in after that.
The first charge will be the longest lasting charge you will ever have on this battery - depending on your usage.
LiIons degrade a wee tiny little bit with every subsequent charge.
Thanks, I can't wait to get it.

While this is true, I dont think its calibrated the first time.
I got my nexus yesterday and charged it up from 50 to full and it was literally at 0% 10 hours later, today is a different story, I've been able to get about 12 hours of use out of it and have about 35% battery left

Calibration only affects the battery icon, if they use poor logic to calculate the charge. The system can read battery voltage precise to 0.001 volts and it's actually quite easy to gauge a LiIon cell: 4.200 V = full, 3.600 V = empty (without load on the battery)
My first charge only lasted about 5 hours, and that was because I was playing with the thing the whole damn time. ;-)
My first charge
This is what I got on my first full charge. Was on Wifi for most of the time. Bluetooth was on often in the beginning to transfer files.
Used GPS for like. Facebook sync was off. Gmail, Google+ on. No Reader, Google Photos, Docs sync.
I bought the extended battery and it both were about 40% charged. You'll want to burn it down completely till it powers off, then give it a full cycle.
You'll kill it just by setting it up, playing some games, playing with the OS, reading XDA Rooting guides, taking pictures etc.
Just kill it, then put it on the charger while you get a shower and dressed.
...then you'll probably kill it again by the end of the day cause you can't stop plating with it.

charging times

So, I'm wondering if my battery is messed up. It seems to charge from near dead to full in roughly 90 minutes (depending on whether I'm using it or not). Is this typical?
I ask because I feel as though people talk about their phones lasting much longer than mine does, and it makes me think I may have a defective battery.
Do other people experience this short charge time?
I had an Incredible before this, with a smaller capacity battery, and with the quick charge implementation it would still take slightly longer to charge to 100%.
Running Winner00 CM9 kang, with Franko kernel 17.2
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
All greatly appreciated.
Thanks
How is your battery lasting during normal operation?
It doesnt matter how long it takes to charge if it behaves normal in everyday use.
Mines does the same thing it'll be nearly dead(4%) and will be charged to 100% in about 2 hours. The weird thing is that my battery life is still pretty good(averaging 12-14 hours of usage with 4-6 hours of on screen time and no wifi), just kinda strange when I first received the phone it took longer to charge.

It's completely normal to have the phone charge that fast. It is the way Li-Ion batteries work. They have a super charge state where the battery charges itself in minutes from 0% to approx. 85% and then starts to trickle charge the rest of the way. This is to ensure that the battery doesn't die from all the rapid charging.
I probably get about 2 hours of screen on with wifi, and usually im on a very good wifi connection.
it often seems im down 40-60% within 2-3 hours of light use: texts, checking the time, nothing major.
Maybe I'm expecting to much from this.
My Dinc used last a lot longer it seemed.
And yes,i generally keep 4g off

[Q] Battery charging regimen?

Is there a preferred battery charging regimen for the One X battery?
That is, is it better to, say, always let it drop to 15% and then recharge to 100%, or can/should I charge whenever possible, or in smaller increments?
Also, are there disadvantages to using the phone while charging (as I tend to do quite a lot )?
Thanks!
i normally let mine down to about 10% then just charge it too 100%

Right, but do you know if this is actually the way to go with the Li-Po battery or are you, like me, just winging it?
When i first got my phone i let it run down till it asked for the charger, then left it on charge over night.
I did this for the first 3 or 4 times as i found this yields the longest battery life, since then i charge every 2 days regardless what percentage is left always over night though.
Going to leave it tonight & see if it will go till tomorrow night, its been off charge since 7am on Friday morning so far & is still on 46% a total of 39 hours so far.

You get two days on a charge? Are you a wizard? Although, having just got the phone (and possessing the patience of a 5 year old), I've done a lot of start-stop charging, which I suspect isn't optimal.
I'll try to refrain from trickle charging for a while, see how much difference it makes. Thanks.
Another battery charging thread? Just plug in the damn phone! It will take care of the rest.

I have noticed that the battery does drain in strange amounts.
I have my wifi & gps on constantly, my phone went for 2 days 5 hours & i received a text at which point the phone was at 34% battery.
The phone was put back in stand by & the phone went totally flat in the next 4 hours, this i find strange as over night in stand by it only uses 1 - 2%.
There is obviously a bug in the way the phone reports its battery state, by my reasoning this must be some 10 - 15% lower than what it is reporting.
It does seem to have some difficulties reading the battery level correctly. I've noted a couple of times that it shows a significantly higher charge level (+5-7%) after a reboot. Which is hardly likely to recharge the battery. (Unless I got me one of those perpetuum mobile, in which case, yay!)

How is battery life on your P8000?

Before buying this phone the huge battery was one of the reasons why I chose this phone. But I'm not impressed at all by the results I'm getting, I am struggling to get a full day from 100% and charge time is about 3-4 hours for 0-100%.
The most screen on time I ever saw without recharging was 7 hours, now it is difficult to get 4-5 even though it takes me about 4 hours to charge it to 100%. My previous phone, xperia sp had a 2400mAh battery and gave similar results on similar usage and charge time was 2x quicker.
I've tried quite a few ROMs to see which gives best battery life(currently on Nexus), they all give similar for me. One friend says after one day of heavy usage on stock,he'd have about 60% left so it can easily last him 2-3 days.
I'd like to know the battery results of other P8000, I've been getting results like this since I got the phone in late August 2015
Maybe try this http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix
Mine lasts 24hrs with 8-9 hrs SOT, 48hrs with 6hrs SOT+ but I do not really game on my phone, mainly youtube, Chrome calls and text. My phone used to take ages to charge also but I brought a quick charge usb cable and fully charges in about 3 hours now.
You can install Better Battery Stats from the play store to see if its an app you use thats killing your battery.

Four hours charge time is about right, forget Elephones quick charge ability just phooey.Any way a slow charge is better for the battery.
Partner after a days use phone Facebook and general browsing has over 70% left so no problems with her usage.
Greenify made a big difference to my battery life. But you need to root the phone to use it properly.
