[Q]Case for Samsung Epic Touch & T-Mobile SGS2 compatible? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I'm having a horrible time finding a case that I want...but I saw one that says its for the Epic Touch 4G - looks very similar to ours...will the cases fit??

no T-Mobiles SGSII is more rounded the the Epic 4G Touch i don't think cases would be interchangeable

The only Galaxy S II that is very similar in design would be the T989D (Telus) variant.

The tmobile sgs2 is actually alil thinner too iirc

The d30 dual impact does not fit on the sprint version ... sprints version is bigger

I have bought a few already, there is literally thousands of choices.

You can use att skyrocket cases

Really? No fitment issues anywhere?

no you cant
i wish people would stop saying this
the speaker on the back of the phone is on the opposite side of the phone ... among other differences

I have a friend who has a skyrocket with a case, so i was able to compare. Couple differences:
1. The speaker is on the other side of the phone (meaning if you use a skyrocket case itll cover the speaker).
2. The Camera is actually slightly bigger on the tmobile version vs the skyrocket, so again, the camera won't fit in the hole in the case.
3. The tmobile version is slightly thinner. This in itself isn't enough to make the cases not fit, although they won't fit snugly. (Granted with number 1 and 2, though, this is a moot point.)

Beware of ebay cases though, I've bought a few & none of them have fit. There seems to have been an issue with the dummy phones the manufacturers used to make them, all the cases I've gotten were either too loose or wouldn't stay snapped shut. I've gotten refunds and the sellers have told me that the manufacturers are issuing recalls of the defective cases & are working on fixing their molds, so I'd actually stay away from ebay for a while unless its for brand name stuff like d30, ballistic, body glove, incipio, etc...

Found the perfect aluminum case for GS2, but will it fit?

The description doesn't mention if it will fit the Epic touch 4G. I believe this is made for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 but not certain. I sent the seller a note but yet to receive a reply. Does anyone have any experience with this case?
Is there a physical size difference between the Sprint and International Version of the Galaxy S2?

Battery pull would be a pain...hope you're not getting any LOS or random freeze on the road. Bring a spare tool kit just in case though.
Wow. That case is a work of art. Some of the other designs from that seller look great too.
I sent the seller a message on ebay asking if he was going to make cases for our phone. Here was his reply...

The original S2 is different enough from the E4GT that those ebay cases probably won't fit at all. Your first big hint is that the E4GT has a bigger screen...
Arguably, a perfect case would be designed for the phone, look how you want, and not cost more than 50 bucks, this good sir is far from a perfect solution IMHO.
Waste of money. I dropped my eg4t several times on concrete, asphalt and on a tile floor with not a mark. I do have a tpu case and a screen protector. I feel I don't need this type of protection.
You guys and cases would fit right in an iPhone 4 forum.

I have had identical experiences, with not a scratch. Steinheil crystal screen protector and matte black tpu case. The tpu case only scuffed a little, it took a couple hard falls/slides too. It is cool however, I would like to see custom made wooden ones like this, natural woods (stabilzed probably) in a sort of "two frame" design like this, with spacers on the corners (wood or otherwise). I might build one for giggles to see...

Samsung Galaxy s2 One size fits all??

im searching for after market cases and such.. i know the different carriers have different variants of the Samsung galaxy s 2... so Do the sizes differ?? do i need to specially find the Samsung galaxy s2 t-989 products?
I am pretty sure you do, because all the different S 2's have different corners, width, height and so on. Being off by a little will make the case not fit as it should. Make sure the cases/accessories are for the T989.
You can look at cases for the Skyrocket as well. I myself, is using the Otterbox commuter case for the Skyrocket. Fits like a glove.
Our Sgs2 and Skyrocket are pretty much the same device.

I know this has been dispelled in many many many other threads. The Skyrocket and T-989 similar is size and shape, but they are different enough that cases aren't cross compatible. The biggest issue that anyone will see right away is the position of the speaker on the back. T-989 is to the left, while the Skyrocket is on the right. The shape and size of the camera is also different, and the positioning of the ports is also slightly different.
I’ve had the two phones sitting right next to each other, the differences add up quick.

Is there an Otterbox for this version?

My girlfriend has this phone, obviously being the TMo SGSII.
She saw I'm looking to get a otterbox defender for my Rezound I'm getting, she wants to know if there's one for her phone, I looked on Amazon and they exist for the international version and the AT&T version, would one of these work or is there one specific for this version? Thanks.

It works decent.
Seidio active case is another great option.
Unless you really, really need to have an Otterbox, don't buy the Infuse Otterbox for use with this phone. You'd be supporting a company that explicitly considers our phone to be unworthy of a case. Instead, I would encourage you to support one of the other companies who make cases specifically for our phones.

I really like my Trident. It definitely increases the size of the device, but it feels safe, I've dropped it a few times from decent heights without any noticeable scratches or wear, and just fits in the hand right. Definitely worth the price.

