Hi,
Over the last year I have been rooting and flashing roms on both the HTC DZ and the Aria and have not had any real troubles. However...
Recently picked up a used Desire A8181 that was flashed and had CM7 with 2.3.7 G installed with CWM backups but "desired" to flash a newer ROM with either 2.1+3 Sense or Sense 3.5.
So over the course of the last week, been looking at alpharev, hboots and all of the stuff one might need to flash such a ROM. Well today ran into a problem. I cannot tell you exactly what I did but where I am is not a good place.
So, need some help...
1. I can boot into recovery and currently have cwm-4.0.1.4 loaded
2. Using Fastboot I can flash an .img file either a new bravo_alphaspl.img or a recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img file using AndroidFlasher.exe or using fastboot.exe
3. I cannot get
a. revolutionary.exe to see my phone, it states WAITING FOR DEVICE
b. abd shell or device or any adb command to work
4. I cannot get a stock OTA RUU file to flash and when I do, I get the errors shown in the attached png files.
5. I cannot access my SDCARD and get this error can't mount /SDCARD and along with this the error /dev/block/mmcblk0
I have
- stock hboot
- PVT3 S-OFF
- hboot 6.93.1002
So looking for some tips or trick to get my ROM reloaded which I suspect is related to corrupt storage on the phone?
Anyway, thoughts welcomed.
Thanks,
malloy0
UPDATE...I also reviewed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632 and many others, NONE addresses the issue of not being able to access the SDCARD. Also, I have 6 different SDCARDs and they all work fine in my DZ. I have also prepd and formated using Gparted and booted via Linux.

SD card brick , u can look at this thread
these commands through adb should solve it (u said adb is not finding ur device, make sure u have the drivers installed). i had this sd card issue at least 3-4 times and these 2 lines always saved me
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0

Thanks!! Will try in a few days. Busy for work traveling. Not much time to test.
Note on the adb drivers? I assume that given I connect my DZ and my WinPC and it works to access the DZ phone that these drivers mean they are installed? Using XP SP3. Also, I accessed my A8181 yesterday no trouble, so...assume the adb drivers are installed. I do note when the Desire is plugged in, sometimes get the request for the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM (or something like this?) driver, but no luck finding this. So hit cancel and move on. Did not have this issue yesterday.
Ok...on the commands, will try more later.
RE: fastboot commands?
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
do I need to have these enableqxdm and rebootRUU files where I have the fastboot.exe file?
Spent way to much time searching and trying to fix myself, time to get some help.
Thanks again.
These are not files, they are just 2 commands to fix the usb brick. So you only need fastboot.exe.
To get the drivers you have to download the Android SDK, but I think that these drivers will work as well.

It worked like a charm.

I tried other sd. Same condition.
I just rooted my Desire with unrevoked.
I'm able to turn S-off, but as I've no nand-backup of no-a2sd roms I can't restore. Restoring nand-backups of a2sd-roms via fastboot is doing well, but system can't boot in OS lacking sd-ext.
I used
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
It said Ok. But, I didn't see any benefit.

pm me the cid of your phone (not sdcard) and i will make a specific fix for your cid
phew just tried that second fastboot command and it cleared all my problems up in under a second!

It's one of two possibilities:
1) You've usb bricked your device. To solve try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639&highlight=usb+brick
2) Mis-formatted SD. SD has to have one FAT partition (first) and a second ext3/4 partition. Both have to be primary.
Do you mind to explain how to format it correctly then?

Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 at step five. It is on step by step how to format and partition your card. It has a video showing you exactly.
try this put your htc desire in fastboot mode and instal the ruu and voala the phone is back
sometime ruu flash can't fix usb brick if your misc.img is corrupt
final request for help after this if it doesnt work i will go to htc help center
this will be a video of my problem now, and i still cant get things to work....search um "My android problem" and you will see a guy in grey shirt thats me holding my sadly bricked desire.
Did you tried flashing stock RUU?
If your are still usb bricked after flashing RUU/pb99.img then try the steps below i fix mine that way.
after i unlocked my sd card via fastboot command"fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" sd card recognized by phone and i can browse it via file explorer.
note-you can access your sdcard only via file explorer nothing else so after execute the command download a file explorer from android market.
then i copied the visionary+(it gave me temporary root access which is needed to work this whole thing out).
root explorer, terminal emulator apk and those usb bricked update file(image_flash,mtd0.img) to sdcard from pc via card reader and installed them.
before copy those update file on sd card i edited the mtd0.img to put correct cid n rom info via hex editor.
after that i copied those update file in phone memory
/data/data/ and set permission for r/w and execute via root explorer.
after that i simply typed this command in terminal emulator
"su
/data/data/flash_image misc /data/data/mtd0.img"
Rebooted my phone and voila usb brick is gone htc sync, usb tethering,sd card mount, charge everything is working and now i am rooted and s-off again
Note-you don't need the rageagainstthecage file which only need if you try to get root access via terminal emulator which is lengthy n complicated but with visionary+ you can get root access with 1 click and it's much easier than typing command in T.E.
you are S-OFF

fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
done.

