Hi...
There are a few things missing on stock app sms. One is the option for stop auto coverting sms in mms after 5sms's long, as you can read it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100920
google it, and find this is a problem from back versions till now:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2318
Other missing options are:
- Make a phone call from sms (if I get a sms from someone saying me "Call me please", I have to exit sms, go to contacts, search for it, and make the phone call)
- Save contact from unknown number (if someone send me an sms "This is my number", I cannot save directly from sms list... again, must write it down, exit sms, go to contacts, and add a new one)
Its simple things and liked to know if its possible to change and add this little options in stock sms app. I like the stock app sms... its simple, quick and usefull, but missing little things ruin it..
Thanks in advance

hello there, I have some stuff I'd like to change regarding SMS. I've got a P3300 with official WM6.
I'd prefer to change this through some options (tho I didn't find) or registry edit. If possible to do what I need without installing more (battery draining) applications, would be best, but if there is no other choice, I'll take a look at whatever application u suggest.
- when I am underground and I send an SMS, it tells me it can't be send, and the message goes into the temp. folder (dunno english name of this folder) and I have to resend it manually. I'd like it to resend automatically as soon as I have signal again. That's what my previous nokia phones did.
- when I send a SMS successfully, I get a popup and "ding" telling me it was send. I don't want this, I only want to know if there was an error. I send loads of messages, and this popup is rather annoying.
- since I have WM6, when i open messages through the today plugin, it always asks me if outlook, sms or mms... with wm5 it always went into the last one I used. I'd like this functionality back, is it possible?
is there any FAQ of different kind of tweaks that can be done with a P3300 wm6 just through options or registry? if yes, could you please link it, I'd like to take a look at that.
thx for everything

Yes, this question has been answered be4 too. Search and you will find it or else, i will try to find it 4 you this weekend. I thought its possible...
hopefully you can find that info and give me a hand. i tried the forum search function but as i dont know exactly what i am looking for, my search is too generic and i get loads of results (most about tweaked roms) that don't help me at all.
EDIT: found answer to 3) by myself. SOLUTION: open messages, go into menu->tools->options and there you can setup the different types of message accounts you have. at the bottom is an option to enable or disable the account selector. i just turned that off.
For the SMS sent notification:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Inbox/Settings/SMSNoSentMsg and set it to "1".
With the mentioned registry edit, you are not notified if the message fails to send. It just tries it, and puts it in sent items. If it fails it will not be re-send again by WM6.
you can fix the SMS/OUTLOOK/MMS thing in Options in your Messaging program.
ok, thx to that registry edit i get the sms sent popup no more. but i don't get any popup warning if it fails.
i've heard something about a different regedit key, with different numbers like
0 = no warn
1 = all warns
2 = only bla bla bla warn
3 = only ble ble ble warn
etc.
any1 got an idea about this?
also, any way to have the phone re-send failed sms automaticaly when i have signal again?
i am at a point that i would also try some SOFTWARE if needed, tho i prefer if it can be done just by registry.
Not familiar with those options. But why don't you give it a try and report back here.

In WM6, when I had several new text messages I could do the following:
1. Go into Text Messages
2. Read the first new message.
3. On the navigation buttons i could push the "left" button and the "right" button to go back and forth between messages.
The above steps no longer work with the ROM I downloaded from this forum (WM6.1 080408 Final For Excalibur WWE with English - By Kavana). I did download and install the eT9 fix already.
Thanks!