If she'll settle for something like an otterbox, I would suggest getting her one of these- http://www.ebay.com/itm/150738046136?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I just got one & it's just as solid as any otterbox I've ever seen. Much cheaper too, and it comes in a bunch of color combos.
And I agree about not supporting otterbox too. Why give money to a company that thinks our phones aren't important enough to make cases for(even though they're one of T-Mo's best selling phones)? Jerks. I had an OB for my HD2 & to be honest, it wasn't worth the money. The silicone got all stretched out within a month & the screen protector stuck to my screen & caused oil-slick distortions.
So does anyone make a case with a built in screen protector for our phone?
I have read as many threads as I can find...plus I have done a lot of Googling...and I cannot find a case with a built-in screen protector for our phone. I know some people don't like them, but I am a huge fan of the Otterbox Defender and that is what I am looking for on my phone. I don't feel like I can ever get the individual screen protectors on correctly, and even a teeny tiny piece of lint or bubble makes me crazy...and then the sides start coming up. All of my friends and family have 4 or 4s with Defenders (plus my son has an iTouch4 with a Defender), and the touch sensitivity is great. Does any brand make a case with a built in screen protector for the T-Mobile GS2??
Thank you!
p.s. The guy who has modified the Infuse Defender case is brilliant, great innovation! But I am not up for this. I want one made specifically for this phone w/a built-in screen protector.

Telus SGH-T989D

I know this has probably been asked before and I have googled and not found an answer so please in advance dont tear my head off. Thank you.
I have the TELUS SGH-T989D
My question is, will the T-Mobile SGH-T989 Screen Protectors/Cases fit my Telus version?
and secondly what sources/brands do you recommend (esp to hide not so deep scratches from being a drunk dumbass and putting your phone in with your keys).
Thank you in advance.
Yes, they are identical devices in every physical way.
I have always liked Zagg InvisiSHIELD protectors personally, though they can be a real pain to apply. As for a case, I just got a typical $15 TPU case at the mall. Works great, though I know it won't withstand getting run over by a car... I generally just plan to not have that happen.

Only difference i can think of right off is simply the 989D has 'Samsung' logo above screen, t-mobiles has T-mobile (duh.. lmfao)
(Besides software that is..)
I though the telus one doesn't come with cornering gorilla class and the t-mobile one did.
There is a weight difference between the two devices and also size of the device have different measurements but not by much.
"Dimensions t989:129.8 x 68.8 x 9.4 mm t989d:131 x 67.3 x 9.4 mm"

I recently got the Telus T989D and have had 3 T989 screen protectors hang over the edge - maybe they were made wrong from the company because the Telus device seems to be taller, but it's strange they all fit the same way.
2 were from BodyGuardz and the third was just a cheap one from a local market where I got my cheap TPU case. I didn't expect the cheap market one to fit but highly surprised the BodyGuardz ones didn't, and unfortunate because I like those ones and applied it perfectly both times besides the size being too long. I would very highly accept a few mm too short but too long opens up a gap that dirt can get underneath and rub, and an edge to catch and pull up.. neither of which I want to risk
I will try the site linked above and see if they are any better :/
Yes, they will fit. Get either an ArmorSuit or Skinomi.

Samsung + AT&T = Cheap?

So I was at a mall today and walked into a BestBuy mobile store. They have the Note 2 from AT&T and Sprint on display.
I picked up a Sprint Note 2 and immediately noticed it's thicker than my AT&T version and also sturdier. With the permission of the store worker, I open up the back, and confirmed that the back is thicker than that of my AT&T version. And because of that, it feels a lot more solid in my hand.
Don't know if others have checked it out, but if I am right, the AT&T version has a thinner and cheaper back. At least that's the "case" with mine.
Then I walked into another mobile store and bought an OEM Samsung flip case (BestBuy is waiting for their case to come...sigh), the kind that you have to replace the original back with the back on the case. Again, the back on the case is thicker and makes the phone feel a lot more solid.
Also during the few minutes in that BestBuy store, I saw two people walk in and ask for Note 2. Pretty cool.
Just because it's thinner doesn't mean it's cheaper. I'm just fine with a thinner phone. I usually put a tough case on mine because of my line of work, so the thinner the phone itself is, the better. But I have no problem with the feel of the att

A carbon fiber hood is thinner than a steel/aluminum hood. Guess which is cheaper.
Given that these back panels are made of the same materials the comparison isn't exactly the same but I'd take a thinner phone... My ATT note 2 feels plenty solid to me. Why add weight or bulk?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Owning 2 Sprint versions Ive found AT&Ts build quality more solid.
The battery cover is more sure then Sprints.
Sprints is little heaver & thicker due to extra radios....a mess of sorts which is one of the main reasons I went ATT .

It's interesting to read all the opinions. I either have a not so impressive sample or I prefer a more assuring feeling of my phone. I used to think my phone feels ok until I picked up the sprint version. I certainly like a thin phone, but the original creaking back just doesn't give me a secure feeling when I handle it lol.
I'd take thinner any day. Sprint's version could be indestructible and that wouldn't be enough to bring me back to them.
Mine doesn't creak.

Mine doesn't creak at all...it did with the OEM flip case from AT&T...but since I put my original back back on it doesn't and now that I got my Seidio case on as well...it's a non-issue all together for me..
I suggest if it bothers you this much...take it back and get a replacement for it. You can also try some other backs on it and see how they feel to you and if it stops the noise.
FWIW...I handled the Sprint's version before and after I got mine at one of their stores...I couldn't tell any difference in the sample there and my own in feel or operation..so perhaps you do have a defective one..
