Hi,
I switched my phone off & when I turned it on a widget appeared on my home screen which was not there before as seen in the pictures.
When I open it links to a website on the browser showing this on the picture.
The last app I installed was beautiful widgets and I am running stock 2.3.4 unrooted & bootloader locked if that helps.
My question is then could this be a virus to steal information?
Or am I just paranoid

not really sure. it looks more like some kind of fake service which only shows ads. some important questions
1. did some app recently asked for root permissions?
2. what permissions has asked for the widget you installed(when installing from market)

Just realised I give the phone permission to install non market apps as I use amazon apps store.
Maybe it is from there..
Thanks for the reply!

Okay, so I searched as much as I could on the xda app for this answer, or the old market and couldn't find anything. Here's my problem, I am using the new market and none of my apps seem to be updating or even showing they need updated, when I go search an app I have installed and open it in market it says it needs an update. I'm not really diggin this new market, how would one go about getting the old market back? I searched in themes & app for the old one and could only find impalied darkness, trid to get it to install and wouldn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you deleted your old one you should be able to just uninstall the new one and get back the older ones.

Try and remember what apps you installed when it started happening. ..or if youre rooted get a ad remover

Simple, long press the notification, then select APP INFO and it will open the app that opened it and uninstall the app.

If I were you, I'd download a real Anti-virus app. If a font can load that, who knows what else it loaded.
I would follow pbelcomp idea to get rid of this problem.
There are security suites that are okay, like Lookout, avast, Kaspersky, etc... The suite I use is Lookout with Premium account.
I try to stay with more trusted developers for free and paid apps. I also find that developers with paid apps are less likely to do this then free only app developers. Paying for something has its advantages.
Reviews or lack of also speak volumes about the app in question. Even with ROMs I would check out the developer's reputation and reviews on their work before even thinking of trying their application or ROM. That is where the community helps out in a huge way.

I saw a couple of these threads around xda. Just wanted to share and see what you guys come up with.
Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1571645
All you do is just post and complete this sentence "You know you're rooted when.."
Examples:
masaidjet: You know you're rooted when you tell a neighborhood hoe to " wipe her cache "
wscott9903: You know you're rooted when 1/2 of your apps require superuser permission.
feralicious: You know you're rooted when your spouse tells you they're leaving you and taking the kids and you think "perfect timing, (insert dev name here) just released a new ICS ROM".
jayochs: you know you're rooted when your phones buggy as hell lol
putney1477: You know you're rooted when, you husband, wife, significant other gets a new phone and says, don't you dare come near this phone, it works fine!
jackpot08: You know your rooted when when spend more time flashing roms than using your phone"

Since I freeze apps like Facebook when I'm not running it because it stays open in the background, this is app was what I was looking for....it saves a few steps.
It disables apps you choose completely when you're not using it.
I think there's a fee other apps that do the same thing...

Yea I tried the TakTik ROM today. Here is what went wrong for me:
Installed fine - I went to add Google account but couldn't sign in because it required a browser Sign in (Google verification code)
Couldn't do a browser sign in because the WEB PAGE WAS BLACK. The same thing happens when I opened the browser - all pages just show black screen.
Tried to install various browsers by download the file via direct link to the download but wouldn't instal properly.
Also tried to instal titanium backup to restore account setting but, like you, said I didn't have root. I think this is to do with the fact that the Google super user thing isn't installed which allows root access.
And i cant install that because I can't add my Google account.
Tl;dr Can't add Google account because browser just shows black screen.
Hope that helps
Ok after installed from play store worked ok. Anyway kitkat needs improving. Status bar settings didn't show.browser broken. Thanks 4 help.