It's not that simple if your misc.img is corrupted that fast boot command only enable your sd-card if it's blocked it's not gonna fix your corrupted misc.img so i had to flash the pb99.img to get back to stock rom get through the process i described earlier.
well in order to carry out these tasks ill need my phone to be detected by the computer right? I think this is why i cant get into my phone cuz when every i try adb shell it says devices not detected.
That's why you need to do exactly what i did as you are now stuck on stock rom with usb brick.

Hello, I was happily using a previous miui build and updated using ROM Manager and it was going fine until the phone stopped being able to recognise the SD card whatsoever, so I tried looking that up, and was finding things about reformatting memory cards, trying different ones etc. I tried all these things to no avail, I am now trying to RUU it back to a stock Sense ROM in the hope that will fix the SD card problem but when I try to connect it via USB to the PC it isn't recognised at all. I've tried installing HTC Sync etc. I've no idea what to do anymore?
ANY ideas much appreciated!

You have a classic USB brick. Don't panic, it's pretty frequent. Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639&highlight=usb+brick
It says on that article ' SD card functionality has to work' at the minute the Desire won't recognise the SD card whatsoever!
When they are giving these instructions, are they assuming that your phone is connected to a computer and in the adb thing?
Thanks so much!

Retarded post: Download a terminal program and: For this, do 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' in fastboot mode. Strike that.
Can you boot in Fastboot ? Back arrow + power.
Is your phone visible to the computer in fastboot ?
Don't jump into restoring an RUU as you will really be in trouble then!
Trust me, I've bricked mine and gone down this road to put it right and it can be done.
Get hold of Android-SDK (Google it), get that installed and prepare to learn. In my case I managed to restore SD card functionality and thought I had won, then discovered that I still had a USB brick. Nevertheless, many hours reading and several vodkas later I had it fully restored.
If you still have clockwork recovery on the phone (I'm assuming you're using that?) then it's a pretty easy fix, don't panic! And above all, don't attempt to go back to stock as then you'll still have a knackered phone but with no root to recover it (although I doubt you can if your phone can't read it, unless you learn the fastboot stuff and flash the RUU before actually fixing the problem).
The thread linked gives some idea, there's also a lengthier one, search 'USB brick'.
And good point by paul.c, that would be far simpler but I've never tried it myself - although esentially that is indeed the command required to get the SD card working again.
Just beware that getting the SD card working may not be the end of your woes, you may then find (as I did) that USB functionality is broken and bluetooth doesn't work, classic 'USB brick' symptoms. Again, pretty easily fixed.

My SDK is working fine for commands such as 'ADB Devices' now but when I go into Fastboot and give the command 'fastboot' it states that it's not recognized! Do you have to have S-Off for this to work?
Well... you start your phone.. by pressing.. Vol down and power.. than connect your phone with usb cable to pc ... open command prompt.. got to your sdk folder "platform-tools' and than enter ADB or Fastboot command..
But when you connect your phone to PC.. check if ADB drivers are installed.. go to device manager and check if your phone is recognised as ADB interface under Android Phone

In the device manager, it's under 'Android USB Devices' as 'My HTC' is that ok?
OK, I have the SDK working fine, but when I go to this ( http://ks25738.kimsufi.com/misc/index.php ) website to get the .img file I need I can't figure out my kernel/ROM number - in the settings it says:

Kernel Version 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01494-g8dc02ff