Are you using threaded messaging or the old email style messaging? One of the best things about 6.1 is that you can use threaded messaging. To enable it, go to start - settings - accessibility - SMS Inbox threading and enable it. After that make sure to actually close the messaging app, or if you prefer restart the phone. Not exactly what you were looking for, but it makes texting so much better imo and makes switching between messages the old fashioned way irrelevant.
Yes, I am using threaded messaging. However sometimes I get messages from more than one person -- or I get alerts for work and I need to scroll through them all. It would be nice to be able to navigate to the next message with one button rather than three.
Then turn off threading messages.
Should work the old fashion way.
Hi
I have a Touch Diamond. I was wondering if anyone can help me. Does anyone know of an inbox extender (or feel like writing one) that will enable me to:
Open a new(blank) SMS message, write it, and when I press "send" (or even "to") it will show me a list of , say, the last 10 people I sent SMS messages to? I have another app which I bought to allow me to group message (PowerSMS) which has a feature which calls up (lightning fast) your SMS history on the stats page, so I assume it is at least possbile to call up SMS history quickly without having a performance impact.
My old Nokia used to have this, and it's dead handy. Otherwise I find myself having to scroll through the 20+ Pauls or Andy's in my contacts list to find the particular Paul or Andy that I always text.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks
Stoatie
hmmm ... have I posted this in the wrong forum section??
So I'm the social chair of my fraternity and I constantly send mass texts to people and since getting this phone have not been able to send group chats with go sms or handcent, only stock but with stock I have to input each individually so why do that right?
Here's a temporary workaround (if there's a better way PLEASE tell me):
1) open sms app of choice
2) start a new message to the group of people
- if it's a group of 20+ you'll have to split this into 20 people at a time (ya it sucks but you have to do it)
3) type something into the message field but do not send it
4) press back to save it to drafts
5) switch to stock message app and you should see the draft
6) open the draft and delete the text you previously typed
7) insert your picture, text, or both and click send
8) should send without a hassle
If there's another way or something I'm doing wrong that can take the hassle out of this please tell me other than that this should help for you.
also, I'm running Carbon 1.4 on Franco Kernel
I have just started using the Samsung Stock Messages app for SMS, coming from Textra.
I noticed that when I hit compose and enter a contact name, it shows all the phone numbers for that person. It doesnt even show which are mobile and which are not.
On Textra it labeled the numbers, and it also had an option to only show Mobile numbers.
Is there any way to do this on the Messages app? Its really confusing as I cant always tell which is even the right number to select for a text message to a contact...seems weird.
Thanks.

It does show mobile and other like work etc for me, open the messages app > contacts tab at the bottom > select contact > if contact has more than one number saved a pop-up appears with names of different numbers shown
Thanks for the reply. I feel like I am missing something as this process is so cumbersome for me that it almost doesnt make sense...
1 - in Textra and others, I hit the compose text button and start typing a name. it then immediately will show any associated numbers with labels so you can see which is the mobile, which is the home, etc. in this stock app I just see the contact name with a bunch of numbers. and if I hit one, it doesnt bring up any sort of window with all the labels.
2- following your directions, if I first go to the contacts tab (already an extra step) I see along list of all of my contact names. There is a search button, but if I hit that and type a contact, I again see an unlabeled list of numbers.
3 - if I manually scroll down the entire list until I find my contact, then when I press it I see a pop up with labels.
Any which way this is a LOT of steps to compose a text message - seems like it doesnt make sense. there is no more streamlined way?

Not that I know of, this is why there are 3rd party apps with a lot more time and attention gone into adding features over stock, personally I just leave conversations in my messages app so I can open and text direct from there, only the first ever message you send them you have to perform those steps
Why not just stick with Textra?
Great question!
Sadly, something is screwed up with AT&T, my Galaxy S9 and text messaging.
Several weeks ago, I started having an issue where I am sporadically not getting random texts. They just never appear - and then people are wondering why I didnt reply. To troubleshoot this, I went to the AT&T portal and checked the log of text messages...the missing messages are never even hitting my AT&T number, so it seems this is not an app issue.
AT&T has so far been useless in diagnosing this. But googling around, I have noticed that a number of people have had this issue and it seems AT&T's "Advanced Messaging" feature is a possible culprit. There have been reports that deactivating this has solved the issue for some users.
Unfortunately the only way to deactivate this that I have uncovered is through the stock app. And if I deactivate this in the stock app and then switch to another app like Textra, it is getting turned on again automatically. I have not discovered any way to keep this deactivated while using a 3rd party SMS app.
Crazy but tragically seems to be the case...very frustrating.

There is an app called "Package Disabler Pro" which allows without root, the disabling of system packages, if you know what the advanced messaging package is called, you might be able to permanently disable it without having to have the stock SMS app as default, perhaps disabling the Samsung stock SMS app would also do it (Just read here that Disabling the messages app on the S10+ allows Textra to work)
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/blcs1b/textra_no_sent_messages_only_received_messages/
Contacting the Textra dev would be a good idea too, ask them to add the feature you need into textra
I am also seeing another method that may disable it, by disabling VoLTE
https://textra.uservoice.com/knowle...80-t-mobile-at-t-verizon-missing-messages-rcs
Looks like that is for T-Mobile but worth a shot, if AM uses VoLTE it should kill it