Build Number
MIUI.1.6.17
The wesbite states the number should be 10 characters long, anyone know which one the ROM number is?
Thanks
You are once again trying to flash an RUU. Do not do this without first fixing your SD card problems.
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
and also
fastboot oem eraseconfig
Need more details on where you are at. If you don't fix the issues you have then flashing an RUU could leave you in a much worse situation than you are now, and where you are now is easily fixed!
Parva4 is right.. you should 1st try enabling your sd card....
what you need to do is...
first download adb drivers for your device...
power on your phone into fastboot.. by pressing volume down and power.. connect usb cable to pc.. and in device manager.. update driver to adb driver.. while in hboot.. and than run that fastboot command which Parva4 mentioned.
I sorted it out, thanks to all who helped!
I did the fastboot enableqxd 0 command to unlock the SD card then once that was able to be used I flashed back to a nand backup I had made minutes before I did the flash that went wrong and now it's working fine!
Hi,
Iam trying to un USB Brick my sisters phone. I s-off ed with Revolutionary, installed clockwork recovery, and unzipped Superuser. But now the SD card (I've tried 3) aren't recognised at all.
All the instructions for USB UNbricking start with the command ' 'fastboot oem enableqdm 0' from the cmd (I have the android-sdk-windows/tools folder in the C directory;and just in case downloaded Android SDK - but that doesn't seem to do anything, just hang in cmd window when I launch it).
The thing is when I ever I type 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' I get "FAILED status malformed (1 bytes))". I also tried another fastboot command 'fastboot reboot-bootloader' but again got "FAILED.. status malformed (1 bytes))"
I just can't find a solution to this anywhere - if there is one and you know that'd be great, or a link would be excellent.
I'm going crazy here - what can I do to get the fastboot command to work - and then recoginse an sd card. Any ideas? And, my sister is supposed to gettinga train this evening! Doh, why did I try and root her phone...
Help please!

Ah, getting there...
So, got the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 command to work.
Said OKAY.
Tried the fastboot oem eraseconfig
Said OKAY.
Went into Recovery, tried to flash update.zip; no sd card! Ah damn. (file shows up when exploring sd card on laptop)
So,, thought I try the CID version and I get this info:
INFODevice CID is Super CID
INFOCID is Super CID
INFOBackup CID is ORANG001
INFOSetting->cid::ORANG001
So, now I am confused, what the hell is my CID now?
And can I use the CID Gernerator as in that post.
If it helps, I could see the SD Card fine until I partitioned it (with Easeus - then wiped - then tied again with Mini Tool - both times the parition worked, everthing worked fine when exploring with laptop, just the Desire seemed to throw it and alas, no more sd card recognised - have tried a couple of others too.) Blimey, I've rooted, flashed, etc so many times without a glitch, just didn't think this would happen. Sod;s law it happens to my sister's phone when Itrying to help (she has no tech knowledge!)
SO, again, any help would be great.
Cheers
Just remembered you can try something else..
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
(this has to enable SD.. if it doesn't then I dunno.. I mean 60% of the time it works every time)
Then flash RMD Recovery (link on my guide), and use the built in USB brick function.
If you're S-OFF flash the recovery.img via fastboot
If you're S-ON fakeflash the recovery.zip via recovery
Also in these situations, try to actually give us the errors recovery shows etc.
Alas, tried both of those commands and nothing happened (said OKAY both times, but when booted into Recovery it still did not recognise SD card, and when booted normally still no joy...)
What next, well I'll get a cheap 1Gb SD card straight out of the box and see if recognises it -not holding out much luck though. After that, try flashing the RMD Recovery via fastboot? and trying the USB Brick option (what do reckon?)
Oh well, we'll see. Would it help if I could flash a new ROM? Can this be done without an SD Card being recoginised? If so, which ROM, and how would I do it (from fastboot?) - had run Insert Coin 1.1.14 on another Desire (still running fine) - flash that even though Sd won' be paritioned, would ot work? Out there at the moment...

Hi everybody,
I've been looking on the forum for over a week, and I still haven't been able to resolve my problem.
I tried flashing my HTC Desire with a ROM (on Rom manager), but it didn't work (it always rebooted).
I stupidly deleted all the data on the phone, cache, dalvik cache, etc.... so no Rom is on my phone now.
I now think my phone is USB bricked (it has all the symptoms such as not being properly recognized on the computer).
I can turn on the phone, the buttons work, I can go into clockwork mod BUT I can't mount my SD card in clockwork (so I can't flash anything through that).
I would really appreciate and help you have to offer! Thanks!

are you sure you ran the fastboot commands correctly?
1) Make sure you have fastboot set up, if you don't, unzip the attached file into c:\
2) turn on your phone in FASTBOOT (either hold BACK and POWER, or select FASTBOOT from the Hboot menu)
3) plug the phone in via usb
4) run cmd and type
Code:
